Josefina chooses a blue fabric for her skirt…

She did… she helped me look through all the fabrics on my shelf and in a few other places and this is the one she picked for her skirt.

If you click on any of my pictures, they will enlarge.

It looks wonderful with the white blouse…but then any of my fabrics would have…

I think it will be pretty and I have “plans”… that the winner will most surely like!

Here are a few pictures for your Saturday viewing. The skirt isn’t finished yet…held together in the back with a pin, and not hemmed, but it was the best I could do today…

Have a wonderful weekend!
See you Monday!
Blessings, Jeanne

I love the fabric you and Josefina chose, Jeanne. It actually reminds me of my mom; her favorite color was blue, and it seems like she once made an apron out of a similar print….long long ago!! (She’s been gone 14 years now…and didn’t sew for at least another 10 years before that, due to dementia.)

Okay, everyone, I will send Jeanne the recipe for peach pie, along with a picture–tomorrow! I need to get to bed now. Good night! (It’s after 2:30 a.m. where I am–I’m a night owl!)

That is such a pretty nostalgic pattern, Jeanne, and for some reason it is familiar to me, but I don’t know why! It seems something like my grandmother made, and she made a lot of things! It almost reminds me of a feedsack pattern, and she had a lot of feedsacks, since she had chickens. Actually I learned to sew with feedsack fabric!

Hmm, that blue piece of faux leather, is it going to be a vest, or maybe shoes?? It certainly does match the printed fabric!

Do we see a pretty silver and blue necklace in the mix? Maybe even a couple of bangles on her arms? I don’t recall you ever making bracelets, but I could be wrong!

    1. Hi Linda,
The fabric is from Eden’s Civil War schoolmarm dress. Seems it’s pretty versatile.

I came back to see if my first comment actually posted.

  3. For some reason I was thinking the skirt would be a solid, but surprise, it is not. The print actually reminds me of southwestern concho silver jewelry. Maybe Josefina will have a silver bracelet or necklace to match and a solid dark blue wrap belt. I’ve never been a vest fan, but I’m sure the pleather will make a nice one. Not sure how you found time to make the skirt, with your busy day yesterday, but it looks great. Just enough fullness as shown in that lovely 2nd photo. Josefina looks so pretty in the skirt and beautiful blouse.
Nice and cool here this morning, but it’s going to be another hot day today like yesterday. I did manage to go to Joann’s, but since they were doing inventory, it was pretty messy so I didn’t find anything much although their air conditioning was nice. 🙂
More crazy people shooting off illegal fireworks last night. Guess they didn’t get the message that the 4th was last Sunday.

Love the blue print….it is similar to outdoor fabric I bought for the patio this summer. The pale blue leather…or pleather…or whatever it is sure matches. That will be fun to see on Monday!
We woke up to the sirens blowing at 1 am. Lots of branches down and many without power but we were lucky this time. Our son was here early and cleaned up the bazillion branches and then mowed up the sticks and leaves and blew off the patio. What would we do without the helpful kids we have? The green pepper plant broke in half and my tall phlox bent over and the zucchini lost part of the plant.

Oh, so sorry for the weather mishap, but glad it was cleaned up quickly. Must have been some pretty high winds. Sounds like someone will wake up to a strange pepper plant in their yard. Glad you are okay.

The blue is beautiful and cool looking. I agree with everyone about jewelry. Silver would pick up the silver in the blouse and the gray in the skirt. Josefina needs something pretty for her hair — maybe something that would help he arrange it in an attractive way.

I’m wondering if Rebecca has any natural pink stones for added color in the jewelry. Quartz?

I was totally shocked to see what Josephina chose for her skirt! I never saw a bluish print coming but when you used this fabric for Eden it really popped with her dark hair. That was the civil war dress with the peplum predicament, you had tried it on Elizabeth (?) , and I think Felicity and surprisingly Eden with her dark hair and eyes wore it best. So I can’t wait to see how this turns out and how it gets there. Your finished products are always amazing and have that “why didn’t I think of that?” quality. Happy sewing!

  7. What a pretty fabric for Josefina’s new skirt. It certainly looks like Spanish style tiles. I think turquoise and blue are two of her best colors (along with deep red of her meet skirt and the gold of her Christmas dress. The skirt and white camisa kook so cool.
She does need a woven belt. I’m personally not a fan of leather vests or jackets on girls/women ( I don’t mind sweater ones or the waistcoats women wore in the late Victorian/Edwardina era. I’m actually going to guess the pleather is for a pair of moccosins like her meet shoes, except in blue. She needs a rebozo to shield her from the hot Santa Fe sun. Either that or a gaucho style straw hat. My high school and college Spanish teachers exposed us to the clothing/ culture/ music as well. The high school one end with a traditional fiesta with a pinata. Da me dulces, por favor!

    1. I love how you are able to give us such wonderful information, Laura. Very interesting about your high school Spanish class. Loved your final sign off in Spanish!!

What a beautiful skirt this turned out to be. This outfit looks lovely on Josefina. It’s always nice when the recipient helps pick out the fabric. Saves us a lot of stress. I’m thinking vest too maybe. Whatever the addition turns out to be it’s a good match.

Nothing like waking up at 1 a.m. to the sound of warning sirens going off (I’m assuming that’s what Kathie meant). That would be bad enough during the day but at night you can’t see what’s going on outside. We have the sirens here too but when our microburst hit a few years ago there was no warning because it just happens. And when I recently got a warning on my phone (more than once) that a tornado was somewhere around here, there were no sirens and it was so dark outside I would have never seen it coming. We don’t have basements or storm cellars here either so hiding in an inside closet is the best hope.

Yes it’s good to have helpful kids around. Our oldest son was just mowing the lawn. We got a new mower and all of a sudden David and Jason want to do the mowing. But I’m okay with that right now because last Sunday I had Altar Guild and fell up the step to the altar. It’s not even carpeted any longer so I fell on the solid floor. I’ve spent the week dealing with the ramifications of that. Nothing serious that I can see but it gave me quite a jolt and I’ve spent the week using ice packs and heat. I’m down now to mostly sore muscles on the knee/leg I landed on. Fortunately osteoporosis is not a problem for me so it’s just sore muscles and little bruising.

Still working on my study but I should be finished very soon. It’s taken me longer because I’m pulling things out of every nook and cranny. Thankfully I’m running out of nooks and crannies. But it sure looks a whole lot better in here. But I’d really rather be sewing.

I’m so sorry about your fall, Barbara. Falling UP the stairs can be just as bad as falling Down them, sometimes! I remember falling up the stairs on the way to the dining hall when I was in college, about 1967 or so. Barked my shins really well!! It took quite a while to heal, as I recall. Hope your wounds are healing and feeling better by now!

Hi, JEANNE, yesterday I only found time to sneak in a few remarks but not to really address you properly! The white and silver fabric is perfect for a “dress up” camissa. Is this the same spectacular fabric you used on that exquisite “Simply White” regency I won several years back? Sure looks like it. What an outfit that regency is. Hmmm. Someone will need to model that soon!
Because this is a dressy blouse, I would not have any vest that will hide the splendor of the fabric. The skirt print you and Josefina chose is again, perfect. Love the colors and the geometric figures. Someone mentioned a woven belt although I think I have an outfit you made for ‘Fina that has a silver conch. Yes, “Muy Bonita” from several years ago and with really cute shoes. Is the leather for shoes, I hope? The other suggestions for a silver necklace and silver bead bracelets are excellent, and maybe a silver hair adornment or Spanish comb. But. YOU know your plan and we are all excited.

Looking forward to that pie recipe, too. Hope Julia and her dad are having a good day. Boy, Charlotte, I lose earrings right and left. Finally a buddy of mine told me to wear the “oddballs” together, so sometimes I do just that. Kind of fun, but I just hate to lose one. The masks created a lot of earring casualties, I am certain.

I just had a weak moment and ordered a Lila. Still no word on Rebecca.

Someone wanted a Valentina. Another one is listed on eBay with make an offer or starting bid of $500.

ALSO, just got an email from poppets and posies that two new Siblies, coming out this month, limited, awfully cute, and being exclusive to Russia. Boo-hiss!

Have a good weekend, everyone. Kathie…hope the cleanup wasn’t too bad, and yes, great to have some kids around!!

    Sally

    1. Oh, so you are getting Lila. Good for you. 🙂 And I’ve been waiting to hear about the new Siblies, but in Russia? Are there any dealers that sell to us there? Thanks for the update. 🙂

Dear Jeanne, I love the colors together. I am wondering what you are planning next for the outfit as you hinted at something special. Hmmmm. I am sure it will be something lovely.

I took Afternoon Tea today with friends at our favorite tearoom. My tea choice? Paris made by Harney Teas. I always have a “stowaway” doll with me. This time it was Madame Alexander’s 8-inch April in Paris. Yes there was a theme (laugh). I named her Avril, which is literally April in Paris (well in French).

One day we are going to have to have a Zoom tea with the Sofa Sisters!

    Happy weekend.

    1. Sally from Colorado

Oooh, a SS Zoom? I like it, Dorothy in PA! 👏👏🌺
Also love the tearoom. Happy, lucky you! 👍

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Sally, I do feel fortunate to have doll friends and tea friends. Actually most of my friends are both!

    2. Barbara in SE Texas

A Zoom tea. That would be so much fun! I’ve read the Tea Room Mysteries series from Guideposts. They are so much fun to read about two cousins who’ve both lost their husbands and returned to the area where they grew up in Maine and started a tea room in an old Victorian mansion. They live on the second floor. If you haven’t read them, I know you would love them. If you lived closer you could borrow mine.

      1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Barbara, I have not read these but I have heard of them. I will do a search for them on Amazon. Thanks for this information.

I am glad that my original posting appeared as I didn’t mention teas in my second posting.

Dear Jeanne, I did post a comment but it disappeared. Hmmmm. I must have a mischievous little computer elf who derailed my comment.

I love how the outfit is coming together.
