I might not be able to knit a sweater, but I can sew one…

DON’T FORGET:
The auction for the romper set I made for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends ends this evening on Ebay…if you want to check it out, click on the picture at the right side bar or click HERE.

On this blog, we don’t care if a holiday passes and someone gets pictures to me a day or two late, do we? I didn’t think so… So may I present Joy’s group of Ruby Red Fashion Friends in their Patriotic outfits…

Any of my pictures will enlarge if you click on them.

She said the wind was blowing her flags and taking pictures was a bit difficult. I think the difficult part would be getting all those kids dressed and having them stay in their seats! She also told me Luca was sulking because she didn’t get his new shirt finished and he wanted to show it to Stella… Joy assured me it would be done tomorrow… Nice job, Joy! Thanks or sharing! :o)

I wanted to make 2 more pieces for this romper set… one was this headband…It has a knotted bow on top and snaps together at the ends behind her neck…

The second thing I wanted to make was a sweater…but I don’t know how to knit… so I improvised. I’ve had this sock monkey fabric for years and thought if I was ever going to use it, this was the time… I just made a little boxy jacket that has a lining in it and has a bit of decoration on the top shoulder area… If the winner doesn’t like it with this set, they can use if with something else…

I LOVE how this fabric looks like it’s really a knitted piece… Well, at least it does a little bit… :o)

Here are a few more pictures of Stella in the whole set…

She sure does like JoJo… :o)

I’ll either see you at the end of the auction tonight, or tomorrow morning (for coffee, if you drink it!) :o)

Blessings, Jeanne

How perfectly PERFECT everything looks, Jeanne! I can’t get over that everything you add is just adorable and fits the theme so well! If this isn’t a winner, I don’t know what is! Love the hairband, and that sweater is just perfect for the ensemble! Am I saying “perfect” a lot? LOL

The sweater dresses up the set, wile it turns more playful when removed! So many things can Stella do with that darling outfit!

Joy, you have quite a collection of RRFF dolls! And I see that you have a lot of clothes for them too! Just figuring who wears what is a time consuming activity, at least at my house! Do you make most all of the clohtes they wear? Jeanne, did you ever get my pictures I sent for the 4th of July?

We are back into the “hot stuff” again, namely 90 plus degrees and humidity, but …..it’s July! Totally predictible!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Hi, Linda. Yes, I do make most of the clothes for my dolls. I didn’t make Maya’s dress on the right, Eira’s white pants, or July Joy’s flag dress in the back row, but the rest yes. I had to dig around to find shoes that matched for everyone which really wasn’t necessary as the shoes ended up not showing anyway. 🙂 Thanks

    2. Thank you Linda,
I’m SO sorry I missed your 4th of July pictures, but not to worry, you’ll see them tomorrow… I was so busy getting that romper figured out… I missed your pictures…

I’m glad you like Stella’s “Faux sweater” and think it looks okay… I wasn’t sure… but “I” liked it… but not everyone likes what “I” like…

Yes, we are hot again today too… but we have a very slight breeze… I might try and make it outside to take some pics of Stella, but she sure doesn’t need that sweater today!
Hope you are staying cool inside!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Charlotte Trayer

Joy, it was so nice to see all your RRFF kids! Congrats on getting them all into red/white/blue outfits for the 4th!! My Maya still doesn’t have her plisse’ dress to wear yet–although the skirt panels are now gathered and pinned to the yokes, and the sleeves are ready to add when that’s done. But it just seems, what with church obligations and taking care of Ron and now my own little issues (I now have a UTI, and also have a small cavity–after quite a few years without one–that will need to be fixed), Anyway, I do love your beautiful garments; they are inspiring me to do something like that for next year!

Jeanne, I had thought maybe some kind of hairband or hat, but wasn’t expecting the little jacket! How cute is that?! And of course it will go with other things, as well–I was thinking a brown or light tan fine wale corduroy skirt or maybe slacks. I do love that style of jacket, too–the cropped style will work over even a pretty full skirt, as well as narrower garments. You have a winner for sure in this outfit!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Charlotte, can’t wait to see Maya’s dress. Hope you can finish it soon. Stay well.

    2. Hi Charlotte,
I was busy getting Stella’s romper set listed, so now I can finish with my comments.
So sorry for your daily troubles… sometimes life is just plain hard to deal with… I’m glad you have your sewing and your church to keep you happy!
I’m glad you like my “faux” sweater.. I think it looks pretty cute myself… and love the fabric. It’s pretty deceptive when you aren’t looking at it up close…
Some brown corduroy pants would be darling with it… thanks…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. I lost my whole post just now! I’m not sure what happened. So…. I’ll start again…
I just wanted to say if this outfit on Stella isn’t adorable, I don’t know what is! I love that she has a cute headband on and the sweater is perfect. I’m impressed you thought to use the sock material for it. Genius ! And with the monkey appliqué and little stuffed monkey- perfect too!! This outfit will go fast! I just realized she has tan tights on too. Jeanne, this is a winner! Love it. Again, wish I had a Stella too- I’d be bidding on this outfit.

Joy, your picture of the RRFF kids is amazing. Each outfit is unique and very patriotic in colors and style. Tell Luca, I actually like his outfit the best. It’s very cute snd boyish. All the kids look great in their special 4th of July outfits. It’s a wonderful group picture. Chairs included!!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks, Paula. I’ll tell Luca. Maybe he’ll get out of his slump. Funny you should mention the chairs. They are actually picture frames I picked up on sale a couple of years ago at Joann’s. I just cover up the back with a throw. 🙂

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Picture frames? With legs and arms? How does that work, Joy? They are adorable!

        1. Joann’s/Michael’s often have different beach theme photo frames. I happened to find the chair set. I really should paint the back of the chair to match, but haven’t gotten to it. They were very inexpensive at the end of season sale.

          1. Hi Joy,
Yep, I have to agree…very clever and very creative! I’ve gotten things like that before at Pier One before they went out of business here…
            Thanks… LOVE Luca’s new shirt… I may have to show it… :o)
            Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Paula,
Sorry you lost your post the first time… that can be aggravating…
Thanks for your glowing compliments on Stella’s outfit. I do love this one so much… sometimes that happens… I think it’s the color… I love navy accented with browns… guess we’ll see if I’m the only one how likes it… :o)

Joy just sent me a new picture of Luca in his new outfit…he’s a pretty cute little guy! He’s got a crush on Stella… but it’s strange…he’s surrounded by all those girls and he likes one in Illinois… :o)
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, the ensemble is adorable. Happy auctioning!

Joy’s children definitely look cute in their patriotic colors.

I agree with you. The Sofa Sisters can celebrate any holiday at any time. Merry Christmas in July! Ho, ho, ho (laugh).

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

My Lissy (named M’Liss) loves the idea of taking tea with Alyssa. Hopefully one day.

    2. HI Dorothy,
Is my face red? I forgot someone else’s 4th of July pictures…but you’ll see them tomorrow… I can’t believe I missed them… but we just love dolls in cute clothes, don’t we… so bring on the holidays, even if it’s past the holidays!
I was actually debating about doing a Christmas in July set for one of my dolls… I did one for Navi last year and it was a hit! I guess I still have time as there is still time left in July!
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    3. Anne Coldron in New Zealand

Lol Dorothy, over here there are often Christmas in July celebrations, in fact I am going to one today. No presents of course but it is so hot at Christmas that we don’t have the normal style of Christmas food which is very much winter food!

  5. Joy in northern CA

Oh, I love Stella’s outfit additions. That sweet plaid headband/bow is so perfect, and the jacket a dream. Who would have thought sock monkey fabric? Guess who also has some leftover sock monkey fabric? Moi. 🙂 Hum, ideas ideas.
I did look for iron on thingies and found a lot online. I can never find anything in smaller sizes at our only fabric store, Joann’s.
I’ve heard talk that there may be other boy RRFF kids in the future. Have no idea of the size though. Luca wants a brother. Can you guess why? 🙂
I promised Luca that his shirt would be done today unless other person has something that might change plans. His shorts are done though. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
I can’t believe you have some sock monkey fabric too! It would be fun to make tiny little sock monkeys… but I wasn’t that ambitious… I’ll have to look again for appliques online and also check out what I have patterns for from my embroidery machine…duh! Ironing them on is just so much faster… :o)
Luca is pretty cute… and it appears from your picture of him that you got to do what YOU wanted to do today and not what someone else wanted… I had to give my hubby a haircut but I still found time to get Stella’s outfit listed… it goes on Ebay 5 minutes after Rozen’s romper ends…
I have 800+ views on Rozen’s set… we’ll have to see how Stella’s does. Her Farmer’s Market set was the one that broke a record for me… :o) These girls are certainly earning their keep!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Such a fun outfit. Every detail went together adorably Having a healthy fabric/sewing stash really can be inspiring. Kudos to you and a great model, Stella!
Looking at Joy’s kids I can almost hear the chatter between photo takes. What a celebration it must have been. Thank you so much for sharing. Joy since you have both Hanna and Kayla can you tell me if they have the same face mold? Is it just the makeup that gives them a different look? I keep trying to compare pic’s but just can’t tell. Possible purchase could be pending!
    Keep cool everyone.

    1. I am no expert, but I believe Hanna and Kayla are of different molds. Hanna is an Effner mold and Kayla by Leannie of RRFF. There are so many cute ones that the decision is difficult. 🙂

      1. Joy thank you so much for checking and I was able to find a site (Poppets & Posies) that gave all info on the RRFF and Kayla is indeed a different sculpt by Ruby Ho. That site has ALL the issued dolls even for other countries. Thanks again.

    2. HI Dorothy,
Fortunately I had all the pieces I needed for this set to be made… well, except for the monkey applique, but once I got it, it all started working… I couldn’t have planned for this any better.
I’m like you, Dorothy, I keep looking at the RRFF dolls and trying to see the differences in them or guess which dolls they are… It’s not as easy as it is guessing the Effner Little Darling different sculpts… I DO have that down…
I like your last line… “Possible purchase could be pending! ” :o) Ooooo, I’m going to look at that Poppets & Posies site… :o)
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Susette from Southern California

Joy’s Toys are so cute in their 4th of July finery. Very clever with the picture frames.

Why learn to knit when you are so resourceful with fabric? This outfit will be one of my top favorites. Glad you persevered with the pattern.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Thanks Susette! I haven’t been able to stalk stores for some time to look for dolly things. Miss that. 🙂

    2. HI Susette,
I used to know the basics of knitting, but only did things like scarves or pot holders… I would be happy to just learn how to make one kind of little doll sweater… simple but cute… maybe someday I can teach myself how to do it… but I’m not holding my breath…
Thanks for liking it enough to be one of your favorites… It’s way up there for me too… I was pretty proud of myself for even trying to figure out the pattern pieces… now it’s become like a thing I HAVE to get perfected…
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessigns, Jeanne

  8. Laura in Ohio

Hi Joy, Your little group is so cute in their red, white, and blue. I can’t imagine why Luca should be sulking surrounded by all those pretty girls. He’s a handsome boy in his own right. Amazing that those chairs are picture frames. I guess they would look adorable with beach photos. Late pictures are no problem. The Victorians did celebrate Christmas in July because that’s when they started homemade Christmas gifts Clement Clarke Moore (“The Night before Christmas”) was born July 15th and was always honored with a party.

Hi Jeanne, Stella’s outfit is just the cutest. Love the look of the hairband and the sweater is perfect. You even had a monkey for the set. I really like the all over fun and playful look. Your little birdhouse bench prop is really sweet. My friend, Tina, has one also, in human size.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Had no idea about the Victorians.
Luca is the only boy so far, and part of his gloom is that as well as my not finishing his new outfit. 🙂

    2. HI Laura,
I was wondering the same thing… why is Luca pining away for Stella when he’s got a harem right there in the same house with him? :o)
I’m sharing a few more Fourth of July pictures tomorrow… a couple more I missed… by accident… I don’t have any problems at all with showing belated Holiday doll outfits! :o)

It’s funny, I really had everything for this set… but didn’t realize it until I bought that monkey applique…that’s what started it all.. So glad you like it…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

Joy your kiddoes look adorable in their wonderful July 4th finery. And I love the use of the picture frames for chairs. Also, there are really cute phone holders that make great chairs too. I knew the names of all except Eira. Tell Luca he looks perfect and very appropriate for the picture in his patriotic shirt and shorts and we are looking forward to seeing him in his new outfit when it is ready.

What adorable additions to the monkeying around outfit. The hair adornment is about the limit of what you will find on my dolls and is perfect for this outfit. And the jacket is a wonderful addition. I don’t knit either so I found some very nice pieces of sweater knit fabric on the remnant table at my local JoAnn’s. I haven’t used it yet but have several things in mind. Your comment yesterday about Rebecca having trouble finding long enough pants is one I can relate to. My daughter is quite tall also and had the same problem. But it was worse for my youngest sister years ago before girls were so tall. She’s 5’11” and often bought jeans in the men’s department to get them long enough. And the idea that Columbia kids go to school year around was a surprise. They tried that with one of the school districts here for a couple years and it didn’t work well. Because of high school sports they had to stay with the usual schedule but the elementary and middle schools ended up being on opposing schedules. My friend who had kids in three different levels could not even take a vacation because one of the boys was always in school. Thankfully they gave that up years ago because that’s the school district my grandkids are in now.

I didn’t get back to reading comments until late in the day yesterday so I’m commenting on some of them now.

There were a couple comments about not wanting to receive bald-headed dolls. Guess they better not order a Meadow doll. They come hairless and eyeless. It intimidated me at first because I never put in dolls eyes and it was before I knew how to locate doll wigs. But Lolla ended up looking adorable and I did like having the choices.

Sally, I have changed my LD and Boneka’s wigs but did keep to the original colors so they would have more than one hairstyle. It was easy because their wigs kept falling off. I bought some “wig velcro” and it works well but it’s still easy to remove the wigs.

Reading Anne’s comment about the school year in New Zealand took some thought. It’s hard for me to imagine the school year being the opposite of ours. And as for holiday birthdays, well mine always fell during Christmas break (12/26). Two of my sisters were March and the other July. I may have had the day off for my birthday but I could never have a party. Everyone was off to grandma’s the day after Christmas. My mother had no problem putting together birthday parties for my sisters.

Lorna and Sally mentioned uniforms. Our middle school here has standardized dress (khaki, black or navy slacks/skirts and a few different colored polo shirts) but it never took hold in elementary or high school. My grandkids went to a Charter School last year and had to wear uniforms (khaki slacks and really pretty red and white polo-type shirts). This year Skyy will be in middle school but his parents did not like the reviews for the two Charter options so he’s back in regular school this year and I don’t know if they have standardized dress or not. Jaiden will be in the Charter School for another two years.

We started back in Chorale last evening and I’m over the moon. Our director is having voice renewal sessions because many have not sung for the past year. She’s doing sectionals and we will be having these every couple weeks until our rehearsals start again in August. Last night was for the sopranos and most showed up. Some had a conflict so she told them to come on any of the other nights. We were all so glad to be back. A concert of uplifting music is planned for early November.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I’ve seen those chair phone holders. Unfortunately, I didn’t pick one up when they had them at the dollar place, and now with shipping have gone way up.
Luca is still pouting as his shirt still needs the sleeves done. Going to have to wait until we get back from the other house as we have things to do up there. I’ll let him know you liked his outfit. Maybe he’ll cheer up. 🙂

    2. HI Barbara,
Yes, I’ve seen some of those phone holders at Pier One and they are so cute… they are perfect props for the smaller dolls…
Thanks for your compliments on Stella’s new romper set… I am very happy with how it turned out and Stella is too! I was going to just make Stella a jacket, sort of like a bomber jacket, but when I ran across this sock monkey fabric in my stash, I had to decide if it was going to be used for a hat or sweater… I decided to go for the sweater and just make a headband instead…
I’m used to my dolls being nude, so when I see them bald, without a wig on, it doesn’t bother me one bit…
I’m glad your Choral group is meeting again… I know that was important to you… I hope no one has lost their sense of singing since they sang last… :o)
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

    3. Anne Coldron in New Zealand

Barbara, my sisters birthday is the same day as yours. We did have a party on that day but it was usually only family because of it being the holidays. My youngest granddaughter has her birthday on 29th and here everyone goes off on their summer holidays right after Christmas. Sam has always had special parties for the other two but hasn’t the energy right after Christmas for Ashley to have one even supposing there was anyone to come. . My friends son has his birthday on 21 Dec and they always celebrated it in June with a party and presents. I never had a problem with my boys because it was so close to going back to school that everyone was home and getting ready, they always had a joint party on the Saturday between their birthdays.

  10. Kathie from Omaha

I thought the addition of the monkey and the boots were cute accessories but OMGosh that sweater is adorable! I’ve tried using sweater fabric to sew a sweater and the seams all stretched and it looked awful! Yours is perfect!
This could be one of my top ten favorites.Hope the auction goes crazy!
Joy..your July 4th outfits look so freaking cute…let alone all the Meadow dolls you dressed.
Thank you for doing that it is a lot of work getting them all dressed and posed. I located my July items and didn’t get them on the Little Darlings…they are pouting too🙁

    1. Joy in northern CA

Yes, around here we know that pouting! It really is surprising how long it takes to get those that don’t wiggle dressed as well as those squirrels. 🙂 I would love to see your LD’s.

    2. Hi Kathie,
Well, my “faux” sweater was made from cotton fabric that only looked like it was a knit… it was just like sewing one of my doll dresses… only it didn’t look like it…
Whenever I’ve sewn sweater fabric… I always put paper pieces underneath what I am sewing to hold it in place and keep it’s shape…
Well, 35 minutes after it was listed I got the first bid… so we’ll see… I’m telling you, that Stella is working hard at earning her keep here! :o)

It seems we have an epidemic of pouting dollies… from California to Nebraska to my house… my bigger girls think they have been abandoned… I keep telling them they haven’t but they don’t believe me… I just needed to do a little fun sewing on who I wanted…
      Thank Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Ingrid B in NY

    Hi Jeanne,
Love your take on the romper. Well done! I can’t pick a favorite they are equally sweet. I see a bidding war happening. Excited to see who’s next… Molly??? Jeanne I just wanted to add I think your home looks so charming, new sewing studio, new kitchen, new roof, newly stained barn everything always looks so neat and tidy! You and hubby are a wonderful team and truly an awesome inspiration!
Joy, your girls and Luca are just adorable! Love the red, white and blue theme. I think it works for more than just the 4th. I haven’t had much free time to play with my newest girl but I did give Hazel eye lashes and I think she looks adorable. ; )
Charlotte, praying for you and Ron. UTI’s aren’t fun. Not that cranberry juice will heal your UTI but taking it as a preventative really works. I actually get cranberry chews in the vitamin section at walmart. I’m not a huge fan of cranberry juice but I can get 2 chews down easy enough. Sorry about your cavity… I feel your pain. Take care <3
    Hugs to everyone
    Ingrid

    1. Awww… Ingrid, thank you so much… but you should see my kitchen right now… it’s not very charming… my neighbor gave me 5 gallon bucket filled half way up with peaches that were seconds… I didn’t want to see them go to waste so I’ve been making muffins using as many as I could… so it’s not quite “picture worthy” today… but thank you anyway… I appreciate your kind words…
How have you been feeling, Ingrid? Has your taste and smell ever returned? I sure hope so…
It’s fun to see other ladies dolls all dressed up, isn’t it? I love the set ups Joy always does… out on her back deck, I’m presuming… with all those little girls and boy now…
Who is Hazel? A Connie Lowe doll? I have forgotten… can we see a picture of her?
Thanks Ingrid… nice to hear from you again…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Marilyn from Colorado

Joy’s RRFFs look wonderful in their red, white, and blue outfits. I think it’s more fun to have our holiday photos spread out over several days so we can appreciate one set at a time.

Changing your shortall pattern just a little made a huge difference and the tights are very becoming — and the boots really work with this outfit. You are right about the brown and denim — it’s perfect for fall. I also like the Christmas in July idea. That might work for Felicity — a white dress with a blue sash for summer and a plaid sash for winter. Or a Victorian one for Addy.
