“Emily,” my Ashton Drake doll by Dianna Effner, is now on Ebay…

I don’t know what it is about me being so busy lately… but I am just going like a mad woman trying to get things done… I had a meeting this morning, went to town after that, looking for a certain fabric to match something I am making, found it, came home, ate lunch, painted the final coat on the frames in my kitchen, painted the second coat of the top coat on the backsides of the cabinet doors…(2 coats on the front side and those doors will be ready to go up!!) Then I looked up a few things about Emily so I could get my Ebay listing correct, worked on getting Emily’s listing scheduled to go on in the evening, made dinner, did my dishes, and now I’m writing my post for Tuesday.

My day is gone and now it’s 10:15 p.m. Good grief… I guess there’s always tomorrow… :o)

Isn’t Anne’s doll pretty? I know there is hope for her! I did see that Kathie (who has a doll hospital) answered some of her questions, and I saw where Anne actually found someone close to her that might be able to help her with her new porcelain doll. I think she has lots of possibilities…

A few of you asked about Emily… I did find her at a thrift store in town, but she wasn’t $3.00 like the AG dolls were that Rebecca found for me… I started her off at a reasonable price and hope someone will like her enough to buy her.

Carole…you asked about restringing your American Girl doll’s legs? I did 2 posts on them… one was an easy temporary fix with scruncie hair bands and the other way was the longer version using new elastic and brass or copper ferrels… (I think I got both of those at Lowe’s) The elastic is like the bungee cord elastic and I don’t know what section I got it in but I got about a yard cut at some place in the store…

Here are the two posts I did on restringing the dolls legs… click on each one to see that post…

Restringing your American Girl dolls legs… the long way…

Here is a shorter/easier way to get your dolls legs workable… you still have to unstuff the doll…

Fixing your dolls legs with scruncie’s

I thought I’d show you a few more pictures of Emily. You can check her out by clicking the picture of her at the right side bar or you can click HERE.

She does have porcelain legs from her upper thigh to her feet… and here’s that pink fabric again… she looks very pretty next to it!

Well, that’s it for me today…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Well, I see that Emily has one bid already!! Good for you, Jeanne!

Yes, that pink fabric is lovely next to her skin.

I finished Bella’s new dress tonight and will try to get some pictures of Bella and Hanna, and send them to you shortly.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I barely got Emily listed and a bid came!!
I’m happy that someone can add her to their collection and love her…
Congrats on getting your dress for Bella finished…I bet she’s thrilled!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Jeanne, is there any doll that pink floral wouldn’t work for? It’s a bit magical!

I have my living room walls half scrubbed. I can start painting the primer coat. When I get that done 2 huge book cases are moving. They will stay in the new area. Then more scrubbing.

    1. Hi Julia,
I had a couple other fabrics that might have worked just as well, but this one was by far the prettiest…

You will love your new updated room…the hardest part is just finding the motivation to get started…at least for me it is… (seriously, I can’t play ALL the time!)
Hope you get it painted quickly!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Emily is such a sweet little doll with those pretty brown eyes, curls and the little rosebuds in her hair! I don’t think you will have any trouble selling her….why, there is one bid already!

Wow, it is going up to the 60’s today, and last week the high was 4 and we had 8 inches f snow n the ground! What a difference a week makes!

      1. Hi Linda,
I think Emily is a very sweet doll and really hope whoever gets her loves her to pieces. She is such a cutie…
        Yes, what a difference a week makes…
we have a nice sunshine day too!!
        Thanks Linda,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  4. So cabinet questions. Are you using a brush or roller for the doors and cabinet edge facings? Are you spraying the cabinet doors? Are you using a paint additive that eliminates brush strokes? I understand that there is something like that. Here, we will need a strong bonding paint. Lots of old paint here. Any paint brand likes? Thanks. I really need to redo our existing cabinets.
Wearing our I got vaccinated stickers around here. 2nd round yesterday and no ill effects. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
I am NO expert on painting… just trying to follow the suggestions Cindy gave me…
My paint is Pro Classsic by Sherwin Williams..watch for their sales…I got mine at 40% of during one of their sales…
      My finish is semi-gloss.
I was going to use a foam roller but it made it look like cheesecake…a tiny bit dimpled, so I switched to a nice soft bristled angled 1 1/2″ paint brush and used long strokes…it made a world of difference in the appearance when it dried!
I sand after each coat except he to finsl coat..on my cabinets, I did 2 coats od Sherwin Williams primer and 2 top cats of the Pro Classic.
I did buy the additive for my paint and added it to the gallon…it was only a tiny bit to the gallon…maybe 1 TBSP or something like that… it helps with the paint brush marks…and I think it helps…. try not to keep going over an area to much… the paint is a self leveling one and it settles vinyl when laying flat…I didn’t hang my cabinets like some people do…mine were laying flat up on blocks…
When yo take your hardware off mark each of your cabinets with a number. I wrote the numbers on a piece of blue tape and put that down n the hole where the hinge was taken off. Then mark if the hinge is top or bottom and put all the components in a baggie wirh same number as the cabinet and lay it in the back of the cabinet… I never mixed anything up and each baggie of hardware was the exact same hardware that came off of that door or drawer…hope this helps…
The prep work seems never ending but its what makes them look so nice. I might be slow, but I’m trying to do the very job I can.
      Thanks Joy…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Emily is darling, the ad looks good. I am over the moon on that pink fabric . Hope the bidder goes over the 75.00. Have fun painting🥴

    1. Hi Kathie,
Well, this should be an interesting auction…I got the first bid right away and just since 8:40 last night, I’ve gotten 242 hits on it and there are 32 watchers…Emily’s getting lots of attention now!! :o)
      Thanks Kathie
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Jeanne, your Emily doll was a real find. I guess she will go to a collector. I think I am a bit like joy, I don’t really want a doll I can’t play with, However my grandaughter, Caitlyn actually loves the porcelain dolls, just to look at, so if I ever get mine fixed up and dressed I might give it to her.
Thank you everyone for your advice, yesterday. Kathie, I will send my address to Jeanne for her to pass on. I would be very grateful for the lashes. Yesterday, when I went into the “about us” part of the web site I found, it said the shop had been sold. It didn’t say to whom and I couldn’t find anyone else in NZ who had the kind of supplies I needed. It was a shame because there were all sorts of things I would have like to buy. I would send the doll to you to fix up if it weren’t for the prohibitive postage charges but hopefully lashes won’t be too much. I could probably do with some advice on how to use styrofoam to make a pate as well.
We had 32 C and same today so pretty hot at the moment, it is 21C now at 7.30 am so will have to take the dog out soon or it will be too hot for him. I probably need to get him clipped again soon.

    1. Hi Anne,
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear the one shop you were hoping could help you was closed…surely someone knows someone who knew who this person was and you can get connected…

I will be happy to pass along your address to Kathie…I hope you can get your doll all fixed up…eyelashes are pretty easy…all you need are the eyelashes, a toothpick and some glue…
      Thanks Anne,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. We’ll there’s an idea — it’s time for a post about cabinet painting, what you are doing and why you made those choices. There seems to be a lot of interest, and if we aren’t painting now, some of us will be. Your followers will have advice to add, and we know Cindy paints and makes interesting and useful choices. A column that links all your painting tips might be useful — or 3 columns — walls, cabinets, and furniture.

A dress like Emily’s, but with long puffy sleeves, might work for Anne’s doll. The other idea I had is that the stuffing for her doll seems soft enough that she might be able to create a waist, which would allow more possibilities. There’s lots of online inspiration https://www.google.com/search?source=univ&tbm=isch&q=children%27s+clothes+in+the+1900s&client=firefox-b-1-d&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiNir361YDvAhUHvZ4KHXiRDWMQjJkEegQIBRAB&biw=1716&bih=966

I thought someone mentioned a boot pattern on Pixie Faire. That might be useful.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Joy just asked some questions and I tried to answer them as best I could…I probably need o show some pictures too…

I definitely think Anne’s doll is worth saving…the bodies seem so strange when they are unclothed. But when a dress is covering them, you don’t remember what’s beneath…
I think Anne made boots for that purple dress, so I know she old come up with some shoes for her doll…I bet in a month we won’t believe it’s the same doll.
      Thanks Marilyn,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Thank you Jeanne for the link to your tutorial. You make it look so easy. and very detailed. I can’t wait to get my supplies an d work on Sam. Thank you again.
