Did I see a “challenge” for American Girl, Elizabeth, to have some Evening Gloves?

I think I did… Miss Joy… and I aim to please! At least I try…

I finished Elizabeth’s dress with some white silk ribbons tied in bows at the empire waistline. They dangle down the front of the dress and were just enough “decoration” to suit me… I’m glad you all agreed that the white applique I pinned on the bodice wasn’t right… when I got in bed, I almost grabbed my phone and edited those pictures out of the post. I knew it wasn’t right…

But… I hope you’ll all agree that the silk ribbons work…

On the back of the dress I found some tiny little flower buttons in an almost frosted-like finish… I added a tiny blue seed bead before sewing them on and even though they are not very noticeable, they are very pretty and dainty for this dress… that’s what I was going for… dainty and feminine! Snaps close the dress all the way to the hem… (it’s easier to put on this way.)

I hemmed the dress as long as I could by just turning up the bare minimum and stitching it.

Rebecca made Elizabeth a white glass pearl necklace. It closes in back with a magnetic clasp and is super easy to put on…

Now for the evening gloves… I only had a few white stretch fabrics to choose from… (little girls tights, actually) and I tried to pick the one that went with the dress the best. I think it does… It took me a few tries to get the thumb right, and I think if I tried a few more times, I could nail it, but I think they turned out fine… I added some pearls scrunched up near the top of the glove…

So that leaves the headpiece… and I didn’t have time to get anything made… I may do as Dorothy suggested and just leave her hair in a tie… but I’d make it a finished tie, not a raw edged one… We’ll see…

Here are a few more pictures… The fabric is kind of a cross between blue and a light periwinkle color… but it looks bluish in my pictures… It’s a very pretty color…

Well, that’s it for today…
From snowy and ice covered Southern Illinois,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. This is absolutely beautiful, Jeanne! I love the two ribbons at the empire waistline, I actually was going t mention that, but was thinking of blue ones, but oh my, the white ones are just perfect! The tiny little flower buttons are so pretty in the back, but you do backs as pretty as the fronts!! No surprise there!

And the elbow length gloves! Elizabeth looks ready to go to the opera! I am not sure if you remember, but you made some for me years ago, by years, I mean maybe 6 or 7 years ago and they were for a dress that was supposed to have them, but since I got it off Ebay, did not. They were a lacy fabric, but I want to tell you that they are used a lot with different dresses, not just the one you made it for. Insterad of pearls, you used tiny gold beads at the top. Remember those?

The pearl necklace is perfect for this dress! What more can I say? Since Elizabeth is already wearing pearl earrings, it matches perfectly! Am I saying “perfect” a lot? 🙂

Yep, snowy and icy is right to describe it here too! With everybody falling, we better not!!

    1. Thank you Linda,
I think Elizabeth looks very grown up too and I couldn’t be happier at how this looks on her…
I think I remember making some for you, but couldn’t find any pictures of them, so I thought I just imagined making some… I did remember the gold beads at the top where they were scrunched up. I would have liked Elizabeth’s to be a little more lacy but didn’t have any white lace that would work… I may dig a little deeper in my fabrics and see if can’t find something lacier…
Well, I’m glad you think it’s perfect, because Elizabeth thinks so too!
      Thank you Linda…
      Blessings, Jeanne

I agree, Linda; absolutely perfect! The long gloves, the ribbon accents, the pearl necklace….just perfect. It could almost be a wedding or bridesmaid gown, as well as something to wear to the opera!!

Thank you all, for your concern and prayers for me. I really appreciate it. My foot isn’t as sore today as I thought it would be, but oh, my, is it getting colorful!! LOL My second and third toes went from having a tiny dot of a bruise on each this morning to wide bands of bruising plus some swelling this evening. Well, truth to tell, I probably did too much walking today (two grocery stores–although I did use an electric cart in one–plus the Hallmark store and the post office!) so am paying for it now. My doctor did call in a prescription for a mild pain reliever; I was halving and using what was left from my back last year, so tomorrow I do need to go and pick that up, anyway–but I can go to the drive-thru for that, if I want to.

Oh, Ingrid, I’m sorry your taste/smell haven’t come back yet. I heard the other day that they are finding that certain essential oils (the stronger ones), when held up to the nose for about 20 seconds at a time, several times a day, are helpful in speeding along the return of those senses. You might want to do a little research and try that out. Oils like peppermint, clove, and so on. I was thinking, maybe even Vicks VapoRub might work–we all know what a strong odor it has! LOL

Again, thanks to all my sofa sisters!

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I’m not sure what Elizabeth will be doing in this dress, but you gave some possibilities for her storyline. Thank you for your compliments…

Oh, I do hope your foot gets better soon… and I know too well about the colors a bruise can make as I too, had a fall and hurt the outside of my foot. Actually I’ve done it twice… once in 2014 on my left foot and then 2019 on my right foot…
Keep us up to date on your “foot of many colors!” :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thank you Christine,
I always love making Regency dresses and none of my dolls wear them quite like Elizabeth does!

  3. First off, please do be careful to anyone living in ice land. I’ve heard of and seen some awful damage caused from falls on ice.
Elizabeth’s dress is absolutely lovely with just enough accent to make it shine. I really do like the white ribbons and their length at the high waist. They make the lace and pearls pop. And the elbow length gloves are just as I imagined. Jeanne the Genie’s magic touch strikes again. What a wonderful presentation. 🙂
My new Lowe girls are in the mail and on the way. I believe a welcome party is in order. We’ll see.

    1. HI Joy,
I am being VERY careful when I’m outside… and looking like a grandma when I walk, but ask me if I care… I don’t! :o)
Thanks for liking all of Elizabeth’s dress parts… I think it looks pretty sweet on her too.. and you should see her smile when she’s not being photographed… she loves it and said she feels so grown up…
Oh goody…new dolls… for Joy… and “maybe” one for me too! :o)
We can both have a welcome party! I LIKE welcome parties! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I love the dress. I think it would make Mr. Darcy swoon (do men swoon?).

Hello from snow covered PA. Only 79 days until May 1.

    1. HI Dorothy,
I don’t know if men “swoon” or not, but my hubby sure likes this one… it’s BLUE (his favorite color) and he said she looks so feminine! Yay!
Hello from icy and snowy southern Illinois… Yay May! Hurry up and get here! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Greetings from snowy and icy Ohio. The winter sun tried to come out for a few minutes this morning.
Elizabeth’s dress is absolutely gorgeous. Blue is her color. The ribbons give just the right amount of decoration to the waistline. Those little flower buttons are so sweet. Oh, the gloves. I absolutely adore gloves. Elizabeth must be so excited as it’s her first year of doing “The Season”.

    1. HI Laura,
I was waiting for your reaction as I know you love these kinds of dresses. Isn’t Elizabeth just shining in this? She looks so pretty in blue and will ALWAYS be my best Regency girl…
      Thanks so much!
      Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, I meant to mention those buttons….I am Coveting them!! LOL So pretty. I do love buttons, and probably will never have to buy another button as long as I live, even if I live to be 100!! LOL

    1. HI Alina,
I have a few years of experience ahead of you, I’m sure… Just keep practicing and you’ll be able to make one one of these days… Thanks for your kind compliment on it…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Alina, lovely to hear from you again.
Jeanne, the dress is just lovely. Like everyone else I think everything is perfect.
Take care in the snow and ice everyone. It is raining again here hope it clears up in time to take the dog for a walk he didn’t get much of one yesterday.
Sam had her last chemo on Wednesday and I took her to the hospital for a CAT scan yesterday. It will be another week or so before she gets the results but we are praying that the surgery and 15 months of chemo will have fixed the problem. I’ll let you know

    1. Anne, I’m so praying for positive results for Sam. Your family deserves to have this behind them. But I really do admire the ability of all of you to keep on keeping on in spite of difficult times. You are and inspiration.

    2. HI Anne,
Thank you for your compliments on Elizabeth’s dress. It turned out as pretty as I hoped it would… Doesn’t Elizabeth wear blue the absolute best of any of my girls?
I too, pray that Sam’s results will be good and she can start having a life again, outside of chemo treatments. It’s a hard thing to go through…
      Blessings to you both,
      Jeanne

  7. Jeanne, this dress is so elegant. It’s as if Elizabeth is attending a special evening event with her parents for the the very first time. Everyone’s dressed in their finest and her mother had this outfit designed and made especially for Elizabeth.
The delicate ribbons fall gracefully down the front of her gown and the little flowers on the back are so sweet. Her pearls and long gloves are the perfect accessories.
    This outfit is beautiful.

    1. Thank you Paula,
It certainly does look elegant on Elizabeth… and she’s thrilled with how she looks in the mirror. She doesn’t look 10 years old in this does she?
I’m glad you liked all the pieces so far… now to decide on her storyline…
      Thanks again,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. I am sitting here struggling to type this comment because my hands are FREEZING!! It’s 2:11 p.m. here in southeast Texas and it is 35 degrees. I just had to take the dog out and I don’t know where I put my gloves. Then I had to move some clothes from the washer to the dryer. Unfortunately my washer and dryer are in the garage on the north side of my house. My son told me that the temp expected for Monday is 14 degrees and we might have snow. Rather that than the ice we usually get.

I love Elizabeth’s ensemble. She does indeed look elegant. All the little finishing touches are perfect and the gloves are very nice. Her simple pearl necklace is the crowning touch. The flowers with seed pearls on the back of the dress look so sweet.

    1. Thank you Barbara,
It’s 26 degrees here and the wind chill is 14… I’m cold too and spend time standing in front of a little heater we have every time I go by it…
I made a big pot of pinto beans and ham last night and now I’m wanting to make a big pot of some kind of soup or even chili… something to warm me up inside…

I should a post where I just ask everyone what is the temperature where you are… I might!

Thanks for your compliments on Elizabeth’s dress. I appreciate them…
      Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Barbara, I am wondering where you live. I am also in southeast Texas. I am about half and half between Lake Jackson and Victoria.

      1. Caroline, I live in Sealy on I-10 west of Katy but still a ways from San Antonio. We are actually 50 miles exactly from downtown Houston.

        1. Yes, I know where Sealy is—between Houston and Columbus. I think it’s interesting that we aren’t that far apart.

  9. Belated congratulations to you and the winner on Sara’s dress. You almost doubled your opening price, and the dress was worth it. I’d love to see Sara in a dress like Elizabeth’s, but shorter and with pantalettes. Of course she’d be cute in an outfit from any period.

The blue dress is lovely and the gloves suit it perfectly. Does she need a headpiece? It would be nice to have something to hold hr hair back. Maybe a few white flowers and a ribbon — something the will not distract from the purity of the overall look.

    1. Thank you for your congrats on Sara’s dress, Marilyn. It was fun watching the views go up and up… I might get spoiled watching them…

I think Sara would be cute in a regency dress too…

Well, Elizabeth didn’t get a headpiece but just a pretty white bow this time. I just got it listed on Ebay…its called Winter’s Dream..
      Thank you Marilyn
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. My oh my, Miss Elizabeth looks nice in her regency dress. I think the ribbons at the waist worked out well, and the little buttons on the back are a nice touch. Of course, the gloves are just adorable. I love them!

    1. Thank you for your sweet compliments on Elizabeth’s dress, Carolyn.. it’s always a treat to see Elizabeth in a Regency dress… I’m glad you enjoyed seeing it…
      Blessings, Jeanne
