Chrissa feels warm in her furry coat…

PLEASE NOTE: Bailey fell asleep and I took her sweet little dress off… hopefully she’ll wake up and not even remember she had it on… SO you are all FREE to bid on her dress set… and not feel bad for me having to get her undressed! :o) *wink* *wink* If you want to see her listing on Ebay, you can click the picture at the right side bar or you can click HERE.

I also added a link to the doll shop, where I purchased my Ruby Red Fashion Friends Sara doll, “Happily Ever After” in yesterday’s post.. if you missed it you can go back and see it… or along the right side of my post, there are the last 10 posts and if you click on them it will take you to that post… You can also see the new Siblies, the new 12″ sibling dolls for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends… they can be found under “Choose a subcategory” …

Here is a link to Happily Ever After too…

Happily Ever After Dolls

I was thinking as I was painting, what did Chrissa need to go with her jeans and shirt… and this is a possibility… it’s not set in stone, but she does look very pretty in these jewel tone colors and the bright pink “furry” coat looks fabulous on her… It’s a very lightweight fabric and is unlined to keep the bulkiness to a minimum…

I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to close it with buttons or if I want to leave it open and just use a tie or a belt…

I used a robe pattern and took off the shawl collar and angled the top corner down at a slant to keep the coat from being too close up around her neck… I could tack the lapels back if I wanted too… haven’t gotten that far yet….

I just used a pink sheer ribbon for one look and a turquoise piece of rawhide for another tie…

Well, today’s post is short and sweet… now you have the rest of your Saturday to do what you want…

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

I love Chrissa’s furry pink coat! Another couple of ideas for closing it: smallish shank buttons and button loops is one thought. Or, a larger hook and eye (or two sets)–luxe (real) fur coats often have large hooks and eyes that fasten the coat together so the fronts just meet, keeping the lines clean so the fur is shown to advantage. The hook portion would be completely hidden, and the eye (use the one with a more U shape rather than the straight one) sticks out just a little bit. You might have to play with a bit to figure the placement for the eye.

If there’s some overlap, you could use one of the above closures but position it so the coat overlaps a bit. Hope that helps.

  2. That’s the solution to the closure, Jeanne, the invisible hook and eye, credit Charlotte. A belt takes away the furry effect. I didn’t know what you’d do to make the jeans special but you’ve done it with style! No fringed faux leather purse or backpack with this beauty. Maybe a small, wallet-size purse with a narrow strap that’s just big enough to hold a cellphone 📱 too. This girl is very “today.” This has turned into a real winner!

Still awaiting the arrival of Sara. I did receive Molly’s wooden table and chairs which, like the upright pianos, are just the right size for RRFF dolls like my Bella doll.

    1. Susette, I would love to see a picture of the wooden table and chairs because I have a set, but have never been sure it is actually Molly’s or a repro. Good to know they fit the FF’s. 🙂

      1. I’ll send a picture of it to Jeanne. It’s the real thing. Thanks for your location. Lots of rain for you.

Two things: 1–One way to “make the jeans special” would be to add some fusible rhinestone or rhinestud (metal studs) trim near the hem. Sue’s Sparklers (http://www.suessparklers.com –no affiliation except knowing her and buying stuff from her over the years at Expo–a good gal to deal with!) has lots of things, including very small “accent” pieces (ladybugs, stars, etc.) and individual stones/studs that can be fused wherever, one at a time. Her instructions are good (and come with each purchase), and they are super easy to do. I have several t-shirts on which I’ve fused some of the larger appliques. (My favorite one said “Fabric Junky”–the shirt wore out before the applique did, so I bought another one!)

2–As I recall, there have been two different table sets for Molly. The first set looked like the 1940s metal-framed chairs (red back/seat) and table (red top), and the other was a wooden set. I sometimes wish I’d gotten that first set, it was so realistic, and so typical of the era!!

  3. She wears jewel tones so well. Hoodies seem to be all the thing. Even a hoodie vest. No belt for my vote.

  4. The jacket is beautiful, love the fabric and the color on her. I vote for not belt or ribbon around the waist. Especially the ribbon as it is too thin and gives the appearance of cutting into her waist.

  5. Teddy bear coats are huge right now! The hook and eye closure would be perfect. Of course I love the PINK of it all! 💗💕💖💞💝

  6. I can’t see the jacket worn with the jeans and a flowered summer top. I kind of like the organdy ribbon belt with it, but only if the jacket is worn as part of another outfit such as a fancy party dress in maybe black/white. I know jeans go with everything, but in this case not. The burgundy boots would also have to go. Now, if it were a hoody as Dorothy mentioned, it would be cute with leggings or stretchy tight pants in black and maybe a black top too. A simple necklace and flats would be cute too for a dressier look. For another look, black boots with the black pants and black turtleneck would be nice for a snowy outdoor look for the hoody or the jacket with a snuggly matching cap.
Found a great old photo yesterday while looking through family history boxes. Other person’s great great grandfather driving a wagon with draft horses. Pretty neat.
Have a wonderful weekend playing with Sara.

  7. I happen to like the look of the coat as is, no buttons or belt. Just a peek of the flowered blouse underneath.
As always, I’m anxious to see the final decision!

  8. Chrissa does shine in jewel tones. The jacket looks cute, very much like boucle sweaters I see, warm and comfy. I love Charlotte’s idea an of invisible hook and eye closure. I have a gray holiday sweater with sequins over a shell that closes that way. I wanted to make this comment about the reason I think some thought this “wasn’t spectacular” was that it isn’t your usual style, but it’s a new year and you’re trying something different Maybe if this had come before Addy’s gorgeous, elegant dress and Bailey sweet and girly outfit it might have bee viewed differently. Sure, I have favorites, but I enjoy seeing everything you make just as I like seeing the new AG things that come out even though it hasn’t called to me since Caroline archived. All of our collections are different. I’m sure what I felt were “must-haves” of the PC/AG items would not be for others. Some people dress all their dolls modern and some can have multiple dolls, but only choose one historical era. With my fewer dolls and multiple eras of enjoyment I get around it by having a couple time travel. Obviously Chrissa has now time traveled from a suffragette (1920) to 2021. My, for being 101 she looks wonderful! LOL
I do agree that I like happy, smiling dolls like PC/AG and your Sara, not ones that pout or look unhappy.
Speaking of Sara, I looked on the website and the Sara-Holiday Doll is lovely. I love the contrast of her light eyes and dark hair plus no bangs.

  9. Actually I like the jacket just open. I like casual. But then there’s the fact that I don’t use anything around my waist these days, so this might just be personal. The fabric is great.
Chrissa is a beautiful doll and I love the blouse and the fabric. It’s so her. And I like the jeans with the modifications.

A few comments from yesterday. I love Claudia’s quilt. My grandson would really enjoy having one like that, as would my granddaughter, but hers would have to be pink or purple. I’m not sure she knows there are any other colors.

I sure would not use LD patterns for FF unless you want to do a lot of adjusting. But Pixie Faire has a section of patterns for FF. I used The Versatility Dress by Forever 18 Inches last year for Sara’s Easter dress. I used the view that Sara is wearing with the lovely full skirt and tie belt. I kept Sara and her new dress sitting on my coffee table for days so I could look at the dress. It makes up beautifully and lends itself to a lot of fabrics and patterns. And several people mentioned the shoe size before I could but I will say that of all my dolls they are the only ones that wear the 58 mm. Wellies, Paola Reina, H4H and Corolle Les Cheries all take 54 mm, and, except for 18″ dolls, all the rest are down from there. I tried to use shoes from other dolls for the FF but they don’t fit so if I want something other than what comes with them, I buy them. Not a whole lot of choices though.

Jeanne, I think you will love sewing for the FF dolls. No matter what you make them they always pull it off nicely. Right now Sara and Bella are wearing Sew Dolled Up 81’s Sassy Suspender Rompers. There is also a jumper dress in that pattern. I love it because it’s all one piece but looks like two pieces. Trying to stuff a blouse under some doll jumpers can be tough sometimes. This pattern is very simple but looks like it’s not. I’ve used two different fabric combinations, one casual and one dressier and both worked great. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Bella, Sara and Stella are anxiously awaiting the debut of the I Dream of Jeanne Marie Fashion Friends collection.

Now for an update on David’s surgery yesterday. He came through with flying colors. His surgical team was indeed the “dream team”. I met most of them. He did have a triple bypass. The team kept me informed by text all through the surgery informing me what they were doing and that he was doing well. Every couple hours someone came out and talked to me. It helped to make the time go faster for sure. Once he was in ICU I could visit him for 15 minutes before leaving the hospital but will not be able to see him again till he is discharged due to the curse of COVID. But they are allowing one family member to be in the hospital during surgery and to see the patient when it’s over so that is good. I thought once he was in a regular room I might be able to visit but I can’t. He will be in ICU two or three days and then a room for two or three days. Actually it’s a total of five days but how many days each place depends on how he is doing. I spoke to him last evening after they took out the breathing tube and he sounded really strong and in high spirits. He even told me he wasn’t up to chasing the nurses just yet. I told him when he reached that point he needed to get himself home. One of his nurses is from Sealy and lives just a short distance from us. Small world. Having had to get up at 4 a.m. yesterday to be at the hospital by 6 a.m. and not getting home until 4:30 p.m. not to mention an emotional day, I dozed most of the evening, slept soundly all night and got up at 8 a.m. and fell asleep in my recliner through two TV shows letting my coffee get cold, and yet I still feel wiped out. But we’re both glad it’s over and once he’s recovered from this, we can go on to knee surgery and get him totally back on his feet again. I wouldn’t mind getting older at all if we didn’t do so much wearing out along the way.

Dear Barbara, thanks for sharing this good news. We are hoping for a speedy recovery.

I am glad you were able to get some rest.

    2. This is wonderful news! So glad the surgery is over and now in recovery mode. So wish you were able to visit, but until then, the phone will have to do. And please take care of yourself. That tiredness is nature’s way of helping you heal too. Will be thinking of you and husband and hoping he comes home very soon.

    3. Charlotte Trayer

Thank you for the update, Barbara; I’m glad David is doing so well. I echo others’ pleas to take care of yourself now, getting adequate rest and good nutrition.

My late mother-in-law had a triple bypass when she was about 80 (I don’t recall the exact year/her age), and she did very very well….and lived to be 93. She could have been a poster child for that surgery, as she followed her doctor’s instructions To. The. Letter. (including how much to walk each day during recovery time)! I remember once, about 3-4 months after her surgery, I took her in for a checkup, and she later told me about a lady she saw there who just wasn’t doing very well, not very strong, etc., and it had been almost a year since her surgery! Mom asked her, “Have you been walking every day like the doctor said to do?” and the lady said well, no, and Mom said, “Well, you have to DO it!! You have to walk every day, and build up your strength by increasing how much walking you do!” So that would be my advice to David: Follow the exercise/walking schedule the doctor sets for you!! Every day. To. The. Letter.!!

      Prayers continue.

Fantastic news. Any surgery is scary and it sounds like he came through this fine and now is on the mend. Hope that his recovery goes smoothly. So hard to have a family member in the hospital during COVID. I was in back in July and it was strange. No people walking through the hallways, no noise or chatter of talking and no visitors. Plus only one patient to a room. You must have been physically and emotionally exhausted. Good you just took the night and day to rest. Keeping both of you in my thoughts.

    5. Dear Barbara,
Wonderful news about David! I’m so glad to read you were allowed to see him after his surgery. Continued prayers for you and hubby.

      hugs
      Ingrid

  10. Barbara, I am so glad David came through surgery OK, I didn’t have anyone sick during lockdown but did have to have my cat put down, and the same rules applied, only one person with him. I let my granddaughtergo with him, I had sat with him for a couple of hours on my lap (he had had a stroke) and said my goodbyes but the children hadn’t had the chance to do that. Unfortunately the same rules didn’t apply to humans and no one could be with their loved ones even when they were dying (and even when it wasn’t covid). I couldn’t agree more about the wearing out part!
Jeanne, I love the pink jacket, I agree with Charlotte I don’t think a tie belt does anything for it. Personally I would go with no closure or the hook and eye that a few have mentioned. Love the colour It is so vibrant and looks wonderful against Chrissies dark hair and blue eyes. But then, like Julia, I am a sucker for pink.

  11. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I like the outfit. I like the jacket open as you have it in one of the photos.

Can you even believe that Valentine’s Day is in two week?

UFDC is having a special program online on Saturday, February 13. There will definitely be dolls for sale!

  12. Whatever made you think of the jacket it is brilliant. So cute, someone mentioned a sleeveless vest with a hood and that would also be a very current cute look and you could see more of her pretty blouse.
So glad your hubby came through his by pass Barbara. I know that tired to the bone feeling…comes from so much stress. While he is in the hospital gives you time to re coup. BMy hubby had a 4 way in 2001 and has done very well. He gets lots of exercise but not the structured every day kind. This is a good time of year….do his exercise inside and by the time it is nice outside he will be ready .

  13. Hi Jeanne,
A fuzzy coat! well what a neat idea. My daughter would have loved a hot pink fuzzy coat when she was young. Great addition to the ensemble!
Sara is a cutie, I bought her about a year ago or so. I found shoes to fit her at Cotton Tail Doll Designs ( https://cottontaildolldesigns.com/ ) the size they carry (Size: 58mm x 27mm) fits nicely with a sock or tights and at $10 a pair I bought several pair.

    hugs
    Ingrid
