The cat’s out of the bag… I mean Sara’s out of the box!!!

UPDATE: I totally forgot to add the link where I got my Sara doll from… I told them I would… Sara came from Happily Ever After Doll shop and here is the link to their Ruby Red Fashion Friends dolls… (They also carry LOTS of other dolls too!)

They are also going to carry the 12″ little sisters for the RRFF dolls… called Siblies… if you click on “Siblies” on this page, under “Choose a Category” you can see them… and shoes and clothing for the RRFF dolls.

Happily Ever After Dolls

I also spotted a new RRFF doll… Lila…she’s pre-order and will ship in a little while…

I guess many of you already know this, but I DID get a Ruby Red Fashion Friends doll…Sara. She came about 10 days ago but I was making myself finish a certain section of my kitchen cabinets before I opened her. Oh… I had already gotten her out of the box… she was just still in her container box. I could see her but just not touch her…It was hard… to see her and want to pose her, but I didn’t… until tonight… we had company come in from Tennessee… my hubby’s niece and her hubby. We went out to dinner at a new restaurant that opened up their inside dining…YAY… and then we came back to our house and talked till after 11:00p.m. It was too late to start anything new or crochet a hat for Chrissa or make a vest or a purse or a belt… SO… I opened my box! Aren’t you glad I had company? Me too!

All this jeans talk the last few days got me revved up… and when Claudine showed me this quilt she has made from denim… well, I just HAD to open Sara’s box and take a look at “her” denim jeans…look at this…

I love all the pockets on the quilt…isn’t it fun? She said this was the third one she has made…

Now back to MY new jeans girl… This is how she comes in her box… if you are careful, you can turn it into a bed if you like…

AHHHH… out of that box, finally!!!

Isn’t she sweet?

She has a braid that wraps around the back of her head. Her hair is like silk and wonderful to touch… She is 14″ tall and bends at her elbows and knees and her head moves around very nicely…

This is how she looks next to Chrissa… who is 18″ tall…

I like her jeans and her high topped tennis shoes… they are incredible…her toes have a split in them so she “could” wear flip flops if she had some… or if “someone” would make her a pair!! *wink* *wink*

I took her clothes off so you could see the joints in her elbows… and knees… and also to try on some shoes. I DO have quite a few pair that will work for her feet… another YAY!

I tried on the little floral romper that come on Tatum I showed the other day… with a little bit of tweaking, I could come up with a pretty cute pattern that would work for her…

Some people say in their Ebay listings that their clothes fit both the Fashion Friends dolls and the Little Darlings… I’m not so sure what I make for the Little Darlings would fit Sara, but I guess I’ll have to give it a try…

I haven’t even gotten my American Girl doll jeans pattern figured out completely and look at this.. I DO see me drafting another pattern for some jeans for Sara… :o) Just not today… :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Congrats on the arrival (and final opening and unveiling!) of Sara! I have both Hanna and Bella now (Hanna was my early birthday present to me from me), and I have started sewing a bit for them. Made a dress for Bella out of the Fancy Frocks Basic Dress 2, and found the skirt definitely needed lengthening (for the next version, I also lengthened the bodice a tiny bit; may work on that a bit more) and the short sleeves, although “okay”, would be better a bit longer. Long sleeves definitely need a little more length.

However, the dress fit fine thru the shoulders and upper chest (where the pattern is most fitted–the skirt has ease built in). They do measure differently, though, so I would say that Some things they could swap, but not all! I’ll try to get some pictures once I have the nightgown (from the same pattern) finished.

I’m glad to hear your restaurants are starting to open up again; out here, we are going into phase 2 (restaurants, plus places like bowling alleys, gyms, etc. all with limited occupancy) as of Monday. Hallelujah!! Too late for my birthday (we got takeout tonight) but next week we will GO!! As Ron says, though, it won’t undo all the damage that has been done–in our state alone, since last March, over 5,000 restaurants have permanently closed. It’s sad….

Claudine’s jeans quilt is wonderful! So much fun to have the pockets included, and a good way to use up the “good” parts of worn-out jeans! Wouldn’t a little boy love a quilt like that? He could park his little cars in the pockets!

BTW, thanks for showing us the back of Sara’s hair. It’s really beautiful!

  2. Claudine’s quilt is one that so many people have material for!! Who doesn’t have jeans, new or falling aprt? I have a pair that, if it wasn’t for this pandemic, would absolutely be gone, but who sees them beside me and Michael? Of course, who is shopping for clothes now anyway, so I still have them. The pockets are a cute feature on Claudine’s quilt, and I guess it takes a mother of boys to mentione putting toy cars in them! Cute idea!

Well, I don’t know what you are trying to do to me, Jeanne, but that Sarah is just darling! I’ve always preferred smiling dolls, instead of the pouty ones, and her smile is worth a million dollars! Her hair is perfect and she looks so lifelike with her poses. Oh dear, why am I hesitating? I do understand the RRFF are getting more and more popular, so there will be more seamstresses making clothes for them, and hopefully soon! I know they do have their own line of clothes, but at $50.00 for just one, it leaves me out! My problem is that I have so many clothes already for the dolls I have, poor Sara would be very left out with hardly anything to wear!

Congratulations on your new girl, and happy sewing in the days ahead for her! I know you will knock it out of the box!

Ya got me! I have one brother, one son, four nephews, four grandsons…and ONE granddaughter!! (And one husband who is 88–going on 8 sometimes, I think! LOL)

  3. Sara is a beauty and looks looks she’s going to be a nice size to sew for. It’s great that her box will double as a bed. Good luck on trying to make an outfit that will fit a LD and a FF. My guess is that people who think their outfits will fit both don’t have a FF. The proportions look similar, but the sizes aren’t.

You need a source for trendy clothes inspiration. Fashionista https://fashionista.com/ has a newsletter. I’ll bet some of your readers have some good ideas. I checked Seventeen online and didn’t think it looked helpful enough. Sara deserves the best.

  4. Love that quilt and it would be great for a boys room. I have 3 grandson but there taste in room decor is very different. I never wore jeans so I have no supply but there are always tons of them at our thrift shops.

Congrats to your newest family member. She is so sweet and that smile. Love her hair color and it looks like silk. I’ve had one of the dolls in my cart for months now and just put the boy from the Siblings line. I’ve heard that mentioned a great deal about not having a big choice in patterns or clothing that is not from their website. Hopefully in the coming months their will be more sewist offering them.

  5. A question about Sara, Jeanne. Whose shoes fit her? That looks like a LD shoe on her, but is it? Also does she come with fingernail polish and toenail polish already on her?

    1. I looked up the shoe size of the LD’s. They wear 50mmX25mm. The Fashion friends wear 58mm to 60mm so I would say that the LD’s can wear the boots and maybe some shoes with a thick sock. But, the FF girls feet are larger. Hope this helps.

  6. Sara is so cute. She’s the one that I would love to get when I get the chance. Congrats on getting her!

  7. How nice to have your husband’s niece visit. Such a fun quilt. I think it would be very sweet in a girl’s room as well as that of a boy. Or draped over the back of a couch as a decorator touch. 🙂
Looks like your Sara has no dye transfer. I believe it may have come from the black tights some wear, but I’m no expert. For anyone interested, the dolls wear 58mm-60mm shoes, but those that are narrow work best. Just google 58mm shoes on Ebay or take a look at what is left at Monique.com. Also, the FF girls can wear shoes from Ruby Red Galleria. They have some cute ones. You might also look for shoes for Glitter Girls. They were dolls available at Target awhile back. Their clothes also fit. I’ve seen a lot of shoes for them on Ebay. I believe that LD shoes may fit, but perhaps Jeanne can check. I can’t get into the doll room right now to compare as other person has been rearranging his office and has boxes piled everywhere.
I really haven’t tried LD clothes on the FF girls yet. However, I do know that the FF body style appears to be very similar to that of the Kaye Wiggs 17″ girls. Except for the length which is rather short on the Wiggs girls.
The Siblies who look just like the RRFF girls/boys are very tempting. Will be perfect little sisters/brothers for the Fashion Friends and also friends for the LD’s. I’m looking. 🙂
I would love to have Jeanne’s future pattern for the floral romper. It would be so cute for the FF girls. 🙂

  8. Who ever said “we expect spectacular” expressed what I meant by, “it doesn’t look like an Idreamofjeannemarie!” I think I could look at a bunch of unlabeled doll outfits and pick out one of yours. They have that extra glow of specialness.

Fashion friends have very cute faces, especially because they smile. I do not like pouty dolls either.

  9. What a pretty new doll, Jeanne. I like her sweet smiling face too. I agree with a few ladies, I don’t care for the pouty faces as much.
Her hair is a beautiful strawberry blond and so shiny. It will be fun to see what outfits you make for her and how you make a bed out of the box she came in.

I forgot to mention yesterday how pretty and tranquil your outdoor pictures of the fallen snow in your yard was. I enjoyed seeing that.

  10. Claudine’s quilt is lovely. I can see making one as a picnic quilt as well.
Sara is a real beauty. I figured it was only a matter of time before you succumbed to one and it didn’t take you long at all. LOL So another dolly added to the doll shelf. You have such a wonderful range of dolls and sizes you can sew for now.
It will be fun to see what you make for Sara. I think she could be old-fashioned as well as modern.

  11. I love Sara, I would love to own one. I like dolls that look happy, not pouty (or sulky like Nyssa).
Jeanne, your niece’s quilt is great. I have a huge collection of jeans that I have picked up places, I have contemplated a jeans quilt but I am not sure anyone in the family would want one. I use them mostly for making bags. Hardly ever wear them myself, I do own one pair but they don’t fit at the moment, at least not comfortably so they are just hanging there making me feel guilty! Actually I find them not warm enough in the winter and too warm in the summer. There is a free clothing ‘sale’ today at the community centre so I will go and see what they have that I can use. I do have a few skirts that I have picked up (or Sam has for me) and wear a lot and once I picked up three (quilting) cotton dresses with wide skirts. they were very well made and a great style but the fabric design was so not suitable for clothing! One was a New Zealand fabric with Pohutakawa all over it and one was a sort of travel design but with large birds on it, it just screamed cushions or centre panel for a quilt, the third wasn’t quite so bad a pretty floral with a green background but not something I would use for an adults dress. I unpicked them and washed and ironed them and have used them a lot in quilts and cushions. There is still a little left but not much.
Charlotte it is so sad that so many restaurants have closed. Obviously some have closed here but not too many. Mostly it was businesses that were already on the edge and would probably have closed within the year anyway. The govt provided a wage subsidy for businesses for during the lockdown plus loans if they needed them so they were able to continue to pay wages and banks gave a 6 month mortgage ‘holiday’ and added that to the total loan. A lot of landlords were very accommodating too, though not all. There is also a package for people who rely on mainly overseas tourists. Queenstown, our biggest tourist spot, was exceptionally busy through most of January, most have gone back to work, so
now there is almost no one there. I think there will be a boost this weekend and next as it is Auckland Anniversary weekend so a long weekend for them and Waitangi Day next week (celebrating the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi with Maori in 1850) is also a long weekend for all of us. Economically we haven’t done too badly and are probably in a good position to recover quickly once this is over (if it ever is). Aucklanders in particular have been on tenterhooks the last week after we had the community cases confirmed but thankfully no one else caught it so they have been given the all clear to go on holiday. I think we were all worried that it was going to put us into lockdown again! One of the workers at a quarantine facility had been communicating with someone in isolation, went out and bought wine for them and spent about 20 mins in the room when she delivered it so she no longer has a job. Hopefully she hasn’t caught it.

  12. Sara is a sweetie! I have Bella and she can wear some of the dresses I have received in the Little Darling swaps. She is a smiley one too. My favorite Little darling is all three molds but I do admit the smiley one is the one I grab to try on anything new.
The Jean quilt is quite the accomplishment….and to think she has made3! It would be awesome for picnics and a ball game…
Glad the cupboards are coming along….Can’t wait for pictures!
My kitchen has white cabinets too but the 75 year old metal ones. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. The shelves are grates so you can see thru them and move them. Any fingerprint comes off with a paper towel and windex. You will love the white!

  13. I love the Sara doll! She looks a little like one of my granddaughters, and I would like to buy her.

Dear Jeanne, what a cutie! You probably know that the newest sculpts were created by Dianna Effner. They resemble the Little Darling Sculpt 3.

It’s always fun to open a new doll box!
