Bailey, a Meadow’s Dumpling doll, is up next…

I hope you know by now when I can’t get to your comments, it’s because my day was too filled with things that had to be taken care of…

I DO want to congratulate Barbara on her new grand son… I hope he’s JUST PERFECT! :o)

Now, it’s Bailey’s turn… Bailey is an 11″ doll, created by Miroslava, who lives in Sweden. She has the doll line, My Meadows or Meadow Dolls… and Bailey is one of her “kids.” The tiny little 6″ dolls, like my Navi, are called Twinkles… Bailey is her 11″ doll and she is called a Dumpling… Poppy, who just left my house yesterday is 8″ and is called a Chibbi… just thought I’d give you a little background… if I hadn’t done so…

Bailey must have been watching Poppy try on wigs, because when I told her she was the next “top model” she said SHE wanted to try on wigs… “specifically the blonde wigs…” I had a few and she thought she liked this one…as I work more on her dress I’ll decide if I think it works for this dress…

We decided on my “all time favorite” pink floral fabric. I’ve had this forever and had scads and scads of it… but now I’m down to my last 6 or so inches of it… I’m really sad about this… It’s a wonderful fabric and I’ve used it many many times for many many doll dresses…

I do need to work on my lighting some… as these pictures don’t do this fabric justice… it’s beautiful… and a very pretty pink…

Bailey’s dress went together pretty easily… and it’s just a sleeveless version because… I decided to make her a felt jacket… Bailey must have been spying on Poppy about that part too! :o) The dress isn’t hemmed yet, as I guess you can see…

I didn’t have a jacket pattern for Bailey, (that I could find, or remember) so I had to draft one… that’s what this beige one is… a trial run on how it fit her…

I did make my real pattern a bit longer in the sleeves and just a bit wider in the sleeves so it slipped on a little easier. I wrote Bailey on the sleeve so I can keep track of the ones I have made jackets for… Then if I ever want to change it, I can see how this fits a doll and make any changes necessary…

This is the pretty rosy wool felt her jacket will be made from…

I hope you’ll check back on Monday to see what’s become of this new dress set… Actually it will be dress #2… CAN SHE MAKE 3 BY THE END OF JANUARY??? Only time will tell… :o)

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

First of all, congratulations, Barbara, on your new grandson! What an exciting day you had!! Have they chosen a name for him yet? I trust the body-temperature regulating will kick in soon so they can get home from the hospital and you can give him a snuggle!

Bailey is so cute in that wig, Jeanne; the braids suit her, I think, and she does look like a little Swede! I think my hair was almost that pale when I was little–and I’m pure Swedish! Now I’m almost 75, and my hair is still blonde, but a much darker blonde–it started darkening when I was in my 30s. I’m still waiting for my first gray hair–no kidding! Good genes, I guess!!

Yes, I do remember that fabric; isn’t it funny how sometimes we find a fabric that is just so perfect in every way, we wish it would last forever!! The rose pink jacket will be lovely with it.

Time for me to head off to bed–it’s 3 a.m. here! See you tomorrow.

    1. Well, Charlotte, you got the lucky Swedish genes! I’m the same age and our family gets their first white hairs in the 20’s! By 50 my head was well on it’s way to white! I’m all the way there now! I thought my mother and aunts look good, so never colored it. (Besides being lazy!)
Barbara, enjoy the snuggles with the new grandson! I miss the babies!
Jeanne, always fun to watch a new dress come together, but Addy’s is going to be hard to beat! Wish I knew where Poppy was headed here in MN. What a fun adventures she has. We’re suppose to get snow this afternoon.

  2. Ha, ha, Charlotte, time for bed at 3 a.m.? For me, that’s time to get up! What in the world do you do so late/early?

Bailey looks so cute in her new wig, but I must say she is a high maintence girl, with those fake eyelashes and platinium blonde hair!! Her little face looks like sunshine! That is the perfect little outfit for her and the pink jacket is just darling! It could be for Valentine’s Day (who says it has to be red?), or even a pretty Easter outfit too! Is there enough material to make a little muffin hat?

Congrats to Barbara on her little grandson, so fun to have a new baby to cuddle, ooh and ahh over! Just the thing to make next week a bit brighter for you and David!

Linda, I’ve always been a night owl. Just like my dad was (only worse, probably!). Mostly at night I’m emailing friends (there are at least 5 I email regularly) and keeping up with my lists, and then, when that’s all done, I play a game or two, maybe do a jigsaw puzzle on line.

Before I had a computer, I sewed late into the night, quite often. The house was quiet (hubby is a morning person) and I could sew without interruptions. Or I’d read.

  3. Yes, congratulations, Barbara, on your new grandson, and congratulations to his parents as well. One of my nephews and his wife took pictures of their daughter in the same chair every day for the first year, and then gave each of us a book of photos so we could watch her grow and her personality develop. Someone gave them blocks with numbers on them so each picture shows her age.

That’s a lovely fabric — it looks soft and gathers beautifully. Have you ever considered embroidering the doll’s name on the sleeve — you’d have to make duplicate jackets, but the trim could be fairly simple.

We should have a nice weekend here followed by snow — we need the snow for water next summer and to help prevent huge summer fires, so no complaints.

A friend lives in a large retirement home — yesterday someone from Walgreens came and vaccinated them all, going from room to room. Lovely idea. My family is on lists for vaccinations. You are notified a few days ahead of time so you can change your schedule. Some people are reporting sore arms – in one case, a very sore arm, and in many cases, no reaction. I’m collecting and sharing experiences because it’s nice to know what s normal. Some doctors recommending taking Tylenol in advance.

    1. Hi Marilyn. We’re on tap to get the vaccine on Monday. Have to drive south to the next Kaiser location as appointments here were booked, so I’ll let you know Tuesday about side effects and vaccine type. We won’t know until we get there whether it will be Pfizer or Moderna. According to many here, the first shot reaction is mainly just a sore arm. However, the second one is a different story. Lots of side effects on that one, but I’m not going to let it bother me. 🙂

      1. A friend got a notice after signing up several weeks ago to respond within an hour to an appointment availability at 1:30 at Disneyland. The wait out in the rain is about 50 minutes, 4-5 minutes in the tent, then 15 minutes wait for monitoring but the tent won’t hold everyone, so out in the rain, temperature 50 degrees. I’ll wait until my regular clinic gets doses! We do need the rain.

        1. Well, I guess that is one way to visit Disneyland even though just the parking lot. 🙂 Fortunately, we have an appointment, but we’ll see how that goes on Monday. Some people we know, didn’t want to wait online for so long to get an appt. They are going to wait until it is easier for a vaccination. I think your idea of waiting for the clinic is a good one.

  4. Congratulations Barbara on your new grandson. Hoping he gets to come home soon. Always nice to have a new baby in the family.

Bailey looks sweet in this fabric you decided on. I can’t fathom sewing on such a tiny dress. I’m on the fence with the color of the wig. I love the wig but not sure it looks great with her skin coloring. I’ve done the same thing with fabric…hoarded it because I didn’t want to run out.

Marilyn I hope you don’t get any side effects from the vaccine. I have been advised not to get it due to allergies of medications. I am allergic or get a horrid reaction to most drugs. Doctors hate me. lol. Tylenol is a good idea and my friend was told to take Benadryl thirty minutes before just to easy and side effect you might have.

    1. Charlotte Trayer

Sandra, I am actually Glad to hear you say that (about allergies to meds)! I am in the same boat–I’m horribly allergic to sulfa and the ‘cillins, and twice (once was this summer!!) had HUGE hives without ever knowing what caused them! This last time was the most uncomfortable I have ever been with hives. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, it was so awful!! Plus I’m pan-hypopituitary, which means none of my glands (including adrenal) work properly.

So, although I’m truly sorry you have such bad reactions to things, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one, and what you’ve been advised because of it!!

      1. I hadn’t heard that allergy to sulfa is a contraindication. I’ll look into it. Thanks for sharing that. I had a reaction with a rash as a child.

      2. Sulfa and almost all antibiotics I can tolerate. They will land me in the ER on oxygen as I can’t breath. Also almost died from and ended up paralyzed for months due to a super rare reaction to Antipsychotic & Antidepressant. I was being treated for nerve damaged caused by Syringomyelia and often those two categories of drugs are used to treat other things in addition to depression, etc. I also can’t tolerate Yogurt it closes my throat and causes hives. You are not alone in this and depending how bad the reaction is it is very scary. I’ve landed in the ER more times than I can count.

  5. I don’t recall ever seeing this fabric before. What a great choice for this little cutie. Congratulations to Barbara’s family on the new baby.

Have you used the lights that came with the light box you have. It might help to bounce the light off the sides of the box instead of training them directly on the doll. I think they have tripods so no need to clamp them to a table. Although I think your photography is just fine.

  6. Lucky Bailey on being the recipient of the last of the lovely dress fabric. The pink felt goes so nicely with it too. I’m not a fan of the pale blond wig with Bailey’s skin tone and heavy lashes. Kind of washes her out. I wonder how she would look with a darker blond wig more the color of her eyebrows? And I can’t remember, have you tried blue eyes on Bailey? Just a thought. Although changing those eyes is not so easy for me. 🙂
I love your idea of pattern making for the jacket. The felt is just the right weight for a pattern as well as being the same as that on which you will make the final rendition. Fun idea.
I need to stay out of that place, Joann’s, but managed to go there anyway yesterday. 🙂 Picked up the last of the bolt of my favorite white lining, some Mickey/Minnie St. Patrick’s Day cute fabric, and a couple of fat quarters of small cherries on aqua. Love that. And then because they only had one cutter and my wait number was not coming up for awhile, I cruised around and spotted the CA fabric I wanted awhile back but was not in stock. It has tiny grizzly bears and redwood trees on it. Fortunately for me, my number was called before I found something else. 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  7. Congratulations Barbara. Now that the baby is here, all of you can enjoy his little precious self!

Jeanne, this material is luscious. Pretty and pink. The jacket is the perfect pink too. That’s a good idea labeling the jackets for different dolls but then, you are way of doing things like that since you’ve sewn for years.

I agree with Joy, Bailey looks a little washed out with the lighter wig. She’s still cute but the darker or true blond might be cuter. Her cute little face looks so mischievous. She’s adorable.

  8. Does Bailey have the protrusions on her head to hold on a wig? I’m going to start asking that about any doll that can change wigs.

How does everyone know about the baby? Congratulations, Barbara!

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Julia, Barbara posted information yesterday about her new grandchild.

Do you change your doll wigs often? I tend to find one that works and let it stay. Most of my dolls have rooted hair so wigs are not an issue. Thanks goodness for that because I am not very good with fixing doll hair.

  9. Congratulations Barbara! What a delightful start to your new year. I hope you get to cuddle the bundle of joy soon.

Ahem, Bailey was just the lucky girl to get a Christmas dress (just look across at the sidebar photo almost face to face even with her now) and now she’s already up again? You seem to be showing favoritism and don’t think a wig switch fools us. I’m just kidding with you, Jeanne, but I couldn’t resist. Seriously, Bailey has an impish little grin and I can see wanting to make her lots of pretty things.
That fabric is just gorgeous. I have to go and look through the big fabric box because I think I may have that exact fabric or something awfully similar.
I agree with Joy as well, blue eyes and a more true blond wig might be prettier.

Yes,I do think you can make three dresses by the end of January! I’m cheering you on.

  10. Nothing like a new baby…I remember a lady at church came up to us and asked if she could “smell” our first little baby. I kind of knew her so said “Yes” thinking she was sort of odd. She just loved holding and smelling that newborn. It was a few weeks after that as a new Mom I knew what she meant. Nothing like picking up a new little one and cuddling them to enjoy that new baby smell😍
Thanks for your info on the Meadow dolls. I have a Gigi on order and I think she is that size. I need a Meadow 101 class. Not too familiar with all the details…changing eyes? Painting faces? I think I ordered mine already painted.🤗

    1. Your comment brought back a memory of my daughter I had forgotten. When she was about two we were at Red Lobster waiting for a table. Another family waiting also had a very new baby. Someone made a comment about the baby smelling new. My daughter went over and took a sniff. It was too cute.

    2. Kathie, if you ordered your Giggi with full face up, she will be ready to go except, you will have to install her eyes. They will come with her in a little bag, but you will need some Mac’s Silicone ear plugs to use to put in the eyes. Check her box carefully as the eyes are sometimes just loose in the bag in there. The eyes are tiny, but fit nicely in the holes, but you have to open up her head before installing. It is easy. And you will need a wig her size. Not sure if your girl is a Twinkle or Dumpling? If you are unsure of the wig size, you can go to the Meadow Dolls facebook group and look up measurements under files at the top. I’m excited as a chocolate Aya (same size as the Mae’s) should be winging her way here from Sweden very soon. 🙂

  11. Congratulations on the new grandson, Barbara. Did baby arrive on your daughter-in-law’s birthday? Julia, Barbara posted an update on the post yesterday probably after you checked. I don’t think I will be getting any new grandchildren, my youngest is 41 and not interested, neither is his partner and the rest have completed their families, I wait for great grandchildren now, I have three plus one on the way.

Love the fabric on Bailey’s dress as well and the felt for the jacket is a lovely colour match. I also have fabric that I am an unhappy about when it is all gone, usually for quilts though. I am not sure I like the blonde wig on Bailey, preferred the darker one last month. Here you are almost completing two dresses for the month (three if you include Poppy’s) and I haven’t managed one. Or anything else. Except sorting! I’m going to make a real push this week to at least get my work room usable. At least now I can find anything I want for the dolls except shoe stuff, that still has to be sorted.

Joy, I try very hard not to buy anything I don’t actually need. It doesn’t always work though. It is especially hard when I go to Patchwork meetings as there is always a free table. It is almost like ‘if it’s fee it doesn’t count’ lol but I still have to find a home for it. There were some lovely bags of lace and lace fabrics on Thursday. I managed to walk away without picking them up but I bet I find later I think it would have been just what I needed to finish something!!!
Have a great weekend everyone, need to start getting ready for Church

Dear Jeanne, I love Bailey’s dress. The colors are so pretty.

My Meadows seems to be very popular with doll collectors. The dolls have such pleasant faces.

  13. Thanks to all my sofa sisters for your congratulations on the new addition to our family. He and mom are home now and doing great. Both siblings, especially my grandson, are over the moon today. My granddaughter, the princess, is no longer the “baby” so it probably took her a minute or two longer but she’ll be fine. The new munchkin’s name is Azure Owen. Owen being my maiden name. I was pleased.

Joy, your CA fabric sounds really cute. Your cutting wait time was just long enough to let you find some fabric you wanted and not long enough to do any serious damage. I have $150 of JoAnn gift cards that I’ve been keeping pending “needing” something. I just haven’t needed anything so I may have to resort to wants instead of needs. I can always do that.

I love when you make things for Bailey, especially now that I have Lolla. The fabric is beautiful and the rosy pink jacket is going to set off the dress fabric very nicely. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

    1. Love your grands name. My favorite color. 🙂 And our daughter used her maiden name (our last name) for the middle name of her daughter. I’d go crazy with those gift cards. Lucky you. 🙂
