Let’s see if we can find some more December Cheer!

PLEASE NOTE:
Noel’s time has come for her to give up the blue dress…that is, if someone buys it… If you’ve missed it, you can click on the picture of the blue and silver dress and it will take you straight to the listing on Ebay… OR you can click HERE. It is ending this evening.

Now, since I’m in trying like everyone else, to get 274 things done in each day, I have been blessed with more pictures from my many readers of this blog. Yesterday we saw some fun pictures and today you are in store for more. I’ll get back to sewing (actually I have been making some masks… for some friends) and some men wanted some “manly” designs… :o)

But today it’s all about girly things… and Susette is up first… She said she has collected these glass beauties for years at Home Goods… especially on weeks when it was payday! :o)

If you click on Susette’s pictures they will enlarge…

The first one up didn’t have a name… but I’d just call her gorgeous…

The second one is The Flapper and The Shopper…

The third one is dressed in a beautiful Ballgown…

Here is Miss Ballerina…

…And here is the tree… totally full of lots of girlie girl stuff…

I never thought I’d say a tree looks breakable, but this one does… Pretty, Susette…AND definitely girlie! :o)

This is a Christmas dress Susette made Riya, her granddaughter back in 2014. Riya described what she wanted to Susette and then she made it! Nice grandma, huh? It’s a green sparkly dress with short puffy sleeves with cuffs, a sash for the dropped waist and a handmade flower for decoration. AND…not only did Riya get a dress from Nana (I think is what Riya calls Susette), but Susette made her American Girl Grace doll a matching dress! Woohoo! Isn’t that the sweetest picture of Riya in her bedroom with her Christmas tree and reindeer?
Thanks Susette!

Now for some more girlie pictures… Kathie has a 1950’s bathroom in her house and it just so happens it’s pink… so what do you do with a pink tiled bathroom? But of course… you set up a pink Christmas tree in there!

…and you load it up with unglazed porcelain angels made by Margaret Furlong… Kathie said she was from Nebraska too and these sweet little angels were from the 80’s and 90’s. I think I have the one holding the Noel banner…my mom gave her to me.

Kathie said sometimes she leaves her tree up till Valentine’s Day and decorates it with hearts, but it’s just not the same as it being decorated at Christmas time.

Thanks Kathie! It’s like taking a Christmas tour of everyone’s houses…

Okay… that’s it for today… come back tomorrow for some more glimpses of how Christmas is celebrated in my readers homes! :o)

In the mean time, bake those cookies, clean those houses, wrap those gifts, plan those dinners, decorate those trees, etc… Happy Holiday’s and lots of December Cheer to ALL of you!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Today’s glimpse of Susette and Kathie’s homes are what I would call “delicious”, Jeanne! I really do appreciate alal the effort people put into their homes and aking them look so inviting and welcoming!

Susette outdoes herself on that beautiful tree! I remember going to Home Goods all the time and picking out cute little nick knacks now and then, but hers are just fabulous! I’m sure her tree took hours to decorate! I love to see all the sweet toys gathered around the tree! Is your Mary Hoyer doll there too, Susette?

A trree in the bathroom! Kathie, I did just that yesterday, but not with lights or as big as yours! What a beautiful collection of shea shell ornaments, and the perfect place to display them! Who knew we have so many great decorators in our group?? I can’t wait to see who gets the next “spotlight” tomorrow!!

Riya’s dress is beautiful! That flower is one of a kind! How did you manage to make that, Susette? And Grace’s little dressis darling. I’m guess Riya can’t wear her dress anymore, but Grace will always be able to fit in hers! That’s a future heirloom, for sure!

Gosh, Jeanne, ONLY 274 things a day?! Well, more power to you, girl; comes the day when you’ll be doing well to get FOUR things done each day…. It happens to us all–called Getting. Old.!!!

Well, what a fun fun post!! I am loving those girly trees!!

Susette, I think my favorite of the glass dolls is the shopper one, in black with a little wisp of veil on her hat. But my favorite dolly of all is the little doll named Riya, wearing the beautiful dress you made her!

Kathie, I love your vintage pink-tiled bathroom!! I don’t know, those old tiled bathrooms were usually so beautiful, *I* think, anyway. We stayed in a 1950s motel in Oregon one time that had a vintage tiled bathroom (green, as I recall), and there was even a little tiled niche to put your glass above the sink!!

I do love your pink tree, too–and the porcelain ornaments add just the right touch, I think.

I should have Jeanne send you my email address; after Christmas I need to “talk” to you about a doll repair or two. I don’t think we have any place at all in the Seattle area for doll repair any more. Closest one is in southern Oregon, I think, or maybe it’s central California.

    1. Thanks for not laughing at my pink tree…everyone was so polite. My boys just roll their eyesšŸ˜œ
Iā€™d be happy to help with a doll that needs a fix or two.šŸ˜‰

      1. Iā€™ll send before and after pictures of my Mary Hoyer doll as a sample of your fine work. You saved her life!ā¤ļø

    2. I have to remind myself often that there is a bit of a gap in Jeanne’s and my ages or I would really be bummed out. Something like ten years. I remember when my kids were babies and my mother would come to visit. It seemed to take her forever to get the kids dressed. I thought to myself that if I was that slow I’d never get out of the house and two kids to daycare in the morning. Glad I didn’t say it out loud. I would definitely feel the need to apologize these days. I used to take a day off from work and clean my house from top to bottom, curtains washed and rehung, etc., These days it takes me all day to just clean the bathroom.

  3. Thank y’all for the great photos! Love the glass ladies and the pink tree, I have some of those angels, too! The beautiful girl in her green dress is such a treat. When I saw the puffed sleeves I immediately thought of Ann of Green Gables and how she longed for puffed sleeves.
Yesterday and today are baking days. We have no money for gifts this year due to expensive home repairs so friends and family are getting cookies and my famous bourbon balls. Wishes for a merry Christmas to you all.

    1. Hi Sissy,
Don’t think cookies and bourbon balls won’t be thought of as wonderful gifts. My grandmother made ten varieties of German Christmas cookies and stollen and white fruitcake each year as gifts. She would start the day after Thanksgiving as there were nut to crack by hand, no prepackaged ones. They were eagerly anticipated each year by all the relatives. Tins of cookies were her signature gift. Luckily, I have all her recipes and can replicate them. Some years school was out early enough that I was there already to help with the final batch of something.

    2. I personally love handmade gifts and baked goods are the best. One year when our children were small my husband was doing a job grading for a building site. Since it was a several day job he left his equipment there at night. When he went back one day he could not find his bulldozer. Some kids had started it up and drove it full throttle into a nearby bayou. We found out who did it but the police refused to arrest them. Evidently they had influential parents. The bulldozer was unusable and we didn’t have the money to pay to have Case fix it so we took all of our receivables that were supposed to be for the holidays and fixed it as best we could to get it workable. That left no money for Christmas so we all made things for each other. It was the best Christmas ever.

  4. Where have I been? Must have been hiding under a rock as I’ve never seen these fabulous ornaments before. Susette’s tree with the “girls” and other amazing bobbles is a masterpiece. Of course, I had to spot the special little chair ornament and figure it might fit one of the Meadow Twinkles. Ha ha. Susette’s grand with the matching doll dress is a lovely classic. How wonderful to have that photo. Kathie’s pink bath brings back memories of our 50’s bath only our tile was gray with maroon. Really not to my taste at all. I always wished it was the pink or baby blue tile also available at the time. The pink tree is such a fun statement. I’ve never seen those Furlong ornaments either. Quite amazing and beautiful.
Didn’t accomplish anything much yesterday as we had to go for a long drive to burn off gas for the Toyota recall on the truck. But, it was fun to see all of the activity going on and displays.
Thanks Jeanne for sharing the fun photos.

    1. The house my parents bought in 1954 was a typical tract house of the 1950s. There were only two colors you could pick for the bathroom and kitchen. One was pink and the other was a hideous green, kind of a medium milky green. The pink was nice and our kitchen and bathroom were full of it. Most of my friends’ houses had the pink also but when I finally saw the green, I was glad my parents picked the pink. Surprisingly our house did not have the ceramic countertops. We actually had the early Formica. The kitchen had the chrome band at the edges. When I look back the kitchen and bathroom were pretty modern for the time. I would love to get inside one of those houses now and see what has changed. I’ve looked at the outside of the houses through Google and not much has changed there.

      1. Oh, the memories of old tile. My house growing up, built by my dad in 1949, had yellow and green tile in the kitchen with a green linoleum floor put in with edging by my grandfather. I didn’t mind the kitchen so much, but that gray and maroon always bothered me. Then when other person and I bought our house, in 1975, it came complete with yellow and that dreaded maroon tile in the kitchen. A sledge hammer was taken to it eventually. šŸ™‚ The bathroom was black tile with yellow trim. I didn’t mind that so much. šŸ™‚

  5. I AM HOME!
I have to unpack but that can wait.
All the Christmas cheer pictures are appreciated! Thanks everyone. Hubs put up lights outside and lights on the tree inside. Thatā€™s it for now.

  6. I have never seen some of these ornaments but Susette and Kathie have outdone themselves! Love the pink bathroom with the shell ornaments. So creative. At one time in my Barbie doll years I had a pink Christmas tree set up in my doll room.

Not only are Susetteā€™s ornaments really neat and interesting, but her collection of toys at the bottom of the tree add to the fun of the whole Christmas tree scene. The bears, dolls and Gingerbread house and other items are really creative.

I try to organize my day to make the most of it as we head towards Christmas. However, Jeanneā€™s schedule is really packed with things she has planned to do. And, not just for Christmas but most of the time! Wish I had her stamina. Jeanne you are amazing.

  7. And the fun continues. This is just delightful to tour others homes and see what they use for Christmas.
Add me to the list of being unfamiliar with these ornaments. Your tree is lovely, Susette with the little dolls all over it. I, too, like the shopper one, but my favorite is the green one with the ballerina. She looks like a wood fairy to me. The dolls and bears really make it look like a children’s tree, so creative. I think you also have teal and pink lights. reminds me of those old issues of Romantic Homes magazine.
Riya is the cutest thing and I’m sure she was delighted with the matching dresses
A bathroom tree, I love it. You can have Christmas near you even in the shower. The seashell like ornaments are lovely as are the real seashells at the bottom. My grandparent house had a pink and gray bathroom. the tile was gray and the fixtures were pink. i always loved it.

  8. Thank you for the nice comments ladiesšŸ„° Everyone had a sense of humor about my bathroom treeā˜ŗļø
Love seeing the trees and darling granddaughter.
Riya is such a pretty little girl and ahead band is so flattering with long hair. That dress is brilliant and to have a matching one for her doll is special. Hope her mom keeps it for her ā¤ļøSuzette, your tree is outstanding! How careful you must have to be to keep those girls from breaking! All the sparkling ornaments really add to the theme too. Where did you find your pink lights? Mine wouldnā€™t work this year so had to use white. The detail on your tree is awesome. I must have looked at it

  9. I’m covering two days with my comments. When I was ready to comment yesterday, I lost my internet again. We were watching TV and the cable went so I thought I’d come in to my computer and the internet was down too. With the previous owner we only lost both if there was a bad storm. I don’t know what’s with this bunch but I’m thinking of looking around to see what else is available. Not usually much here and what there is can be more expensive than what we have.

Bobby’s quilt is absolutely beautiful and the colors are gorgeous. Kathie’s tree was lovely and her Madam Alexander angel looked so pretty on the top of the tree. And her pink tree in the bathroom with the Margaret Furlong ornaments was so sweet. Susette’s tree with the glass beauties was very nice, and I love the setting for it.. She has quite the collection of those glass ladies. And the dress she made for her granddaughter was very nice. And one for Riya’s doll too. I used to do that for my daughter and her Cabbage Patch doll. I’d love to see a picture of Riya now that she’s a few years older. She was a beautiful little girl.

I’ve got my decorating all finished now and just need to finish adding a couple street lights to the village and then I will take some pictures. I really like my park better the way I have it set up this year. Hope it shows up well in pictures. Now I need to clean up the mess caused by the boxes I brought in from the garage. After I do that tomorrow I’m hoping to be able to return to my much neglected sewing room.

  10. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I loved the tours of Susette and Kathie’s Christmas houses. I never tire of looking at holiday home decorations.

I cannot believe that Christmas is next week! I feel like it kind of snuck up on me. I am giving gift cards this year. There aren’t any little children in the family who would want a package to open.

I am anticipating the magic of Christmas 2021. What a celebration we will have!

  11. Thank to each one of you for the kind comments about my tree and Riya. She has really grown and is eleven years old now. Kathieā€™s trees are very beautiful and creative. Yes to a tree in the bathroom! Hope lots of followers send in pictures.
