The rest of “School Girl Charm” for Nyssa…

I hope you like what I’m about to show you… I just LOVE cute dolls and I don’t think they get much cuter than how Nyssa looks today!

I made a few books for her… you know, so she’ll look more scholarly! :o)

Then I had some metal glasses fronts and added legs made from nails painted black and then sprayed with a clear sealer. Nyssa has big enough ears to hold them up. They just sit in her wig and stay in place…

Well, whether or not there is school in your area of the world, Nyssa is all set and ready for it to begin!

My plan is to get this listed on Ebay, but no promises…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Those glasses are just the right thing for Nyssa! I know, kids don’t always want to wear glasses, but she will be able to see so much better with them on! (I remember mom telling me that Her mother–my grandma–didn’t know the trees had tops and couldn’t see the blackboard in front of the classroom until her teacher realized she had vision problems and advised her parents to get her eyes checked! It was a whole new world for grandma, once she got her first pair.)

And I love her books, too. I loved the Nancy Drew books, and read many of them in upper elementary grades (maybe jr. high, don’t recall). I’m glad you included a Nancy Drew book for Nyssa! It’s what started me on my love for mysteries.

    1. Thanks Charlotte,
I thought the glasses would be perfect for Nyssa’s set. See better with them on? Hardly… they have no lenses… but that’s okay…it’s all just pretend! :o)
All young girls should read Nancy Drew stories!
      Thanks so much,
      blessings, Jeanne

  2. Nyssa looks just perfectly ready for her first day of school now, with those cute glasses, although she looks a bit reluctant! Her book is just the thing too, and I am sure the first day will go well for her! Everything works out that you have made for this outfit, and I am sure it will be a favorite for whoever is lucky enough to buy it!

    1. Hi Linda,
I’m glad you like her glasses… she does too… :o)
I just got it listed on Ebay… finally!
Now to see who might be next! :o)
      Thanks Linda,
      blessings, Jeanne

  3. I love the 5th photo down with Nyssa and the head tilt looking up out of the glasses. Very sweet. She reminds me in a way of our red head who wore glasses from first grade until 7th grade contacts. 🙂

    1. Hi Joy,
That picture is the one I used for my gallery photo on my Ebay listing. I wish I had made it wider, because it looks a bit on the skinny side, but maybe it will be okay.
I really should sew for her more… I’m never disappointed in the way she looks… I guess I need to put a clear “lid” on her box… so I’ll see her more often… :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. So it was books! Wonderful! Love the glasses. She looks so studious. She is definitely ready for the big first day. I have a lot of miniature books I bought, several classics, and then Pixie Faire came out with some to make. My dolly library is quite well stocked. Especially with Nancy Drew books. Got several of them.

I plan on doing some photo shoots once the grandkids get back to in-person school. We got word yesterday it will be delayed from 9/8 until 9/14. We’re told the school is not ready yet. We also got some additional information on the restrictions. The only thing that’s left to mandate is their need to wear hazmat suits. This is peculiar to the county they live in but it’s a huge county. My second cousin always posts pictures of her three girls on their first day of school each year with a sign with the grade and date. I noticed yesterday their pictures did not include shoes. They live in Maryland and I think they will stay virtual at least until January.

    1. HI Barbara,
I think books are fun to use as props and accessories for dolls… I’ve used them for years. All the talk about Nancy Drew books and there will be lots of ladies getting into their books and reading them again! :o)
Poor Barbara…she can’t sew because the school is keeping her from her sewing machine! I do hope things get resolved for your grandkids soon and things are back to normal.
I feel sorry for the little kids who really don’t understand what is going on.. they just want to play with their friends. :o(
      thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Glasses. I was trying to think of what you would be making as an accessory. Making the temples out of nail was very clever, you come up with pretty amazing things.
Nyssa looks perfect for the first day of school, even if she’s learning from her kitchen table.
Oh, I love that she has a Nancy Drew book. My school library had The Nancy drew books with the yellow matte covers and in third and fourth grade I read all of them. About six years ago, while I was trying to remember a title of one for some reason and I saw an auction for the first 39 books in the yellow matte covers and was able to win the auction. The seller frequented estate sales and that’s where he found them, some were even unread as the spine was increased. I gave them a quick glance to verify condition and had to put them in a temporary box. Now here’s the mystery… about three months later when I was taking them out to put in a permanent location, I opened “The Secret of the Old Clock” to read it again for fun and an old $100 dollar bill fell out of the pages. I literally gaped at it on the floor for a few seconds.

    1. I have several of the original Nancy Drew series and bought the whole “revised” (like the old ones better) series for my daughter. We have all the Hardy Boys also. But one of my favorite series was Trixie Belden. One year for Christmas my parents bought me several books and four Trixie Belden books were among them. I loved those books and read them over and over. I don’t know what happened to them. I guess they got handed down, wore out and got thrown away. A few years ago I thought of looking on e-bay and managed to find a complete set for a great price. Several of them I had never read.

I wish I still had my old Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden and Bobbsey Twins books! I think we got rid of them when we moved out here when I was in 9th grade. By then I’d moved on to other books. Lucky, all of you who still have theirs, or have managed to replace them!

    2. The Secret of the Old Clock was my first Nancy Drew mystery, and I still have it! Just be 68 years old, gosh! Antique book, for sure!

Wow, you are in the money, Laura!

    3. HI Laura,
Yep, glasses! All dressed up in her pretty dress and now schools are closed. Boo Hoo… She wanted so badly to wear her new dress so everyone could see it. Maybe it will still fit her “next year” when school will SURELY be in session.
WOW, Laura, that helped defray the cost of the books considerably! What a nice surprise! I bet that was your FAVORITE book in the set! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Well if those glasses aren’t the cutest! That is exactly the right look for her😉
Her big blue eyes looking through the frames are just right!
Your choice of books match the whole theme….another darling Jeanne ensemble!
My day is making high heels for my new Grace doll. Hope my patience will last long enough to make them🤪

    1. HI Kathie,
I’m glad you like Nyssa’s glasses too. I’m pretty smitten with her looks in them. They were the perfect style for back to school.
I hope your day of making shoes for Grace went okay… from one “cobbler” to another… it takes time and patience!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Kathie I look forward to seeing Grace’s shoes when they are finished
Jeanne, love the glasses and the books. Believe it or not I never read any Nancy Drew when I was a girl and I was (and still am) a big reader. I don’t remember my local or school libraries stocking them, I am sure I would have read them if they did.

    1. HI Anne,
Now that you know how popular the Nancy Drew books were, you’ll have to search for them and see if you can find them anywhere…
I’m glad you like Nyssa’s glasses and books… it was fun putting this set together.
      blessings, Jeanne

Anne, if you enjoy mysteries, I think you’ll enjoy the Nancy Drew books. If nothing else, perhaps you could download them onto an e-reader, like the Kindle Fire. I may do that myself, as it’s been Years since I last read one!
