Day Two of Elizabeth’s Regency Dress

I did a hard thing today! I saw a lady selling 2 American Girl dolls on Facebook Marketplace, McKenna and Kit. They were $60 apiece, which is a really good price, especially for McKenna.

I really wasn’t in the market for a new doll, but I’ve always heard people rave about how beautiful McKenna is, and since I’ve never seen her in person, I had to check her out.

I did a little research on comparing Elizabeth with McKenna..they are both the Josefina face mold and have the same blue eyes, but McKenna has feathered eyebrows, caramel colored hair that is straight, and a darker lip color.

Well, I got to the lady’s house and saw McKenna, and she was like new…I mean in perfect condition…her hair was absolutely gorgeous, silky, and looking like she had never been touched. The daughter was there and said she never played with the dolls…they just stood on a shelf.

I brought my own Elizabeth doll with me so I could see first hand just how much they looked alike. They were definitely similar but not necessarily “twinsies!” I debated and debated and finally told her as much as I would love to have McKenna, I thought they were just too similar…so I did that hard thing and passed on her. On the way home I was telling myself…”Only buy the dolls that steal your heart!” I was proud of myself… :o)

When I got home I put my $60 back in my drawer, dressed Elizabeth and said, “Let’s see what we can get done today!”

This is what happened in my sewing room today…

The gown is done (I think…) maybe…

Now to move onto the Spencer…

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

The gown is lovely, Jeanne! So elegant.

Can’t wait to see the jacket!

(Good for you, turning down McKenna. I’m sure it was difficult, though–she really is pretty.)

    1. Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you like Elizabeth’s dress so far. Wait till you see her Spencer. :o)

I hope she sells soon…I did look at her twice today…maybe I was just looking to see if she had sold… :o)

      Thanks Charlotte

  2. Once again, Jeanne, you come up with some of the most beautiful doll dresses I’ve seen. Elizabeth is stunning in this new gown. I’ll bet you’re just loving your “new” sewing room and the fun you’re having in it.

    Blessings.

    1. Elizabeth’s dress is beautiful. I love the choice of material and the three black buttons in either side of the bodice. Looking forward to seeing what else you put together to go with her dress.

Are you happy to be back sewing? Especially in a beautiful seeing room? Your spools of thread in your display case look so nice and professional. Easy access plus the thread is protected. I’m impressed with your assembling of the case for them. Great job. Very nice.

      1. Hi Paula,
Yes, I really am loving my new room. It seems less claustrophobic and much easier to get things done! I think the decluttering was probably one of the best things I did in here…
        Thanks Paula,
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Becky,
I AM loving my new room…it is just wonderful now..and I still have things to do…
      Thanks for your kind compliments.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Yikes, don’t think I could have had your willpower. I’ve always wanted McKenna and Kit. Don’t have either of those. 🙂 But, they do take up a lot of real estate.
Squeezed in a little time yesterday and worked on the pile of dolly shorts and that still unfinished kitty dress. Would be so nice to have projects completed before starting something else. Doesn’t seem to work that way around here.
Have to do some yard work today. It’s cool so that is good.

    1. Hi Joy,
It WAS hard to turn McKenna down…I even asked to see Kit, thinking maybe she was a better doll to buy, but nothing tugged at my heart strings…so I had to say no…

Starting something else before I finish what I’m working on at the moment is a bad habit of mine…a really bad habit. Maybe some day I’ll conquer it…
Hope you enjoyed some seeing time today…
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I share Joy’s thoughts about your willpower. I have a hard time turning down dollies needing a home. So I don’t go looking. Way too tempting.

The Regency dress is coming along nicely. I really do like that fabric. I always love watching the evolution of an outfit. At present I’m working on the cutest romper for FF Bella. I have the pattern for Wellies and I think 18″ too so there may be more to come. When I changed everyone out of their Easter finery I noticed that Chloe (my Les Cheries) and Cleo (my Paola Reina) did not have any summer clothes so they will be next on my sewing list.

How wonderful that Joy has some cool weather. We can’t even think about that here until maybe late October. I really need to tend to some weed issues, but five minutes outside and I’m ready to come back in.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Wow, 32 dolls? That must be a lot of fun. I love the original AG minis with the glass eyes. really wish I had been collecting at the time when I always saw them in the PC catalogs. You certainly have a great variety. I do like a number of other dolls I’ve seen, but I’m sticking with the PC/AGs because all the clothing and accessories can be shared. On the doll boards I have seen women use OG dolls as “extras”. When I first joined someone had re-wigged one as Scarlett O’Hara. They do have some lovely eye colors.

      1. The AG dolls are lovely especially the hair. I can only get OG dolls here and have bought a few, have 3 now. They tell me their names, like lots of little girls they don’t necessarily like the names they are given. I have Bella, Amy and Sammy (the last named after my daughter, Sam). My granddaughter has called her two Elizabeth and Abby. AG dolls occasionally appear on our auction site (Trademe) but cost $160NZ last one I saw. If I buy from US I have to pay around $50US for postage!
Love what you have made for Elizabeth looking forward to seeing her with her spencer.

        1. Hi Anne,
Did Jeanne have a chance to forward my message to you about the Famosa doll? I wasn’t sure you would look back at the prior day’s post and see it.
Did you get her? That is incredible for the postage. Do AGs never show up on the Australian eBay and could be shipped over for less?

        2. Hi Anne,
It’s too bad you can’t get ALL the dolls YOU love!!!
I’m glad you like the dress so far.
          Blessings, Jeanne

    2. Hi Barbara,
I know…isn’t it hard to pass up dolls? My problem is, I can’t even find time to sew for the dolls I do have, let alone getting more…

I’m glad you like following along with me as I make the doll outfits. I like having an audience to do that!! I love sharing with others what I do!!

I’m hoping you AND Joy found some sewing time!! I did!
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Hi Laura
I see dolls ALL the time that I just have to stop looking at… I’d have my sewing room filled up with dolls if I could…thank goodness I can’t.
I’m going to concentrate on the dolls I do have…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. AAAAND you’re back! To doll sewing. I can’t wait to see all the little extra details in the regency dress.

I have Elizabeth and McKenna. When they are twinning they are Bethany and Kennedy. I dress them in similar outfits. I really have no interest 2 of the same thing. Well, maybe shoes!😉

    1. Yes, Julia,
I’m back…my hubby was talking to Kristoffer on the phone and I guess he asked what I was doing, because I heard my hubby say, “oh she’s on a doll kick right now… Sewing up a storm!”

I was thinking of you when I was standing in that lady’s living room looking at McKenna and my Elizabeth…I remembered you had both…
      I’m a shoe lover too!!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. I always surprised by the dolls they little girls didn’t play with and had them just stand on the shelf. I don’t ever look at dolls unless, as in the past, I had a specific one in mind. then I was on eBay searching for my perfect NRFB beauty. I definitely agree with your statement of “only buy the dolls that steal your heart” That is exactly why I have only the ones I have currently. I waiting for another doll to steal my heart. The only possibility is Rebecca who I may consider to makeover with some customizing to be my mini-me 1980’s doll.

Elizabeth’s new dress with its dainty puffed sleeves, square neckline, and little black buttons is off to a beautiful start. I can’t wait to see the spencer.

    1. Hi Laura,
These dolls were definitely “not played with!”
They will sell because of their condition…

You’re going to love the Spencer..it’s really pretty…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Love the neckline and the puffy sleeves… such a trademark for that style. She is an unusually pretty AG. So was it quicker to put together this dress with everything rearranged?

    1. Hi Kathie,
It did seem like it was easier to find things in my organized sewing room. Maybe it was just easier to breath without all the clutter around me…
I’m glad you like the dress…
      Blessings, Jeanne
