A partial sneak preview of my NEW and IMPROVED sewing room…

I’ve worked like crazy the last few days to be able to show you these pictures. I haven’t seen this much FLOOR showing in weeks!!! I’m liking it too!!!

I had my hubby put my door back on the hinges. No, it hasn’t been painted yet, but I’m making a list of projects that can be completed in a few hours and it made the cut!!

I rearranged a few shelves on my oak bookcase so the containers fit better. When I sell Miss Saucy Walker and go through that box she’s laying on and go through those snap cases, things might change again.

A few ladies wondered who was laying next to the girls in the new stand I made…

…can you guess?

Why, it’s Ten Ping and Navi… my two tiniest girls!

My long dresser with all the drawers looks very bare right now. It’s been so cluttered, I’m enjoying the bare top but had to do a little “decorating” with a dolly prop. My hubby is going to put the little wood piece on the wall to hold my cutting board in place.

I had some blue spray paint left so I sprayed the brown centers of these baskets sitting on top of my fabric bookshelf. I need one more “something” up there to hide that “brown” wood door!! :o)

…brown…

…blue…

I cleaned off my white pieces of furniture except for a few things.

The bookshelves in the corner area are filled now…as neatly and orderly as I could.

I have my tulle for making slips on one shelf.

I ended up buying under-the-bed cubes to use for sorting my fabrics. I still need to go through them but for now, they are fairly easy to get to.

Nyssa and Hope, my Kaye Wiggs dolls, are in their box on the next shelf.

Velvet and dressier Christmas fabrics are in the tub with the red lid.

My books are on the top shelf on the other bookcase.

Patterns are in baskets and in notebooks.

The next shelf has some miscellaneous stuff that still needs to be gone through.

Pattern books are next and a bunch of doll magazines are below.

I brought in my ironing board and iron, getting ready for “you know what!!!”

I still have this section to work on…it shouldn’t take much time.

Look at this…I had to hem some pants for Rebecca, SO I had to get my machine plugged in and see if I remembered how to sew…

I found one pair of my reading glasses, my machine did its job and I DID REMEMBER how to sew!!!

I’ll hurry!!!

I stood back and took a (wavy) panoramic shot from my doorway and am amazed that this is MY sewing room! I never could have imagined it to be this pretty, this functional and TAKE THIS LONG TO COMPLETE! I still have to get my new sewing table made… It’s what started this whole renovation…it, and a crummy wall and pretty much rotting corner! A HUGE thank you to my hubby for all his patience and YOU all for hanging around to see it finished. There will be more pictures as I get things going.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, your sewing room looks just beautiful! So pretty, and nicely organized! (I figured Ten Ping was one of the dolls lying down on that shelf; couldn’t remember Navi’s name, but I knew you had one smaller than Ten Ping).)

Congrats on a lot of hard work. Now enjoy sewing again!!

  2. Jeanne, you can give yourself a nice, big pat on the back for getting your sewing room in such wonderful shape! You will be the envy of so many sewers if you aren’t already! I can’t believe the transformation that has taken place all because of a new sewing table!!

Can’t wait to see you sewing pretty doll clothes again!

  3. I think that you and your husband have done a wonderful job redoing your sewing room. I love the floor. The organization will pay off big time. The only thought I have for what it is worth, is…… would you consider painting “all” of the furniture white so that it all matches? In my humble opinion that would just make your room perfect and hopefully not take a whole lot of time. I have enjoyed the journey thru your blog and photos.

  4. I’m so liking the clutter free look. That lovely new floor shines. Now, if your ability to visualize would just morph over to me, I might be able to organize here too. Ha ha
We’ve been looking at new kitchen appliances our of necessity. What a nightmare. So much junk out there. Nothing seems to be well made like in the past. Has anyone bought anything lately? Any brand preference? LG has some nice things, but still looking for sizes etc. that will fit in our old kitchen. How does wood work as a kitchen floor? Anyone have that? Tile? Ideas?? Help. šŸ™‚

    1. Joy, we have a wood kitchen floor and it works out just fine! It has some kind of finish on it to repel water, so thatā€™s no problem. Of course your individual circumstance might be different. Itā€™s just the two of us, no dogs or cars, to scratch the floor, but we did have a cat previously.
I love my KitchenAid dishwasher and refrigerator. Our stove is a Kenmore, but older than the dishwasher and refrigerator. I would have loved a French door refrigerator, but have no space for one. They take up a lot of room! We have LG washer and dryer.

      1. Thank you Linda! I’ll add Kitchen Aid to the list. Some brands are hard to find to view in person. We have a French door refrigerator now. Some of them come pretty narrow and might fit. We have the freezer on the bottom which is very easy to find things as it has pull out shelves. The refrigerator is great, but the ice maker is not. At 10 years, it would cost almost as much as a new refrigerator to fix. Good to know on the LG washer/dryer too. Thanks.

    2. The only thing I’ve bought really recently is a new washer and dryer. They are Insignia from Best Buy. It was one of the few top loading washers I could find that still had an agitator. My son and daughter-in-law bought a set without an agitator and it constantly goes off balance. I’m okay with my washer and dryer, but buying appliances is not the game of old. My dryer doesn’t even have a light in it and I’m always leaving things behind. The lid locks on the washer as soon as you turn it on. I liked being able to wash out my detergent cup while the washer fills but can no longer do that. We remodeled my kitchen fairly recently. We bought a dishwasher that I am totally pleased with. I got it at Sears but I can’t remember what brand. It is the quietest dishwasher I’ve ever owned. I can turn it on in the evening and still hear the television in the next room. If I were going to buy a new refrigerator, I would certainly get one with the French doors. My daughter-in-law has one I love. I can’t remember her brand. Possibly an LG. My oven is a GE but I can’t remember exactly where we got it. It has the proofing cycle for baking bread. My stove is a gas counter top high, high, high end. It came from a house a friend was remodeling. I didn’t like it at first because I wasn’t crazy about the grid-like top but we couldn’t beat the price (free), but now I love it. It’s like having a very large trivet handy all the time. And cleaning it is a breeze. Anyway, that’s my contribution.

      1. Thank you so much for the appliance info. I’ve never had a gas stove, so that is good to know. Great information.

    3. Hi Joy,
You are getting lots of ā€œhelpā€ so Iā€™ll add my two cents worth.l saved for a gas stove that I had wanted for a long time so went shopping…and the store had a special if you replaced all of your appliances they were doing a huge rebate. Everything was Frigidaire and we had had a Frigidaire stove when we were first married and it was awesome so thinking they were still a good company we did the deal and replaced the stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave. Oh my, not a good move. Thank God, we took out the 5 year warranty.
The stove is OK..the microwave has had the guts replaced twice and has an alarmingly loud buzz. (The repairman just rolled his eyes when I asked if it could be turned downšŸ˜‰) The fridge freezes the vegetables. The shelves are well designed though and easy to adjust. The freezer part has drawers that slide out and fall off because they donā€™t fit, the ice maker jams. Iā€™ve had a dishwasher for 50 years and never had to wash the dishes first. It was just a joke. As soon as I could save up I got rid of the dishwasher and got a Kitchenaid. It cleans perfectly…so quiet you have to put your hand on the door to make sure it is running.šŸ¤—
Whirlpool is supposed to be good and the high end GE. LG is made overseas, I think, and very hard to get parts for.
      So thatā€™s my story…..Good luck!

      1. Thank you so much! Our appliances are Frigidaire/Electrolux and are all falling apart or about to. I think we did the bundle and rebate thing too. We looked at a Kitchenaid dishwasher yesterday and liked it. Now we’ll look again. And Whirlpool. I think GE was bought by an overseas company, but they might still make some here. LG is Korean I think, but the ratings are good. If that means anything. šŸ™‚ Thanks again.

Joy, we had to buy a new fridge last fall. I wanted another side-by-side, but the outlet store didn’t have one that would fit our space, so we got a Frigidaire, with a top freezer. Not as much room as the old side-by-side but I can put a pizza in there, something I couldn’t do with the old one! Plus it did Not have an ice maker (a factor, as our kitchen is not plumbed for one). Since it was a “scratch and dent” thing, the price was very good, too!! (and the scratch is down low and facing the stove, so it’s unseen!) Most importantly, it fit the space.

I am not a fan of the deep door shelves, though–we never buy full gallons of anything, so I had to figure out what things I could fit in there without having them slide out the space at the bottom of the little “fence” across the front!! LOL Plus it makes the produce and meat drawers more shallow, as a result. So that would be something to consider when choosing a fridge.

Best of all…….it is NOT brown!!! LOL (Yes, typical 70s kitchen, brown appliances. ) I went for white.

  5. Your room is so lovely, Jeanne. Because you’ve taken so long in getting it to this point, it will be embedded in you how much you are grateful for it. I’m so glad for you. I would assume you feel like it has all been worth the time and effort.

    Blessings.

  6. I’m really trying hard to remember the Commandment about not coveting thy neighbors possessions. I want your sewing room! Okay I’ve said it so now I’ll pray for forgiveness. It truly is lovely and will be an amazing place to create. Definitely free of clutter. On its best day my sewing room is not free of clutter. Have fun creating!!

Hubby is not feeling well at all. What we thought was an eye infection because he had gotten saw dust in his eye last week turned out to be a case of shingles. He swore he never had the Chicken Pox but he was adopted when he was almost five and could have had them when he was younger and not remember. He was the youngest of eight children. Unfortunately there are no family members available to ask. Anyway, we went to the ophthalmologist yesterday because we thought it was an infection that wasn’t clearing up from the eye drops he got at the emergency room. By that time the rash was showing up. We got a prescription for drops but none of our pharmacies had them so I had one order them. I need to go pick them up this morning. Then I had to drag him out again to go to his doctor so they could look at his eye and prescribe an anti-viral and pain pills. Thankfully they came out to the car and did this. He was in terrible pain yesterday because the pain pills weren’t working but after he took the second one it seems he is doing better. It’s going to be a long three weeks. No family time for us during that time, since my daughter-in-law is pregnant. She’s had the Chicken Pox, but no sense risking it.

Enjoy your lovely room. You deserve it.

    1. So sorry to hear about your hubby, Barbara. I hope the medicine helps soon. Our pastor had shingles and was miserable for a while. Has he tried a cold, wet washcloth that has been briefly in the freezer? I bet that might help since cold and ice ease pain. Or perhaps topical lidocaine?

    2. Barbara, guess it’s too late for the shot they have to give within so many hours of the outbreak? Supposed to make the healing time shorter. Hopefully the pills will work. But, if still in pain, maybe email the doctor for further advice. Maybe there is something else available. We had the series of two shots so, we either won’t get Shingles or if we do, it would be less severe.

    3. Charlotte Trayer

Oh, Barbara, I’m so sorry about your husband’s shingles. Keep close watch on that eye–shingles can be Terribly bad when an eye is involved, so don’t be afraid to call his doctor if something changes there! Might even want to take a picture every couple days or so, so you can see if/how it is changing, just in case you need to go back to the doctor.

I will keep the both of you in prayer–such a difficult thing shingles can be!!

  7. Jeanne, your sewing room looks so nice, organized, that weā€™ve seen you and your hubby work hard on. You did an amazing job.
I agree with Laureen about painting the dark furniture white some day but then I prefer white furniture over the wood color.
Iā€™m sure youā€™ll enjoy finding things now that youā€™ve organized it so well.
Congratulations on a job well done.
Btw, we have a wooden floor in our kitchen and it always looks nice despite the traffic.

  8. Everything looks really nice and you should be back in business soon.
Christmas fabric in the tub with the red lid makes sense. I have my outdoor Christmas wreaths, lights, and other outdoor things in a big, green Sterilite tub. All Christmas ornaments and indoor decor are in clear boxes with green lids

  9. Sorry to hear about your hubby Barbara, we havenā€™t had the new series of shots yet. Guess we better get signed up!
Jeanne, the room is SO NICE! I keep looking at those baskets..I have shelves with baskets too but they are so full….everything overflows.ā˜¹ļø
Enjoy the heck out of your organized room!

  10. Woo hoo! It looks fab!
I keep sewing on a desk in the dinning room. I thought Iā€™d lose that desk when my son moved into his house. Heā€™s still taking the big upright piano but decided the desk isnā€™t going to fit. Itā€™s huge. That might have forced me into tackling my sewing studio. Part of the problem is itā€™s upstairs and out of the way. Easily ignored.
Your sewing studio will remain my goal!

  11. Jeanne, What a beautiful, creative space to “play” in! Congratulations on getting it functional!
