My sewing room is starting to look like one…

Boy, was I wrong!!! I thought getting all my sewing stuff back in my room would go pretty quickly, but it hasn’t. There were a few things that had to be done first before things could be moved in place. I know it looks like a disaster in a lot of my pictures, but I was setting things around just to get them out of the living room and then trying to decide where was the best place to put them.

Adhesive felt pads had to be put on the bottom of everything that didn’t have them…and of course pieces of wood placed under the legs to level them. My hubby attached the top of the oak bookshelf to the wall because it’s a pretty big piece and I certainly didn’t want it falling over. Screws were added to help hold my Dressmaker sign in place too.

The white piece of trim where my doorway is had to be attached, caulked and the stair edge piece added.

My hubby managed to get down on his side and used a drill to attach the last piece of pvc trim along my sewing machine wall…the screw holes were spackled, but still need to be painted.

I was going to set the 2 bookshelves I was planning to use back in the slanted corner at right angles but there was too much wasted space in that corner so I ended up just placing them side by side against the wall. But of course they had to have shims underneath to level them out.

After all that was done, it was finally time to start moving things in from the stacks and stacks in my living room.

I went in my bedroom to get a few things I had stored in there and my “girls” asked when they were going to get to move back to the sewing room…I decided it was time. But I didn’t want them standing over in the corner on the dolly shelf they’ve always been on, so I did some tweaking, and shelf moving and placed them in a much better place…

I think I’ll like having them there, facing me while I sew. My American Girl dolls are on one row while my smaller dolls are up above. The shelf kind of goes up higher on the inside so my girls heads are protected and maybe a bit more dust free. My hubby is also going to make a stand for my smaller dolls. They won’t have to lay down all the time. They’re excited…

I put in a 12 hour day today and lots of things in my room got done, but I still have lots to do. I’m getting there and I think it’s going to be super efficient in here!!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Things are shaping up beautifully, Jeanne! I like that you have your dolls where you can see them all the time–and they can see you, too!! Truly, considering all the furniture you have there, and all the Things you have, you’ve really made a lot of progress, even though it may not feel that way to you!! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

  2. You certainly have made a ton of progress, Jeanne, and your sewing room looks just great, so far, at least! I now see how that big cabinet holding all the material is needed right there where your door is, and now you can hardly see the door, if at all! You needed that cabinet more than the door!
It’s good to see that George is still being the ultimate handyman, in spite of his operation! Also, I can’t get over how beautifully you did the trim at the bottom of the walls! I guess it takes a seamstress! 🙂

  3. Looking so good! The two bookcases flush against the wall are better than at right angles as you would have had trouble accessing the dresser drawers.
My girls like to watch me when I sew too.. they day they are inspiring me… and they are!
Really truly a remodel well done!🌹🌹🌹🌹

  4. Your sewing room looks amazing already. Congratulations on doing everything yourselves! What a joy to just go into the room and look around. One wouldn’t have believed this transformation to be possible! Thanks for sharing all the details. I’d still like to see the big W treadle up on the wall. Surely there’s a place. Hoping the glass-fronted accessory cabinet makes it in.

  5. Well, I was amazed that George was able to do the step down work and trim. Way to go! It looks so nice. And the floor. Such a showplace for a decorator magazine. Way to go Jeanne! It really makes the room.
I’m still wondering how the dolls would look on the top shelf on the end wall? It seems like there would be the height for them and not have their heads cut off in the side wall shelf. That lovely bookcase might work for some cute props to be displayed as I don’t see room for that glass cabinet. Did you ever try the old now white shelving across the back of the old closet? Then one of the bookcases might cover the door. For me, the visual of the multitude of colors is dizzying. But that is just me. Not that I don’t like fabric, but the rainbow would be distracting for me. However, on the closet wall, it would add exciting interest, just not visible from the living room. Had to throw that out. 🙂
I hope you’re taking breaks from all of the work because you should. How’s that raccoon? Reuben and George happy to have the living room back?
You’ve inspired me to put in a garden this year and now casting an eye as to what might be done with the sewing/doll mess around here that I have created. So much work.
Can’t believe summer is zipping by.

  6. I am super glad for you, Jeanne. Your sewing room is looking great, the “girls” and you can chat while you’re working and give their input, your room is ready for production (or nearly so), and you have a “new” room…so much to be grateful for.

    Blessings.

  7. Yes, having your girls under the Dressmaker sign facing you is great. They can provide inspiration while you sew. Nora seems pretty pleased with herself still wearing that sweet dress. She’s worn it so long now that I’ll bet she thinks you’ve forgotten and she gets to keep it.
It’s coming along and will be great when finished.

  8. You must be feeling so good about how your room is shaping up! It is so clean, so modern, so efficient!
Putting everything away will be fun for sure..then you’ll need to remember where everything is😀
    Have a good weekend☺️

Dear Jeanne, the room is so pretty. I know you are glad that it is almost finished. I bet you are smiling. You know, I think that the dolls are smiling also.
