Making my sewing room the best it can be…

I tried…really I did…to get my sewing room all finished, but it didn’t happen. There just weren’t enough hours in the day to find a home for everything. I tried as hard as I could and “I” can see progress, but I’m not sure you’ll be able to.

I decided to get all my stuff out of the living room first and into my room… so I could see what I had to find homes for. It made my room more of a disaster than it already was, but I needed to do it this way.

I’m putting lots of thought into what I use most, and trying to place those things in the most convenient and easiest place to get to.

It takes time trying to group all the like things together and figure out what containers work best.

I hope you can tell I’ve made some headway…

I did bring in a black table from the back of the house, just to set my machines on and get them up off the floor.

You can also see the 2 end sets of drawers I painted. They will get attached to a new sewing machine table one of these days.

Bit by bit and day by day, I’m getting closer to being back in business again. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long, but I shouldn’t have to do any upgrades for quite some time. :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Being a sewer myself (although not Nearly as organized as you are, Jeanne! LOL) I can certainly see what you are trying to accomplish. It does take time to find the right “homes” for your various tools and supplies! It could be that you will rearrange some things again before you are done. But, you Are making progress!! Thanks for sharing your pictures.

A little personal update here: I have finally started PT (the delay was because their staff has gotten so much smaller since the pandemic started, due to a severe downturn of patients). On Friday my therapist worked with me to get my hips aligned better, and although I’m still in a fair bit of pain at times, I know I am walking more comfortably. I had another session Sat., and later on was able to change the bed, do some ironing, fold laundry, and wash dishes–albeit with some sit-downs and a couple of sessions with an ice pack–but that is the most I’ve been able to do in a single day since before I was hurt! So, a big thank you to all who have been praying for me!

  2. Jeanne, you ARE getting somewhere! You do have that one wall lined up with furniture and your fabric is all stacked nicely in the big cabinet. I’m wondering if the drawers are yet filled. That could take away a lot of things! Like Charlotte, there might be some revisions after you do the first one, as to where little things go, but if you get the big things out of the way, it just makes it easier to find places for the small things. And I like your black table! I realize it is higher than what you need and won’t work, but still it looks good for the time!

I like that little rocking chair you have out! It would be a cute decoration for one of your shelves, even when you aren’t using it in a photo shoot!

  3. Oh Jeanne! Isn’t it nice to be more little steps closer to a (nearly) final finish? Your room is looking so nice. I continue to be so happy for you in your happy room.

    Blessings.

  4. Jeanne, speaking of sewing machine tables! Mine is a solid oak computer table I got at a yard sale for $50. It doesn’t shake one bit when I sew and has shelves on either side. Also the part that pulls out for the key board is very handy for keeping pin holders scissors, etc. when you are sewing. Just an idea you might look for when you are shopping for a sewing machine table.
    Hugs,
    Sissy

  5. Jeanne, Everything is certainly coming together wonderfully. On a side note I personally think the wheel is vastly overrated. Now bookshelves were the best invention EVER, allowing for easy access, visibility, mobility etc. LOL.
Charlotte it sounds like you’re improving but please don’t push too much and undo all that PT. After all have you ever heard of a housework thief? I’ve never had ironing or cobwebs disappear or stolen. Trust me they’ll be there tomorrow!

LOL Thanks, Dorothy!! No, I’m sure there are no housework thieves around here!! LOL

  6. I think it looks great! Although, you’ll still hear nagging about opening that door. 🙂 What a great view from the window today too. I would probably pull the blinds up for an even better view and more light when the sun is not direct. How exciting to get everything back into the space. Did you ever consider moving some things up to the attic on shelves? Things only used once in a while? Maybe the steamer could be located to the house laundry area? I remember it in the corner in the back. But, it is overwhelmingly so much nicer now. The paint colors, flooring, and everything. So glad you did this. It just adds so much to the house value as well as to the space for creativity. Now, I can’t wait to see your first creation.
Here, I went to Joann’s and found some fabric for a doll tent. Another project. Just what I need. The fabric selection is so small now. Guess they are awaiting deliveries from somewhere. And I found the boat I wanted on FB Marketplace. The Our Generation row boat which came with the vet room and the school room too. Almost all of the accessories are there too. Now my kids can go boating, but I’ll have to dig a pond ha ha, or get a backdrop. I want to do a camp/camping scene. You should have seen me trying to get all of that OG stuff into the other house by myself. Those pieces are huge. Hoping other person doesn’t notice. We have a lot of stuff there. There was also a doll and carrier, going to grand, and a huge tub of accessories. Can’t wait to see what all is there. Just like Christmas as a kid. 🙂
I can definitely see progress. Like things together etc. It will all come together soon. 🙂

  7. Putting things away where the items you use the most are close by and easy to find is important…so take your time. In the end it will be just like you want….organized and pretty!
Love seeing all your fabric folds all lined up like a rainbow. Love the fabric baskets.
I think maybe today I’ll attack my baskets and move them so the most used items are closer.
Charlotte…so glad the PT is helping so much! That is quite a change for only 2 visits….wow think what a few more will do!

  8. Oh yes, getting things organized requires a certain amount of chaos! You will be so pleased when you get it just the way you want it but it does take a lot of time. I know you must be beyond happy with the fresh paint and new floors. Your fabric looks lovely, by the way, all folded on the shelves.

Dear Jeanne, there is definitely progress. It is all coming together.

I am looking forward to the grand tour when it is all done. I bet one of the dolls will be the tour guide (laugh).

  10. It’s looking great, love it. Hope you remember where you put everything, That’s my problem when I have a really good sort out lol.

  11. Hi Jeanne
Just read your reply to my post yesterday. A chauffeurs Club sounds a good idea lol. However I had a call from my daughter this morning and her daughter (9) is feeling sick so can’t go to school. Instead of me taking her I need to babysit. I reminded her she had a couple of taxi chits for when she hasn’t anyone to take her so she will use those today. The weather is cold wet and miserable so will be much better than using the parking building and getting the hospital shuttle.
