The vintage photo’s mystery is solved…

2 updates… still no flooring… boo hoo!!! And Simon is still around… Rebecca fed him some apple chunks and he liked those, but I fed him a few pieces of imitation crab meat and he REALLY liked that! In fact, I was in the house watching him through binoculars and he was jumping all around like a kitten does… you know, all spastic like!

Then he ventured a little farther from the tree, until he was near the wheels of my mom’s car.

Then he came over as far as Rebecca’s Blazer… last I saw him, he was underneath. My hubby thinks he’s looking for bugs and insects! Who needs bugs when you can have crab? All I can say is Look Out Larry!

I don’t have much to write about today because we went out of town 3 hours north of here, to the hospital where my hubby is going to have his knee surgery on Monday. He had to get a Covid test today and some bloodwork. Today Illinois lifted some of the restrictions so one of the highlights of my day was getting to run in Hobby Lobby for a few minutes while he sat in the car. It was almost glorious! :o) I was looking for the curtain panels I had used for my kitchen window… those taupe and white buffalo checked curtain panels, and was going to use them in my sewing room to tie both rooms together, visually.

But alas, Hobby Lobby doesn’t carry curtains anymore! What? The one thing I have been waiting for was Hobby Lobby to open up so I could go get a panel of the same curtains. I was so disappointed, we stopped at a rest stop on the way home and I got an big Blue Bunny ice cream sandwich out of the vending machine! :o(

So the hunt is on for something different. I’m okay now… I wasn’t about 3:00 this afternoon! :o)

So, I uncovered the mystery of the photographs I showed a few days ago… I was looking for a picture for Cindy tonight, and solved the mystery! I didn’t even remember, but this blog post tells the whole story! I hope you’ll take a minute to read it and see where the pictures came from. Me? I’m heading to bed. I didn’t sleep well last night as I was day dreaming of how I’d make those curtains…and what else I might find to “accessorize” my new room with. I guess if the flooring doesn’t come in tomorrow, I’ll set up a temporary table in my room and use it for sewing until things get resolved with my hubby’s knee!

My Pre-Yard Sale Treasures

I may or may not have a post on Monday and Tuesday. I think my hubby has to spend the night Monday and I’ll be in a hotel all by myself. This is going to be so weird… I can’t see him before his surgery, after his surgery, and no visiting when he gets to a room. All the information will have to come from the doctor or nurses.

There is a Joann’s and a Home Depot close to my hotel… hmmm… I spied them on the way to the hotel. :o) Do I buy HIM a present OR Me a present?

I’ll see you as soon as I can…
Blessings, Jeanne

Such cute pictures of Simon! Be sure to bang on the hood of the car before getting in, just in case he might decide to hide there. You don’t want the poor little guy to meet an untimely end when you start the car….

You know, I remember your talking about getting those curtain panels at Hobby Lobby, but I don’t remember seeing them at our HL stores out here at all. One thought–might they still be on the web site? You might check that out. And perhaps you can get another fabric–smaller checks, perhaps, or a stripe–in the same or very similar tones as your existing curtains. I think that would tie them in quite well.

I think the ice cream sandwich was a suitable “consolation prize” for not finding the panels!

Well, I wondered about those pictures, and of course when I saw your post on them, I remembered reading it the first time around!! So now….you can make up your own stories about who those people are!!

I will be keeping you and George in my prayers, that all goes well for his surgery and recovery. And thanks to those who have been praying for me, too. Today started out not so great, but I started doing a little better late this afternoon, and was actually able to Walk thru the grocery store for my small shopping today! First time I haven’t had to use the motorized cart! (If I’d had to do a big shopping, though, I would have.)

    1. Hi Charlotte,
Simon is out there again today…I just gave him some fresh apples. He was sunning up on top of the big hole in the tree.

I’ll find something else for curtains…but I do like seeing them in person…I’m kind of “touchy feely” about my fabrics…this was like a loose weave linen and I loved how it hung…

Congrats on using s small grocery cart for shopping….oh, the little things we take for granted, huh?
      Thank you Charlotte,
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. Consider looking on eBay. Who knows what they might have.
And what a good excuse to spend time in JoAnn’s.

        1. Hi Marilyn,
I HAVE been looking on Ebay… grest minds think alike!! :o)
          Thanks Marilyn,
          Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I’m not sure what happened yesterday that I didn’t comment, but I guess I didn’t! I see that Simon is still there, and now maybe he isn’t going to feel like leaving being able to dine on crab! What a spoiled little raccoon! He is adorable!

Oh dear, no curtains for you at Hobby Lobby! Yes, like Charlotte mentioned, maybe they have them online, or somebody does! I also like the combination of gingham and toile prints. Maybe you could find something similar online in toile too.

In yesterday’s post, you mentioned that Larry, the skink, is now outside! They are really good to have—–outside! They eat a lot of bugs and things that are not good to have in a garden, so Larry is just going to be able to do his job now. I also found that some of them have a blue tongue. I was going to ask if he did, but I guess you didn’t catch that ! You just wanted him out!

Prayers for George, and you too. That sure will be strange not to be able to see him. Yes, I think you need to get yourself something, and a good book would work for George, although I know Home depot doesn’t sell that kind, but they do have a lot of do-it-yourself magazines! (as if George doesn’t do-it-himself!)

I would love to send pictures of our annual spring visit through the Botanical Gardens, but it isn’t yet open! I sure am missing it, and hope to get there sometime this summer when it is open. I need my flower fix!

    1. Hi Linda,
Simon was out sunning on the tree this morning…I chopped up a piece of an apple and put it by the tree trunk and he came right down. I’m sure one of these days he’ll scamper away, so I’m just helping him get a good healthy headstart…
He’s mentioned a certain kind of screwdriver a couple of times the last few weeks, do maybe I can find it at Home Depot… I can “look” st Joann’s but I better not buy!!! :o)

When they do open up the Botsnical Gsrdens, I bet you’ll be the first ones in line!!!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. How funny about the old photos. I was racking my brain trying to remember where I had seen them before. Guess my memory is fading. 🙂
Didn’t know you would be getting a new pet did you? Better keep Reuben leashed as raccoons can be very aggressive as they age. But, Simon is awfully cute right now.
There are a lot of buffalo checks out there. I’m sure you can find a close match or the toile print that Linda mentioned. Or who knows, maybe someone has some near you on facebook sales.
Sorry you can’t be in the waiting room for George, but I’m sure the doctor will contact you by phone as soon as he is out of surgery. Maybe he won’t have to spend the night, but hope you can use that wait time at Joann’s and other nearby stores. I did that when other person had his cataract surgery and the time whizzed by.
    Be thinking of you both.

    1. Hi Joy
I guess BOTH of our minds are fading…I BOUGHT THE PICTURES AND DIDNT REMEMBER… yikes!!!
Ivebeenlooking on Facebook marketplace and so far nothing. It was just something I thought I could get bought, get made and get hung. Now I’m in all out search mode!!! I’ll find something…
It IS going to be strange to drop him off, they did say I could wait in the waiting room…and then not see him till we go home.
Oh well, it’s just supposed one a simple revision surgery…hopefully with no complications like he had when he had both knees replaced.
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Praying for his full recovery. I have had both knees replaced, 2011, 4 months apart. Best thing I ever did, but I followed the therapy religiously!!! Also have been going to water aerobics classes for 11 years.
    Good luck and best wishes!

    1. Hi Sissy,
My hubby had both of his knees replaced at the same time…I think in 2013 or maybe 2014. His right knee has started to bow out and the MSL along the outside has loosened. They are inserting a wedge (kind of like a shim for the knee) into his knee to make his knee area less loose. It’s called a revision surgery and the dr who did his bilateral knees is his surgeon again…
      Thank you for your prayers,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Prayers for George’s surgery and recovery. And for you. Not being able to visit people in the hospital is the worst. When David was in back in early April our only contact was by cell phone. Thankfully he was in good shape and could do that. But when he told me his phone was running down and he didn’t have his charger and then I didn’t hear from him one evening, it was a difficult time. When I heard from him the next day he said he was trying to conserve his battery. He was only in from Tuesday to Friday morning but it seemed like forever.

Simon is definitely the cutest – right now. I had a friend whose mother was from PA. His family went up from Texas one summer and found a raccoon and brought it back. It was full grown and a real handful. I’m not sure why they even thought bringing it back was a good idea. It took over the back seat of the car and the parents and four kids had to all sit in the front seat. Obviously before the days of seatbelts. One day his father came home from work to find the raccoon trying to drown the neighbors Golden Retriever in a puddle left from the afternoon rain. They finally decided it needed a new place to live.

It’s good things are starting to open up for you. Sorry about your curtain panels. I’ve been down that frustrating path more than once. I’m assuming if Hobby Lobby is open so is JoAnn’s so passing the time while you wait to bring your hubby home could be more enjoyable. I used to go with David to jobs sometimes when he had his construction-related business. He drove the equipment with the big truck and trailer and I would drive the car so he would not have to drive the big rig back and forth when the job involved multiple days. There always seemed to be a Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s nearby for me to hang out at while he worked. He knew where I was, and as long as the car was available for lunch and to come home, he figured the rest of the day was mine to do with as I chose. He was just thankful he didn’t have to drive the big truck back and forth.

    1. Hi Barbara
I didn’t get my comments to you posted to yours…they are below yours…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Hi Barbara,
Hopefully my hubby will go in on Monday morning and we’ll be on our way home Tuesday afternoon!!!

I’m not hoping to keep Simon as a pet… just wanted to help him out since he was just a baby and all by himself. I have enjoyed seeing him in the tree and being playful, but when he’s gone I’ll be fine…

It will be fun just to go and wander around in Joann’s. I’m tired of looking ONLY in Walmart. I can get inspired at Joann’s and maybe even find some curtain fabric there. The Joann’s is only 2 miles down the same road as the hospital is on… and right next to my hotel.
    Thank you Barbara,
    Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Good luck to George for his knee repair. Good luck to you too for being by yourself there but those 2 stores will make it tolerable.😉
I wonder if eBay might have some of those curtains? Maybe someone ordered them and didn’t use them?
Glad you are improving Charlotte…but maybe you should have the DR check you one more time?
Hope you all have a good weekend!

    1. Thank you Kathie,
I’m sure I’ll enjoy looking in both stores. Theres a Taco Bell next door too! :o) I have plenty of options to keep me occupied!
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Simon is so cute. I would get very attached to him.
That is too bad about the curtains. I wanted some of those cross over curtains with the ruffles for my bedroom from the “Country Curtains” catalog and they went out of business before I was able to get them. I’m going to look for similar ones.
Glad you solve the photograph mystery. You have a nice set of “adopted” relatives..
Praying that George’s surgery is uneventful and he heals soon. It’s sad that you can’t see him before or after, but you can keep yourself busy.

    1. Hi Laura,
I’m trying not to get attached to him…he’s a wild animal and I don’t really want him to hang around but while he’s a baby I’ll help him out.
I used to be on the mailing list for Country Curtains…and used to copy the ones I liked!
      Thank you Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Vibes that George’s surgery goes well and that his recovery is smooth. I’m sure you can find things to occupy your mind while you wait. Safe travels!

    1. Hi Beth,
My hubby has a list a mile long trying to get things finished up before his surgery.
      Our yard looks wonderful!!!
      Thank you so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, hmmm, I think you should buy each of you a gift (smile). It should be fun walking around in the stores again.

I hope you are going to be able to get some rest while your husband is recuperating.

    Sending prayers your way.

    1. Hi Dorothy,
I like your idea of us each getting a gift. I’ll tell him, “Dorothy made me do it!”
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. I wish great skill in addition to luck with any surgery. Luck isn’t good enough on its own. Great luck, though, to find the curtain source. I was going to suggest Bed, Bath and Beyond but no need now. Maybe next time you can’t find something.

Our Joann’s closest to home has been open the whole time. When one ordered something on-line,, they would bring it to the door if you called ahead and knocked on the door and you didn’t have to wait in the long lines to even get in. I still drive by and see how many cars are in the parking lot and just keep going. Not going to risk it. Haven’t been to Costco since March 6th. Again, long lines and parking lots full. Not going to the hairdresser’s either even though rapidly turning gray, not the pretty kind.

Joann’s hasn’t had black thread in stock in stores or on line since this all began! I order it and three days later get a notice it’s out of stock. Finally found some on Etsy. I use Gutermann and it was almost $14 with shipping. Oh, well. I was going to ask if anyone had some and didn’t sew anymore if I didn’t get some soon. Whew!

Best wishes for your upcoming adventures.

LOL! What the heck, get something for each of you!! Good Luck to him (and you).
