I guess I “am” planning on making my sewing room TOTALLY AWESOME…

I read the comments at 12:45a.m. because my watch said it was 11:00 when I quit painting… apparently it was wrong because all the clocks in the house say it was 12:30. UGH! So here I sit, pooped out from painting most of the afternoon and into the late night hours… but I HAD to get it all done…Cindy is coming this weekend and my hubby is having a revision surgery on his knee replacement on June 1st. If “Caulk King” doesn’t get it done before then, it will be a LONG time before it does get done… so I had to finish…and I almost did. I just have to finish painting the inside sections of those built in shelves in the middle of my room…

…and decide what I’m going to do about my hinged cutting table hanging on the wall… I painted around it for now till I decide.

When I read the comments, Kathie’s was last and she said, “As long as you are painting, just make it totally awesome!” I guess that’s what I’m doing…even though I didn’t plan on this… remember it was ALL about a new sewing table. I still can’t believe it’s all happened and actually pretty quickly too.

I have a few pictures to show you… but nothing super exciting…unless you’re thinking, “The sooner she gets done, the better!”

It took a REALLY long time to get all my stuff out of the room… I have too much stuff and will be weeding out as it goes back in… I did leave my bigger pieces of furniture in there and this is how they have been lined up for a few years… nothing too exciting…

When I moved them a bit into the middle of the room, I saw that LONG PECAN colored wall and thought it was going to take a long time to paint and it did! All the little nail holes needed to filled and sanded and lots of imperfections that are mostly still there but covered up by paint now. Again, this house is not a show house and by no means perfect, but I like to think it will be nicer than it was 2 weeks ago… If you could see some of the ways things were put together in here, you’d croak…

But I just became laser focused and kept at it… here’s a shot of being “almost” finished with that corner… yes, there is a door behind my shelves… I actually could have access to my sewing room if I had customers… :o)

My hubby fell asleep so I had to figure how I was going to move that big oak bookshelf with my fabrics folded up on it out of the way… First I had to get my Dressmaker sign down and then I had to get a tote to put some of the fabrics in… it lightened the load just enough I could barely push it out of the way…

Here’s a panoramic shot of the room… so you can “sort of see it all.”

So where did all my stuff go? On the other side of the living room… in front of the wood burner… It’s a good thing we can’t have any company over… (Cindy isn’t company, she’s family!) :o)

I have lots to do tomorrow, so I better get to bed… I’m on the downhill slope, don’t you think???? :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Definitely on the downhill slope of this project, Jeanne!

I hope you will take some time to do something fun with Cindy while she’s there! You deserve that break!!

  2. Yes, Jeanne, you are on the way to finishing up, but I hope your back is OK today! I used to think I could do anything, and I used to be able to, but now, I realize sometimes there are limits to what I can do! I can’t believe you are up so late, actually DOING things!

It looks like your weekend will be a lot of fun for you when your guests arrive! If only it would stop raining so we can get the backyard cut!!

Sorry I have been MIA for the last month plus but a horrid move, COVID in family, a family death and figuring out how to get everything I owe into new place which is much smaller. I swear I have touched, moved, moved again and re-arranged everything in every room at least three times. Too old for this stuff. Our building is on lock down so nobody is allowed in to help except my aid 3 times a week. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Jeanne my studio looked like a bomb went off in it 4 times. Finally pretty happy with how everything went back together.

This looks like a massive project and can’t wait to see the end results. Hard work for you and your husband but in the end you’ll be so glad you made the change. All of them. Have fun with your sister and her husband and I’m sure she will jump right in and give you a hand.

On moving large pieces of furniture alone if you don’t have furniture glides, take a paper bag and rip enough pieces to put under each leg or side/back. One push and it will move across the floor and it works on carpet also. Wax paper is also handy when you need help. It also helps from marking the floor or rug. I’ve moved all the furniture in my house like that for years with no help and it saves your back.

  4. You’re working so hard but I know you’ll be so glad when you’re finished especially with all that’s coming up for you and George in the upcoming days. Take care.

    Blessings.

  5. I love the panoramic photo! With that and the floor plan it makes everything come together. Here’s the question. Do you really need all of that furniture in your small space? I think removing some might be the key to openness. If it has to stay, perhaps painting it all a uniform white? The exception being the tall doll display piece which would shine by itself and maybe the shelves with the fabric. I wonder if they would fit on the long wall leaving the door end free? And perhaps between the door and the window your photography stand might fit? And does the exit door have glass? Would it let in more light? I think that having a door to the outside would be wonderful. How nice to have it. But, that is just me. Can’t wait to see how you are going to reconfigure everything. The end product will be wonderful. And I completely forgot the new floor. Now that will be a great transformation too. Oh, and that new machine tabletop that started it all. 🙂
The fresh paint looks so nice, but please take care of yourself. George too. Should be a fun time with Cindy visiting.
No power again tomorrow. They are replacing the same pole yet again. Why is that? Getting the generator ready so we can run the refrigerator and it is supposed to be hot, like pushing 90 so no fans.

  6. You certainly are plowing through at a great clip. It does look like you are on the downward swing. When you are all finished you could post a video detailing every last little bit. Ha Ha just kidding, but I do hope you’ll share pictures in order walking around the room so we can see all George and you have accomplished.
How fun that Cindy is coming this weekend. She can always help you and give you lots of great pointers as to where everything should go. Many hands make light work, so the two of you could sort through what goes back in twice as fast.
Since this will be a summer of staycations, I hope to gussy up the porch a little. I was browsing on eBay (won’t bore you with the backstory of why my Martha Stewart Living were thrown away) and I found a lot of all the M S Living magazines dating back to the very first issue, years before I subscribed and jsut had to have them as I love to cook, bake, garden and craft. Also got the lot of Mary Engelbreit’s Home Companion magazines with all artwork and paper dolls and only missing two issues. These, along with the AGOT croquet set I found NRFB are my late Christmas and birthday presents to myself this year. I saw some neat pictures in some of my new to me (old in reality magazines) that have stenciling on the ceiling and inside the supports of front porches. I will glean ideas from these for years to come.

    1. You sound like someone on agpt. I am so glad you have been able to replace some of your magazines. Keep what you love.

      1. Hi Marilyn, I sound like her, because I am her.:-) I was having a very bad week on top of the current world stress, but, as in most things, if I can right it quickly, I will. Now I’m on cloud nine, especially since there are all basically flawless except for minor shelf and storage ware. I’m already having fun looking through them. Pets + pretty pictures and projects = great stress relief.

        1. Should have been they are all… as usual typing too fast.
Please PM me on Playthings so we can connect. Linda made the connection between here and there years ago shortly after I joined AGPT. I wonder how many others from here on on there as well. I think she also mentioned you’re on AG Dollhouse, so am I.

  7. Bless you Jeanne! You are a hard worker. I wish I could come and help. Just keep your vision in mind and that will encourage you. I’m sure you know that so well.
    I wish you Godspeed.

  8. Do you know about those glide things called Moving Men? I’m sure Home Depot has some. They work surprisingly well.

    1. Moving Men are wonderful. I have them under my antique cherry Victorian era china cabinet which is quite tall and very heavy.and you can move it across the hardwood floor very slowly a few inches to vacuum behind, even fully loaded. I love it as it was a present from my Dad one birthday.

  9. Oh, Jeanne, just seeing the progress makes me excited for you! What a wonderful haven you are creating! The new wall color really makes a great difference. You have put in so many hours—I have somehow misplaced my dedication to any one project, and hubby is not nearly as handy as your George. Good luck to home on his knee revision. I feel for him—I had a rather unsuccessful knee surgery last fall, and it still hurts like crazy. I am afraid I am looking at a replacement in the next year or so. I’m not nearly as old as I feel some days!
