Camping suits these dolls just fine…

It was fun getting to read about the various dolls you all have and see which dolls were the most popular. I have to admit, we have quite a broad variety of dolls represented here! Thanks for playing along. It was the biggest number of contestants I’ve ever had in a giveaway (29) and I’m sure you are all waiting to see who won…

Well, I’m going to make you wait a little longer… what fun would it be if I just told you who it was and it wasn’t you? So you’ll have to wait and SEE if you were the winner just a little longer. I hope the winner will let us know when she receives her prize. I’m planning to get the prize picked out and mailed to the winner in the next 2 days. (I sure hope my “boss” will give me time off from the sewing room “adventures” to get something together! :o)

Today was one of those days when doing the renovation stuff took forever… My poor hubby…he thought this was all about a nicer sewing table…and now we’ve had warpy, wavy paneling, a hole AND a leak in the corner, a leak in the roof, a hole in the siding to fix, concrete to bust up that was in the corner of the room, and he’s never even made it to that caulk job yet! It took the day to just get the corner right…and it’s still not finished… but I did get a few cute pictures of my hubby laying on the ground outside my sewing room working on the siding and that corner…

The plan is to get more done tomorrow than what we accomplished today! We are also going to spray some water up on the roof and see if we have any leaks in the corner… pray we don’t, cause I’m not sure my hubby can take it if we do!

My daughter, Rebecca, always seems to find the best cards for me and this Mother’s Day card was no exception. She likes the ones that catch you off guard…

I’m so happy Linda sent me some pictures of her girls in their camping attire… otherwise this post would have been really short!

This is what Linda had to say…
“I decided to put the dolls in camping gear, since I just got a fishing outfit for Ivy from Queen’s Treasures. I put Scarlett in the AG hiking outfit and have them in an outdoor scene. It turned out pretty cute, and then decided to get the 40″s girls in their camping outfits and share the scene, but I couldn’t put them all together in the same picture because of limited space. So I took two pictures, and a closeup of the “fixin’s”!”

Thanks so much, Linda! They look like they are having so much fun!

Thanks everyone,
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I have a hunch that George really doesn’t mind having to “fiddle” with these construction projects! My husband enjoys tinkering with various things, too, when he can.

The card from Rebecca is darling, and the note she wrote is just precious.

Linda, thanks for sharing pictures of your dolls! I never did get that particular outfit for my Molly, probably because I’ve never been a camper myself. Ron talked a bit about our going camping after we were married. I told him that would be fine, as long as there was some place for me to plug in my sewing machine! I never was pressed into going camping, thank goodness!! I’m not big on “roughing it”–I like (as my friend Liz says) my “mod. cons.” (modern conveniences)!

I didn’t get to read your blog last night, so I’m too late for the contest, but here are my answers, anyway.

1–yes, I have Molly, Felicity and Kirsten of the historic dolls, and the first Asian Girl of Today plus a more recent blonde (my April Eleanore).
2–yes, seven. I have pictures ready to send you but it’ll be another day or two (see my note below).
3–yes. I have Hitty (5″) and three American Kit dolls (7″), all by Robert Raikes when he was mass-producing them, and also a couple of the tiny Kish dolls.
4–Mostly they wear dresses, but not necessarily “dressy” or “fancy” dresses. More like “little girl” dresses like we used to wear in the 1950s.
5–definitely! I love milk chocolate, also peppermint (not just “mint”). See’s Lemon Truffles, although in dark chocolate, are to die for! Can’t wait till they reopen, as I only have three left from the box Ron got me for my birthday. I’m trying to “save” them, or at least parcel them out, a half a candy at a time.
6–Yes. I love to sew for my dolls! Some of them have better wardrobes than I do!

Now, that note: Had a lovely Mother’s Day, with flowers and a card from our son and his girlfriend. They came down in the afternoon with her brother, and the three of them did some massive clean-up (trimming the ivy way back etc.) in our front yard! Really wonderful!!

And then last night Ron and I were going to get some ice cream. He had trouble getting his foot up onto the curb/sidewalk and started to fall; I rushed towards him, and he knocked me flat on my back on the concrete! P*A*I*N!!!! I wouldn’t let anyone try to help me up, as it was my Back, and I have osteoporosis! So an aid car was called, and they used a “clam shell” thing to pick me up and put me on the stretcher and took me to the hospital for x-rays. No broken bones–thank you Lord!–but I am so sore…..Tonight it seems to have localized in my lower back/hips area and under my left shoulder blade, plus my ring and middle fingers on my left hand are swollen. I had presence of mind to remove my wedding set when I saw my finger was starting to swell, so at least they didn’t have to cut that off!

I was in ER for maybe 2+ hours, then they made sure I could walk (albeit very gingerly) before they sent me home. My poor husband felt awful of course (and didn’t seem to be hurt too badly, thank goodness), and he had to wait in the waiting room, and No One is allowed in the ER these days, other than patients and staff.

I was sent home with muscle relaxants and some lidocaine patches. This is going to take a while, to get over.

Dear Charlotte, oh my goodness. I am glad you are alright. I wondered where you were but I thought you were just busy. I told your namesake, Charlotte Noelle, that you had a “boo boo.” She sends big hugs to you. Take good care of yourself.

    2. Charlotte,
I am SO sorry to hear of your fall… what an awful thing to happen! I guess we’ll both be needing to wear those “fall risk” bracelets! :o) Hope and pray your soreness works itself out of you quickly!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Oh, Charlotte, poor you! I was wondering where you were when I was commenting yesterday, now we know. Prayers for you quick recovery! So sorry to ready that.

Well, Jeanne, if there is any picture of George that typifies who he is, it’s the first picture you showed! He is the Handy Man of all Handy Men! I cannot imagine George just sitting around! Thank heavens you have him, or I’m sure you would go broke having various repairmen fixing things!

That is a darling Mother’s Day card, and it caught me off-guard too! Rebecca has a good sense of humor, doesn’t she? However, I can’t imagine you running off, no matter what happens!

Thank you for showing my dolls. They certainly do give me something to smile about in these uncertain days we are having! It must be kind of dull not having dolls to dress, right?

  3. Hi Jeanne and all,

George is a gem, that’s certain. I hope that the work that he is about in the corner will not be too overwhelming for him or you. It’s wonderful that he can get this taken care of despite the hours and hours it takes to get it in a usable and protected state.

Linda, your photos are marvelous. We are grateful, aren’t we for having dolls around to dress. I too am grateful for the dolls that I have-smiling, pretty, unaware (we think) of the happenings around their human folk. It’s like stepping into another reality to play with them.

    Blessings.

  4. What a delightful card from Rebecca. So thoughtful.
Great shot of George under the bush fixing the siding. When I noticed that downspout, it made me wonder if it isn’t also contributing to the roof leak with a backup of water there on the roof? We installed gutter guards on my parents house which have been so worth it as there are lots of trees/leaves there. Haven’t done that yet at our place, but we should. Just a thought. Know this project has turned into a doozy, but when you are done and no longer have drafts in your sewing room or leaks and a tabletop that fits the wall shape, it will be wonderful. Keep up the good work. 🙂
Linda’s camping scene is so fun. Love all of the gear and that perfect tree as well. The girls at camp in their uniforms and their picnic supplies are perfect. 🙂
Rained all day yesterday. The plants were so happy, and hopefully, I can get back to pulling blackberry out of the yard again soon. 🙂

  5. Oh my …so sorry you took a tumble Charlotte. You had a hard landing…poor dear! Hope the next few days improve all your sore spots. Those lidocaine patches are wonderful. At the UFDC convention a few years ago my back was awful and as I was walking down the hall another conventioneer stopped me and said “ your back hurts doesn’t it?Here take this and put it on it will feel better.” I don’t know who she was…maybe a DollAngel?…but I headed for the rest room and put it on and it felt so much better! Have kept them handy ever since😉
Sorry I didn’t get to your doll survey either….so here goes.
    1. Yes I have one American Girl Doll…she came to be a model so I could make clothes for my Granddaughters AG dolls.
    2. Yes, Little Darlings are my favorite! I have 3, one of each model…my favorite is the smiling one. Looking forward to getting the doll Dianna Effner made for the convention this year. It will be quite the bargain…almost half the price and no long wait! If you signed up and paid for the convention then you can buy one😉
    3. Yes, love smaller dolls too. Riley’s by Helen Kish, Betsty Mc Calls, Antique Migonette,…would love one of those little Meadow dolls
    4. Dresses
    5. Sweet tooth? Oh yes, cookies!
    6. Yes, I sew for my dolls but mostly for clients dolls…especially the antique bisque that are dressed in white eyelet and ruffles.
Joy…. I remember making that same sun dress for my girls when they were little! So cute with the ruffles hanging out the back!
George can honestly fix anything! Can’t wait to see the finished sewing corner😉
Glad you all had a great Mothers Day!

    1. Oh…Linda,
Your camping scenes are so realistic! What awesome accessories you have…and the patience to set them up! I can almost taste the S’mores!

  6. Charlotte ! I hope you are okay! Take care – you’ll probably be sore more than the day you fell. Feel better.

Linda, your camping girls look like they are having fun. All those camping goodies will help. I think American Girl has the greatest accessories.

Rebecca’s card is so funny and that little girl is so cute. What a lovely message Rebecca wrote inside.

Jeanne, your handy man is not afraid to get down on the ground to do his job and do it right. That’s wonderful. I hope you have no more water leaks and the corner is repaired as needed. When you get you’re sewing cabinet back in there, it’ll be so much nicer.
We have a large cabinet with all sorts of items on its many shelves. When we leave to go back home, my husband built these special panels to hang over the shelf openings in case there is an earth quake. It amazed me ! Now I don’t have to box all the breakable items separately in a box somewhere. Like you, I’m grateful I have a husband who is handy in creating ideas for repair and good use in renovating.

  7. Oh, Charlotte, I’m so sorry for you. I hope that you recover quickly. Glad to hear you saved your wedding bands, I think that would have made you very sad to have them cut off.

What a sweet card from Rebecca, Jeanne.
Your dolls are lovely as always, Linda. The camping scene looks like a lot of fun. Just don’t let the fuzzball steal a s’more.

  8. A whole post full of cute! Hubby, card, and camping. Linda, your two scenes are wonderful! Keeping them separate was good because they are different eras.

Oh,no, Charlotte! My first worry was your head! Healing is going to take time and patience.

  9. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, I love the Mothers Day card! I had to read it three times before I got the meaning. Clearly I am having a “duh” day (laugh).

Linda’s girls are so sweet and clearly industrious.

I am looking forward to seeing the room when it is completed.

And the winner is… I love the suspense in all of this. We definitely need a bit of fun right now.

  10. Really cute card from Rebecca. Such a lovely note she wrote. My oldest son always gives me these kind of cards. He is my stepson that we got custody of when he was seven (about three years after we married). It was better for him under the circumstances but he didn’t think so. He was a bit of a problem and knows it. He gives me cards that are funny and his way of apologizing for doing some of the things he did. I accept his apology and I love the cards.

Linda I love the pictures of your campers. Your detail is wonderful. Makes me feel like I’m there. When our kids were growing up we always went camping in Colorado. Basically wilderness camping. My hubby used to work for the Colorado Forest Service when he was in college so he wanted to show us the trails he cleared. I have no problem doing without some of my modern conveniences but I in no way camped where I didn’t have access to water. Sometimes it meant he and our youngest son had to haul the water bottles a good ways. They humored me. We stopped camping after the kids left home. By that time our bodies were not comfortable sleeping in the beds available for camping, especially when air mattresses deflate overnight and you end up on the cold ground. I showed my dolly girls the pictures and now we have a world of discontent. Where’s my camping shorts outfit? Why don’t we get to go camping with tents and campfires and S’MORES?!!! The thought of camping attire for nearly 30 young ladies is scary, as much as I love to sew.

Charlotte, I am so sorry to hear about your fall. I’ll be praying you’re back on your feet in good time. Good you got some muscle relaxants. They always work well because when we relax we don’t make things worse. And lidocaine patches. Oh yeah! Is a heating pad of any help to you?

Jeanne it sounds like your project is moving along even if it does seem slow. I’m really impressed at the way George physically can do what he does. It’s been awhile since my hubby can do that. He enlists the help of the boys a lot these days and now our grandson is getting old enough to help some. Hubby is helping youngest son put in a new kitchen since and faucet set today. Sean does the physical work while David straw bosses and together they get the job done. I can’t wait to see the finished product. The new sink is like mine and I love it.

Can’t wait to find out who won the giveaway and what they won. Hope they send a picture!

  11. This site is really an oasis of joy in the midst of the crazy world! I love the wonderful doll scenes, and I absolutely adore seeing into others’ creative spaces! You all are so talented! George is definitely a keeper. My hubby is not quite as handy, but I have “collected” quite a few helpers/draftees among my children and their spouses! One son-in-law is an electrical engineer, one is an IT guy, and daughter-in-law is a lawyer. (Son is a business/numbers guy, daughter #1 is in the medical field, youngest daughter is an engineer and my “fashion consultant.” I am truly blessed with this “collection”!

Charlotte, ouch! I hope you are healing. That sounds painful.
