Have you ever seen Kirsten NOT look pretty in blue?

I don’t think I ever have. She’s kind of like Elizabeth with those big beautiful blue eyes. They were MADE to wear blue in just about any shade.

I told you I was hoping to get some sewing done over the weekend, and I did! Quite a bit actually. I’m not finished with Kirsten’s dirndl, but I have mastered all the time consuming parts…

I hope you’ll like it.

Rebecca helped me decide on the blue buttons…

I didn’t ask my hubby for his opinion on this one… :o)

I’ll keep sewing if you’ll keep reading! :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. No, Jeanne, I have never seen Kirsten NOT look pretty in blue! That is going to be a stunning dress, and no doubt the dirndl will only add to the Swedish look of the dress. I was thinking, maybe a pretty dark blue ribbon tied into a bow would look nice at the neckline in the center, unless it is too much with the dirndl added. I imagine you will make the dirndl separate, so that it can be worn either way.

Is a hat in the mix? If so, and if it is tied under the chin, maybe the added bow on the bodice would be too much. Just a thought. Can’t wait to see what comes next! It certainly is coming together nicely!

      1. HI Linda,
Yes, Kirsten’s hair will be in braids… I was just waiting till I got more done on the dress before I did her hair. I might look up some ways of braiding it besides just 2 hanging down, but for now, that’s what it will be…
I haven’t even looked in my vintage hankies to see what I have to go with this, but I’m sure I’ll find something.
I also haven’t decided about a hat either… I wanted to look at some ideas for one before I started with one.
It won’t be too long before it’s all finished… I think the color of the blue in the skirt is such a pretty color on her… I almost hate to cover it up…
        Thanks Linda,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  2. kirsten is lovely in blue — or red, or brown, or pink — or anything else. she’s a lovely doll and this is a lovely outfit. love the lace and buttons, and i do love the swedish caps too.
the slideshow for me was THE BEST. what a productive summer you had.

    1. So glad your back with us, Marilyn. I missed seeing your posts. I don’t recall what AG’s you have. Do you have Kirsten?

    2. HI Marilyn,
Kirsten does wear a lot of the colors very well… she’s got this all around “I can wear anything” kind of skin…
I’ve got to get busy… my day has been long and I haven’t even stepped foot in my sewing room yet, except to wrap up the little dress for Bailey and send it off…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. This dress is very very sweet.
I am finishing up my sewing projects and then I am going to start making some doll clothes for my 4 AG dolls (all early models) They already of a huge box of handmade outfits, but now I have scraps and can make some fun things, purses too maybe.

Kirsten looks sweet. These colors really make her shine

    1. HI Rosemary,
Good for you on getting to sew for your AG’s… They will be so excited to get something new…even it IS just a purse!
Thanks for your sweet compliments on Kirsten’s dress…so far…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Kirsten has the blues! In a good way. Will you be adding ribbon crisscrossing the buttons? Hard to remember some of your other wonderful creations. The two main fabrics are lovely, and the beige vest ties it all together. Hope you find time to add some more touches for us to see. An apron? Cute socks? And what will Kirsten be doing? Shopping? Attending a festival? Mushroom hunting? Picking up new tires at Costco?
A new Dumpling is headed this way. Can’t wait. 🙂

    1. HI Joy,
I did take a piece of floss and twist it around a few of the buttons… but it was late last night when I finished, so I didn’t play around with it enough to know… maybe!
You are ALWAYS full of ideas for a story line… Hmmmm…now what WILL she be doing…
Are you getting a Sissi doll? Or someone else… You lucky duck! :o)
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

        1. HI Joy,
I think Sissi has a LOT of possibilities… her looks vary from one doll to the next… more so than some of the others… I BET you are excited… don’t forget to “track your mail” and send your hubby to the store when she’s supposed to arrive! :o)
          Blessings, Jeanne

  5. What a lovely dress for Kirsten. I love all the fabrics and the trim really adds to the outfit. Looking forward to the finished product. Per Joy, Kirsten should definitely be picking up new tires at Costco. Her comment made me chuckle.

Hoping to see Rosemary B’s new frocks for her dolls sometime down the road. And more about Joy’s new Dumpling.

Weather here should be getting cooler and less humid for a couple days, then back to sweltering for a day and then we are due an arctic front later in the week really lowering our temps and humidity. Can’t wait!!!

    1. HI Barbara,
Joy’s Costco comment made me laugh too… silly girl!
I’m glad you like Kirsten’s dress in the works… I hope to get in my sewing room in just a bit… then I’ll see what else I can add…
Today was wonderful… just the way I like it… slightly cool, but not enough to make you shiver…
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I don’t know how you pick which fabric to go in which spot but the way you have it is so cute. Were you able to use them all??😀
This will be an all seasons dress. She can wear it for any occasion all year.
I love her hair in braids too..but you will know how it looks the best with this dress.
    Have a good week

    1. HI Kathie,
I haven’t used all the fabrics yet, but I’m not finished YET… so maybe we’ll see…
I AM going to put her hair in braids… for sure on this one… I’m still deciding on a cap… what style to do this time…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Are the buttons little stars? I have some but I always use them in a patriotic color scheme. They really pop against the yellow. I rarely make anything from blue so my Elizabeth doesn’t have a blue colonial dress. I should change that. I have lots of fabric from my Mom that probably has some blues. I need to break out of my rut.
I continue to sew things for my lagenlook wardrobe. I just finished a petticoat with eyelet at the hem and a full ruffle above it. I might add another ruffle but for now I can wear it and I’m moving on to my next project.
We are having a beautiful fall day. Bike riding weather!

    1. HI Julia,
No, the buttons are kind of like little flowers… they have rounded edges to them.
You DEFINITELY need to make your Elizabeth a blue dress. You’ll be amazed at how pretty she looks in blue…
Congrats on getting some other sewing done… for yourself, no less. I can’t remember the last thing I made for me… :o(
It was wonderful here today too!
      Thanks Julia,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

    Dear Jeanne, what pretty blues.

I had a lovely tea with friends on Saturday.

The doll show and sale was fun on Sunday. Dolls and tea, pure bliss.

We will definitely keep reading and posting!

    1. HI Dorothy,
Well the pressing question IS… did YOU buy any new dolls at the doll sale? If so, who? I’m sure you had a wonderful time… you are so right, “dolls and tea… pure bliss!”
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. How lovely Kirsten looks in blue. She’s like Caroline IMO, has to have clothing to match her eyes. The combination of fabrics really set off her sapphire eyes and golden straw hair. Now she just needs a bonnet or one of those darling half bonnets I’ve seen you make.
I thought to look up what they do in Sweden in the fall just for fun (like my Samantha has the traditional nutting party, if only in my head) and Joy is spot on with the mushroom hunting, It’s like in Germany with the fliegenpiltz design used for candy, ornaments etc. although the real mushroom isn’t edible.

I agree the Kirsten needs her hair in braids or the loops.

    1. HI Laura,
Well, maybe Kirsten just might have to go mushroom hunting… I’ll have to have her boots on for this excursion…
Yes, her hair will be in braids…
I’m glad you like this set so far… Now I’m off to see what else I can do on it…
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne
