Addy’s looking very stylish in her new Fall dress…

I’ve been working on Addy’s dress and it’s starting to look like a real Civil War dress… I’ve added some buttons down the front (sorry, plastic), a row of lace on either side of them, sewed up the side seams and added the skirt. I’m still working on the bottom of it, so today you’ll just see the bodice.
There’s still a ways to go, but I hope you like it so far….

A few ladies asked what might I make to go with this, a matching bonnet perhaps? Uh… I don’t think so! I think I have fewer scraps from this dress than from any other dress I’ve ever made. See…

Oh…and I almost forgot… here’s a crinoline for under her dress. I had some white ruffles cotton fabric and thought it would make a cute crinoline. It has boning in the bottom and a stretch lace waist for all those Addy’s of various sizes.

(excuse the stand… I didn’t want to take her off it for just one picture…)

I’ll keep working and see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. The black lace looks just elegant on Add’s dress!! It’s really coming along nicely. I also love the crinoline–so nice to have some “pouf” for under the skirt!

We got our new fridge today, and the last 24 hours have been filled with scrubbing floors and moving food in and out of the fridges. Everything is back in now, but I will need to work on rearranging things, because we went from a side-by-side (which I loved, but couldn’t find one the right size for our kitchen) to a top freezer version. Needless to say, I’m pooped!

    1. Thank you Charlotte,
I’m liking this one very much too! It’s nice when that happens!
Oh, the thrill of a new refrigerator!! That’s “almost” as exciting as getting a new sewing machine….but NOT quite!
      :o)
      Thanks Charlotte

  2. What a lovely dress and the petticoat is great. I don’t think I’ve seen one quite like it before. Maybe you could make one or two for your Etsy site. You seem to just whip these things out with no problem when it would take me forever! The collars always lie so nicely on your dresses.

    1. Hi Susette,
It’s funny you should comment on the crinoline. I might have to make another one
..this dress needs to be held out a little higher and really should be a little fuller at the bottom for the lace to lay better.
Thanks so much for your kind compliments..
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. This dress is perfect for the fall in color. I love the blend of the plaid. The crisp white collar accents well with the darker colors of the dress. Very nice and very much something I’d expect to see in that era. It looks lovely on Addy. The lace is such a nice touch with the buttons down the front.
    Another dreamy outfit, Jeanne.

    1. Thank you Paula,
It DOES look very Fall-like, doesn’t it?
Thank you for your wonderful compliments on this one. I’m glad you like it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. Stunning dress, Jeanne….your works are always so creatively done and well done. I always enjoy reading your life and work.

    Blessings.

    1. Hi Becky,
I was wondering about you last night…hadn’t heard from you for a while. I hope everything is going okay…
Thank you for your encouraging words…always!! :o)
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. Love the dress on Addy and the front details. Perhaps, there are enough scraps left to make a patched simple large floppy bow to accent the back of her hair? Would be so cute.
Lucky us, they only turned off the power to those in the hills out of town and in the next county. Not sure why they even did that as we had no wind at all. We often have those hot windy days here in the fall, but not the extremely high winds like we had with the horrible fires of 2017. But then, I don’t own the power switch rights or have the ability to made the switch decision. It is nice and cool this morning with the windows open and is supposed to be the last hot day and then way cooler tomorrow. 🙂
Don’t know if anyone saw my mention of flu shots yesterday, but they are available now so hopefully, everyone gets one soon. 🙂
I cut out a new dress for my 16″ Stella May Meadow girl. Kind of a different pattern. We’ll see how it goes.

    1. Hi Joy,
I’m not sure I can make anything from these few scraps. Maybe a fringed flower, but that’s probably all.
My mom had received a notice in the mail about getting a pneumonia AND flu shot. I got on it today, signed it and took it to where shes at. Thanks for the “reminder”…and to Susette too…I think she started it.

I bet Stella May is REALLY excited about getting a new dress. I hope it’s going well…

  6. Addy’s outfit is going to be beautiful. I really love the fabric. I miss sewing when I’m on vacation. Our trips are mainly dual purpose: getting out of the Texas heat and trying to find some property here so we can permanently get out of the Texas heat. When we’re not walking property there is a lot of down time. David reads, he can do it for hours. I love to read but need something more creative to do. I brought my crochet but it’s a new project and I need to review the instructions before I start. We usually go to the park and read and crochet but it is a bit coolish where the seating areas are. Perhaps I should buy a small sewing machine to take on vacation. Yesterday we did go to Grand Junction to take David’s laptop to the Geek Squad. Our repair plan works everywhere which was good to know. We finished the day with dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Love that place!

One of the things I’m going to try to do while I’m here is visit the local museum – again. It’s fantastic. The area is a huge apple and peach, and some other things, growing area. One reason why we started coming here instead of Gunnison was for the fruit. The museum is a history of the fruit growing industry here. Anyone who loves period clothing would love to see the pictures of the women working in their long dresses doing the sorting and shipping. But the reason I’m really telling you all of this is that they also have the most amazing doll building. That is why I want to go again. I wasn’t collecting dolls much the last time I went but I will try to go again and take some pictures to send for Jeanne to share sometime when she needs a day off.

    1. Hi Barbara,
Maybe you could take lots of fabric with you on vacation and do some cutting out. I did that one time when we went somewhere. I cut out 12 doll coats!!
Yes, do send me those do pictures sometime…sounds like a fun place to visit…have fun!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Beautiful colors for a crisp fall day, Jeanne! I love the pretty white collar, the black lace and sweet little buttons dancing down the front! Addy will look just wonderful when we see the whole outfit!

The picture where you are holding those thin scraps of fabric made me think of a pretty bow on a smart little straw hat! Maybe that would work for this dress. She could be going to the market with a basket or something.

Love the pretty petticoat that will hold the skirt out so well. Like Susette says, you seem to be able to whip those up in nothing flat!

I went to Hobby Lobby today to pick up some things, and can’t believe how many. Christmas items are now there! I haven’t gone there since June, due to my knee replacement, and what a difference a few months make!

    1. Thank you Linda
This was the perfect fabric to use for my first Fall dress…and Addy was the perfect model for it.
A bow is probably all that I’ll be able to get from those scraps and it will probably have to be one layer with fringed edges.
My hubby went in Walmart thd other day and was flabbergasted that they had so much Christmas stuff out…I didn’t tell him Hobby Lobby has had their Christmas stuff out since July.
      Blessings ,Jeanne

  8. You did squeak a dress out of that fabric and to get the plaids to match on top of it was quite a feat! It’s going to be beautiful! I was sewing buttons and snaps on a cute antique dolls outfit and it always amazes me how long it takes ! When it Buttons down the front no mater what I always need to resew at least one. Maybe just a hint of the plaid in whatever you decide for her hair ? It would be sweet.

    1. Hi Kathie,
“Squeaking out” a dress was exactly what happened with dress. I knew it was going to be close, but I didn’t expect it to be that close.

With just those few scraps it will be interesting to see what I can come up with for her hair…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Dear Jeanne, the dress is pretty. The slip is amazing! I vote for simple ribbons for Addy’s hair. I can see her Mama tying them on her braids. I think you could add a “going to market” basket as an accessory.

I recently got the Addy Scenes and Settings book. I know that AG made it for children but it is wonderful also for us adult collectors as a backdrop for photos.

    1. H Doroyhy
It might have to “ribbons” for Addys hair… I’m not sure I can make anything from these tiny scraps.
      …a basket I can do!!!

I used to have Addy’s Scenes and setting book. I LOVED her Mama’s sewing room. Your excitement about getting the book makes me wish I still had mine…silly me for selling it…
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne
