Emmie in “Under Blue Skies”

Laura suggested the title “Under Blue Skies” the other day for Noel’s dress, but I had already decided on “Spring into Summer” from Marilyn. However, I thought Under Blue Skies might work for Emmie’s dress… now if the weather will cooperate and I can get outside to take some pictures. I think it will… it’s actually supposed to be in the 80’s for the next 2 weeks… Summer HAS arrived!

Saturday was the only day I had to sew on Emmie’s dress, and as you can see, I did as several of you suggested…used more of the floral fabric and less of the check.

I thought I was going to make a shorter top with maybe a 3 tiered skirt that had frayed edges…but I’m just a sucker for dresses, so I made it longer with the band of checks at the hem. I was already planning to add the piping at the waist as some of you suggested, so we were on the same page with that one…

The fabric for this dress has enough body to stand out on its own without the need for a slip… see it just regular…

…and then if you take your hands and “pouf” it out a bit…

I do love the sweet look of pantalettes under dresses so I went with them…this time making them with a cuff at the ankles.

I still have to do the embellishing on her dress, but that’s the most fun part. Will it have buttons, or a tiny applique or an accent at the waist, or ribbons tied somewhere, or some handwork?

Who knows…you’ll have to come back and see…. :o)

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, yes, the blue check is so nice with the floral! And just enough, so it accents rather than overpowers the delicate floral. Sometimes it can be a fine balance!!

I like the little bloomers, too. Can’t wait to see what else you add to complete the outfit!

  2. Oh, that is just perfect, Jeanne! I knew you would decide on the best way to incorporate the check with the pretty floral! I love it! And the sweet little flowered bloomers peeking out below the checked part of the skirt is just darling, and a surprise! I can’t wait to see what is next for this adorable outfit!

I am a bit confused as to who this doll is. You say it is Emmie, but it looks a lot like Isabelle. Are they one and the same, or two different dolls? They look pretty much alike to me, but of course, they aren’t side by side.

Another note here, especially for Charlotte. I made half the recipe of the Country Egg Casserole this weekend, and an 8 ounce package of John Morrell Diced Ham worked out perfectly, so you would need two of those packages to make it in the 12×13 inch size. The package is reclosable, so if you feel it is too much, you can always store the extra. Just make sure it is diced ham, not cubed ham.

I’m looking forward to a pretty day today, but hopefully, not so much wind!!!

  3. What a lovely dress you’ve made, Jeanne. Your ensembles always look so beautiful. I too think that the amount of checked material you have at the base of the skirt is just right…as well as having added the piping of it around the waist. It’s so great to see you being able to sew again although the help you gave your mom and hospitality to family members is stellar.

    Blessings.

  4. Yes! Emmie looks perfectly demure in this wonderful ensemble. Love the bias checks at the waist and border. Can’t wait to see the embellishments. Glad your weather is cooperating too. Here, not so much. Rained again yesterday and more due in this week. This morning, we are fogged in right down to the ground.
    Happy week ahead. 🙂

  5. Happy Monday! You did the perfect combination of those fabrics. Piping is my favorite accent. It’s just the right touch for now… well into Spring and not quite Summer!

Dear Jeanne, Emmie is a vision in spring colors.

I had a great dolly weekend. My doll club (UFDC) had so much fun at the Harrisburg Doll Museum on Saturday. The owner is a wonderful lady. Her mother used to be the local doll doctor. She has beautiful dolls in the gift shop. Someone found a little Lenci doll in the bargin bin. Last time I was there I found a Julie Good Kruger doll for a very reasonable price.

Doll Club met on Sunday. One of our members discussed Shirley Temple lookalike dolls. She had many lovely ones. I had no idea that so many had been made.

Sorry, I didn’t take any photographs on either day.

World Doll Day is coming up on Saturday, June 8. I am going to celebrate by giving away a doll at our June doll club meeting.

What a wonderful day you had, Dorothy!! And lucky you, about the Julie Good-Kruger doll you found the previous visit! I have several of her dolls, mostly the 16″ vinyl, but I also have Marshmallow (multi-jointed toddler body) and one of her very lovely 22″ vinyls, also.

Which one did you get? Vinyl or porcelain?

  7. My tastes are very eclectic and there are very few things I don’t like, especially when it comes to clothes – mine and dolls. My fun is in seeing what you come up with. I know I’m going to like it whatever it is. I love borders in contrasting fabric. And I’m crazy about piping and use it a lot on children’s clothes. Looking forward to seeing the embellishments.

I thought at first that the bloomers had elastic at the bottom, but you said cuffs. Unknowingly you helped me with a dilemma I have. I bought a beautiful pair of flowered pants with a border at the bottom. Problem is they’re about two inches too long. I think I’m shrinking because they’re only 31″, my used to be inseam. I thought of putting elastic in the bottom which would be cute, but while a cuff won’t work because I would have to cut the fabric and it would ruin the border look, I thought maybe I could make a side pleat and fasten it in some way to tighten the bottom. Not sure exactly how yet because I need to get my foot through, but the pants are stretchy. It would make the pant legs look fuller but not by much since they are full leg anyway, and it would work fine for the fabric. Right now it seems anything goes in pants, so either would work and I wouldn’t be doing anything that couldn’t be undone.

I think the title for your new ensemble would work fine. Very hot and humid here now with little rain in sight. When I lived in PA I loved summer. Not so much here.

  8. Once again you came up with a wonderful design for her dress. I love the piping and the gingham border. It’s just perfect and showcases the floral without overpowering it. I can’t wait to see how you decide to finish the outfit. So adorable.

  9. That was worth waiting for, though the wait was short. What a really cute dress in a very special print. Now we need about 6 possible titles for spring outfits. Let’s see — No Rain Today– Forever Sunshine — Summer Skies? I’m now suddenly impatient for another Addy at the Fair dress, though Fairs are later in the season.
It’s rainy and cold today, which may give us some of the nicest weather in the nation. The weather reports don’t look good. I hope no one today has worse weather than mine.

  10. I thought I’d post my comments here in one spot as we are heading to a picnic/cookout for Alba, Edgar and Sara. I made corn casserole and oatmeal raisin cookies for my part…

I haven’t been in my sewing room yet today, but I’m holding out hope that maybe I’ll find some time later…

We have a sunny day today but no picture taking from me…

I’m glad everyone likes what I’ve done with the dress so far…
    thanks… gotta run
    Blessings, Jeanne

    1. I just tried your search engine, and it no longer works like before. It has categories and then gives way too many items in the category selected. Like Dresses. I was going to look up the egg casserole recipe and got many instead of one.

      1. Never mind. I somehow didn’t see the first search box and thought the categories was it. Sorry.

  11. I really like the soft floral with the tiny blue check. Of course, the checked piping at the waist is a perfect touch. I can’t wait to see how you decide to embellish it. Have fun at the cookout! I can only imagine how difficult it will be to say goodbye to that sweet family.
