I need one more day, but here’s something to hold you till then…

Today was a better day… I got dressed and combed my hair! :o) Aren’t you glad? I sure was. Still a bit cruddy but I hope tomorrow things will be even better… maybe I’ll get dressed, comb my hair and COOK something! I haven’t even stepped foot in my sewing room for 3 days but maybe tomorrow I’ll go check on my girls and see if things are okay with them. :o)

SO… that brings us to today’s post… it will have to be from the archives… I’ll try to mix it up again and hope you find something fun to look at. Click on the words above the pictures to get to that post.

Hope you are feeling so much better by the time you read this, Jeanne!

I particularly enjoyed the article about old doll magazines–I have plenty, and should go down and look at them again-_I’m sure I’d find lots of sewing inspiration, too!!

I made a little progress on Mariko’s Easter dress today, using one of your bodice embellishment ideas as a place to start. Thanks again for sharing that article once more.

    1. HI Charlotte 20% Trayer….I still don’t know what that 20% stuff is all about but just wanted to play with you a bit… I did that!
      I am better today…not 100% better but maybe “20%” :o)

I hope you found some inspiration in your doll magazines… they can be very inspiring to me! Hope they are for you too!
I hope you had a chance to do more sewing today.. not me so far…but maybe after dinner.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. I’m so happy to hear that you are feeling better, Jeanne! I missed commenting yesterday, since I have really been busy, and am expecting out of town company today. I have been cleaning, and am almost halfway finished decorating for Easter, but won’t get it all done before company comes, that’s for sure!

I really enjoyed reading your articles, and loved the one about the little purses. I always try to have my dolls holding a purse, and have quite a collection now, but none as cute as yours! It’s the little things that go with a dress that make it look real and special. Details matter!!

I also loved the renovation of the pretty little antique shelf/table. I remember it well, and you also had pictures of your bathroom remodel on AGPT. It’s a really pretty blue, isn’t it? That has stayed with me in my memories, of all things!!

I do need to get going, since company will be here in mid-morning, and I still have things to do, you know, those last minute things that we all see only when company comes!!

I hope you feel better by tomorrow, or today!!

    1. Hi Linda,
I hope you got your cleaning AND decorating done and I hope you enjoy your company!

I like to see dolls with purses too… and little girls carrying purses just as much! Always puts a smile on my face!

I hope by tomorrow this sinus thing will be a thing of the past! I did send you an email about Rebecca’s Movie dress…but I’m wondering if you got it…??
      Have fun Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. So funny reading yesterday’s blog and everyone wondering why they have 20% by their name. I was wondering the same thing! I thought it was just my computer, but I guess not!

  4. Loved the little snippets yesterday and today. Fun.
Interesting, but the %20 in between the first and last names/initial even appears on the posts from the past. Humm, didn’t see it by my name but then I don’t have a last initial or name. Maybe that is a clue.
The old doll magazines just reminded me that I have most of the Mary Engelbreit magazines around here somewhere. I used to love that magazine before its demise. Might be time to take another look.
Glad you’re on the road to recovery.

    1. HI Joy,
Your guess about the 20% mystery is as good as mine… I haven’t heard back from Sarah about what’s going on, so we wait…at least the comments are going through. It would be awful if no one could comment… that would be frustrating.
Oh, ME magazines would be FUN to look through. You’ll have to show us if you find anything really fun!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. While I prefer your regular column, this is an excellent alternative. It gives me columns to read on and off all day. Great idea. Like Linda, I remember the antique shelf. The doll magazine pictures were wonderful. Several of those would make great outfits. You’ll have to make an entry of inspirations followed by outfits, or outfits and their inspirations.

I hope you are better by the hour and by tonight can enjoy dinner.

    1. HI Marilyn,
Sorry about the “alternative” posts the last few days but I thought they were better than nothing. :o)
I’m hoping to “MAKE” dinner tonight… that would be a great start! :o)
      Thanks for your well wishes!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I do hope you’re back to normal (and sewing) soon, but I am totally enjoying seeing the old blog posts. It’s kind of catch-up for me.

I’m a latecomer to doll collecting and dolly dressmaking. I did a lot of designing and sewing for my dolls when I was little, but then sewed most of my own clothes for years so the dolly sewing got put aside. Then I had my children and did a lot of sewing for them. My daughter did not play with dolls much, so I did not do any dolly sewing for her, except for a matching Easter dress for her Cabbage Patch doll one year, and she never wanted an American Girl doll. After years of looking at and loving the 18″ doll clothes patterns, I finally bought my MA doll. Then I started collecting dolls and sewing for them. Bottom line is I’m still in “learning mode” on the doll thing and didn’t even realize doll magazines were out there until recently so I don’t have a collection. Got lots of sewing, crochet, plastic canvas, etc., magazines but not a dolly one to my name.

I love the purse blog. I’m terrible about making accessories for my doll outfits, except maybe a hair ornament now and then. You are so clever with this and I loved them all. I love the antique shelf/table. Very nicely done.

I had a hemostat. I think I loaned it to my hubby once and I can’t seem to find it anymore. Really need to get another one. Another thing I find useful for small sewing is the long tweezer I got with my serger. I use if for a lot, but one of the things I find it useful for is hanging on to the two pieces of fabric when I reach he end of sewing a seam and have to remove the final pin. One side tends to slip so I grab it with the end of the tweezers, and since they are so slender at the end, they don’t get in the way and I can sew to the end. I could baste, but I would have to do this for every seam and this is quicker.

Sounds like you are on the mend and improving daily. So glad! If you get back to cooking, you’ll know you’re in a good place. If you can stand long enough to do that and have an appetite to eat it, you’re good to go.

    1. HI Barbara,
I’m glad you are catching up on some of my first posts… back in 2014 and 15… I never would have dreamed I’d still be almost 5 years later. I LOVE it! Glad you do too!

I guess you could say I got a late start on the dolls too.. .I had a sewing business since 1989..and did sewing for people before that… but it wasn’t until 2001 that I started selling on Ebay… my boutique designed overalls and shortalls, but then my doll dresses started selling on Ebay in 2006. The rest has been history. It’s been the prefect fit for me…

I have a pair of long tweezers too and use them from time to time, but not as much as I do the hemostats. They are such a life saver on tiny doll bodices!

I’ve been sitting here typing comments and wondering what I might make for dinner at the same time… hmmm… still don’t know yet, but I’ll find something .
      Thanks Barbara,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Glad to know you are resting and taking good care of yourself. Hope you feel better each day.
I’m enjoying your posts. You are so considerate of us.
    Blessings!

    1. HI Paula,
Thanks so much for sticking around when I’m not really at the helm… except in spirit only… Not too much excitement on this end… but I did put my clothes on again today and feel better. I’m hoping tomorrow is my best day yet…since last Sunday!
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Dear Jeanne, hello. I hope you are feeling better. Do take care of yourself.
Thanks for the pretty items to review.
I enjoyed looking at the magazine covers. I noticed the name of Chris Miller. As you know, she was with the Pittsburgh Originals, which made dolls a while back. She still makes doll clothing.
I also noticed an Adora doll. I have one and she is a very cherished little girl.
Here is something to make you smile. There are only 41 days until May!!!

    1. HI Dorothy,
I did not know who Chris Miller was, but now I do! Thanks! I get these magazines out every once in a while and look for an idea… and I usually find one! :o)
I don’t know anything about the Adora dolls either… you know about all the dollies!!! :o)
Only 41 days till May… but Spring started YESTERDAY!!! YAY!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. So glad that you are feeling much better. Spring came in beautifully yesterday… some sunshine to boot. I can hardly wait until the days are warm consistently again.
Love that little whatnot shelf. I would have definitely snagged that one as well.
Those purses are so cute. A cute purse is a most necessary accessory.

    1. HI Laura,
Yes, I too, am ready for the days to be warm and stay warm too! I’m looking forward to this Spring like I haven’t been for a few years… I think this winter has been long and hard!
I’m glad you found something fun in the post today…
      Blessings, Jeanne
