TWO Surprises for Ten Ping

Thank you to the buyer of Felicity’s Fall Favorite dress set. I appreciate your winning bid! :o)

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! We did… it turned cooler… almost cold if you thought about it, but we managed to get several things done! We sold 25 Old German Owls and have 23 left. They have been like “rabbits”…if you know what I mean!! :o) My hubby is separating the boys from the girls until early Spring… to cut down on babies being born in the winter months!

I made some chicken noodle soup and a few pairs of shoes for Navi… sorry… I had to. I cleaned my house…in each and every room! YAY! I took my mom to town and we had lunch at Panera’s… Their broccoli cheddar soup is great with those baguettes! We even went to the Goodwill and looked around. (That’s where I found the “surprise” for today!)

Below is a “commercial break!”

My hubby stopped at a yard sale on the way home from town a few days ago and found this Bombay chest for $5.00! I think I’m going to paint it. It’s not really farmhouse, but Cindy said it was Cottagey…so I’m keeping it for now… I’ll paint it (right after I get my cabinets finished! Yeah..right!) I had to scrub it out on the inside because it had cobwebs.

I told you I’d show you what I bought for Ten Ping at the Goodwill… It’s a fun prop and it works for several of my girls… Ten Ping, Noel, Patsy and Trixie and maybe even the Little Darlings… I didn’t try them. Even little Navi might be able to use it… if I told the story line right. :o)

So here is it… Ten Ping’s first surprise…a fun resin piece shaped into a vanity and stool.

The accessories are already on the vanity… brush, comb, mirror, etc… I thought it was cute and Ten Ping likes it too.

It seemed that most everyone liked the black and aqua print best from the fabrics I showed you… so Ten Ping’s second surprise is getting to model for you and show you how much I finished on her new dress.

Her dress has some tiny microcheck fabric as the band at the bottom and I also added some piping around the waist. Ten Ping DOES look sweet in this fabric… you’ll have to wait and see how I finish it…

Here’s hoping you have a great Monday!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

How thoughtful of your husband, to get that Bombay chest for you. It looks like it might be made of bamboo!!

Oh, that little dressing table is just adorable! It looks like Ten Ping will have to grow a bit more for it to really “fit” her–or maybe it belongs to her mommy or her big sister?!

I love the microcheck you used for the accents on her dress, Jeanne. It’s just the perfect color!! I can’t wait to see what else you make for her!

    1. HI Charlotte,
The chest IS bamboo..you were right. I haven’t had any time to fuss with it yet…
I think I’m going to let it be her mom’s..since she’s just a little bit too short to see in the mirror…
I used the same aqua microcheck for Ten Ping”s dress as I used on Bitty Bethany”s dress years ago. I’m glad you like it.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. The chest is beautiful, Jeanne! I was wondering how big it is, since I see it sitting by your fireplace and it looks like a fairly good size. George really knows his stuff!!

Oh, how sweet the little dressing table is! I see some of her mother’s lipstick has been opened and I sure hope she doesn’t get any on her new dress! The dress is just adorable, and I can’t wait to see what comes next! I was surprised to see the back of Ten Ping’s hair, where you have some little braids clipped up. I had no idea she had braids! Have you let them down or even combed her hair? I have no idea what her hair is like. I have an 8 inch Betsy McCall whose hair is not brushable, and then a 14 inch one whose hair is.

We are off to a frosty start of the week, aren’t we? Where are those lovely, warm ,sunny, fall days with pretty colored leaves?

    1. HI Linda,
The chest is pretty substantial…it’s 31″ long, 20″ wide and 19″ deep. I still haven’t done anything with it yet or figured out where I’m going to put it….maybe I’ll leave it where it is…

I thought the vanity was a cute prop and Ten Ping was especially happy when I showed it to her.
Yes, Ten Ping has braids in her hair…they were tied up on the sides…like Kristen are when she comes new…
I’ve never unbraided them…they are mohair and I’m not sure what they’d do if I undid them…maybe I should try…
Someone told me this morning we might not get any pretty leaves this year…they might just die and fall off…I’ll be disappointed if they do…

It’s pretty chilly out there this morning…
      Thanks so much,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. That’s an amazingly detailed resin piece, right down to the Tien Tsin carpet texture and the tiny lipstick. I can’t imagine how flexible the mold for this must have been. What a wonderful find. I love bamboo pieces so I’m hoping it remains its natural color, just sprayed with clear acrylic, so it will show up in contrast to your white fireplace? What would Cindy think?

Where do you find that tiny a check for Ten Ping’s dress? You must have made the tiny piping at the waist. I didn’t realize Ten Ping’s braids were double under the ribbon. I never mess with the hair on my dolls as I’m the least adept person on earth with hair, my own included.

    1. HI Susette,
My eye went straight to that resin piece when I saw it on the shelf at Goodwill. I think I’ll get $6 worth of use out of it.
I haven’t decided anything about the chest yet…and I don’t even know where I’ll put it, but I’ll decide one of these days…
You can find the microcheck fabric on Ebay…in lots of different colors. Yes, I did make the piping by cutting a piece of it on the bias…the same thing on the hem of her skirt. When it’s cut on the bias you don’t have to worry about sewing it on straight, keeping the lines straight…it’s much easier…you just have to watch that you don’t stretch it when you sew it on…
Linda didn’t realize Ten Ping had braids either. I think there are about 22 versions or “editions” of Ten Ping and the one I bought just so happened to have her hair like this…she did have those wispy bangs either…I pulled some hairs down and cut them.
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. How cute and perfect for Ten Ping!! What a find. She looks so cute sitting on the stool. And the items on the vanity are fun.
I like your Bombay chest too. Two nice finds.

I am so happy the cooler weather is coming our way. This summer has been too hot and humid. Fall is a wonderful season.

    1. HI Paula,
I’m glad you like my finds this week… it’s sort of nice having the “accessories” already laid out on the vanity… I like the piece too.
It’s been much cooler here too…use in the 40’s today. I hope we have Fall and don’t go straight into winter…I want to see the pretty leaves on the trees.
      Thanks Paula,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. That Bombay chest is quite a find. It has been tugging on my mind as I read the comments. To paint or not? I’m sure what you decide will be right, but my first thought was black. I love a black accent in every room. And then second, that cool cottage blue like Cindy’s cabinet. Maybe with some of the original brown peeking through. And I think I would put fabric inside depending on the final color choice. Maybe a stripe or check. Then it would be a fun place to display things for various holidays. Like presents at Christmas or a vase with fall floral.
Little Ten Ping’s outfit is lovely. Very pretty on her.
The little thrift find will be a fun touch for your photos. After seeing your finds, I’m getting the bug to thrift shop too. Not good as I just purchased of all things, a snail, on ebay. Like we need any more items in this place, but I have something in mind. 🙂
High winds last night and dry conditions, so our CA power company decided to turn off the power in the most affected places so there wouldn’t be sparking and possible fires. Crazy. Now people with wells won’t have water to fight a fire if one occurred. Even though our lines are in the affected areas, they didn’t turn our in town area off, fortunately. We have had occasional high winds for fifty years and did not have fires. Only the freak fire storm of last year. Progress. Beats me.
Looking forward to seeing little Ten Ping’s accessories.

    1. HI Joy,
It does seem like you were thinking about the Bombay chest quite a bit…I’m still trying to figure out what to do with it…it’s a pretty good size chest and I know what you mean about running out of room…yikes!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

It sounds awful to think that your power was turned off to prevent fires…it must be nerve racking to live with the thought of fires all the time…

  6. What a wonderful surprise for us too! I have Ten Ping’s cousin Ishara so any outfits for Ten Ping catch my eye, can’t wait to see the rest that you have planned. The vanity is adorable and is a perfect size. The Bombay chest is such a find! The one thing I might think about is having your hubby cut a thin piece of plywood to inset on the top, making it easier to set things on or even stencil or something. But that would keep the lovely character while making using the top for “stuff” more practical.
Somehow I never got the post for choosing Ten Ping’s outfit fabric ?. I’ll need to look for it, thanks so much for brightening our morning coffee!
    Dorothy

    1. HI Dorothy,
OH I wanted the first Isara doll so badly…the one called the Guardian of Fortune, I think…one of the kindergarten kids. I searched the entire planet for her and fond NE from someone, but they wanted $350 for her and so I passed.
I was thrilled when Lana Dobbs painted Ten Ping…I used Ishara eyes to show Lana how I wanted them.
I thought about using a tray on the top of the chest to make it flat…it’s actually not to uneven on top…I think a coaster would work to keep a glass upright.
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Dear Jeanne, Ten Ping looks adorable in her new dress.
I love the dressing table. It is perfect for her. The photographs make her look so cute.
I can just see her twirling in front of the mirror.

    1. Thank you Dorothy,
I’ve made lots of progress today so you’ll be pleased when you see Ten Ping again!!!
She is a fun little doll to make clothes for.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Jeanne How cute! The dressing table is perfect for Ten Ping and she looks adorable in her new dress. The print is just right for her. That chest is a nice find. Can’t wait to see what color you paint it, the options are endless.

    1. Thanks Carole,
I do like the sweet vanity and think it will be fun to use. Ten Ping can’t wait to get pictures taken using it!!
My sister Cindy was sending me lots of pictures today of bamboo and wicker chests painted different colors…so many choices!!!
      Thanks Carole,
      Blessings, Jeanne
