No sewing… just sharing…

I don’t know where my time has gone the last 2 days but I haven’t been in my sewing room once since I worked on Rebecca’s dress. She’s still standing on my cutting table just like she was 2 nights ago. I’ll get back to the Civil War dress soon… promise.

Since I don’t have any sewing news, I thought I’d just share some things with you…

A friend gave me these beautiful flowers from her garden. They are actually in 2 different little vases and I put them together in this basket. They are sitting on my table and I love seeing them.

I discovered today that my mom’s cell phone wasn’t working… no sound…and even the guy at Best Buy couldn’t get it to work. So I had to find her a new one… I did… and spent a while (because I’m not techy like my kids) getting it activated and all set up.

On my way home, as I was driving through town, look what I saw…

Our Pastor has just been out to our house for a visit and we were discussing “tube” or “shelf” clouds…and look what was hanging over Carbondale!

I don’t normally use my phone at all when I’m driving, but being as careful as I could, I snapped a few pictures to show my hubby when I got home, since we had just been talking about the clouds when they look like this… We had quite the storm go by, but fortunately the worst of it missed us by a few miles! Thank goodness! It was pretty creepy looking…

In other fun news, I won a lot of oil rubbed handles for my kitchen cabinets. They were from a seller on Ebay and had actually NOT sold, so I contacted the seller and asked her if she’d consider my offer… she did! I got 47 pre-owned, but in excellent condition, handles, for .89 cents each. I was thrilled! I’m going to put the handles on the drawers and the knobs that Cindy found me in PA, on the doors.

Here they are together! Do you like them?

A while back I got the most glorious picture of Susette’s orchid! Isn’t it beautiful? I think that California sun, along with Susette’s help, really makes gorgeous flowers! Thanks Susette!

This is a picture of some sweet outfits Joy made for her girls as she has been sewing up a storm with Wren Feathers Sew Along. Nicely done, Joy!

I also got a picture of a doll rug that Joy made using plastic canvas and embroidery floss! She’s waiting for floss to go on sale at Joann Fabric’s so she can make another rug! :o) I bet your dolls love it! ( I tried everything to get your picture to load, but it refused! Sorry!

Well, that’s it for today’s sharing session… hope you found something to make you smile!

See you when I can,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Fun post today, Jeanne! What a picker-upper the pretty flowers are in the basket! They certainly must be bringing sunshine to your home, if the real sun doesn’t!

Those clouds look just like what we have been looking at for the past few days here in St. Louis. Did you ever have so much rain as we have been having,on and off just about all day yesterday? The ballgames have been starting an hour and half later than normal here for the past two days! The grass needs mowing, but is way too wet! I even think some of my flowers are drowning!

Love Joy’s darling pictures of her little crew! Love the two little ones, smiling so happily, probably because they don’t have to wear shoes!?

As always, Susette’s flowers are gorgeous! I love the sneak peek of her beautiful kitchen too! Beautiful, Susette!

    1. Oh goodness, I completely forgot to mention the beautiful knobs and handles! They are a perfect match and will look wonderful on the white cabinets! Kind of like jewelry for the cabinets!

      1. HI Linda,
The weather has been strange hasn’t it? We can’t get our grass mowed either…but this afternoon it’s actually pretty nice!

I’m glad you liked my new handles…I can’t wait to see them n my caninets…I’m itching to paint…soon!!!

Thank you too, for George’s card! That was just so cute! He loved it!!! Me too!
        Thanks Linda,
        Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Love the flowers and how you have them displayed in that great basket. The photo could be on the cover of Country Living. 🙂
Glad you were able to fix the cell phone problem. I really need to update my vintage model, but I haven’t wanted to spend the time or the learning curve. Guess I should put that on “the list.” Does your mom like the new one?
I think those handles/knobs are perfect. I’m trying to picture them on the painted cabinets. You’re still going to paint them white? They will definitely be a wow factor.
Your photos from the car, bad girl, are quite amazing. I have never seen weather like that. And by the way, where is the traffic?? Out here in the north bay area, we are regularly bumper to bumper on any highway.
Susette must have the orchid touch, it is spectacular, because I have a sad little one on my kitchen counter that has never grown much or re-bloomed. 🙁
My two little shoe less girls are wearing a beach romper under their reversible skirts, so they are ready to dig their tiny toes into some sand. Thanks Jeanne for sharing my summer sewing photo. Don’t know why the rug photo wouldn’t load. Attached as usual. Oh well, I’m trying to figure out what size to make the next one. I want it to fit in the living room of the house of the dolls.
Hope you are able to take a few minutes and sit on your lovely porch for a few minutes and enjoy that beautiful green yard.
    Happy summer everyone.

    1. HI Joy,
I like my little flowers in the basket too and will be sad when they shrivel up… 😮 (
I’m taking my mom’s phone to her this evening. I hope she likes it…it’s a Jitterbug and is supposed to be very simple to use.
I hope my cabinet handles and knobs look as pretty as I imagine they will. I guess we’ll see.

Weren’t those clouds incredible? I was being very careful and probably would have pulled over to the side if there had been more traffic.

No porch sitting today but maybe someday…
      Blessings, Jeanne

      1. My step mother had a Jitterbug and absolutely loved it. Was very easy to use and she could actually hear conversations. 🙂

        1. Thanks Joy,
I never made it over to my mom’s this afternoon…maybe tomorrow. I hope my mom likes this one too…
          Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Wow, i actually am seeing the post early in the day! I usually don’t get to my computer until later.
What beautiful flowers your friend gave to you, Jeanne. They are sure to brightened up your home. The sunflowers are so cheery as well as the zinnias, phlox and others. I love the gooseneck loosestrife (white curved blooms) . Mine are just starting to bloom. I have a patch of them that comes up in from of the Solomon’s seal after that finishes. The loosestrife is always in full display by the 4th of July.
What unusual clouds. Naughty, naughty LOL to take pictures while driving, but I wouldn’t have wanted to miss them either. We’ve had quite a bit of rain to help things grow. Yesterday, the sky was pretty weird before the storm, too. At the front of the house there was sunshine and white clouds and out the back (south) the sky was pure dark gray. I finished gathering up a few things, fed the fish, and headed in. The rain started a minute thereafter.
Your new kitchen handles and knobs are really nice. Looks like the kitchen is coming down the home stretch.
Susette, your orchid is lovely in it’s Blue Willow bowl and the little hedgehog is so cute.
Joy, your dolls look darling in their new outfits. You did a fantastic job on them. I agree, that some summer doll clothes looks better with bare feet.

    1. HI Laura,
I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures in my post today. Sometimes it’s fun to just share odd and end posts…
Thanks for the names of the flowers…I like the tall white ones too.
I can’t wait to get my cabinets painted to see what my new handles will look like next to the white paint.
A few more things have to be settled and then maybe I can start priming.
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. I know you are anxious to get some sewing done, but I’m glad you were able to share anyway. The flowers your neighbor gave you are certainly beautiful. She must have a lovely garden.
I like the handles you got from eBay, and they will be perfect with the knobs.
Also, thanks to Susette and Joy for sharing their pictures. The orchid and the doll clothes are all just beautiful!

    1. HI Carolyn,
The flowers are really pretty and I’m certainly enjoying them on my dining room table.
The lady who gave them to me has a nice flower garden with all kinds and it’s really pretty. She has a part of her kitchen set aside to make all her arrangements. Then she gives them all away.
I’m glad you enjoyed today’s pictutes.
      Blessings, Jeanne

I’m late to posting because I wasn’t on the computer much last night–I was in a motel room up in Mt. Vernon (Wash.), and had to get to bed early! This morning I judged needlework for the Wash. State Grange convention that was held at their fairgrounds. The best part was, I ran into one of my college friends, Helen, who I hadn’t seen in several years!! I used to see her at the Puyallup Sewing Expo every year, but they winter in AZ now, so she’s not here at that time of year. (BTW, I graduated from college 50 years ago come Dec.!!)

Anyway, I enjoyed your post today–the flowers are lovely, the tube clouds pictures were impressive, and Susette’s orchid is lovely (I’ll have to send you a picture of mine–it had 11 blossoms this year! I give it two ice cubes a week, per the directions, that’s all. I may have “fed” it once.) Joy’s girls are certainly looking happy in their new duds!!

Congratulations on getting those lovely knobs and handles!! I think they’ll be just gorgeous on your new cabinets!

    1. HI Charlotte,
It sounds like you had a really fun time with Helen and with your judging!
I should try your ice cube trick with a couple of my plants…it sounds pretty simple…
      Glad you enjoyed the post!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Oh, dear, I didn’t get the message until this morning and I checked several times yesterday for a new post. The basket of flowers is beautiful. It truly could be a magazine cover. You’re the champ on eBay with the handles that would sell for several dollars apiece! And to find so many matching ones! Always an interesting post

Joy’s dolls look darling, and she sewed all of the clothes herself with all that’s going on with the house cleanout. Wow! The little guy with my orchid is actually a rabbit, but he is from Thailand, so maybe rabbits look like hedgehogs there. There is a tiger with two cubs on the stovetop. I did put some fertilizer on plants this year that was labeled for avocado and citrus and my garden really popped this year.

I did see clouds like that once while driving through Kansas. Another time we sat on the front porch, watching the dark clouds and wondering what the siren was about when we first moved to Dayton, Ohio, from Hawaii. We soon found out it was a tornado warning but in Hawaii it was a tsunami warning. Oh, dear!

    1. HI Susette,
I was hoping the quirks had worked themselves out of my random blog posts…guess not totally…
I found the cabinet handles on a site and they were listed at $2.99 a piece…so I was thrilled she accepted my offer!!…now to get some painting done…. :o)
Since those strange clouds moved through we’ve had rain and today it’s dreadfully hot and humid. The temp is 87 but the humidity is 74% and the heat index is 102 degrees.
We were over at my mom’s seeing what needed to be done before we put her house on the market.
      Thanks Susette,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Love the flowers…zinnias are always so colorful and are the tall white ones her Hostas blooming? They look so pretty.
Your drawer pulls are an awesome match…that will be a project to put them all on.
Orchids are such a treasure…in fact the one I have started blooming on Valentines Day and it just dropped it’s last flower this week! Isn’t that the best!
Joy’s dolls are adorable…who are the sweet ones on the love seat?

    1. HI Kathie,
I’m loving those zinnias too…they still look good! I think Laura knew the, name of the talk white ones…I really like them!
Congrats on your “long bloomimg” orchid…it’s wonderful that it lasted so long…
I think Joys 2 dolls are named Patti and Tella….they are My Meadow dolls… I’m sure Joy can add more if she sees this…
      Thanks Kathie,
      Blessings, Jeanne
