Well, I will start.
First of all, I did reply to two or three comments yesterday, if you wish to look. Also Rosemary, your quilts are beautiful, and I love that peony block! I need to finish some more quilting UFOs before I start down another path, but it is sure tempting!!
Okay, I had my ASG (American Sewing Guild) neighborhood group meeting today, and I brought 11 dolls that I had made. (I’ve made more than 11, but have given a number of them away.) I was happy to see that those who attended (only 9 or 10 today–we often have 15 or so) were interested. Not everyone is a “doll person” of course (SHOCK!!!) but even those who weren’t were lovely and attentive. I didn’t get my pictures loaded onto my computer yet–it’s been a long day–but as soon as I do, I will send some to Jeanne so she can share.
At the end of my presentation, there were a number of questions, such as what kind of paint did I use on the faces, and what kind of “skin” fabric did I use, and so on. Then one lady, who is a retired librarian, started talking about a book she had recently read, written by someone who had purchased a cabin or cottage in New England, and some of the former resident’s things were still in it…and it turned out the former resident was Rachel Field. As soon as she said the name, I looked at her and said “Hitty!! I read that book as a child, and own a copy now, and even have a Robert Raikes Hitty doll!” Then there was a short conversation about the doll and her story (the book is Hitty, Her First 100 Years, if you are wondering). Finally I said, “You do realize, my minor was Library Science” and she looked at me and said, “We have to talk!” I didn’t get a chance this time, but I’ll bet at the next meeting, we will!
There are, or were, Hitty dolls and Hitty clothes and accessories on Etsy. She has quite a following. The Adelina Patti chapter — crowd behavior around a popular singer — still rings true, and that’s certainly the most detailed description of whale fishing I’ve ever seen. Chapters on minority or non-American populations are very out of date, but others are charming.

Thanks Charlotte. I went back and read from yesterday. Other person did fiddle around with the thing for some time which required me to stop my work and produce new batteries. Then, the flash didn’t work at all. Round and around he went. Finally, trying a second set of new batteries which worked perfectly. Who knows what he was doing while I was under the sink. 🙂
Well, another birthday down the road. It was a good one, and I appreciate Y’all’s blessings. Peyton had already given me my gift, a portable CD player….he can never wait until my birthday, but he did wait for my card and it is so sweet it brought tears to my eyes. We had a great lunch, and came home and had meringues with peaches. I found a big red box on the porch from my sons, (they take turns sending them every year), it was lovey flowers and a surprise to find also a box with 6 big chocolate strawberries in it too. The flowers were a bit sad looking because the box had been on the hot porch, but they are looking very happy this morning. Then I got nice calls from family. It was a lovely day.

Sweet happy Friday morning. I am up early… some builder people are coming early this morning so I am up. Hubbs is still sleeping but I will get Kitty Princess out of her paradise room right now and he will be up. 🥰 she meows a LOT… all the time.

Hi Rosemary, I just went back to yesterday’s post to see your flicker posts and WOW! Some really beautiful work. Also loved seeing the kitties and family too. (Notice kitties were first). As a non quilter I enjoyed seeing the design boards and how it all gets started. Can’t image having all that in your head, lol. The quilt that is diamond shapes with flowers in the centers makes me want to have a small one using silks or satins or regal metallic prints for a doll quilt for a princess and the pea doll display. Thank you so much for sharing, really fun.
Oh, that’s right, Anne. Maybe Rosemary can just give us the website instead, so we can order our own? Then we wouldn’t have to worry about compromising the copyright.
Thank you, Rosemary, for the offer. I am going to hold off for a bit, so I can see how much of my other stuff I can get finished, but will let you know when I’m ready! I am making progress on the top I started this week; might even have it finished in time to wear to church Sunday. We shall see!
I too really liked the peony pattern. My hands are now too stiff for needlework, but it used to be very rewarding. Years ago I was trying to embroider with a broken arm, and my visiting aunt said, “Is that your fancywork?” I loved that and still think of it that way.
Mary, the pattern is easy once you get your head in the piecing zone.
At the beginning it has a “cut list and it is a lot of pieces. I just “cut as I went” and I also made the 18″ block. There is one for 6.5 inches and that is INSANITY…. after all of this tiny joining and trimming and measuring, you get a 6″ block?
I could imagine making many many of these 18″ blocks and making a big quilt top. I do not know if I could manage that, I think, then, I would make the massive cut list pile and number/label 42 piles! yikes. but even a lap quilt would be really pretty as you could turn the block each time.
I have so many quilts on my list…. this would take a lot of prep.
It would be nice to use some fabric other that “white Kona”… how about some other low volume for the back ground. I have had my eye on a few yards of Ruby Star Speckled confetti https://www.hawthornesupplyco.com/speckled-by-rashida-coleman-hale/CDJY6 probably in a very light fabric,
but the choices are limitless 😱🥳 Oh! and then choosing the fabrics for the peonies! – – Then having it all there, and cutting it up and labeling the pieces with tiny bits of blue tape (1, 2, 3, – – – – 39, 40, 41, 42!) and then sewing and sewing. and making a giant mess on the dining room table that we never eat on but it is Rex’s mom’s table and it is a treasure and even more treasured with my little Featherweight on it!
I certainly hope that George is improving and that Jeanne has been able to get some rest somehow too. With so much going on, perhaps, a neighbor or friend have been able to take care of the chickens and collect the eggs. I’m thinking about them both all of the time.
Today, we’re supposed to hit about 81, so back to working outside weather. It was 68 inside this morning. One cat fed. The other will arrive from next door later this morning. Crows will be ready to eat their kibble anytime they see me. You know facial recognition.
I’m hoping that today we may be able to get back to the drip under the sink problem. I sure hope that other person remembered to dump the little pan. I’m heading to the kitchen next to check.
The tomatoes, cukes, and zukes are all progressing nicely in the garden. Looking forward to a cucumber salad soon since lettuce use is so iff right now.
Has anyone gotten sick from eating salad? I sure hope not, but so many across the country certainly have. They are saying that washing lettuce does not get rid of the parasite as it is actually inside. So, what are we supposed to do? Boil the lettuce? Nothing like a wilted salad I guess. I feel sorry for Taco Bell as the lettuce problem is not their fault, but the supplier.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and I’ll be sending George and Jeanne positive thoughts. Hope that we receive good news soon.
So while all you lovely ladies are doing “adult” things, like quilting, sewing, plumbing, and things of that sort, here I am, thinking about school starting, and getting all the dolls book bags and school supplies to see if they have everything! I know, crazy! But they all have books, crayons, pencils and notebooks in their bags, and some do need more. However, I had no idea that I happened to have three of Kit’s pencil boxes in each 40’s girls bags! I have no recollection of getting all those! I also have quite a few accessories that I did ‘t know I had and have been looking for on EBay. I’m still trying to figure out what to get for Sara, since her hair is so long in the back, a backpack would be lost there! Then if she is with the 40’s girls, she needs something that would work with that. No backpacks back then. I guess if that’s the extent of my problems, I should be happy.
Charlotte, I love the Hitty books! I remember being introduced to them in grade school, and completely fell in love!! That’s the kind of history I like!
No, we have not gotten sick from eating lettuce here, but we get local lettuce from farmers. I never buy bagged lettuce or salad greens. Taco Bell is not on our list of places to eat, either.
Jeanne, hopefully, you are getting extra time now, to take care of George. He couldn’t ask for a better nurse! As always you both are in my prayers!💕🙏🏻
Sissy, in the 40’s? I have something like that for Cecile, which really is Samantha’s, but I don’t recall that in the 40’s. I thought more of a bag for her to carry. Well, there is time to find something! Thank you for the suggestion!
At high school in the early fifties (and I think it had been going on for many years) we had leather satchels which we carried on one shoulder. I know my Auntie Lily bought me mine for passing my 11+ exam. No back packs for us. If they existed I don’t remember ever seeing one then
How fun to be sorting dolly school supplies. I hope we get to see a pic of all of the girls getting ready for school. Maybe Sara can pull her hair to the front to allow for the pack on her back? Or maybe she wants to carry her pack instead? Oh, it might be too heavy to carry too far though. I don’t think that we brought home books in elementary school, but we definitely carried ours from class to class in junior high. Like you, no backpacks at that time. Surprised that we didn’t have back injuries from carrying all of those books which were covered with paper protective covers. Remember putting them on all of your books?
If you’re short on pencils, they can easily be made from skewers. Cut the sticks to size, sand, sharpen one end, and paint. I haven’t made any in a long time, but you probably have. You are so creative. 🙂

I enjoyed reading your sink escapade, Joy. That would be my mom and me. We try to do things ourselves as much as we are able to save money. Therefore, the money can be used on more “necessities” and sometimes fun things instead.
I’ll have to go back and read as I have time. So many things to accomplish while the weather is warm. No yardwork though as we have a terrible air quality from the wildfires. All inside stuff.
So sorry about the smoke. I’ve seen the pics and it is awful in so many places. Tks on the sink faucet fix. I still haven’t crawled back under there to work on the leak other than to dump the drip pan. Must do that soon as I’m getting tired of tripping over all of the items that go back into the cabinet. 🙂

I have tried to comment on Jeanne’s blog but having had time lately. I’ve finally gotten to catch up on everyone’s comments from the last two days though.
We are “snow birds “ and we’re preparing to go home in a few days.
The house is clean and most things are packed except for last minute items. I’ve always written up a list of things to do when we close up our home. That makes it easy for Gregg.
We’ve also been seeing a lot of our neighbors to say goodbye. Some we’ve gone out to dinner or breakfast.
It always tugs at the heartstrings leaving our friends but I’m so excited to be with our kids once again.
Kind of worried about our doggie Gidget, having to be put in a carrier and placed under the seat in front of us on the plane. We have a medication that will hopefully help her settle down. I feel bad for her because she’s definitely a lap doggie.
I wanted to say to Sissy, happy birthday ! and Joy, I have to say, I admire your tenacity as a plumber! You are never afraid to tackle something.
Laura, it sounds like you are the same. Plus, you are a fabulous farmer!

Oh, I hope that Gidget does well on the flight and you too. Tks on the plumbing faucet fix. Still have one more problem under there, but we’ve both been kind of stepping over items scattered on the floor that belong in the under sink cabinet and ignoring the problem. Must get on the drip solving. 🙂

It is printable in pdf form. I would love to share it. Just put Peony pattern in the subject line… or something like that. the cutting sheets, of two pages plus the top portion of page three, look overwhelming. You can see in a newly added photo, the diagram of the block and also how I taped the cut sheets together to make one paper. I just folded the pages long way to just expose the size I needed. I taped the pages together to have them all lined up. aaand, stuffed the page into a plastic page holder. You can do it!!!
Here the air quality is supposed to be “terrible” in Northern Virginia, but so far it is not effecting me at all. Yes, the sky looks over cast, it is rather comfortable outside on the screened porch but we do not get direct sun for very long, and now with the heavy light blocking drapery on the west side, it is very helpful. I keep the curtains partly open and the wind blows in. KittyPrincess loves it. I have to be mindful of keeping her hydrated with very watery pate food, she likes it but does not know why I am making her drink her snacks.
Anywho, I just looked at the temperature reading and it says 88º and it is humid but I do not feel horrible out here (going back inside now😂) I will probably develop a headache later.
Charlotte, I do not think I knew you made dolls! (I am not on facebook) I am so happy you took your dolls to your guild. I bet that was a lot of fun. I knew you had a library Science degree and I think that is very cool. I know a few of my daughters friends that also have a degree in library science.
I should add many more photos to my flickr page. That page is lacking a lot.
Joy, I am glad you are the weeding queen and the plumbing queen. This is really a great skill, the plumbing part. Weeding I do not enjoy. Hubbs has his special digging tool. Do you have one of those too?
I am going to take a coffee break now, and try to get peppy to do some vacuuming.

Hope the people on the roof can fix whatever is going on at your place. As to weeding, I don’t mind it so much except when all I’m trying to grab are weeds with horrible stickers or blackberry with thorns. They can go through my leather gloves. Ouch! I have two tools that go along with me as I do my work. A standard weed digger that has, believe it or not, an oak handle. Probably got it at a garage sale some years ago. And my Fiskars rotary clippers. If I can’t dig out a clump of blackberry that is in the hard as a rock adobe soil, I cut it off at ground level with the clippers. Then it is easy to weaken it by continued cutting of the new shoots. Or if other person is around and wants to use one of his tools, I have him dig out the clump or if it’s privet or oak cut it off at ground level so it’s not a trip hazard. It will come back, but it is easy to clip off the new growth. I don’t use chemicals, so continued cutting works pretty well. 🙂
Good morning all, it is slightly warmer than yesterday, then it said 1C, feels like -1. Today it just says 1, feels like 1C so moving up lol. it is supposed to be sunny and 15C .
I, of course, grew up with seasons the same as yours, and even after 52 yrs I still have to concentrate when I am thinking of seasons here. My default setting is April is spring when in fact it is autumn. The other day, in the car Sam and I were discussing something that had happened in UK and she did exactly the same as me, only the opposite. She was struggling to get her head around January being winter. We had a real laugh about it.
Barbara, I saw your post about colloquialisms. When I moved, at 13 from Grantham to Huddersfield, about 100 miles, I felt I was learning a whole new language. Even more when I moved here, but at least it was 12,000 miles!!! As for US and UK, they are “two countries separated by a common language”, (possibly George Bernard Shaw).
My brother in Karnes City says there has been flooding in Texas. I hope you are OK. I haven’t heard about it on the news but , from what he said it was further north than you. I hope that is right.
Elizabeth, hearing aids here are only partially subsidised by the govt. I had to pay NZ$4000 and that was after a $1000 subsidy. One of mine stopped working so I went back to the dealer, it turned out it was just in the warranty by about two weeks so they replaced it for me. I also have to pay for my glasses. They will pay for a basic pair but any deviation from that, you are on your own. They won’t let you pay the difference either.
Remember I said I couldn’t watch the game on Thursday but was going to watch it when I got home? I got through almost the whole meeting without hearing the score, then my friend on our table accidentally told me, AFTER I had said I didn’t want to know! She didn’t mean to, in fact I am not sure she realised what she had done until I reacted. I haven’t watched it. The France vs England game for third place is on in the morning, I don’t think I will get to see that one either since I will be in church for most of the game but we will see. Sorry Georgina, but I hope England win!
Have to go since I have a quilt calling my name! I have quilted 40 of the hundred blocks, for some reason I doubled up on two so they are now orphans!

So, I guess the earthquake the other day in NZ wasn’t felt in your area? Hope that there wasn’t any damage. Earlier, there was a big one off the coast of Mexico/Guatemala. So that ring of fire is going off.
Anne….thank you for sharing about your hearing aids in NZ. I spent part of yesterday on the phone with my health insurance co. and they have a “vendor” who handles setting you up with a Hearing Aid store close by. He did provide me with my benefits which include a 60-day trial period, free follow-up appts. for a year, 3 year warranty on hearing aids, 80 batteries with the initial purchase (80?…wonder how long those last?), and up to 60% off (example: $650. for one hearing aid and that is with the discount)
Today I’ve been hearing from my daughters via email regarding my options and I would need one daughter available to drive me to the appt. One daughter sent me information about hearing aids ordered from Amazon and they are a LOT less expensive but I wish I knew what the difference is between those and one’s from a Hearing Aid place. And….I don’t know how hearing aids work….do you just turn them on and pop them into your ear? So I will see what the hearing aid place shows me and make some decisions about types/warranties/follow-up help/quality/etc.
Heard from one of my daughters today that little Baby Boy Harry was born this morning at 7:35 and weighs 7 lbs. 4 oz. Oh my goodness! I have some purchased things for my Granddaughter’s new baby but I must switch into high gear on the baby quilt! We knew it was due near the end of July but this month has really gotten away from me, what with my daughter flying down for a visit too. I had told my Granddaughter that I was working on something for the baby….but not to worry….it isn’t a doll! She just laughed.
Well, it is 90 degrees outside today after having almost three days of rain, off and on. I did read that flooding was happening in parts of Texas….but not too near where we live. It is too hot today to even have the window open about 5 inches, in my art room! I like having some fresh air and our cats like to sit there too since the bird feeder is hanging nearby and they have constant entertainment. I should really go out in the backyard and pull up any weeds sprouting up among the pea gravel because they come up so easy after a rain soaking….but a baby quilt sounds like more fun! And I ‘ll need to make a “Welcome, new baby” card!
Just wanted to ask if you had tried Costco to price hearing aides? Other person had his hearing test there and they have great prices and guarantees on their HA’s. I would definitely check them out. Other person here hasn’t decided that he wants them, but he needs them, so I can’t tell you the result. But, they are very professional and really know their stuff. Have you checked on rechargeable HA’s? Because those batteries have to be replaced at sometimes the most inconvenient times. Good luck.
I have worn a hearing aid since I was 10 years old! I have seen a vast difference in what they were back in the fifties and now. My advice for anyone needing a hearing aid, is to first go to an audiologist, and they will guide you to whatever brand that is the best for you. Don’t go to a hearing aid place that sells only one brand of hearing aid, since that is what they will try to sell to you, whether or is the best for you or not.
My husband is a veteran, and gets his hearing aids free, plus any servicing that needs to be done, and batteries too, for free. I’m not that lucky, but it is something to consider if you or your husband is a veteran.

Rosemary, you need to read the small print on your pattern. Most do not allow digital copying of their patterns except for the purchaser.

Today, we’re supposed to hit about 81, so back to working outside weather. It was 68 inside this morning. One cat fed. The other will arrive from next door later this morning. Crows will be ready to eat their kibble anytime they see me. You know facial recognition.
I’m hoping that today we may be able to get back to the drip under the sink problem. I sure hope that other person remembered to dump the little pan. I’m heading to the kitchen next to check.
The tomatoes, cukes, and zukes are all progressing nicely in the garden. Looking forward to a cucumber salad soon since lettuce use is so iff right now.
Has anyone gotten sick from eating salad? I sure hope not, but so many across the country certainly have. They are saying that washing lettuce does not get rid of the parasite as it is actually inside. So, what are we supposed to do? Boil the lettuce? Nothing like a wilted salad I guess. I feel sorry for Taco Bell as the lettuce problem is not their fault, but the supplier.

So while all you lovely ladies are doing “adult” things, like quilting, sewing, plumbing, and things of that sort, here I am, thinking about school starting, and getting all the dolls book bags and school supplies to see if they have everything! I know, crazy! But they all have books, crayons, pencils and notebooks in their bags, and some do need more. However, I had no idea that I happened to have three of Kit’s pencil boxes in each 40’s girls bags! I have no recollection of getting all those! I also have quite a few accessories that I did ‘t know I had and have been looking for on EBay. I’m still trying to figure out what to get for Sara, since her hair is so long in the back, a backpack would be lost there! Then if she is with the 40’s girls, she needs something that would work with that. No backpacks back then. I guess if that’s the extent of my problems, I should be happy.
Charlotte, I love the Hitty books! I remember being introduced to them in grade school, and completely fell in love!! That’s the kind of history I like!
No, we have not gotten sick from eating lettuce here, but we get local lettuce from farmers. I never buy bagged lettuce or salad greens. Taco Bell is not on our list of places to eat, either.

At high school in the early fifties (and I think it had been going on for many years) we had leather satchels which we carried on one shoulder. I know my Auntie Lily bought me mine for passing my 11+ exam. No back packs for us. If they existed I don’t remember ever seeing one then
How fun to be sorting dolly school supplies. I hope we get to see a pic of all of the girls getting ready for school. Maybe Sara can pull her hair to the front to allow for the pack on her back? Or maybe she wants to carry her pack instead? Oh, it might be too heavy to carry too far though. I don’t think that we brought home books in elementary school, but we definitely carried ours from class to class in junior high. Like you, no backpacks at that time. Surprised that we didn’t have back injuries from carrying all of those books which were covered with paper protective covers. Remember putting them on all of your books?
If you’re short on pencils, they can easily be made from skewers. Cut the sticks to size, sand, sharpen one end, and paint. I haven’t made any in a long time, but you probably have. You are so creative. 🙂

I enjoyed reading your sink escapade, Joy. That would be my mom and me. We try to do things ourselves as much as we are able to save money. Therefore, the money can be used on more “necessities” and sometimes fun things instead.
I’ll have to go back and read as I have time. So many things to accomplish while the weather is warm. No yardwork though as we have a terrible air quality from the wildfires. All inside stuff.
So sorry about the smoke. I’ve seen the pics and it is awful in so many places. Tks on the sink faucet fix. I still haven’t crawled back under there to work on the leak other than to dump the drip pan. Must do that soon as I’m getting tired of tripping over all of the items that go back into the cabinet. 🙂

I have tried to comment on Jeanne’s blog but having had time lately. I’ve finally gotten to catch up on everyone’s comments from the last two days though.
We are “snow birds “ and we’re preparing to go home in a few days.
The house is clean and most things are packed except for last minute items. I’ve always written up a list of things to do when we close up our home. That makes it easy for Gregg.
We’ve also been seeing a lot of our neighbors to say goodbye. Some we’ve gone out to dinner or breakfast.
It always tugs at the heartstrings leaving our friends but I’m so excited to be with our kids once again.
Kind of worried about our doggie Gidget, having to be put in a carrier and placed under the seat in front of us on the plane. We have a medication that will hopefully help her settle down. I feel bad for her because she’s definitely a lap doggie.
I wanted to say to Sissy, happy birthday ! and Joy, I have to say, I admire your tenacity as a plumber! You are never afraid to tackle something.

Oh, I hope that Gidget does well on the flight and you too. Tks on the plumbing faucet fix. Still have one more problem under there, but we’ve both been kind of stepping over items scattered on the floor that belong in the under sink cabinet and ignoring the problem. Must get on the drip solving. 🙂

You can see in a newly added photo, the diagram of the block and also how I taped the cut sheets together to make one paper. I just folded the pages long way to just expose the size I needed. I taped the pages together to have them all lined up. aaand, stuffed the page into a plastic page holder. You can do it!!!
Here the air quality is supposed to be “terrible” in Northern Virginia, but so far it is not effecting me at all. Yes, the sky looks over cast, it is rather comfortable outside on the screened porch but we do not get direct sun for very long, and now with the heavy light blocking drapery on the west side, it is very helpful. I keep the curtains partly open and the wind blows in. KittyPrincess loves it. I have to be mindful of keeping her hydrated with very watery pate food, she likes it but does not know why I am making her drink her snacks.
Anywho, I just looked at the temperature reading and it says 88º and it is humid but I do not feel horrible out here (going back inside now😂) I will probably develop a headache later.
Charlotte, I do not think I knew you made dolls! (I am not on facebook) I am so happy you took your dolls to your guild. I bet that was a lot of fun. I knew you had a library Science degree and I think that is very cool. I know a few of my daughters friends that also have a degree in library science.

Joy, I am glad you are the weeding queen and the plumbing queen. This is really a great skill, the plumbing part. Weeding I do not enjoy. Hubbs has his special digging tool. Do you have one of those too?

Hope the people on the roof can fix whatever is going on at your place. As to weeding, I don’t mind it so much except when all I’m trying to grab are weeds with horrible stickers or blackberry with thorns. They can go through my leather gloves. Ouch! I have two tools that go along with me as I do my work. A standard weed digger that has, believe it or not, an oak handle. Probably got it at a garage sale some years ago. And my Fiskars rotary clippers. If I can’t dig out a clump of blackberry that is in the hard as a rock adobe soil, I cut it off at ground level with the clippers. Then it is easy to weaken it by continued cutting of the new shoots. Or if other person is around and wants to use one of his tools, I have him dig out the clump or if it’s privet or oak cut it off at ground level so it’s not a trip hazard. It will come back, but it is easy to clip off the new growth. I don’t use chemicals, so continued cutting works pretty well. 🙂
Good morning all, it is slightly warmer than yesterday, then it said 1C, feels like -1. Today it just says 1, feels like 1C so moving up lol. it is supposed to be sunny and 15C .
I, of course, grew up with seasons the same as yours, and even after 52 yrs I still have to concentrate when I am thinking of seasons here. My default setting is April is spring when in fact it is autumn. The other day, in the car Sam and I were discussing something that had happened in UK and she did exactly the same as me, only the opposite. She was struggling to get her head around January being winter. We had a real laugh about it.
Barbara, I saw your post about colloquialisms. When I moved, at 13 from Grantham to Huddersfield, about 100 miles, I felt I was learning a whole new language. Even more when I moved here, but at least it was 12,000 miles!!! As for US and UK, they are “two countries separated by a common language”, (possibly George Bernard Shaw).
My brother in Karnes City says there has been flooding in Texas. I hope you are OK. I haven’t heard about it on the news but , from what he said it was further north than you. I hope that is right.
Elizabeth, hearing aids here are only partially subsidised by the govt. I had to pay NZ$4000 and that was after a $1000 subsidy. One of mine stopped working so I went back to the dealer, it turned out it was just in the warranty by about two weeks so they replaced it for me. I also have to pay for my glasses. They will pay for a basic pair but any deviation from that, you are on your own. They won’t let you pay the difference either.
Remember I said I couldn’t watch the game on Thursday but was going to watch it when I got home? I got through almost the whole meeting without hearing the score, then my friend on our table accidentally told me, AFTER I had said I didn’t want to know! She didn’t mean to, in fact I am not sure she realised what she had done until I reacted. I haven’t watched it. The France vs England game for third place is on in the morning, I don’t think I will get to see that one either since I will be in church for most of the game but we will see. Sorry Georgina, but I hope England win!
Have to go since I have a quilt calling my name! I have quilted 40 of the hundred blocks, for some reason I doubled up on two so they are now orphans!

Anne….thank you for sharing about your hearing aids in NZ. I spent part of yesterday on the phone with my health insurance co. and they have a “vendor” who handles setting you up with a Hearing Aid store close by. He did provide me with my benefits which include a 60-day trial period, free follow-up appts. for a year, 3 year warranty on hearing aids, 80 batteries with the initial purchase (80?…wonder how long those last?), and up to 60% off (example: $650. for one hearing aid and that is with the discount)
Today I’ve been hearing from my daughters via email regarding my options and I would need one daughter available to drive me to the appt. One daughter sent me information about hearing aids ordered from Amazon and they are a LOT less expensive but I wish I knew what the difference is between those and one’s from a Hearing Aid place. And….I don’t know how hearing aids work….do you just turn them on and pop them into your ear? So I will see what the hearing aid place shows me and make some decisions about types/warranties/follow-up help/quality/etc.
Heard from one of my daughters today that little Baby Boy Harry was born this morning at 7:35 and weighs 7 lbs. 4 oz. Oh my goodness! I have some purchased things for my Granddaughter’s new baby but I must switch into high gear on the baby quilt! We knew it was due near the end of July but this month has really gotten away from me, what with my daughter flying down for a visit too. I had told my Granddaughter that I was working on something for the baby….but not to worry….it isn’t a doll! She just laughed.
Well, it is 90 degrees outside today after having almost three days of rain, off and on. I did read that flooding was happening in parts of Texas….but not too near where we live. It is too hot today to even have the window open about 5 inches, in my art room! I like having some fresh air and our cats like to sit there too since the bird feeder is hanging nearby and they have constant entertainment. I should really go out in the backyard and pull up any weeds sprouting up among the pea gravel because they come up so easy after a rain soaking….but a baby quilt sounds like more fun! And I ‘ll need to make a “Welcome, new baby” card!
Just wanted to ask if you had tried Costco to price hearing aides? Other person had his hearing test there and they have great prices and guarantees on their HA’s. I would definitely check them out. Other person here hasn’t decided that he wants them, but he needs them, so I can’t tell you the result. But, they are very professional and really know their stuff. Have you checked on rechargeable HA’s? Because those batteries have to be replaced at sometimes the most inconvenient times. Good luck.
I have worn a hearing aid since I was 10 years old! I have seen a vast difference in what they were back in the fifties and now. My advice for anyone needing a hearing aid, is to first go to an audiologist, and they will guide you to whatever brand that is the best for you. Don’t go to a hearing aid place that sells only one brand of hearing aid, since that is what they will try to sell to you, whether or is the best for you or not.
My husband is a veteran, and gets his hearing aids free, plus any servicing that needs to be done, and batteries too, for free. I’m not that lucky, but it is something to consider if you or your husband is a veteran.
