Well, I was hoping for some kind of update on George today, Jeanne. I am hoping “no news is good news” but we never know. We prayed for him and you at our prayer service this afternoon.
A very happy birthday to Sissy!!
For those of you not able to sleep because it’s too warm….that happens here sometimes, too, but I am Much more likely to have trouble sleeping if I am too chilly. Even though we rarely get super cold weather in the Seattle area, if it’s chilly enough (and keep in mind, I keep the thermostat at 62 at night, 70 in the day) at night, I sometimes wear silk long underwear under my jammies, as well as socks on my feet, plus I have an electric foot warmer tucked in at the foot of my bed during the winter months! Yeah, I get That cold.
We’ve had a couple of days in the mid to low 80s, but tomorrow we might not even break 70, and may get some thunder showers! You never know about the weather out here.
Tomorrow (that is, Thursday–I’m still up, so it’s still Wednesday in my mind!!) I am doing a “trunk show” of some of the cloth dolls I have made over the last 30-some years. Today I figured out in what order to present them, and I also got some pictures taken, so hopefully in the next day or two I will be able to send those along for using on the blog, if needed.
And then on Friday, Leah will be cutting out her blouse. She is the gal in our church who I’m teaching to sew. So far she’s made an apron and two skirts (one with in-seam pockets)! She has picked things up very quickly, and seems to have a natural affinity for sewing. She is also enjoying it so much–it’s really been fun to teach her, and watch her skills improve!
62º at night and 70º during the day!😱 Wowie, chilly willy! I would love those sleeping temperatures, Charlotte.
We keep this house 72º inside day and night, which is too chilly for Princess Kitty, so she sits on the porch now… all day. (I have been trying to concentrate on keeping her hydrated out there in that heat!)
I love a chilly house but hubbs gets cold and starts walking around with a sweater on😅

I wear LOTS of sweaters, Rosemary! Don’t put short sleeves on until it’s close to 70 outside all day long, at the very least. I am cold all the time, so am really happy when it gets between 75 and 85 during the day! That is comfortable for me, and I can finally go without a sweater!
Oh, this note from Jeanne does not sound good. I wish she could tell us what is happening with our dear George, but we will just keep praying.

Good morning Jeanne, I know you are quite occupied with the care of our dearest George. I truly hope all is well. You can share what you like. Sometimes life is complicated and …. there are no words to explain. You are just going and doing. Both of you are at the very top of my prayers and in my heart every day.
It is good that you have set the blog to update every day so we can focus together on you, keep both of you in our prayers and share other stuff. Life is going on, and George needs all of your attention. I truly hope you surrounded by plenty of helpers.
Oh gosh, I sewed all day yesterday, making the peony “motif” quilt block.
It is this pattern, it was only $4! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1728884683/posy-peony-bouquet-flower-quilt-block It was kind of difficult and for ME it required a lot of concentration. This is good for the brain, right? Anyway, I used mostly “junky fabric” which is defined by me as scraps, leftovers and lesser quality fabrics. I will take a bunch of photos and post it on my flickr photo page, I will let you know. At present I have it pressed and laid on out a frankensteined piece of batting and a nice piece of fabric for a backing,. It measures 18×18. This block can be made in various sizes. the smallest size is 6.5 inches. 😳 that is crazy. I like making tiny things but this block has about 100 pieces.
Anyway, I will take photos and put them on Flickr and then I will inform you.

Well, I know that we can all carry on during this time when Jeanne, can’t be with us. It is so nice that she has been able to leave posts for us anyway. She is such a wonderful person to think of us during George’s illness and always.
So, today, I’ll tell you first that I was able to fix the kitchen faucet!! Yay! We have had hot weather, for us, so it was kind of hard to think and figure out everything. Other person did find the installation book for the faucet from six and a half years ago, so I read through it and crawled under the kitchen sink. But, all I found was the leaking valve which I “fixed” by putting a pan under the drip, drip, drip. Ha ha! But, that didn’t fix the main problem which was a faucet with sprayer that was dangling out of the hole and barely useable. The faucet had been broken for a week and other person had decided that he couldn’t fix it because he couldn’t lay on his back and use his still sore formerly dislocated finger, which is still healing. But then the water leak all over the place caused me to step in. After mopping up a couple of days ago and pulling out everything from underneath the sink, I demanded that instruction book. That finally found, and a day of way too hot outside and inside temps, I discovered that the instructions did show our faucet, but not the problem that we had going. So, after putting off the climb under the sink once again for a couple of days, yesterday, I tried once again. But first, I dropped the big flashlight. Didn’t hit my foot like that razorblade scraper, fortunately, but hurt the flash. Gave that to other person to fix as I absolutely could not see a thing without more light under the sink cave. While he entertained himself with the fix, I grabbed my much smaller but stronger flash and bingo, I had enough light to see. There I was on a towel, on my back, in the sink cabinet, under the sink trying to see all the way up to the connection for the faucet way above as well as dodging the little occasional drip from the water intake valve. Drip, drip, right by head. So, after surmising the situation once again, I discovered that none of the installation instructions mentioned our problem. Our faucet was actually loose from the sink and the booklet showed absolutely nothing about how to attach it to the sink itself. So, I crawled back to the kitchen brightness and sat on the floor a minute thinking about the situation. Then, I got up and put the faucet, plates underneath, and whole shebang back together and aligned it to the sink. I called other person and told him to hold it in the exact position and not move it an iota. Then, I crawled back down under the sink, back on my back, and with my trusty flashlight, reached up between all of the hoses and the sink up as far as I could stretch my arm and grabbed a large nut directly under the faucet. I really couldn’t see it with my arm there, but could feel it and started turning it by hand, righty tighty. Tightened it as much as I could and then shouted to other person above that he could let go of the beast. Then, I reversed and popped back up to check the faucet. Well, guess what? It was now back to perfect. Swiveled to both sinks as directed. Water worked just fine. And looked exactly right. I had fixed it. Of course, it was only hand tightened because I had no wrench that I could fit in that tiny space, so today, we’re going to try to find some tool that might fit up under there so I can tighten the nut a little more. But, it is back to working! Mission accomplished. But, fixing the intake valve is a whole another situation. That piece has three different hoses connected to it and there is no way to twist it to try to eliminate the leak without dismantling three hoses. But, the drip pan is working for the moment. Always something. And I’m not going back under there today. 🙂
Well, Joy, you told the story so well I can just see it, you lying on the towel, shining your light, Other person sort of helping and finally finding the nut and get it done. I had a great photo in my head, seeing it all!!
Ha ha, it is funny now to think about, but sure wasn’t when I was crawling around. 🙂

Tks Rosemary. One fix down and one leak to still fix. Right now, were dumping the drip every morning. But, we’re thinking about how to attack it. 🙂
i cannot imagine crawling around to fix anything as you do. I can’t imagine every doing that again. Maybe when I’m done with PT but I doubt it. You were right about the drain flies and we know what the problem is and it will need to be fixed. For some stupid reason the drain on my sink without the garbage disposal has a screen at the top. Have you ever heard of that. God forbid you accidentally get any food down that side. I’m really careful not to do that but evidently over time sludge builds up on this screen and is a haven for drain flies. Really surprised this hasn’t happened until now. So we are going to get a new set-up and get rid of this crazy drain configuration once and for all. It wouldn’t be a problem if there was some way to reach the screen to clean it but once you cement the drain in there is no way to reach the screen. Can’t wait till it’s gone. But what made me think of that is Sean was fussing because he will have to be the one to do the work on his hands and knees to dislodge the nut to release the drain and he’s not at all looking forward to doing that.
Joy, I absolutely laughed out loud when you talked about the big flashlight, and “While he entertained himself with the fix”. Reminds me of how happy Ron was as long as he had something to tinker with. It was a good distraction for him, too!

Joy, you just might make “The Plumber of the Year award! That is no small feat to be able to crawl underneath the sink and do what you did! Plus you always make things sound so interesting and suspenseful so that we keep on reading!
A big Happy Birthday to Sissy! You were just 5 years old when I was born, but I am sure we both share many happy memories of the 40’s! Wish I could go back!
Charlotte, I am looking forward to seeing the dolls you made for your trunk show! And good luck with helping Leah cjt out her blouse! Lucky you to have so done to show how to sew! Most young women now, have no inclination to learn. I spent many happy hours at my sewing machine when I was young and had fun creating my wardrobe. Of course, I started with doll clothes by hand, then onto my mother’s Kenmore sewing machine. After I started teaching, I bought my own machine, a Singer Stretch and Sew, which I still have and use (occasionally) today!
Thank you for the birthday wish, Linda! I felt like our trip to FL was more like a birthday, and for our Country too! So you are close on my birthday tail,I have several friends just your age, then.

Rosemary, I agree with Linda, looking at all your wonderful quilts is like a quilt show. What a treat. The peony block is wonderful, well done. Have you seen any of the late Pam Bono’s patterns. She excelled in pieced flowers. I have looked at them but the sheer number of pieces is too daunting so well done for finishing it!!
Joy, I always love your stories whether they are dolly capers or, in this case, plumbing capers. Well done for fixing it. Unfortunately, when we had to fix our tap in the sink it had actually sheared off and needed a new tap.
Charlotte, well done for teaching your friend. My granddaughters all want to learn to sew but only when they want to which is usually about 9pm! I have promised to try when we have cleaned up the workroom. Part of the problem is that they want to start at the top but they don’t really know the basics. Livvie also wants to learn to sew but she lives in Auckland. She is coming to see me when she comes back down again. She at least knows the basics!
Happy birthday Sissy. We always had birthday parties as children, several of our cousins lived nearby, but we didn’t have many friends invited, not sure why. My sister’s birthday is the same as yours, Barbara, and we always had a party for her. I never thought about how exhausting that must have been for my mother.
It is 1C outside at the moment! We have been leaving the heat pump on 16 or 17C at night it is so cold. My power bill will be through the roof this month. I don’t worry about it though, I pay a set amount each fortnight all year and build up a credit so that when the cold weather hits it isn’t such a burden. At least it is sunny after such a cold night and we can get the washing dry.

Good afternoon, ladies….I was absent for awhile while my daughter came down from Indiana to visit with me and her two sisters here in Texas. But I did catch up on the blog postings I missed…
Jeanne, it sounds like we are all sending prayers your way for both you and your hubby at this time. Wishing you peaceful hours and courage while waiting for solutions and answers.
Sissy….thank you for sharing your experience with having cataract surgery…it helps to read what others have felt. I have had to cancel my upcoming appt. with the medical group I am with, here in our area, as they messaged me that my insurance does not cover their hearing aids and the cost will be between $2000. to 6000.00. They did suggest some other places to try, and I plan to call my insurance today to see what they will cover with a different place or different manufacturer of hearing aids. Aging is the pits….and that’s all I have to say about it!
I also loved viewing your photos of dolls in sailor dresses! The “Sailor” look is one of my favorites on dolls.
Linda….I printed out your Baked chicken recipe and am looking forward to making it! I also really enjoyed viewing your AG, Wellie Wisher and Ruby Red dolls arranged in the scenes!
Joy….Congrats on your plumbing fix….lets hear it for the women who can still get down under the sink level to see what the problem is!! My daughter and I have a slow leak coming from what I think is maybe the bend joint in the drain pipe under the kitchen sink. I have been replacing a folded stack of paper towels right under the area but it is a slow leak, for now. I am not able to get down on my knees or on my back on the floor, and my daughter was recently treated by an orthopedic doctor for a pulled tendon and such in one knee, and he administered a cortisone shot into the joint which helped her tremendously, and just before that she was treated for “Trigger Finger”….her index finger had been swollen for several weeks and everything she was trying did not work, so she ended up receiving an injection into the finger joint which she said was extremely painful…nothing like the injection into the knee. She is better now but does work full time so she doesn’t have the time at home like I do. I think we just need to tighten the joint area and she plans to take a look at it but we may ask my son-in-law to have a look-see. He fixed our front door knob last weekend….it had become very loose and I tried to tighten the two screws holding the back plate and the screws dropped on thru into some space I didn’t realize was there! (Sure wish school had offered Basic Home Repairs 101, back in the day!) Not sure what he did but it is fixed and tightly attached again! Our home is only three years old but evidently, there can still be some problems that can crop up.
I did see that Jeanne’s Felicity Charm dress ensemble sold….beautiful dress, and I loved the lacey slip. The basket of tomatoes and the necklace were perfect accessories.
I can certainly see that you do not want to try crawling around under the sink or your daughter, but it sounds like you are right on tightening at the joint. It kind of depends on how it is connected and what kind of threads are on each piece. But, if your son in law is available, go for it. Here, I didn’t want to call a plumber, but other person was ready to spring for one. 🙂
Elisabeth, I am paying for my second set of hearing aides, and neither had insurance. I have never heard of any insurance for hearing aids. We just pay so much a month through something Peyton found. My older brother got his through Cosco and likes his.
