Hi everyone,
First of all, thank you very much for your kind comments on how I fixed my hubby’s pants pockets. I thought you’d be bored out of your mind, but you took time to comment and it made me smile just to know you are all still hanging around!
I seriously can’t seem to get into my sewing room… things just keep popping up. I had every intention of getting the skirt attached to Felicity’s Colonial dress. But it didn’t happen. Not that it’s going to matter since I’m not going to have time to list it for the 250th Anniversary of America! Oh, Boohoo! I’m so sad! It will just have to be a navy blue dress with red and white accents when I DO get around to finishing it. I’m SO sorry!
We have been on the phone for days trying to get some answers to our questions… we keep getting put on hold, or told someone will call us back, or having them say, “We tried to call you but you never answered” and when we told them there were no messages on our phones, and asked WHAT number they were calling, they were using a phone number we had TWENTY + years ago when my hubby worked at SIU Farms! It has been one thing after another, even saying we were a “No Show” for one appointment… AND it was the day he HAD his emergency surgery! We DEFINITELY were there that day!
BUT.. this afternoon we got a girl who ACTUALLY helped us… she gave us the number we needed to call to find out about his next surgery. It had been scheduled for next week, but no one had called us about it. What’s the point of scheduling it if you don’t let the person know WHEN it is? Sorry, I sound like I’m screaming… I’m not, just a little bit frustrated. It is so time consuming and unsettling to have this hanging over our head and not know what’s going on. The girl we talked to said she would have someone call us tomorrow and explain to us what is going to be happening for this next surgery. I sure hope they do call.
Then we had some company come over in the evening and stay for a while.
SO… the only thing I have to show you is this… Our FIRST Fruits of the garden… These 2 cucumbers! And they were delicious! They are called Straight Eights!
But… don’t think I’m leaving you without something to chat about… Linda came to the rescue again today for me. And it fits in perfectly with my cucumbers. If you click on her pictures they will enlarge.
This is what Linda said about her pictures:
I changed the 40’s and modern dolls out and they now are into the “selling mode”!
Here are the modern girls, Emmy, Scarlett and Ivy at their neighborhood farmer’s market! I do have a sign for them, but it is not in this picture!
Here are the 40’s group, selling homemade ice cream! What talent! And check out those crisp new dollar bills too!
Love to you,
Linda💕🌻🍦
Thank you SO much Linda… your girls look wonderful… I hope they are selling inside somewhere instead of outside in the heat… especially your girls selling ice cream!
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, Jeanne, how very frustrating for you!! I hope they give you a survey to fill out once the surgery is over, and be SURE to tell them all that you have told us about your experience! You might even post a review to Yelp or something, too. You never know–it could help, and certainly won’t help!!
But, at last you got someone with information, and that’s the important part. I’m so glad to hear that George’s surgery is on the schedule now. I will keep both of you in my prayers.
Linda, as usual, your dolls look just wonderful, and I so enjoy seeing your displays. I haven’t had much time to play with my dolls or even sew lately, so I enjoy seeing what others are doing. Your girls are so industrious, growing veggies and selling them, and also selling ice cream. It was hot here today (90 in Seattle) so I’m sure they would sell a lot of ice cream!! If those are 40s girls, those dollar bills would say “Silver Certificate” on them–in other words, you could turn them in for an equivalent amount of silver. Today’s bills just say “Federal Reserve Note”. My brother is, and our uncle before him was, a coin/bill collector, so I picked up a little information that way.
I read thru the notes, and as to seafood/fish, I will say that I am 100% pure Swedish, and raised in the midwest, so we ate a lot of fish–smelt, trout, whitefish, etc. I also love lutefisk and pickled herring!! And when I was a child, once in a great while mom would get those little “shrimp cocktail” glasses at the grocery store, and what a treat that was! To this day, I LOVE shrimp/prawns!! Ron, on the other hand, thought they looked like grubworms!! 🙄 I also like crawdads/crayfish and, of course, lobster.
But after we moved out here and started trying various seafood choices, I found out that I do Not like clams or scallops (have tried both), and just Looking at a raw oyster is repugnant to me! Slimy gray lumpy things…..
I can finally enjoy crab again; when we first moved out here, mom kind of “crabbed” us to death (it was “wonderful”, along with clams, mountains, rain, and the ocean), and for a while I didn’t want to even Look at a piece of crab, but now I don’t mind it once in a while.
I will be getting my car fixed soon! (Remember, my accident on the first….) And it has been decided I should have some chiropractic stuff on my neck, which was slightly injured, so that starts Friday.
We have one more HOT day before our temps go back down into a more normal range for us. This has been one of the warmest, driest Junes I can remember since we moved here in 1960. Our June is usually more wet than dry, and more chilly than hot. But I’m not complaining!!
great update Charlotte. I love fish too. Some that you named I am not familiar with, but I like fresh fish, also shrimp-I can eat almost too much of those. and I also do not like clams or oysters. Scallops, if they are cooked really fancy, I might like one or two.
Interesting thing about money. I am sure all of you have a lot of “old currency” around. I used to have way too many $2 bills, my father in law had stacks of a hundred $2 bills make into tablets and he used to pay for stuff when hubbs was a kid. just funny.
I have a lot of old money from all over the world. So that is very nice that your brother is a coin collector, I bet he knows a lot and could be called a numismatist.
I hope your car repair goes well.
Here, it has been cooler that usual, but the big hots are coming
Northern Virginia Summers are pretty hot – humid hot.
Bonjour.
Hello. I see that the administration isn’t any better with you. We French ‘complain a lot’ about missed appointments; but we are told that America is so great… I believe that unfortunately, we are all equal. I hope that this issue gets resolved as soon as possible. If I haven’t been commenting much lately, it’s because the heat is unusually high, over 40°C (I think 104°F for you). We are more than ten degrees above normal. Our houses are not equipped for such heat, and we are struggling a lot to handle it… I have seen all your posts: the cute little blue/white/red dresses would be perfect here for July 14th, our national holiday. You just need to add a French flag..! ‘Practical’ sewing, I think every seamstress does it: I just added a huge piece to a parasol worn out by the sun. It will easily last another summer. Your pockets are a really good idea. I like it. Also, the dollhouses; my two daughters each had one. The first was bought. The second, I made myself. I still have it (my daughter is 45 now) I should remake it, but I never have the time… I send my best regards to everyone and I’m going back to reading; there’s nothing else to do…
Using google translate: Georgina, merci pour votre commentaire aujourd’hui. J’espère que les fortes chaleurs vont bientôt passer ; il fait vraiment trop chaud. Oui, la lecture est à peu près la seule activité agréable, ou bien se baigner dans une piscine. J’adore lire vos messages.
Georgina. thank you for commenting today. I hope the high temperatures leave soon. That is way too hot. Yes, reading is about the only nice thing to do, or swim in a pool. I love reading your messages. ❤️
I check the temperature in Paris, every morning, and when I saw that it was 103 the other day, I thought, how dreadful. It is similar to our nearby San Francisco, where it is usually on the cool side. When they do get a hot day, it is misery because air conditioning was not needed in the past, and many buildings still do not have it. Hope it cools off for you soon.
Oh Jeanne, I feel for you with all the frustrations getting everything on the same page! It has happened to us too, although not with anything medical, but with financial, boy was THAT a mess, because we were also fighting deadlines and could NOT get tnrough to the right people! Or you might say, jUST people, not automated messages! It too will pass!
Well, thank you for showing my dolls Jeanne,…..once again! Am I the only one dressing dolls? I really do enjoy doing it, and it certainly does make the day more pleasant! I would rather spend my time at home, gardening, cooking, cleaning, and playing with my dolls than anything else! Surely not out “bummin” like my grandmother used to say!
Georgina, I have been seeing on the news about your heat wave. My gosh, 104 degrees must be miserable! Do you have air conditioning? We could not live without it nere, but we also have the high humidity along with our heat waves. I will say that 104 degrees without humidity is more tolerable than 104 with it! But still, my condolences to you!
I did actually finally get a doll dressed the other day. Not like I used to do though. But, she is still barefoot as I didn’t care for the white boots that were part of the outfit. She has on a sweet summer dress. So, I’m waiting for the delivery of some white sandals. 🙂 Maybe I can get a pic of her.
Your girls at the sales table are adorable. So many goodies for sale. I’m sure that they will sell out with the help of their adorable sunglasses wearing pets. Perfect. The forties girls and their pets look like they can’t wait to try some new flavors. So much fun going on. Thanks so much for sharing the wonderful summer pics Linda, and Jeanne.
Good for you, Joy! What kind of sandals did you get? I find that getting shoes and sandals marketed for Ruby Red’s, are always more expensive than others, but they can wear other kinds besides those made just for them. The yellow sandals that Sara is wearing can also be worn by my Wellie, Emmy. They were so reasonably priced, ($5 to $7) and you can find them on both Etsy and EBay. I also have a white pair.
I often buy RRed shoes from Cottontail. They are fisherman’s type sandals. We’ll see how they look when they arrive maybe tomorrow. 🙂
Your set up scenes are fabulous! Love the doggie’s sunglasses. And all the goodies the girls are selling. Veggies and ice cream.
It’s always so much fun to see your girls and how busy they are. I love it that Betsy is aLeah’s included.
I bought a desk for Molly and it’s arriving today. I have three back in Ohio but will send them out here to add and THEN I can do the school scene. My 50’s girls are out here. Ivy, whose name keeps changing in my head, was sent back home for the modern girls.
I should have just written all of this in my own comment area. Sorry. Anyway, it’s always fun to see your girls.
Wow, Paula, you will have four Molly desks? That’s wonderful! I have just one, and unless I create a schoolroom scene, it stays in Molly’s bedroom. It is just like the ones I had as a child. You will have an amazing schoolroom scene with four desks! Do you have her school jumper too?
Jeanne, I forgot to mention those yummy cucumbers! I love the smaller ones, since they are so nice for snacks and easier to cut up for salads too, not to me to mention Amish Pickle relish!
Good morning Jeanne!
I enjoyed the post about altering your husband’s pockets. You just never know when the skills we have will come in handy in a way we might not expect. Well done!
I also wanted to say that I understand COMPLETELY how you are feeling today. I am my oldest brother’s guardian. A month ago he fell in his senior living complex and called an ambulance who took him to an emergency room. The last month has been just like you described. No idea what’s happening with him, no way to get information, no way to share information, no idea who to call to ask questions; calls and texts we make are not answered or returned. IT IS SO FRUSTRATING! We are waiting, once again, to find out when he can leave rehab and move to his new assisted living apartment.
I’m sure people want what’s best for your husband (and my brother) and I know everyone is overworked these days. It’s hard to be patient and to have faith, but hang in there.
So sorry to hear about your brother. I can’t imagine the complexity. I’m guessing that he lives in another city? We have some crazy systems don’t we. I sure hope that you receive more information and quickly.
Thank you for your kind reply, Joy.
My brother actually lives only about 15 miles away! I think that’s part of what makes the situation frustrating. I see him all the time and am known at the senior facility where he lives.
We have more ways to communicate, but less time to actually do it. I’m not sure that’s progress.
So sorry to both of you for the communication phone debacle – your old phone number? huh? there is not excuse for that.
Has your cell phone been ringing at all? or do you still have a land line?
Sometimes cell phones stop ringing, recheck those settings. My phone was not ringing for a day, the builder warranty people tried to call me to no avail.
I shut it down and restarted it. You should give them email back up. Absolutely awful for both of you. I think I know why you have not been much in the sewing room, it is called fatigue. I know your serger was happy to help with Georges pants. I hope today is the day that all of that is sorted and both of you are being informed and up to date on progress. Prayers for transparency and understanding. I hope George is doing well, and you are too.
Linda, thank you so much for these perfect pictures!!
I love them. You make the cutest scenes. I am going to share these photos with my daughter and her AG doll loving daughters. They have Kitt and Emerson along with other cute dolls.
I have to run off. I have a heart doc check up today. It is still always kind of emotional going to the same doctors I took my parents to for 14 years.
Today is our last day in the 80’s. The temps are going to gradually increase into the 90’s… and probably just stay there until October!!! We are expecting some wild weather on Friday.
Love to all of you
I will try to check back later and read all of your latest ❤️
Love you Jeanne and George.
Thank you, Rosemary! So fun to hear that your daughter and grands also have some of the same dolls I have! I hope my pictures can inspire them to make similar scenes with their dolls!
I am so glad that Jeanne, and George, were able to finally connect with someone in the know. So frustrating to find that they had a very old phone number as well. Did they even think of sending a snail mail which would have arrived much more promptly than their antiquated notification system? Or check the current records for a land line number or cell? I’d be livid and sending messages to their probably overpaid CEO. But, I am very happy that there is finally a date! Yay.
Thanks so much for sharing the Straight Eights pic. I’ve grown them in the past here. At least you have some cukes. Ours are still very small seedlings and may or may not produce anything. Although the zukes seem to be coming along. Two of the three tomato plants appear to have some green little ones, but one, zilch. So, we’ll see how it goes. I do have to water every day as the raised beds dry out so quickly.
Late yesterday, I found time to attack one of the still uncleared weedy spaces in the upper area. It was where other person pulled a few weeds months ago, but did not ever finish. So, I did it. Well, about half of it. Pulled and cut blackberry off where I couldn’t get it out. It will be back, but at least it looks better. I absolutely packed a yard can. Callie Cat helped by laying around and keeping an eye on little Winnie, who was peeping through the fence. As I gathered a bunch of weeds and yanked, I was surprised to see something blue. Could it be that lizard that Callie Cat had brought as a present? Looking more closely, I discovered a slightly faded cat collar. Opened, as it was one of those that breakaway, but still had a little blue bell on it too. The bell no longer worked and I know the collar could have been there since last fall, maybe. Did it once belong to Callie Cat? For whatever reason, I remembered that Callie Cat had a pink collar which also disappeared. So, the mystery of the lost cat collar remains.
Got to get going as it is eye appointment day. Hope everyone gets to do something fun today.
Today is making church cookies day and also getting our clothes out to take to FL day. I will be glad when I can start making the food I am taking to FL. It is too hot here now to do anything outside, unless you start early in the morning.
Linda you are so great to help Jeanne with your lovely dolls and their fun to show us. Such busy girls with their sales and icecream. You make me hungry. I love the little doggie with his glasses! Thank you for all the fun you give us.
Jeanne, how frustrating you are having with these people! I hope it is all fixed by now. You have enough to deal with without all that!! Prayers for you and George are always in my heart for you.
Thank you, Sissy! I have fun dressing my dolls and putting them into different scenes. You would think at my age I would be done with it, but I’m still going strong! Those sunglasses are really doll glasses, but they fit the dogs, so why not?
That was clever what you did to help George with his pants pockets, Jeanne! I am sure he appreciates it. I am sorry things have been frustrating for you guys. I pray they will call you with clear information soon. Congratulations on your beautiful cucumbers!
Thank you for sharing your pictures, Linda! Is that a Boston Terrier? The girls have been really loving that kind lately because they met a sweet one named Buzz, I think. Today is my Silver Birthday! 🙂 I hope to go thrift storing in the city but Dominic has been needy and I need to keep measuring clothes for Avila, so I don’t know if it will happen. It would be fun to find a doll.
Happy Birthday, Karen!! I know a silver/golden birthday occurs when your age matches the day of the month you were born. You’re only 25? I hope you have a lovely day.
Thank you, Laura! I think the Golden Birthday is when your age matches the day you are born, and the Silver Birthday is when your age are your birthday numbers flipped around. Like June 24 to 42 🙂
You are only 42? How lucky for YOU!
My birthday is December 8th so I guess I have to hold out until I am 80!
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception! How lovely! My mother’s is February 7, so her Silver one was last year 🙂
Congrats on your birthday. Funny, but I’ve never heard of a silver or gold birthday. But, Happy Day! Hope that you find a doll. 🙂
Thank you, Joy! We didn’t get to go today, but possibly tomorrow! Hopefully you will still get to celebrate yours 🙂
I’ve been reading about the horrible high temperatures in Europe and that next summer could be worse. It’s time for solar and wind power. We’ll have to find ways to keep the birds away from the windmills and the solar panels to take up less space, but if we can make solar panels and windmills, we can figure out ways to make them work better, just like Jeanne did with the pockets.
We have a lot of wind power here in Texas. It was thought it didn’t get too cold here so it was a good place for them. Until it wasn’t. In the winter of 2021 when we had our horrible winter storm the windmills froze and so did we. That is a whole lot of us had no power so no heat. So many of the regular power plants had been taken offline and it would take a long time to get them up and running again so we struggled. The other problem with the windmills here is that they are wearing out and falling apart and creating quite a mess.
agree, drive across the middle of the country and there are full graveyards of solar panels and turbine blades. It costs a fortune of our tax dollars to break them down. Imagine living in a town with a vast area dumping ground: mainly but not exclusively, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, California, Arkansas, and New Jersey…. and many more. I wonder which is more desirable? Huge Data centers as we have all over Virginia by the hundreds, or dumping ground for toxic solar panels and polymers from the blades, all of which still use petroleum?
We’ve had several wind projects here in CA that have been cancelled by the current administration. Very sad. Europe and China are so far ahead of us with their environmental projects. And China, has developed an electric car that beats anything available here.
I’m really hoping that any new wind installations will be required to follow stringent recycling rules. See below.
When a wind turbine reaches the end of its 20 to 30-year lifespan, it is either dismantled or “repowered” (fitted with upgraded, more powerful components). While 85-95% of the turbine’s steel and mechanical parts are easily recycled, the fiberglass blades present a unique disposal challenge .The industry handles retired turbines through three primary avenues:Mechanical & Chemical Recycling: Traditional melting doesn’t work on the resin-infused fiberglass of the blades . However, facilities use specialized shredding to convert old blades into raw material for cement manufacturing (where they replace coal and sand). Thermal processes like pyrolysis are also utilized to extract energy or reusable fibers .Repurposing & Reuse: Old blades are incredibly durable and are increasingly being upcycled. They are being creatively engineered into noise barriers, pedestrian footbridges, playground slides, and shelters for bicycles or EV charging stations.Landfill Disposal: Due to limited recycling capacity, many non-toxic fiberglass blades end up in landfills. Because of this, industry leaders—such as the European wind sector and companies like Ørsted—have enacted self-imposed landfill bans, forcing the rapid development of circular disposal solutions
My message didn’t go through correctly. I was saying that these pretty dresses, blue/white/red, would be perfect for July 14th (which is our national holiday). You just need to add a French flag. Google translates however it wants!!! Georgina.
Yes, I think I read that correctly, Georgina. I hope your National Holiday La Fête nationale Bastille Day!!!💙🤍❤️💙🤍❤️
Thank you, Karen! I think that black and white sitting dog is supposed to be a French Bulldog, but not sure. I got him in Branson, when we went on the Showboat Branson Belle, and they had a show on the o boat featuring a little French Bulldog, whose name was Irving! They had lots of them in the souvenir shop there. I just thought he was cute and worked out perfectly for my dolls.
Silver birthday?? You are just 25? Happy Birthday however old you are!
🙂 We used to live about half an hour from Branson maybe less. He is cute 🙂 On the Internet it says different things, but I was taught that your Golden Birthday is when your age matches the same number of your birthday, and that your Silver Birthday is when your age is your birthday day is switched around, like June 24 and age 42. 🙂
It’s always fun to see your photos, Linda. There’s definitely no doll dressing going on here.
Your Farmer’s Market is so cute. Our’s opened a few weeks ago, but I haven’t had the time to check it out this year. They block one block of our three block downtown.
Love the ice cream display. I should haul out the Vita-Mix and make a tasty treat.
At what shop did you find Sara’s sandals, please? The flowers are so cute and the price is perfect.
I got mine from Dori’s Doll Boutique on EBay, but different doll stores sell that same thing. I do not buy expensive doll shoes!
Jeanne…I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been to reach a scheduler or someone who could help with appointments that you weren’t notified about. I am amazed at how many contacts I must make to even schedule a doctor appt. or a medical test or lab work. And sometimes when I’ve called, the scheduler is in another city, doing all of the scheduling for several affiliated sites nearby! I have asked questions about location and distance to a facility and then had to call another number or speak to someone from THAT facility for answers.
We had a bloodwork lab located in the same building (7 minutes from our home) as my primary care doctor and they always offered walk-in clinic lab hours, 7 days a week, which helped us a lot since I don’t have a car and my daughter takes me. NOT anymore….you need an appt. now. I needed lab work about a year ago for a UTI infection and we had to make the appt. for a lab that happened to be open on the weekend, but it was 40-45 minutes away. A new medical building has opened up right next to the hospital in Pflugerville and now there is another lab site, plus more specialty doctors. I am in the process of locating doctors and having my records sent to them as it is much closer to home. Still waiting for a closer site that has the equipment to do a diagnostic mammogram, since currently the closest locations only do regular screenings. Currently, we have a 45 minute drive to the closest Austin radiology site, but thankfully, I only need to go once a year. Seems like apts. and homes are being built faster than there are enough specialty doctors nearby to handle the population growth.
I also find that with my patient portal online, I must stay alert to what is entered as to current medications, allergies, or treatments, since a dosage was changed recently and it should match what is on the patient portal records. If I ever have an ER visit, these entries to my medical records are what the ER doctors will be reviewing.
Seems like in the “old days”, you just called your Doctor’s office, spoke with the front person or the nurse, set up an appt. and you were all set. Unlike today, where it takes several phone calls and conversations with folks whose left hands don’t always know what the right hands are doing.
Georgina….I saw on the news recently the videos of how folks in France and other European areas were trying to stay cool. The high temps can be brutal. Our air conditioner had a problem a year ago during 100 degree temps and I did not realize how hard it is for the elderly body to get by without the AC. I just sat in front of the only fan we have (a little 10-inch fan) and even placed a bowl of ice cubes in front of the fan hoping to feel a little cooler. My son-in-law brought over their window air conditioner/fan for us to use until our AC unit could be looked at, and it did help but only cooled the immediate room area. When we lived in Indiana and my youngest daughter was in high school, we had a brutal spell of high temps…and we lived in an older home that was without air conditioning. She was so miserable that I told her to go get in the shower and get herself and her clothes wet, and then wet down a sheet to wrap around herself, and she managed to fall asleep in a lounger chair once she was cooler. I am thinking of you and hoping the temps will come down soon in your area.
Charlotte….in response to your love of fish! In the first year of my marriage, my hubby and I LOVED the Stouffer’s lobster Newburg….so much so that we had it every Friday evening, served over white rice, and buttered spinach as the veggie! Stouffer’s no longer makes this frozen item, but I wish they did….we did love our Friday evening dinners! I could handle lobster that was prepared like that, but cannot look at fresh whole lobsters served at restaurants. And when I was little, my mother taught me how to fish and even clean the fish….we would have fresh fried perch! I can almost taste it just thinking about it! Halibut, flounder, salmon and cod fish are also tasty but nothing like fried perch!
And thank you, Linda, for the doll photos, and info about finding sandals for the Ruby Red dolls that are not so expensive. I have found the Close-out shoes and Factory seconds from Cottontail Doll Designs are affordable, at $5.50 or sometimes $7.00. Not always sandals are included or available at the reduced prices though. I’ve ordered some of the factory second shoes before and could not see anything “wrong” with them…no glue spots or discoloration, they looked perfectly like regular shoes! I like the sandals on your dolls in the photos…so will look at Etsy or Ebay offerings. For the most part, I enjoy making cloth shoes and slippers, and can make flip-flops, using fabric, cording and trims.
Thanks to everyone, posting about how your days are going and how you’re surviving the high temps! Stay cool as best you can! I’m off to filling the bird feeder, cleaning kittie boxes, preparing the cold pasta salad kit from Aldi’s, to go with the hamburgers my daughter and I are having tonight, and hopefully spend some time on painting the artwork for family Birthday’s coming up! I painted last night until 11:00 and then had a touch of insomnia in the middle of the night, so slept in this morning.
Elizabeth, I got my sandals from Dori’s Doll Boutique. Other companies also sell those. I do have some shoes from Cottontail Designs, but where do you find the factory seconds and seconds?
Thank you for the compliments!
I’m sure it’s confusing when I refer to my dolls back home and out here. As I referred in Linda’s comment section.
We live in Ohio near Toledo part of the year, then we live out in California the other part of the year. I really missed the dolls in my doll room so I decided that since I had a she shed that I would bring at least one group out here that I could enjoy. And I chose Molly and made them the 50s girls.
We’ve had to stay out here in California longer because of my medical issues and hopefully this next week I can find out if we need to stay more or not, depending on what the urologist says.
And in all the talk about people liking the sea creatures, I just could never get into eating that type of food. However, I am a really selective person when it comes to what I like to eat and I no longer eat meat except once in a blue moon I will eat some chicken strips. But they have to Very crispy.
My family calls me, Mikey, Because if any of you remember the cereal commercials where the little boys try to get their brother Mikey, to eat the cereal because he doesn’t like anything, that’s why they call me, Mikey. My husband even put Mikey on my license plate on my car.
My family is used to it And always joke about it.
I hope everyone is surviving the heat- It’s not too bad out here because we get a lot of wind. But the other day, just being out several hours playing pool with my husband, my arms were massively burned from the sun. At least I have a decent type of cream to put on my arms. I don’t think that has ever happened to me, even though I had always tolerated the sun but I sure didn’t on Sunday.
Hope every one has a great day.
So sorry about the burn. What kind of cream do you use? And sunblock? I’m pretty allergic to most so I usually wear long sleeves when out gardening. Hope your medical condition gets better so that you can head home and see your other doll family.
These days it’s swim leggings and a long sleeve rash guard shirt when I go to the water park. I worry that sunblock is not enough at my age. I just have to stay wet or it does get a bit warm wearing all that.
Jeanne, I am so sorry to hear about your experience with the medical community but have had plenty of our own to know it’s not unique. But totally inexcusable. I took David to the doctor once for an eye infection and waited and waited and waited and he didn’t come out. Finally I went and ask at the desk what was going on. They had put him in an examining room and no one ever showed up. The same thing happened at the same doctor when Sean and Dionne took Skyy when he was just a baby. Imagine putting a sick infant in an examining room and then forgetting about him. But that’s the doctor’s office that told me if I didn’t like what he was telling me I should find another doctor. So I did. Not too long after we were married David went to the hospital for pneumonia. He got the worst care I have ever seen and only got the problem fixed when he called the specialist who was treating him. The doctor was furious that they were neglecting his patient like they were.
Really love your pictures, Linda. Everyone looks so summery. What ambitious young ladies. I’m sure they are doing a great business selling ice cream if it’s as hot there as it is here. I love seeing all the cute little doggies. My dog used to love ice cream. I hope the ones in the picture have had a chance to taste the wares. It all looks yummy.
People were mentioning osteoporosis and it reminded me that my friend who lives in Scotland was taking medication for hers for years and was making her bed one day and her thigh bone broke. No one told her there was a possibility of that happening and she wasn’t prepared for it. Worse yet she lives on the Isle of Harris and had to go to Glasgow for surgery. Her husband got her on the plane and her cousin met her in Glasgow and she stayed with them and they got her to her appointments and the hospital. I don’t know what she would have done if not for family being available. Then once she got home she had a terrible time getting follow-up care.
As for TV shows, well I just found out I’ve been paying for Acorn TV for months while it was not supporting my TV. I got it to watch “Murdoch Mysteries” so wasn’t watching all the time. When I went to watch the new season it told me I needed to subscribe. I was getting it through Amazon Prime Video and I guess they are not doing it anymore but no one let me know. Just kept collecting my money. As for regularly I tend to watch the older shows like Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason, the old Hawaii Five-O and the Andy Griffith Show. I love the Hallmark channel and they are getting ready to have Christmas in July. We love their Christmas shows. Always uplifting. Unfortunately Tubi is not showing Murder She Wrote right now since the contract has expired. I liked watching it on there because they had all the seasons and I could skip around and rewatch some of my favorites. I hope they get it back. I do love shows and books on mysteries but I prefer the cozy variety. Right now I’m reading Murder at Marble House. Previously I read Murder at the Breakers by Alyssa Maxwell. She has lived in Newport, RI, and fell in love with the stories of the people of the gilded age. They are a fun read and take place in 1895. I’m going to check out the Catriona McPherson books.
I love seafood, except for oysters. My mother used to make oyster stew and I would eat the broth with the oyster crackers but couldn’t stand the oysters. But I love clams, shrimp, scallops and especially lobster. I am picky about what fish I’ll eat and it can’t be “fishy’. My mother did not like fish so she never cooked it so I never really learned how but my father-in-law was an avid fisherman and my mother-in-law was good at cooking his catch so I have had some delicious fish meals while visiting them.
Loved the Pink Panther movies and Peter Sellers but I think the movie I found most amazing that he did was “Being There” with Shirley MacLaine. When David and I were dating we went to see a movie that was full but decided to see the other one offered at the theater even though we didn’t know anything about it. It was really different but an amazing movie so and I’m glad we took the opportunity to see it.
Loved Peter Sellers movies. 🙂
Good morning all.
It is 8.15 am and 6C, quite tropical after the last few mornings! Unfortunately that is because it is going to rain all day and only going up to 8C.
I do have an A/C but only in the lounge. I only use it when the temp goes over 30C, then I close all the curtains, open the back door and blob till it cools down. I agree with Linda, it is the humidity that makes it worse. Auckland and Northland are very humid but here it is very dry. What we do have in NZ is the hole in the ozone layer, it is directly above us so we burn very easily (and have high rates of melanoma).
Linda your dolls are very entrepreneurial. I love the way you dress them up and make such great settings for them. Before Sam and co moved in I was planning to do that but all my dolls, except for Sara had to go into storage and there is absolutely nowhere to set anything up. I always enjoy seeing yours though.
Jeanne, what a nightmare. I have been known to keep clicking on the phone till I get a human and then make a sarky comment about a real person at last! When I had to renew my passport in 2019, I also had to apply for a Returning Resident Visa since I am still not an official citizen. It gets attached to my passport or at least to the computer and lasts for the life of the passport. I was waiting for confirmation from immigration forever, at least it felt like it and I was getting concerned so tried ringing. It was impossible. After pressing the buttons about 10 times I ended up back where I started!
Generally, though our health appointment system works quite well. Everything is now online so if I have an accident, say in Auckland and have to go to hospital they can access all my information including any medication I am using.
I am going to photograph the quilt today, it is finally finished. It took way longer to quilt than to make the top! Just hand sewing the binding took about 6 hours! Thank goodness it is finished, I think it might be almost the last Queen size I will make though the Alice one will be pretty big too. Even using QAYG It was really hard work.
Have a lovely day everyone, stay cool. I won’t have any difficulty doing that lol!
I am greatly looking forward to your quilting result!!
I can’t wait to see the quilt pics. You are a miracle worker and so creative with your time. 🙂
Oh, Anne, I love your comment about how, when it’s hot, you “blob until it cools down”!! Made me laugh. That’s what I’ve been doing this week, as it’s been in the mid-to-high 80s. But tonight it is Finally cooling down, and we have rain coming maybe Friday.
Love and prayers for you two, George and Jeanne
