More boots today… this time in brown suede/sherpa

Hi everyone,
Don’t forget: Tonight Chrissa will have to take off the pink suede/sherpa coat and boots and hats because some other mom wants the set for her girl! You’ll find it on Ebay, if you’ve missed it… and you can see it by clicking the picture at the right side-bar, or you can click HERE.

I thought I’d try my hand at another pair of suede boots for the American Girl dolls, tweaking my pattern just a bit… and even as I see these pictures, I want to tweak it again. I’m hoping they will only get better with time… but I just HAVE to get faster or they’ll be $60.00 a pair! EEK! We can’t have that!

Sissy was weeding out her stash of this suede and furry fabric and I went for it… It arrived in the mail today and I picked a pretty brown color in the suede/sherpa and using my slightly revised pattern, tried another pair…

They can be tall… like this…

With the backs looking like this…

Or if you want to turn down the tops, they’ll look like this…

They have the same button tab closure as the pink ones…

These have 2 layers of leather glued together for the sole… with brown mini gimp braid along the edges…

I promise I won’t have another pair of boots tomorrow… but something else…

Thanks everyone,
Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, lI love the brown boots! They will go with a lot of other colors and tney look so comfy, ID like you to make a pair on 9 1/2 too! 😊 The fancy buttons are perfect, and yay, no Velcro there! That makes it easy to put slacks or jeans inside the boots before closing plus there is no snagging on the slacks or tights , like Velcro does.

The soles look wonderful! Will you be making g another outfit to go with them, or selling them by themselves? Once you get the hang of making them, you could make few more and sell them separately, or just hang onto them for outfits next winter.

I hope any of the sofa sisters living in the east are safe and staying in! That is one big snowstorm there! Where, oh where is our warm-up ??

    1. Hi Linda,
I haven’t decided what to put with the boots or just make up several and sell them separately…
      I’m glad you like them!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  2. Charlotte Trayer

The brown suede/sherpa boots turned out very nice. I have to confess, I prefer the pink ones, but that’s because I never wear brown. However, it was my grandma’s favorite color!

Anyway, I am hoping an outfit to go with the boots will be next on the docket!

I have started packing for Expo. Two more sleeps before I leave!!

    1. Joy in northern CA

Looking forward to seeing some pics of the Expo, including your twin outfits and purses. 🙂

    2. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Charlotte, how exciting! I can’t wait for your report.

Your namesake, little miss Charlotte Noelle, says to remind you to take some cookies to eat along the way. According to her, they will give you energy.

    3. Barbara in SE Texas

Can’t wait to see what exciting things you do at expo. And looking forward to seeing pictures of the twinsie items.

    4. Just 2 more days and off to your exciting plans. Hope to see your creation at some point!
      Have a great time.

    5. Hi Charlotte,
Oh, how fun to be going to a sewing, fabric, vendors place and get inspired! I wish I could join you!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  3. Karen from Kentucky

I love the sherpa boots, especially the pink ones! The brown ones are great, too. They look so comfortable and pretty 🙂 I hope Charlotte has a fantastic time at the Expo! =)

Marion is on retreat at the school until Friday. I hope it’s going well.

    1. Barbara in SE Texas

Hi, Karen. What grade is Marion in and what do they do at retreat? Sounds like a wonderful idea. Is it Lenten based?

      1. Karen from Kentucky

Hi Barbara, Marion is in 8th grade. Each grade starting from 6th and going up has a retreat once a year. I’m not sure what the topic is this year for Marion, but she heard a conference on Mary, how it is easier to describe the splendor of the sun, than it is to describe Mary, the Mother of God. I know she heard that conference, because unfortunately, I had to come and bring her home since she became sick there this morning. I might be able to bring her back before it’s over, but I don’t know yet. Rose is in 6th grade and I think her retreat is in May, and that one is to prepare her for Solemn Communion (a special ceremony where they renew their Baptismal Promises and consecrate themselves to Jesus and Mary).
Also, at the retreat they do different activities, a variety of jobs, preparing food, yard work, going on walks, praying the Rosary, listening to talks by the Priest, praying in the chapel… a lot of the time they need to be quiet, but they are allowed to talk at recesses. Oh, also there are Mass and Confessions.

    2. Thank you Karen, for your compliments on the boots. The pink ones are really pretty.
      I’m glad you like them…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  4. These brown boots are very cute. Nice hard soles. I kind of like the closure… it is impossible to put it on the outer side? too clumsy looking or too wide?
I am going to tease you and ask that you try teeny tiny zippers. 😆😆
I love the brown suede, very fancy!
I like the pink design the best. – are those more difficult to put on the doll?
Absolutely delightful and inspiring fiddling around Jeanne, this is good progress.

Guess what? I got a package yesterday from Jeanne!! Anne’s adorable sweater! packaged so nicely, and oh, adorable. I put it immediately on my “Emilia doll” https://myglittergirls.com/product/emilia/ that my daughter gave me as a clothing model.
Both of my AG girls (Samantha and girl of today, Christina) were very enthusiastic at her new possession 🎀🥰. Thank you sincerely Anne. Your sweater is a masterpiece, and a treasure too. Very impressive design! Thank you Jeanne for this give away, I am so happy to be the winner!!!!

Today I am sewing all day. I should be doing other things. I did finish my patch quilt top and two ‘kind of okay’ borders. I want another 4″ border but I am undecided on the fabric. I started a new quilt that has 14.5″ blocks-just patch work. I love the fabric and plan to use various color arrangements, so I am making each section and not sewing the entire blocks so I can arrange and rearrange the patches. I will take photos of all of this and send it to Jeanne, along with Emilia in her gorgeous sweater.
We have sunshine. I hope all of you do too.

    1. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Rosemary, how wonderful that your package arrived. It sounds like Emilia is thrilled to receive her gift.

    2. Thank you for your kind words on the boots, Rosemary… I will have to figure out some way to put the tabs on the outside. I agree, it is hidden…
I found myself looking for just a few minutes at 1.5″ doll zippers… I might try with a longer one I already have and see what happens…

Glad you liked your sweater from Anne. Theresa won the red one and it still hasn’t made it to her… ugh!

  5. Joy in northern CA

Oh, I really like the brown boots. You see people wearing Ugg type boots year around here, so they might be interesting worn with a pair of shorts later in the spring too. 🙂 I would like to also see a pair of ankle length boots in the same fabric. Ankle boots are pretty popular now. They aren’t worn to protect from snow, but for a fashion statement. 🙂 I could see Jeanne, putting her leather stamp on the tab of her boots, like Ugg’s, too. Might be fun. And this is probably my most favorite color brown. This was close to the color of my old jacket from the past. 🙂
There was a sneak peek of a couple of new Ruby Reds yesterday. It’s not like I need any more, but they are cute. We’ll see. 🙂
More rain overnight but I can see a little clearing in the distance. I might try going out and shaking off the water from the daffodils. Poor things.
Hope anyone in the snow zone is starting to dig out. Couldn’t believe the snow depth in NY.

    1. Oh your jacket was this nice brown. Nice.
Mine was a little bit lighter…. I think. But not by much.
I still hope they are happy together somewhere.
You must be tired of the soggy rain.
Sherpa lined boots are so nice!

    2. Hi Joy,
I had the boots fur top pulled all the way down to the ankle, so I know those would be pretty easy to make. I see people wearing them all the time too.
I didnt see the peek at the new Ruby Reds yesterday… I better not look…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. I like the brown boots, very versatile. Like Rosemary, I wondered if the button and tab shouldn’t be on the outside? Maybe not possible though.
Streets are finally almost clear of snow here, but everything else still has a heavy layer. The snowdrops are trying to make their appearance.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Hurray for the snowdrops! I’ve had some that are about bloomed out but are so nice to see when they pop up. 🙂

    2. Hi Laura… I’ll work on the tabs placement for the boots… I wanted to today, but I promised nothing showing boots today!
      Thanks Laura,
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

I see that my note is not here! We are having a big clean out because of friends coming Friday for the Lion’s Club annual oyster roast. Also I am having a big clean out of my enormous amount of stuff I have gathered up since 2000, so much sewing and all I gathered since then. Thank goodness Jeanne wanted to help by being kind to take most of my suede/sherpa and ultra suede off my hands. I had so much of those because I used them for so many work shops I gave over the years. I love what she is doing with it! Her boots are much better than mine.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Don’t cut yourself short. Your boots were perfect, and I’m sure that everyone who took your workshop loved how they turned out. 🙂

    2. Theresa in Indiana

I have several pairs of your boots for my Little Darlings, and they are adorable! And that fact that you gave workshops to teach others how to make them is awesome. Wish I could have gone to one of your workshops. 🙂

      1. Hi Sissy,
I told you in my email to you yesterday, your boots and vests and sandals and hats were WONDERFUL and I meant it! You called your boots “Huggs” didn’t you? I think that was the perfect name…. they DO hug your dolls feet!!
        Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Jeanne, your boots are really wonderful. I love the pink and these brown boots are going to be very versatile for outfits that you make.
I think several ladies will love getting boots like that for their girls.

    1. Thank you Paula,
The response to them has been great and I appreciate everyone’s sweet compliments. Sissy started it for me… she sent me pictures of what she had and my mind started thinking about all the different things I could do with it. I hope it stays fun!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

Another pair of cute boots! I love them in both pink and brown. Will there be a brown jacket and hat?

Anne I left a comment for you yesterday but I actually did it this morning so you have to go back to read it.

    1. Hi Barbara,
I’m not sure what will go with the brown boots… but I’ll get back to them later…
I was looking at Easter fabric tonight…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  10. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Barbara and Joy, I did read your comments this morning.
Joy, We do have mozzies here but, from what I have heard, nothing like over there. I watched an interview with an American who had just moved to NZ and at first the lack of screens on doors and windows concerned him but then he realised they were not really necessary. Our back door is open all the time in the summer from when we get up until we go to bed and we only get a few flies coming in. As an aside, even our zoos and wildlife parks aren’t allowed to have snakes or non-native spiders as exhibits. There have been a few snakes hitch hiking on imports but they are mostly dead from the cold by the time they get here. Unfortunately there have been a couple of deadly sea snakes seen on northern beaches due to global warming and sharks are getting a bit closer to shore than most people are happy about for the same reason. Still, on the whole, the wild life isn’t out to kill you here or even make you miserable. Our Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is very proactive and works very hard to keep it that way.

Barbara, I will try Darren’s port this time if it works out and let you know what I think. I will call him this week to see if he wants to come and pick them. I saw on the news last night that the Marlborough grape harvest (where most of the good NZ wine comes from) is quite a lot earlier than usual. Apparently the changing climate is making the plants flower earlier. Grapes don’t take a lot of looking after, they just need somewhere to go. They also need to be taken back to one or two branches every year so that is a bit of a chore. I wasn’t here last year to do it and Sam didn’t take it far enough back so it will need quite a prune this year.

Jeanne, the boots are lovely. I couldn’t see the first couple of photos until I clicked on the tiny icon and then they were so big I could hardly see them. Then the last 3 or so were normal photos. It might be my computer I really need a new one but there isn’t enough money in the piggy bank yet!

Rosemary I am so glad the jacket arrived safely. I can’t take any credit for the packing, when I sent them all to Jeanne they were in the lightest packaging I could find! a plastic bag. I am looking forward to seeing your quilt. I haven’t done any more on the one for my brother, Sam and I are working on sorting all the boxes of fabric that we have accumulated, along with doing the homework for the quilt class we have started. Today I plan to cut out all the background fabric for the next 13 blocks plus some of the fabric for the borders. I have been working on the EPP blocks as well since I can do that at night.

For those in the North who are suffering under all that snow I watched a video on YouTube a couple of days ago, ‘Britains Winter of 1947’. I heard my parents talk about this quite often since my brother (in UK) was born in Feb that year, when they were living in a small village 7 miles outside Grantham in Lincolnshire. I wish my Dad was still alive to watch it with me, I would have loved to ask him more about it. It had been a mild winter up to the 23rd January then it started snowing and snowed EVERY DAY for 55 days. They still had strict rationing but it became even harsher during that time, even harsher than at the end of the war because food was in such short supply, coal supplies were extremely low and power was cut for 5 hours a day. I knew it had been bad but didn’t realise just how bad. I’ll try to remember that winter when it snows here next lol.

    Have a great day everyone

    1. Marilyn in Colorado

That last paragraph was frightening. For one thing, we’ve not had to recover from a war on our territory since the Civil War — the combination of continued and worsening rationing and lack of heat must have been unthinkably awful, except that the UK was accustomed to unthinkably awful. I read Jambusters, by Julie Summers, and was so impressed by the determined work of the Women’s Institute in adding to the food supply that I went on Ebay and bought a WI pin.

    2. Joy in northern CA

I’ve never heard of the Winter of 47 Must have been something to “not” remember for sure. Freezing and starving. So glad that your family all survived.
We have screens on all windows, but still an occasional mosquito will slip in. Must be so nice to not have to deal with them. What about termites? Now, they seem to thrive here too. Ugh

    3. Hi Anne,
We visited my sister, Cindy and Tom, when they lived in Vermont, about 30 years ago. We went for a walk in their neighborhood and the mosquitoes were HUGE. Tom said the people in Vermont said the mosquitoes were as “big as Buicks!” He was right!!

I hope you’ve had fun sorting all your fabrics for your new quilt blocks!!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  11. Marilyn in Colorado

The new boots are great. The fabric, the buttons, the soles, the trim…. Would snaps work instead of buttonholes? My fingers hate teeny buttons.

    1. Hi Marilyn,
I’m trying you come up with a different closure… maybe even magnetic!!!
      Thanks,
      Blessings, Jeanne
