My hubby had to go back to the ER again… then admitted to the hospital and we are still here. I will spare you all the details, but please keep him in your prayers!!
Fortunately for you, my sister, Cindy, went to Yesteryear Antique Mall in PA, and stopped by the dolly booth. These pictures will give you something to chat about.

Oh, dear, I’m so sorry to hear that George is back in the hospital, Jeanne. You have certainly had quite a summer so far!
You are right, about “lots and lots of dolls”! Such fun to look at! The little porcelain baby doll in yellow, 2nd picture, is so sweet! And that looks like the back of a Raggedy Anne in the 3rd picture–probably a modern version but in a sort of vintage-looking print dress, as her hair looks too “bright” to be really old, I think.
Lots of 8″ Madame Alexander dolls in the 4th picture, as well as some Hummels, I think. My mom always liked Hummels, although she didn’t collect them. I did give her one for her birthday once, though. Oh, and some Nancy Ann storybook dolls, barely seen on the bottom shelf, in their distinctive polka-dot boxes.
Looks like some nice Steiff animals in the 5th picture, along with an assortment of porcelain dolls. And then the sweet Mary Hoyer doll in the 6th picture. I have some Mary Hoyer dolls, but they are the modern ones that Mary’s granddaughter, Lynne Saunders, has brought out in the last 20 years or so, after she restarted her grandma’s company.
I particularly like the Sasha doll in the last picture–and the double wedding ring quilt behind her!! There’s also a more recent Ginny in the box there, too.
I wonder what dolls the rest of the Sofa Sisters will pick out?!
Keeping you and George in prayer, Jeanne. Just today I was telling a friend about this very special group that has gathered around this blog. My friend was surprised at the special closeness we all share despite having never met (most of us, anyway) face to face.
I want to gather up all of these dolls and bring them home 🥰 I love the Steiff animals. My husbands bear is pretty old and very loved.
Jeanne, just think of all the prayers storming Heaven for George, by having this blog! You can be sure of our prayers to comfort you and to know that you aren’t alone. We will always have your back!
Oh, I love looking at older dolls! So many dolls, so little time! The first doll looks to be in very good condition, really not played with at all. I wonder if whoever had her, was told it was only for sitting on a shelf! I could understand that, since she looks like she was pretty pricey. What has always bugged me about those older dolls, namely those thick, dark eyebrows that scared me half to death when I was small! Not that dolls were like that in my times, but when I would see them, they just looked so off putting to me. I prefer pretty, not so stern faces, and more the smiling kind to those.
The third picture shows dolls that were more my “time”. The young girl type were what I loved. I think some in there are Sweet Sue, which I remember getting. While I loved my Betsy Wetsy, with all the water fun, I really did like the more grown up girl dolls the best.
I see some Shirley Temple dolls, which my sister had. And the last picture has a Sonja Henie doll, that was much like my own, except for her costume! Mine was green, but very similar! The quilt in the background of that picture is just like the ones my mother-in-law made and had on the twin beds in her house!
The ceramic angels with the numbers are birthday dolls that I remember giving my dajghter each year for her birthday, and she had displayed in her room. Wonder what happened to them?
The picture of the trunk full of babies is so sweet! I see a side view of a Kewpie doll on the bottom left. And of course, all the little Madame Alexander storybook dolls are always a treat to see. I could have spent hours admiring all those dolls! What a treat for Cindy to send them! Thank you so much, Cindy!
Oh, Jeanne, You are so strong going through all this, and I am praying that the doctors can help George. I am so full of hope for you both.
So many dolls waiting to be found homes. I will look them over again when we get back from the Y. It is nice to have help from those of you who know their names. Talk to you later!!
I do think I see one that is like my red head MA ballerina doll. In the photo she is crowded up in the third scene, and has long red braids. My doll’s hair is in ballerina style.

The thing that stood out for me was the quilt. It looks like someone was a fine needlewoman.
I agree that the baby doll in yellow is special. A friend has a doll room. I could use one. Looking around, I see that I really need a book room. It occurs to me that some of you might like my ltest books — Alison Weir’s new 4 volume series on pre- Elizabethan English queens — Queens of the Conquest, Queens of the Crusades, Queens of Chivalry, and Queens at War. I’m on the first one, and have read about Matilda of Flanders (the Conqueror’s wife, who had 10 children and was frequently regent for her husband in Normandy), Matilda of Scotland (wife of Henry I, whose father was King of Scotland until he was deposed by Duncan, whom MacBeth did not kill, contrary to Shakespeare).
Matilda’s brother retook the throne, making her a princess once again, and therefore a suitable queen candidate. If that were not confusing enough, in her pre-queen period, her name was Edith — it was changed to honor her mother-in-law.) Edith/Matilda had 2 children, the girl was named — surprise — Matilda, but called Maud. Maud became Empress of the Holy Roman Empire. Edith/Matilda’s sister Mary had a daughter named Matilda, who married King Henry’s favorite nephew, Stephen. When Henry’s son drowned, Stephen became Henry’s heir, giving England a 3rd Queen Matilda. Maud felt she should have been the heir, and led a civil war — the Empress Maud/Matilda vs. King Steven and his queen, Maud’s cousin Matilda. Eventually they agreed that Stephen would rule, but Maud’s son Henry would be Stephen’s heir. Henry, you will be happy to know, refrained from marrying a Matilda, but instead ran off with the French Queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, who, as queen and wife of Henry II, produced 2 future kings, Richard (the lion-hearted) and John (of Magna Carta fame). Neither married a Matilda, and no queen afterward was called Matilda.

Thank you dear Cindy for these photos. wowie, These babies look so well loved, I can just imagine all of the charming tender care by such lucky little girls (old and young) these sweet dolls received. My grand daughter Lauren has so many dolls, and many babies. She is 8. Last week she had her first open house dolly day care, for the “new babies”. So cute.
When we lived in Germany, and in France, my sisters and I had a lot of Hummel figurines. We used to play with them.
I hope today is a good day for George, Jeanne. I hope he can bust out of there and come home with you to his lush property, the girls in the coop, and the gardens.
The house sale? We sold the house in a jiffy for way over asking price, since we had 7 offers. I was not expecting it to play out like this. There are so so many houses on the market. I think our agent and her busy worker bees did a terrific job making the house look beautiful.

Bonjour. Je pense très fort à vous et je pense,qu’avec toutes ces prières et ces pensées,tout doit bien aller,pour votre mari. Mon petit fils,était aux urgences,la semaine dernière. Il est autiste asperguer et de ce fait,ne ressent pas l’envie d’aller aux toilettes ;l ‘urine remonte dans le rein et provoque une infection ! Il doit se sonder plusieurs fois par jour et ne le fait pas : Il a 17 ans et a du mal à comprendre… Ici,il fait toujours aussi chaud , 38 °aujourd’hui. Demain,14 juillet,c’est notre fête nationnale , mais il n’y aura pas de feux d’artifice à cause des incendies ,qui sont nombreux .Les jardins sont secs et hier,il y a eu un incendie , ( probablement criminel )dans la forêt de Fontainebleau. C’est une belle forêt,au sud de Paris ,à côté de chez moi..! Si vous suivez la coupe du monde,demain ,notre équipe doit gagner … Jeanne ,meilleure santé pour votre époux, j’espère que vous rentrerez vite chez vous. Amitiés à vous toutes ,vous êtes un groupe fantastique et j’aimerais vous connaître .
Georgina, Sam’s three children are all autistic in varying degrees but fortunately not like your grandson. In fact the eldest is quite the opposite. He won’t use a handtowel in the bathroom that may have been used by someone else, When he empties the dishwasher he washes his hands and then washes them again after he has finished doing it. When he takes the rubbish bins to the kerb he has to change all his clothes and refuses to bring them back up the path when they have been emptied (about 12 hours later) because he doesn’t want to have to change again! Strangely his room is hardly ever cleaned!!!!! Go figure.
I will be thinking of you tomorrow morning. England play on Thursday morning (Wednesday evening for you). I won’t be watching it live as I have a meeting that morning but it is one of the few games that are being shown free to air so I am recording it and will watch it when I get home.
Do you live anywhere near Porche-Fontaine? I lived there for 6 months after I was married. Prior to that I was in the WRAC and stationed at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe) Headquarters not far from Versailles. SHAPE moved to Belgium about 1967 I think, not too long after we left.
This is not what I wanted to hear this morning at all. I’m so concerned about George and Jeanne. I hope that they can curb the infection and that George starts feeling better right away. Maybe he had too many of those gorgeous tomatoes?
However, seeing all of those fabulous dolls this morning makes up for the bad news, sort of. The dolls are displayed so very well. Each photo has so much interest too. Thanks to sister Cindy, for sharing them. The things that caught my eye were in the third photo with the shelves. On the top shelf I spotted some Jill and even Jeff dolls. Jill was Ginny’s older sister and Jeff her boyfriend, I guess. I had Jill but always wanted that cute dressing table/stool in the picture. I love the small trunk with the dolls all peeping out. So fun to see all the pics.
Yesterday, we had our yearly reunion at my cousin’s ranch. It was fun seeing everyone. My youngest cousin, husband, and their two 20’s kids just returned from three weeks in Africa. Wow, what a trip they enjoyed. Their goal was to see the animals and boy did they ever. You had to be hardy to enjoy the adventure which involved lots of scary small plane rides from one country to another, never walking anywhere without a guide, (safety and poachers) and even that balloon ride over the Serengeti. Accommodations were mostly in canvas tent like structures that had beds and bathrooms, fortunately, with showers there or nearby that included hot water. 🙂 But the best part was being in nature with the animals. It was like being at a zoo, but without any cages. Funny thing, they had to have a ton of shots for various things that fortunately, we don’t have here, spaced out for months before they left. All the information went onto a yellow card, not the soccer kind, that they safely carried with them as they went from country to country. The funny part was that they were never asked to see their cards at any time. TIA. This was the term used very often during their trip. Meaning, This is Africa! They did say that Victoria Falls was spectacular, the animals were so worth the trip, and they have hundreds of photos. 🙂
Get well soon George, and Jeanne, try to get some rest too.
Maybe they’ll share some of the photos. George might like those almost as much as the chicken pix.

I forgot Ginny had an older sister named Jill and I never knew there was a boy doll. Interesting.
I lost the chance to get Hazel. I really loved her outfit more than the doll. That’s ok though, I’m on the hunt for another doll.
Sounds like you cousin and her family had a terrific time in Africa. What a thrill to see the African animals.
Sorry you missed out on Hazel. I think she sold out in a couple of hours. But, there will be more fun ones available soon. It is always a surprise to see the next dolls.

Love the Steiff animals. The puppy, pony, and bunny are so sweet. the bear looks the same as the growling one I have. He’s safely stored in the cedar chest.
I do remember the ceramic birthday dolls although I never had one.
Laura, I still have my grandmother’s Hummels as well as some I bought when I was in Germany at age 20. My 2 faves are her book end Hummels. They are pretty large, sitting back to back reading books while they hold up some books. I wanted to play with them when I was little, but she gave them to me when I was much older.

We have Hummel bookends also, but different from yours. The little girl has a rooster, hen, and chicks, and the little boy has two goats. On each side there is a split rail fence. We have a few lamps as well.

I always wanted a 36” Shirley. I e always loved her movies.
On a trip through LA and several neighborhoods around LA, we drive past the house she grew up in. What a treat.

Great to see all the dolls today. It always amazes me how knowledgeable you all are and how many dolls you recognise. However, in my defence, I grew up just after the war in UK when there was still rationing and there weren’t many named dolls around then and no TV, so no advertising aimed at children. When we did get a TV when I was about 9 or 10 it was BBC only so no advertising then either. American Girl, Ginny, Madam Alexander are all new names to me, names I only heard just before I joined the blog or just after.
