Hi everyone,
I can hardly believe I managed to get Felicity’s dress listed on Ebay! But here’s the kicker!! Do you know WHEN I STARTED Felicity’s dress? Neither did I, so I had to go back to see what day I started it! After MUCH scrolling back to previous posts, I found it! It was MAY 26th!!! MAY TWENTY SIXTH!!! 45 days ago! YIKES! Between my hubby’s surgeries and me falling and hurting my neck and head, it has been a crazy month and a half.
This is a picture of the first day showing Felicity would be the next model.
Poor Felicity! She was beginning to think this was the dress that was never going to be finished! (Me too!) But wonders never cease. It’s done and it’s listed on Ebay. I’m still not able to post any pictures at the right sidebar and make it so you can click on the picture and be taken straight to the listing. However I CAN leave you a link to the listing… and will try and remember to list it a few times before it ends. So, I just snapped this pic of one of our artichokes that is flowering and will go to seed. I would like to see if I can get some more started as over the years, some others have died off. I love the blue color of the flowers and so do the native bees and lots of others.
The other pic is of youngest grand, middle guy on their bikes at their neighborhood parade. Everyone turns out for it. Kind of like a low-key fun event with no particular rules except walk/ride in the parade. Looks like fun to me. 🙂

Joy, I LOVE that artichoke plant/flower! I had NO idea they were so beautiful! I hope you are successful in getting more to grow!

I am happy to say my car is back, and looking like new again! They not only repaired the damage, but the washed the car, and vacuumed the interior for me! I’m so happy to have it back!
And I can’t remember if I mentioned, but two days ago my wonderful neighbors to the north brought over a large bouquet of flowers! When I called to thank them, Tina said, “we just thought you needed some cheering up”. That was so thoughtful.
I am so happy your car is back in shape and spit spot clean too. Really great, Charlotte, the kitchen was a blast. Real estate in Virginia has always been a great adventure. Many many years ago, hubbs and I bought a house on Cricket Lane, fixed it up and sold it in 5 years for double the price we paid!!
Anyway, this is a nice kitchen, however, honestly!! sometimes too big is really TOO big.

Has it really been a month and half since Felicity’s dress was started, Jeanne? My goodness, I had no idea! Well, it certainly did turn out beautifully, and you certainly had good reasons for taking so long. It’s a beautiful set and no matter what the season, Felicity will wear it with pride!
Before I forget, I don’t know what is going on, but sometimes my comments don’t go through immediately, like they usually do, so I comment again, then lo and behold, the first comment also appears with the second one. That’s why I have two of the same thing with the chicken recipe: the first one didn’t appear until I wrote it again!
Wow, Joy, that artichoke flower is amazing! Who knew they had a flower? We don’t seem to be able to grow artichokes here, so I am not familiar with them as a plant as I am in a can!
What fun your family must have had on the Fourth! Good old fashioned fun with the neighborhood! And what a good looking family you have!

Jeanne, Felicity’s dress is beautiful. I am sure many watchers on eBay were waiting for your next creation. You were involved in priorities and care giving. Sort of like “too many pots on the stove” And look at us, we chattered away over a month. I learned a lot about all of you.

Joy, I love your photos. I have never seen an “aubergine” (eggplant) flower. Why are we not shocked at it’s purple charm! You must have had to sneak up to take this shot. It is perfect.

I think I mentioned this yesterday, but our new house is the size of one level of the old house, and our yard is a postage stamp. It is a bit shocking but also kind of good.
This is the first time we have sold a house without still living in it, also the first time we took a whole year. Extraordinary circumstances, and a gift from my father He never told us about his pile of money. Investing was a “fun game” for him. His goal was not to become a rich fat cat… just playing with money. The sum became enormous because he lived to 100. He grew up very very poor in Holland. I correspond with my outspoken cousin (mom’s brother’s son) in Holland. He read daddy’s diary from is time as a POW, taken up in the Nazi razzia. He asked my why my father did not go into hiding like my uncle and grampa did. Well, mainly to not be a burden to his parents and also…. my dad was never good at being “sneaky”
My mother’s dad and brother hid under the floor boards of their house. I do not think there was anywhere to hide in my father’s tiny dwelling.
Last evening we had another very loud thunderstorm and huge buckets of rain! Today the sun is out. It is going to be a warm day and temps going back up as usual.

What a great family home for someone! I was reminded of our forever home that we gave up when the kids moved east. I will never quit missing it because I don’t love where we live now. We made a decision based on price on an unloved property-too much house, too much property. I told my daughter she could put a tiny house in her backyard and I would be happy. I know you are loving your downsize. Good luck with the sale!
Oh wouldn’t that be the best? to live right out back of your daughter. My oldest daughters husband’s grandparents are living in … Texas I think, they live in a little house behind their youngest daughter, on their property. What a sweet set up. Well, the adjustment to this house has not been easy. I do love a lot of it, but I have always had struggles with “change”. We are estranged from my younger daughter and her cute family😭 I have explained that all before here on Jeanne’s sofa. I am just trying to pretend I am brave. I hope it gets better. Down sizing is quite difficult when you have taken care of your parents until they went to Heaven, then gone carefully through their things, and all of their possessions and treasures, and then you must go through your own. So, with that said, I encouraged hubbs, and myself, to just pack up and label and save anything we are not sure of. This house is pretty full, but I hope to give away, throw away 1/3 of it over the next year 🙄 ….. at present, I am kind of weary of the task. Thank you Debbie for your uplifting encouragement.
We will be doing that chore together. I could not sleep feeling like I was a prisoner of our possessions. We have moved twice. The first move 15 years ago was to a smaller home. We cried when we left the home where raised our children. All of their childhood things and much of our furniture just given away. After 10 years we moved to be geographically closer to our children, bought a bigger house and more furniture, artwork and rugs. Now I feel trapped and have not fit in here. I think a little clear out will help.
I loved seeing Felicity’s photos. Understandably, inside with the heat etc. but she shines where ever she goes in that great dress. I really do love that dress fabric. Can’t wait to watch the listing.
I didn’t expect to see my pics this morning, but wanted Jeanne to see how old the grands are getting. Surprise, for me. Thanks for sharing them Jeanne.
I was surprised this morning to see an email from Ruby Red. My Rosa, is already at the HKong airport. So, I figure that she will arrive here early next week if she gets a flight to LA over the weekend. I haven’t had much luck lately sneaking in dolls, so I should be on the look out and ready for action on this one. I would love to see a dress for the Ruby Reds made from the same fabric as Felicity’s sweet Colonial outfit. I wonder if there are any scraps left to make something in her size?
I did get to some more clearing yesterday. I managed to dig out another clump of blackberry. Takes so much time. It looks like we’re in for some hot weather over the weekend and maybe even dry lightning and some drops. I can only hope that all of those weed seeds laying around don’t decide to sprout. Guess I’ll find out.
Very glad to hear that Charlotte’s car is back and shiny too.
And I sent the chicken recipe to other person so that he could print it for me. Well, guess who wants chicken for dinner tonight? He thought that the recipe sounded delicious. Thank you Linda.
We’re headed to my cousin’s ranch north of here on Sunday, for the annual family picnic. All three of my first cousins will be there. Fun!

A neighborhood parade for the 4th. Sounds like a lot of fun. You have a lovely family. How old are your grands now? I think they are close in age to mine. When I saw your artichoke flower I was wondering if it was different from the ones you eat since I’ve didn’t know they had a flower. Very beautiful and I love the color.
Let’s see, oldest grand is 15, middle grand 13, and youngest little guy is 10. As to the artichoke, the artichoke is actually the flower of the plant. When you leave them on the plant and don’t cut them for dinner, they will eventually keep growing, open up, and flower. That color is so amazing to me.

Tks Sissy. Grands live an hour and a half away and cousin is a half hour north of here, so fairly close. I’m a little worried about Sunday for the picnic which is usually outside on a hilltop in the mountains. We have dry lightning expected. Not good if you are out in an exposed area, but guess that we can always move it inside. It is a neat spot though where you can see the lake and almost to the coast.

I’ll have to read them when I get through reading today’s but I did look at the pictures though and could not get over how adorable the outfits were that Sissy made for her little girls. I loved the designs and the choices of material used! – very patriotic. The poses too were so cute. Loved the one with the host.
Jeanne, the under garment you made for Felicity is beautiful! I agree with her in wishing she could wear it as a skirt too. And the basket with the tomatoes is perfect. Love the doile in the basket too.
Joy, it was really nice to see photos of your daughter and her family. Your daughter and granddaughter are beautiful and your grandsons and son- in- law are handsome guys. I love those sunglasses your youngest grandson is wearing. His whole outfit is very patriotic and cleverly fun.

Wow, it has been a looooong time for Felicity’s dress. It is just lovely though and I’m sure she is pleased. She should definitely get one or two more modeling chances soon because she is the Girl of the Year, after all.

Forgot to mention I enjoyed seeing your old house, Rosemary. I could cook and bake up a storm in that kitchen. The vaulted ceilings and the view from upstairs to the lower level are really lovely.

With two teen age daughters, double ovens and lots of girl friends, we had many cooking and baking storms in that kitchen. It was really fun.

Compared to the length of time it takes me to sometimes finish an outfit, you were quite timely. And a lovely outfit it is. I had to look up pinner cap to see why they called it that. But they mentioned that caps were worn by women to keep their hair clean. Not sure how much good a pinner cap would do for that but they did mention “fashionable” and “stylish” so I guess a pinner cap was often worn to accent an outfit. I know it sure does this one. The whole outfit is so sweet. I like Joy’s idea of using the fabric to make something for the Ruby Reds if you have enough to do that.
All the while Rosemary was talking about going to the “old house” to clear things out I didn’t realize the amount of downsizing she was actually doing. I would be happy as a little clam living in that house it is so lovely. I’m finally getting my 1945 house changed up to suit me with a modern kitchen and an indoor utility room, not to mention another bathroom and my fabulous storage building but all that took 36 years Both homes we owned were older homes and required work. I’ve never been able to go house hunting and pick exactly what I want. But our house is a nice size and allows me to have a sewing room so I’m good.
This has been an interesting week. The guys were home Wednesday night because they had an equipment breakdown and came home to find something to fix the problem then were off again yesterday. Today they are coming home early because the fix didn’t work so they have to try something else. But all this just prolongs the job. The heat makes the days difficult for them and it looks like our annual trip to the water park may not happen this year. I was looking forward to a dip in the pool there while the rest of them rode the slides. But the kids go back to school early August and time is running out.
It is hard to believe that school will be back in session soon. I remember when September, was back to school. 🙂
Felicity’s dress is perfect for fall! The trims, petticoat, and pinner are the right touches to set her back in colonial times. Those tomatoes will be tasty with a light summer meal. I hope George is feeling better.
I am super busy this week but did see Sissy’s darling patriotic outfits for Mae. I know you had fun creating all those outfits and were able to share them with some collectors.

I am struggling with ‘feline paralysis’ at the moment (i.e. I have a cat on my lap!) and I can’t get to my keyboard, I have to use my laptop keyboard which is higher on the desk.
Ever since Luna had her asthma attack last summer she has been a different cat. Much more vocal, and way more affectionate but most worrying is her weight loss. No matter what we give her she doesn’t put any weight on. The Vet couldn’t find anything wrong but I wonder if she had a stroke when she had the asthma? I am going to have to move her because Sam and I have our Alice class today and she isn’t up yet!!
Linda, Sam and I had your chicken recipe when you put it up before, it was delicious. Our stuffing mix is quite different to yours though so It didn’t work as well the second night, the stuffing absorbed all the remaining liquid. If/when I make it again I will do only enough for one night.
I will have to go, we have to leave at 9am and it is 7.40 and need to get this girl up.
