In the Seattle area we seem to have jumped on the HOT wagon! At least for another day. Today it got to 92°, and tomorrow it’s supposed to get to 94°! As with snow, getting temperatures like that is not normal for us, at least in the long term, and of course our house, which was built in 1968, has no air conditioning. Tonight after supper I took a ride in my a/c car and went to the store!
Relief is on the way, though–Thursday should be back into the more “normal” summer temps, of high 70s to low 80s. On the weather forecast tonight, they said there could even be some passing thunderstorms on Thursday.
I hope you will have an update for us soon, Jeanne. We are all keeping you and your family in our prayers. And remember, if you read this, there’s at least one set of photos (in two emails) in your inbox to use when you are ready!
The weather! We here in the Midwest are always talking about it, because we get so much varied weather, and it can be very unpredictable most of the time! Yesterday we were suffocating with horribly hot, humid weather, as we were for several days. Today, just plain relief! Lower humidity, makes a world of difference! Cooler too! Being outside, working, or just relaxing, is a joy now! You can really appreciate nice weather when you have extremes like we have.
One of our local meteorologists on tv is from Sunnyside, California and was doing the weather there, but nothing much was happening, so she took a job here and now she has her hands full! Joy might have something to say about that!
It will heat up again, because after all, it is summer in late July. I’m more than ready for some crisp, cool fall weather!

I’m not familiar with a town called Sunnyside in CA, but looked it up and there is an area in south San Francisco called that. And two other places, one by Fresno, to the south and another somewhere in the mountains. But, no real town with that name. There is a Sunnyvale, to the south of SF. Just curious. 🙂
When I look at the heat in St. Louis, I cringe. So many of the homes here or in SF do not have air conditioning. Usually not needed. If we have hot days, they usually only last a couple of days and then the fog rolls in to cool us back down. We actually love fog because it usually lifts and we have comfortable weather. But, I must admit, with climate change, the little window AC we put in has been so helpful. Really cools down the place enough to be comfortable. 🙂
You know, Joy, it just might have been Sunnyvale, sonce she lived close to San Francisco. I know it was Sunny something!
Yes, our weather has been horrible, but today is wonderful, finally! It’s the humidity that makes it so uncomfortable. It could be 73 and humid and just horrible, but 73 can also be quite wonderful with no humidity.
There is no way a home here would be built without central air conditioning! I mean, I grew up with no air conditioning, but not nowadays. A window air conditioner would cool one room, that’s all and you have to keep the door closed to that room.
Did you send pictures of your new girls? “Somebody” would love to see them!
No pics yet. It actually was sprinkling this morning and around 69. I’ll have to get on that soon. 🙂
Weather here is just the same, going up to 96. We do have a breeze at least.
Peyton is making one of my favorite breakfasts, cheese grits and fried eggs. Yesterday I made the family fave cookies to send to my younger son, Tommy, for his birthday. I will also send him some jam I made and also his fave, home made pear chutney. We have two pear trees and I used to get lots of pears from them but the squirrels found them about 5 years ago. Now I have to call on friends that have pear trees, or sometimes the guy that has a vegetable stand can find some for me. I make two kinds of pear jam every fall. We are never out of something to put on our breakfast bread. Making home made jam started with my dad. He loved jam but he really loved tomato jam and it was hard to find so I started making it for him. I don’t make that any more but maybe I should try it again. I do like to make jam.
Jeanne dear, all I can think of is that you must be staying at George’s side and having time for nothing else right now. So far, Charlotte and I have sent photos for you, but there is no need to use them until you have time. We are all on the sofa, missing you, praying for you and George, but enjoying each other. God bless and keep you both.

Well folks, lets talk about this weather! Did you like that rain storm after dinner last evening? At 7:15, the sky grew dark as a charcoal briquet, it looked like it was 9:30.
Did it bring any relief after the very humid day? Nooooo
This morning, go ahead, open the sliding door and put your head out on the screened porch, it is only 71º now but very humid. You can hear the crickets and other critters in the woods, singing about Summer.
It is going up to 87º this afternoon. There is very little chance of rain. Yes, we are grateful for the rain we got yesterday. Kitty Princess will sit out on the porch all day!
I hope all of you dear sisters accomplished some good things yesterday. I deep cleaned Princess’s Paradise room upstairs. Now, it sparkles! I zippy cleaned 3 bathrooms! Go me!
OH! and I washed sheets! wow, amazing. By the end of the day, my neck hurt. Maybe it is arthritis or something. I might email my NP and ask her for an xray. Xrays are great, they show you all of the crumbling.
Today I am gonna go to Homie Depot and get some dirt. I had some dirt, but hubbs used it at the old house to repair some lawn stuff, so that is great, I need some dirt. When I get home, I might go over to the neighbors and have a look at what they have been up to, and give them the two table mats I made for them. I show them on my flickr page. They are woven star blocks and kind of fun to make. Some time I have to clean/tidy up the mess here at the dining room table (that we never use) It is my sweet mother in laws beautiful American Black Walnut! It has kind of a “Stickley” style look to it with straight tapering legs.
Under neath all of the block sewing and table mat assembly scraps, I have some blouse patterns I need to think about. Aaah sewing. The AC is working better upstairs, so perhaps I should go up there and do a few quick tidy ups.
I still have a single mattress and box spring in the piano room/library down stairs. I am going to order two water proof covers, and probably move them upstairs to Princess’s Paradise room. Ugh, this house is still kind of disheveled but that is okay. I refuse to be overwhelmed!!
I hope all of you have a happy snappy day. Please stay cool and fresh and hydrated. If you do not have AC, then get some reading done! Charlotte, brilliant idea to drive around with the AC in the car.
Right now it’s a nice 73. Rain last night cooled things down so decent sleep was possible. The lawns look grateful. The 10 day forecast shows 9 days of rain! That may help keep fires down. Air quality remains not good, though the skies look clear. We do get smoke from Canada. In the past, the Canadians have sent planes to help with our fires. I wonder if we’re doing the same for them.
I wonder if drone technology will help fight fires. That would be a major advance.
Two or 3 summers ago, one of the planes looked familiar — from WWII movies. Then I saw in the paper that it was a WWII plane. It was finally grounded, but I loved seeing it.

Thank you for this write up. I am glad hubbs has not mentioned going to the theater and seeing this…. again. I will read up. Perhaps I can read the book again and study up.
Oh boy did we have a hot one yesterday. I think it hit 94, but was so humid and well uncomfortable. I watered several times to keep the cukes happy but the lawn in front looks like fried rice. Way too hot for us being only 20 miles from the Pacific. And, autumn is coming quickly. We have lots of leaves already falling and an early grape crop. After yesterday’s heat, we’re supposed to only get into the 70’s today. Guess I’ll have to get out and make up for slugging around inside yesterday.
I also had another delivery of a doll box due. I perused the porch on and off, but nothing appeared. I checked tracking and it said still out for delivery. So I started writing an email to a friend in the late afternoon. Right in the middle, I felt the urge to check the porch once again. I figured that other person would be on the couch near the door, but nope, he was in the office. So, I popped open the door to discover Charlotte, the kitty from next door laying on the coolish concrete by the door awaiting her next handout. Nothing on the porch, but fortunately, in the stifling heat, I did look a little beyond. There was a doll box laying flat on the first step in the beating unbearable sun. Of course, I quickly came to the rescue grabbing the box and really not concerned about other person appearing from the office at all. I had to save that box from it’s fiery location. As Charlotte, watched in anticipation, I quickly went back inside mentioning to Charlotte, that I would be right back, and closed the door to the unrelenting heat. Not a peep was heard from the office as I quickly deposited the box in the secret location and then scurried into the kitchen to prepare Charlotte’s next meal. And that was it! Box inside and now awaiting opening. I can only hope that the heat treatment did not bother little Jolli doll, Lisa, too much. I’m hoping that box opening might be today. 🙂
And of course, I think all of us are hoping for some good news from Jeanne and George. I’m sure that we will get an update soon. Sometimes waiting is a good thing as you can be assured that all avenues are being investigated.
I am so happy for you! Yay, I hope you can take both dollies out and hug them.

I did manage to perform my sewing room task yesterday in spite of having to do a lot one handed. But I’ve decided I already have too many dolls since it seems no matter how I try to arrange them it’s a tight fit wherever it is. All I kept thinking about while I was reorganizing was where in the world does Joy put all the dolls she has? I have a lot of catching up to do on the blog because I discovered in order to get anything done I have to stay off the computer which means putting my blog reading on hold for a couple days. But I did read your latest episode of “Dolls of our Lives” and was intrigued as always at your ability to make your dolls “disappear” from view.

It has been so hot here lately it is horrible. We got some much needed rain yesterday, though not a lot.
Today is a most welcome relief. Right now it is 71, sunny, and a good breeze. Really gorgeous. It even felt slightly chilly when I first went outside this morning. Ahhhh!
We felt the same here after the heat yesterday. Very pleasant right now and I think 69. And we did have some very light mist which was nice to feel on our walk.
I am in the middle of Texas, 20+ minutes from Austin and It is 92 degrees currently and 101 is expected between 3 and 6 pm! There is an extreme heat warning, expected to last until 8 pm. Wind gusts are up to 12 mph, but I am not noticing any wind yet. I stepped out onto the front porch and it is STIFLING out there….nearly takes your breathe away….so turned around and came right back into the AC!
Temps into the high 90’s to 100 are expected for the next two weeks with partial clouds on a few days but no rain is expected. I imagine the heat advisory will remain in place for a while. I took the trash bag out to the trash container on the driveway the other day…the garage is attached to the home by a covered breezeway, so the garage has no air conditioning. I thought I would almost pass out from the heat in the garage and then on out to the driveway! The heat makes you take shorter, smaller breaths, but all I could think of was how in the world did the early Texas settlers manage with the heat, day in and day out.
I moved to Texas a few years ago to be able to see two of my daughters more often, and I really hated the cold, snowy days in northern Indiana. But with climate change and more of the Texas infrastructures compromised, it would be difficult to live in a home with no air conditioning, at my age. We own two small 10 inch fans and I’m waiting for Walmart or Target to put their 20 inch fans on sale near the end of summer months, just to have them on hand if needed. I used to have 2 large box fans when I lived in Indiana and had a home with no AC…but I don’t know what happened to them. Of course, fans would be of no help if the power is off for some reason.
One thing about Texas….I rarely see any home owners outside tending their yards or even just sitting on porches or patios…most have lawn folks who show up to mow and trim. I told my daughter that we seldom ever see any children outside playing and she said their computers and cellphones keep them busy inside. And many people keep their blinds and curtains closed during the day as well. It can be so quiet at times that the neighborhood feels like a “movie setting” and the cast haven’t arrived yet!
Other person talks occasionally about when he had a summer job mowing etc. at a retirement community. No one around. Everyone inside, but he would often see curtains/blinds move, and he knew that someone inside was peeking out and watching. He thought that it was odd. Kind of sad really.
Yeaaah…. I am one of those peepers. hahahah 🥸 just kidding.
Here we have an assortment of people. of course our community is kind of dense, so there are neighbors puttering in their yards, or some sit in their garage. Our house faces north, so we have shade much of the day in the front, I will sit out there for a while. Now I sit on my back porch to be with KittyPrincess. I can stand it for about 10 minutes. It is pretty hot. Today we do have a breeze.
Yes, I do recall playing outside all summer as a kid. Well, if it got too hot, kids would come and play inside our garage. We were the weird family that had a carpet, or some kind of big rug on the one side of the garage, (even though a car parked over it sometimes) and we had two book shelves of books and toys and games. I also had a little record player. we would try to dance hahahahah
Sounds like you had a great gathering place growing up. 🙂 We played in our garage a lot too, but mostly roller skating. 🙂
Ohhhh yes, I remember rollerskating too. I miss those days
When it got too hot in the afternoon in PA we kids retired to the basement until it started cooling off. Or sometimes I would sit underneath a tree with a Nancy Drew book. But at that time the area had low humidity.
I’ve been in SE Texas since 1969 and I still can’t get used to the summers here. When I go to PT in the afternoons by the time I go from the car to the door I’m already tuckered out. Just a few feet of stifling heat can slow you down. I just keep thinking how much more energetic I would feel if it were a cooler time of year. My garage is attached to my house but it’s not climate controlled so when I step out of the house and go through the garage it feels like a sauna. I too often wondered how the early Texas settlers put up with it but I also wonder when we have an Arctic blast in the winter how they endured that. But I can tell you that people who have had families here for generations don’t mind the heat as much as I do but the cold bothers them more.
The weather!!! Well it is quite tropical at the moment, 8C, and the expected high is 15C so a pretty nice day. It all turns to custard tonight and tomorrow and the weekend the temps will plummet and there will be snow to low levels, We are at sea level so I think unlikely here. My friend heard that there will be snow on Sunday here, so I really hope not.
The temperatures that most of you endure consistently in the summer are almost beyond my comprehension. NZ has a temperate climate and Christchurch has very little humidity. When I lived in Napier in the N. Island my shoes in the wardrobe frequently had mould on them. That never happens here. However, the hole in the ozone level is right above NZ so we have very high levels of melanoma. People burn very quickly, at primary school the children aren’t allowed outside in the summer without a uniform hat, these are proper sunhats not caps. Little kids swimwear is long sleeved and down to their knees, like something from the 1900’s. Adverts run all summer on TV, “slip, slop, slap, slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat.”
Changing the subject, when I was sewing yesterday, my machine started playing up. When I lifted my foot off the pedal the machine kept sewing and speeding up! It has happened before but now it does it all the time. I can sew but only on the lowest speed which would take me forever if I did everything on that speed. I am going to have to use the Janome, which is the machine Sam uses, and I have to attach a walking foot, not as convenient as the one on the Elna which is built in. It is 15 yrs old so I probably need to replace it but the equivalent one is now $7000, more than double what I paid for this one. Actually, Dad gave me half the money so I am attached to it anyway. I will have to get it fixed before the next Alice class or Sam and I will be fighting over the one machine, so will take it in this morning. I was saving for a new printer but between the computer and the sewing machine I think I will manage with the one I have!

I was raised in PA in a temperate climate. We were outside from early spring to fall without skin problems. But here it’s different. It’s subtropical and the sun is so strong I would never take my kids or grandkids to the pool until 3 p.m. And now that I’m older when I go swimming it is with swim leggings and a long-sleeved rash guard shirt.
You should see if there is a sewing machine shop in your area. We have a few
here in Northern Virginia that still do mechanicals. I can mostly maintain my mechanicals myself. Good luck Anne.
I got a surprise watching the news this evening. I hadn’t for a few days so forgot about the Tropical Depression that was off Florida. I just found out it’s heading our way and should be here tomorrow. Mostly wind and some rain. Hopefully it doesn’t do as Allison did one year and become a tropical storm and then stay over Houston doing some serious flood damage. We here just 35 miles west of west Houston got nary a drop and we could have used some of that. Today was just hot, hot, hot and where David and the boys are doing the job the heat index was horrible. But they were careful and they were mostly running machines with covers over the top and were taking care to stay hydrated. David called this evening to tell me they managed fine.
Here it is, almost 2 a.m. (Pacific time) on Thursday, and no blog post from Jeanne. I hope that no news is good news, but I have to say, I am concerned. Praying for Jeanne and George, and their family….
And now it is 4:00 a.m. CDT, and no post from Jeanne. I too am concerned, and hope it is just that she forgot to send it. My prayers are with them.

This morning it is 63º and breezy. KittyPrincess is really miffed about this situation on her screened porch. Too chilly!
This morning I might go to craft club. I have not been in months! I will bring some sewing.
I hope we will hear from Jeanne soon. I just hope and pray for comfort and peace for both of them. I know all of their worry and concerns have been exhausting.
I was hoping that my computer was off, not Jeanne. I see that is not true. Praying hard is all we can do right now, and keep looking to see if we hear from her.
It really is great to hear from everyone even when there is no blog! I can’t thank you all enough for carrying on. This makes my morning.
As to dollies, I had some time to open boxes while other person went to Safeway late yesterday. Now, Rosa, is dressed and so is the latest little Jolli girl. They are pretty cute. I now, have yet another doll that ended up in the Chicago airport. From past experience, she will be there until being picked up and put into a container truck and hauled back to southern CA. Only then, will I get a tracking update. So, maybe I’ll hear something next week.
Our weather has cooled down and we have a lot of fog this morning. However they are saying that it will be 86. Not sure how that can happen with it being so cool this morning, but guess we’ll find out. I got absolutely nothing done in the yard yesterday. Bad me. So hopefully, I can get back on track again.
I’m hoping that we hear something from Jeanne, soon and that it is good news. I’m sure that she is very busy with all going on. Just know that we’re all thinking of you, Jeanne, and keep the faith.

Early this morning my brother’s wife gave birth to their second baby in the bathroom at home. This time it’s a girl. Audra Brooklyn. Her daddy was born in the bathroom at home, too. Jan. 1st. They are doing alright. She came slightly earlier than expected. 🙂
It sounds like she is okay and baby too. I can’t imagine a bathroom delivery, but her father too? So your brother was also delivered in the bathroom? What a great story.
Yes, my parents had gone to the hospital earlier that day but were sent home. Dad went outside to the barn or somewhere and then Adam came. They drove back to the hospital in a snowstorm. It was Jan. 1st so the hospital claimed him as their first baby of the year but he wasn’t really born there. And he got in the newspaper.

The bathtub is a great place to have a baby – better than in the back seat of a car. 🥰

We also have a black cat now named Midnight who is very sweet. And we got her a tower recently. And a new Boston Terrier mixed with a Pug. Her name is Zia and she is brindle colored black and brown. Does anyone know how to keep the smell down? We try to keep up with the litter box but the smell is bugging my husband. Both animals are very sweet.
As to the kitty litter, I’m trying to remember what brand we used, but it worked so well. Never any smells at all. Haven’t had a little one in a long time though. Maybe Google best cat litter? or maybe Laura or Rosemary, might have an idea.

Congrats on your new black kitty. I love black cats (and many other colors).
I use Chewy’s unscented litter (buy the 40 lb bag) and have for many, many years. The auto ship feature reduces the price and it, and all my kitty food, meds, and toys get delivered straight to the front porch. No one coming in has commented on any smell.
Cleaning the box often helps. I scoop three times a day. It literally takes a couple of minutes. Also give her two litter boxes. Mixing baking soda in the litter can help as well. Above all, was the entire box out and replace lutter every two weeks.

One more thing, though with little ones it might not be practical.
Chewy also carries a totally safe candle for pets and obviously humans as well – soy with cotton wick and all natural fragrance. It’s called Pet House Candles and even just open unlit in the room help, but lighting it wafts the scent through the house. My kitties have never been bothered by them though I burn them more in the fall/ winter and never unattended. There’s another brand on this page also, so just look at The Pet House ones. The Lemon Cupcake, Fresh Cut Roses, Lilace Garden, and Pumpkin Spice are favorites.

Thank you very much for all your help, Laura! For now part of the solution looks like we are going to keep her litter box in a closet under the stairs with some kind of access to it through the door. They got a cat litter box with somewhat of a cover. It has cat shaped ears and a button where the nose is to open the lid with holes. She also has some white on her paws, chest and by her mouth.

We have four cats and two litter boxes….a fairly large one with a see thru lid (in the laundry room)and a smaller round one with a fake plant in the top lid attachment…the smaller one is in my daughters large bathroom. We use un-scented kitty litter from Aldi’s or the un-scented, inexpensive one from Walmart when Aldi’s is out. Both are clumping kinds of litter. We clean out the clumps and loose poo and wet litter every-other-day, and then add a generous sprinkle of Arm & Hammer Cat Box Deodorizer (the Lavender scented one is nice and delicate) on top of remaining litter in the boxes and stir that in somewhat, and then add a layer of some fresh litter. We do a complete litter box refill about once a month and wash (in the tub!) and dry the litter boxes before adding all fresh litter. We don’t notice any odor with this every-other-day method but will notice one if we let two days go by which can happen sometimes if we are not at home because of family functions! I think the cats really do appreciate having the “pee-balls” removed and a fresh litter layer…we’ve never had any of the cats go potty elsewhere in the house…they always go to the boxes. Sorry if I have provided too much information…just wanted to share what seems to work for us! That Arm & Hammer deodorizer means spending a little more at the store but it is a great product!

I use Swheatscoop cat litter. I think clay litters are smelly, I can’t stand the smell. I also have a nice spray bottle of OdoBan which is a nice spray to do the carpet and air just a little bit every day. We do not really have a problem with odor except when Prin poops. Then I just scoop it up and double bag it and deposit into the trash in the garage.

We are headed back to North Carolina from our trip home. Our great nephew and bride had a very joyful wedding with our large family in attendance. Visiting with Jan in her doll room for an entire day is always the highlight of my visits.
As for tropical storm Bertha, we drove the entire Gulf coast enjoying the breezes and band of rain. It has been such a hot summer. It does not rain in our part of NC and we are amphibious creatures hailing from South Louisiana. I hope it keeps moving and does not get stuck in Texas.

Karen, we always had a cat in the house, and kept their litter boxes in the basement, so you could not smell them upstairs, but then again, you have to clean them out every day. One of my friends has a litter box enclosed in like a little house, but I would think you wouldn’t clean it enough, since you could never see inside. If it gets too smelly even for the cat, it won’t go in there!
The. Too, it depends on the kind of litter you put I. The box. Get something absorbent.

Barbara…I agree with you that for Texans who have lived here most of their lives, the heat doesn’t bother them. But I have been amazed at how Texas folks react when it snows here! Seems like even with 1-2 inches of snow, the schools are closed and people hunker down at home, weather advisories in the local news…even essentials are snapped up at grocery stores. Daughter and I hail from Indiana so we know about snow…schools didn’t close unless their was at least a foot or more of snow, people drove until visibility was so bad you almost couldn’t see the car ahead of you, you kept the sidewalk shoveled so the mailman could deliver your mail (he was on foot and mail came to your front door mailbox!). I lived for several years in a 50+ senior apt. complex and they plowed the sidewalks everyday at 7 am so folks could get to their jobs, but they also asked us NOT to shovel snow off of our cars onto the sidewalks! So you had to toss it (sometimes 10-12 inches deep) onto the driveway area, back out over it, and then their maintenance dept. would use the heavy duty snow plows later in the day to clear the driveway streets in the complex.
I remember driving with my daughters in the car (long before I retired) and as we were slowing down since approaching a red light on a downward incline, I went into a very slow spin on black ice you could not see well, started pumping the brakes, and we ended up perfectly facing the opposite direction we were heading, in the correct lane next to us!! Fortunately we didn’t hit another car or slide into anyone but I remember saying to my girls….Well; I guess we wanted to go in this direction!
Anne, thank you for sharing about your weather in NZ! I did not know you had the ozone layer overhead and can understand the need for the TV ads reminding folks to “slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat!”
Here in Texas where flooding happens often or could occur after some serious rain, our local newscasters tell everyone to “turn around, don’t drown”. Apparently many people think the water across a road doesn’t look that deep and they attempt to drive their cars thru it, and sometimes are swept up in the water’s current. Now that was an expression I never heard back in Indiana.
My thoughts and prayers are with Jeanne and her husband too….I hope we will hear from her soon.

I finally made it to craft and chat club again. I hadn’t been in at least 6 months for various reasons, appointments, conflicts, duties etc etc. It was nice to see the same old people.
Now it is almost 1:30. I sure hope all is well in George and Jeanne Land.
I am home for a quick snack and gonna run out to Homie Depot and get some dirt.
I certainly have Jeanne and George on my mind now.
I hope all of you are doing okay as well.

We just returned from our monthly lunch with my high school class. Our group is small but we are glad for the ones we still have.
No words from Jeanne but we can handle it together.

Good morning. I am seriously worried about George and am praying every time I think of them both.
Would you believe, yesterday I emptied all my in boxes but when I went to find Jeanne’s blog it wasn’t there. Fortunately I found an old one in the archives but it is the old Murphy’s Law in operation. Usually I leave the last one in case I have a glitch but I forgot yesterday.
It is 12C at the moment, at 8.15am! That is ominous, many years ago Christchurch had 24C on Christmas Eve and it snowed on Christmas Day!! Think about the reverse season and imagine you all had snow on 25th June! Snow here is often preceded with a Northwester the day before. Remember, this is the Southern Hemisphere so a Norwest wind is a hot/warm wind! Joy, I will certainly take photos if we do have snow.
Rosemary, we have an excellent sewing machine repairer in Christchurch, unfortunately on the other side of town so it is a major trip to get there. Takes about 30 mins each way. Anyway I took it in yesterday and spent a bit of time drooling over the sewing machine I want. Only NZ$7000! The guy offered me a demonstration but I said I would wait until I was in a position to do more than drool. I told him the repair was urgent as we have a workshop (for the Alice quilt) in two weeks and we need both machines. In the meantime I am using the Janome with a walking foot to finish the quilting. I have quilted 83 blocks so far so only 17 to go. Sam will have to find something else to do in the meantime.

Can’t wait to see the snow! Well maybe. And that is great that you were able to get the machine to the doctor. That’s a lot of moola for a sewing machine, but I’m sure that it is a special one. Maybe someone is selling one they are no longer using? Do you have sales options on things like Nextdoor of Craig’s List like we have here? I’m always checking to see what people are selling. Or maybe the dealer sells trade ins? You know someone bought one and decided on another.

Oh Anne, I wish I could just come right over and lend you my Featherweight.
It waited in it’s carry case for so many months and I finally had a chance to bring it downstairs here and use on the dining room table. It is so fun. Old reliable mechanical machines 🥰 I know exactly what you mean about those big expensive machines. I thought some years ago about getting a Juki tl2010 or the older model. I do hear mixed reviews about some machines. All of my machines are old. Mom’s is a 316G from 1954 I think. Then I have Mary’s 301A that is also pretty “old” and I have my White machine that I bought the girls when they were little, mine now. I gave Christina a Janome Hello Kitty Machine that is really cute but also a superior machine. I hope the shop can fix the machine. The fancy expensive ones are marvelous!! I do not have that kind of cash unless I sell my old machines. I do not want to do that.

Good idea, Joy. Everyone on this blog is so loving and giving; I know Jeanne will appreciate everyone’s choice to continue, regardless of what is happening in her life right now. I hope it’s nothing more than her having forgotten to set up another post for today because of being so busy, learning how to care for George’s new equipment, perhaps, or dealing with various specialists in making decisions for his care. You never know.
I had a bit of sad news today. I was sitting in the dental chair, and Bianca was about to start my cleaning, when my cell phone rang. When I saw who it was, I thought I’d better answer. My friend Kathi, telling me her mom, my dear friend Mary Rose (who I may have mentioned in the past) had slipped into heaven earlier this month. I don’t know many details yet–it caught me by surprise, for one, and Bianca was ready to start–so I will call or email her later and find out more.
I first met Mary Rose at a doll show in the early 1990s. She was carrying a doll around, and I asked her, “Excuse me, is that one of those American Girl dolls I’ve heard about?” (this was before much in the way of internet, and *I* certainly didn’t own a computer yet!) and she said, “Yes, this is Kirsten. She just got some new red boots and she Will NOT take them off!” And I knew I had a friend!! Indeed, we did become very good friends, thru doll shows and also our annual Sewing Expo, which she and Kathi and sometimes other friends of theirs attended fairly regularly until a few years ago, when Mary Rose was having some health and mobility issues. The last one she came to was, I think, two years ago; shortly after that, she lost her husband, and a few months later I lost Ron. Mary Rose was a little older than I–maybe 83 or so? I will miss her.
I’m very sorry to hear of the death of your friend. May the memories of the times you shared always remain with you.
