What a long long ordeal this has been for you and your family, Jeanne. I am so sorry. I’m assuming George is still in the hospital? It’s been, what, a week or so now? Prayers continue.
No, no new dolls at this house in a while, I’m afraid, There are one or two of the Ruby Reds that appeal to me, but so far, no, I haven’t ordered. It’s tempting, but I think I need to do some refining of my collection and decluttering of my house before I order another doll!
Elizabeth, per your comment yesterday, I agree: I think the book is almost always better than the movie version of just about anything; the book can give you all the details, and nuances that just don’t show up in the movie version. And when it comes to movies and remakes, again, the original is always better than the remake. There might be an exception or two but, yeah, the original is better. I am not familiar with the “Hail Mary” book/movie you mentioned; will have to do a little research.
It hasn’t been particularly warm here today (Seattle area/mid 70s) but it has felt muggy and close all day long. I think the house is finally starting to cool off a bit, so I can get some sleep tonight. Tomorrow is massage!
Nice Charlotte. It is good to know we should be doing decluttering. I need to as well. Refining. Excellent task I should focus on. I will put it on my long term goals 🥳 list.
Books to movies. Hubbs wants to go to a theater and watch the Odyssey movie. 3 hours? Yikes. I can’t bring any 🪡 sewing 🙄 I am not sure about 3 hours of sitting.
The Hail Mary movie is cute. More cuter is Sheep Detective. At least to me. You could hear the women, including me, sniffling over the baby Winter lamb. It’s a sweet movie.
Now I need to watch it. Is it only in theaters or what platform for tv?

I received my Connie Lowe 16″ Hazel from the BJDC show. She is absolutely gorgeous.

We got home before dark last evening. Peyton’s family had dinner earlier so that we could. It was so hot outside we just staid inside all day, and so did most every one. I learned a new card game with the kids. They are so cute and sweet. We have gone to this gathering twice a year for a long time and it
has been interesting to see the kids turn into adults and then more young ones come along. We are off to the Y today, so will check with Y’all later.
there are some cute card games out there. Now I am trying to remember the card game Lauren and Sarah brought last time they were up here. Such fun.

Last evening Hubbs and I started watching a moving on Amazon Prime Video: Ride or Die.
It is funny and scary and silly.
I do not have any new dolls. I have so many old dolls. They are packed away in a box. I need to get my curio cabinet polished and the shelves unpacked and set it up.
I am envious of Joy acquiring so many cute adorable new dolls. And you live all the way on the other side of the country I can not come over and hug them, or you.
If I put new photos on my flickr pages I will let you know. I am not the best photographer but I did just finish all of the flags for a future quilt. My make list is so long… and my piano playing list is long and every list is long.
It is cloudy here. I have chores. I will try to do some of them. It is also humid. KittyPrincess loves her screened in porch. I sat out with her yesterday, it was not too humid, and did some unsewing.

Great to hear from Jeanne. I’m hoping for a positive update on George, soon. This has been a very long ride for both of them, I think.
This morning, we have clouds, but they are not the usual type and it is muggy. The tropics have arrived here and it feels like Hawaii weather. I think it will be 91 today but back in the 70’s tomorrow thank goodness. So, I’m pulling out my pineapple tee and digging for the shorts once again.
I knew yesterday morning that a package was finally out for delivery. The trip from HK to Chicago, and then back to CA by truck to LA and finally north to San Francisco and out for delivery up here has been a long one. With no idea of a delivery window, we carried on with a walk and a trip to Target for more cat food, of course. We also stopped at Habit to grab lunch, so after arrival home, I had my hands full and was heading up the 13 steps when my old eyes focused on a tall box sitting right on the mat in front of the door. Ack! The box had been delivered and was in plain view. Now what? I panicked. But quickly coming to my senses, I glanced back and saw that other person was still by the car but soon to head my way. With both hands full, there was nothing I could do but knock the box over with my foot and give it a slight kick to the right. It didn’t reach the bench, but was behind a planter, slightly. Then, I was frozen and with no plan in my mind, I couldn’t even fumble with the keys in my fingers along with my cold coke. What a dilemma. So, I just stood there like a fool with my body slightly covering the prize. Other person arrived loaded down, and with his keys popped open the door. I made sure that he went inside first and then followed. Whew! But, it wasn’t over. Other person quickly put down his bags as did I, and started back to the door. There was another load waiting in the car. Oh no! Will he spot the box on the porch right by the door? Nope, he closed the door and headed back down the 13 steps. So, I opened the door which squeaked terribly. Fortunately, he didn’t turn around, but as I stepped out to the porch again, I could see that he was now headed back to the car. Springing into action, I quickly reached down and grabbed the box swinging it behind me in case other person glanced back up my way. Back into the house I went carrying my prize! I deposited Rosa, in the secret location and will see if I can find a private moment to free her from her trappings today. I was dizzy from the suspense, but quickly recovered. And, the first thing that I saw this morning was that the other package for which I’ve also been waiting is Out for Delivery! Today! No idea how I can repeat this again today. 🙂
Well, that was exciting! Joy, you are a sneaky one! Excellent operation. I hope today’s goes just as smooth. You can distract other person with perhaps handing him the binoculars and asking what kind of bird it that? and send him off to the back window!
I hope you had a chance to take your dear Rosa out of her traveling compartment and give her a big hug.
That is a great idea. We keep the binoculars on the fireplace mantel right by the slider. We spot birds all of the time.

Charlotte…I agree about how reading books are usually better than the movie. I will say though that the remake of Father of the Bride, with Steve Martin and Diane Keaton was one I liked better than the one with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor. And the remake of The Parent Trap with Dennis Quaid was one I liked better than the original with Brian Keith and Maureen Ohara and Hayley Mills….although I really liked that one a lot, once I had watched the remake with Dennis Quaid a few times, I liked it better as far as being more up to date with the times. Each had its place in the decade it was produced. Although there are so many older movies that stand alone on their own that I don’t think they should be re-done! I have noticed that The Devil wears Prada has been done as version 2, but I can wait until it comes on TV. There is quite a lot of years since the original was done and I’m not sure how the same actors will be, cast in the same roles! I really enjoyed the first Devil Wears Prada….the storyline, the actors, the music!
Rosemary….I feel like going to the movies is not the same for me as it was back in the day before large screen TV’s!! No place like home when watching a film on a big screen TV…you can pause the film for snack or bathroom breaks, be comfy in your own chair, no steps to climb to reach the middle row of seats or anyone blocking part of your view, if they are crowded! And the soundtrack being too loud doesn’t have to irritate you!
Karen….I have seen pictures of some of the Connie Lowe dolls….she does look like a nice size to have among the RR dolls. I am not familiar with the Connie Lowe Hazel doll….hope you can share a photo!
I am still thinking about ordering one of the Jolli Buddies from the RR dolls online….maybe down the road. I just recently ordered a few more 1/2 yard fabric pieces from Fabric Shack out of Waynesville, Ohio, since they are offering 25% off on everything, as they are going out of business after 42 years. As my daughter likes to say when it comes to splurge spending on something you don’t really need: “I fell down the rabbit hole!” I don’t NEED more fabric for doll outfits but it is hard to resist some of the sweet tiny prints! With so few stores to purchase fabric from now, other than Hobby Lobby or Walmart (even more limited and not the best quality), might need to turn to other online places. But Fabric Shack has quality fabrics and they WILL cut pieces as small as 1/4 yd. whereas many places require a minimum of 1 or 2 yards to order. I would rather have a few new tiny=print pieces of fabric than a new piece of clothing for myself!
getting the perfect fabrics is always tempting.
Etsy seems to be the next place to buy bits of fabric.
I am hoping hubbs forgets about going to the movies…. I am still hesitant to sit for 3 hours in a germy theater….. we’ll see.
I prefer waiting for stuff to come out on tv, even if we have to pay for it, that is okay too.

I do have a “latest” doll — Kaya. I noticed that I like some but not others, and someone on AGPT told me the year to look for, so I did, and found one for a good price. She looks untouched except that her belt is not perfect — but her hair is.
I already have most of her clothes, and found a ribbon skirt for her on Etsy. Too many dolls, but they are good company.

Many people are talking about the Odyssey movie. I’ve been reading reviews — it sounds typical of American book to movie films — names and costumes are pretty much as expected, and settings look good, but the story has changed to suit the times. Homer’s version is an adventure story, the movie is a search for meaning and redemption. Most of the female characters have lost power, and so aren’t challenging as opponents, and most viewers won’t get to see the IMAX version because there aren’t that many IMAX theaters. Our news says that Denver’s IMAX lost its IMAX capability and had to show the regular version to an audience that paid for the “real” version.
On the whole, reviews seem reasonably positive. Now there will be people who see the movie and then read the book (there’s supposed to be a very good new translation) and will prefer the movie version for its relevant-to-us themes, like guilt for destroying a civilization/culture. And moving from words to pictures requires changes.
Agree on your points regarding the movie.
I read the book so long ago, but I some how feel like just getting the book out and reading it again. Or, perhaps having it read to me via some library app.
I am not excited about the movie.
Prayers for George. I also assume he is still in the hospital. No, no new dolls here. I do have a couple on a wishlist, but won’t be getting either anytime soon, but hopefully not never. I really need to see what things I can sell from my collection if a new doll is too be possible. Way too many real life expenses for the foreseeable future.
Out of curiosity, which dolls are on your wish list? AG? Rudy Red? So many out there. 🙂
Oh Jeanne! I wrote earlier this morning, a rather long comment, and just have forgotten to push the comment button! I have done that more than once!
Well, around here the big deal was the Big Boy train, that was here in St. Louis over the weekend, it is now on the way to Kansas City and then westward to Denver. It is really an experience to see it go by and see the steam and hear the whistle! So many videos of the Big Boy on Facebook now.
As far as new doll, nothing here! I am not actively looking for a new doll, jjst getting things for the ones I have, It’s almost like having children; you know when you have enough! I have 10 dolls and two children, and am very glad it isn’t ten children and two dolls!🤣. However it is always fun to hear about others new dolls, and live vicariously through them! Looks like Joy will be telling us about her newest doll soon. Congrats to Karen on her new Connie Lowe Hazel doll! You both need to send pictures!
This is the last day of this oppressive heat! It is only 84, but the humidity is the culprit. It will go up to 92 and feel like 105, so it isn’t fun at all.
yes, here in Northern Virginia it is already super humid and it is very uncomfortable at only 84 degrees and no sun. Just super sticky humid!
It’s 92 here and so humid I can’t stand it. I’ve been watching your temp in SL and you have had a lot of heat this summer. Us, not so much. Tomorrow we’ll be back to the high seventies, I think. 🙂
Good morning everyone.
I have finally got my new computer working. I gave up on my son and in the end it was a good thing I did because the job was a bit more difficult than I thought and probably beyond Darren. I took it to an IT specialist I have been to before, he ended up swapping the hard drives which is great because everything, or nearly everything is just the way it was before so I haven’t had to learn whole new systems. My new computer has windows 11 as well.
I was giving my old computer to my friend, it is “newer” than the one she has been using and she doesn’t need Windows 11. Unfortunately they found that the mouse on the keyboard wasn’t working and disconnected it. I couldn’t give it to her like that so had to give her my wireless mouse and keyboard as well. I quickly called into a store that was conveniently nearby and bought another keyboard and mouse but didn’t realise it was Bluetooth! Sam connected the mouse and that was fine but this morning I couldn’t get the keyboard to work. I hate using the laptop one, it is too high up and doesn’t feel right. Asher heard me, came in and fixed it just like that, without even losing the message I had started. Yay for 16 yr olds.
I must say it was a pleasure opening it this morning, The old one took forever to start and everything was so slow, it drove me nuts sometimes. I like the new Bluetooth keyboard as well I find I don’t make so many mistakes as I did before, I always seemed to be hitting two keys together and having to go back and fix it. By the time I had paid the IT guy and bought the keyboard it was another NZ$200 but worth it I think.
Having said all that, Jeanne, I have been thinking of and praying for you and especially George. I hope the update will be really good news and look forward to it.
Joy your “dolly capers” are always fun. I hope you managed to get the latest one in undetected.
Rosemary, I was working on the Alice’s Wonderland quilt over the weekend. I have quilted 70 of the 100 blocks. I am not sure how many I will be able to do today, I am on to the EPP and Applique blocks which need a bit more than straight line quilting in the ditch.
Tonight is book club, and we always stay for dinner afterwards so a really nice evening.
I watched the World Cup Final on Monday morning. Argentina were disgraceful, especially in defeat. They are under investigation by FIFA for their behaviour after the final whistle. I didn’t watch that part but the referee gave a red card to a player even though the match was over and there is a good chance he will get more than the mandatory I game suspension. Joy, you are right, their goalkeeper was brilliant. In fact I am pretty sure that is why they played such a defensive game. If they could keep the score to nil all after extra time they had a pretty good chance of winning on penalties with him in goal. Spain certainly deserved to win.
I had better go, Lots to do today. Jeanne, I do pray you have good news when we get the update.

That was quite a game. I missed the after melee. I would have liked to see Argentina win, for the sake of their goalie, but Spain was clearly the better team with shots on goal.
