Hi everyone,
If you happened to miss it, I wrote a comment yesterday about the movies (yes movies) made in Helen, Georgia! This was my comment…
Hi everyone,
After I saw the pictures and comments from Sissy of Helen, Georgia, I had to find the movie she mentioned…โA Taste of Christmas” and watch itโฆ I did and it was very sweetโฆ then I kept the TV on and saw another Christmas movie coming on… โChristmas Love Letterโ and just a little bit into the movie they were filming on the main street in the town. The street had the same road sign as in the other movie, โAlpine Helenโ, so I looked up this movie and found it, too, was made in Helen, Georgia. “A Taste of Christmas” was made in 2020 and “Christmas Love Letter” was made in 2019โฆ I guess back-to-back movies in Sissyโs favorite small town. :o) *wink* *wink*
Now I have to finish watching this one.
Bye, Jeanne
So, here’s the deal… I’ve actually been dealing with the “crud” and feeling like rot, since Thursday evening, so I’ve spent most of my time in bed or on the couch… doing absolutely nothing… I’ve been like a big ole slug! My hubby is SO sick of my coughing, I know he’d like to just yell out, “STOP IT!!!” But he hasn’t, thank goodness. He did cook some hamburger today and asked if I could possibly put the stuff in the crock pot to make V8 Soup. I did do that, but that was my big accomplishment for the day! You think I’m kidding???
Then another movie came on… “Christmas in the Wild” (not in Helen Georgia, but still good) and after a bowl of vegetable soup, yet another movie came on called “A Furry Little Christmas” which was very cute too. So I’m “movied out” and now it’s time for bed…
I told you I was like a big slug today… no good for anything or anyone.
So I sure hope someone has something to talk about, because I sure don’t… Sorry… but hope to see you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne
Oh, Jeanne, I’m so sorry you are sick! Just take care of yourself and we’ll chat here, and carry on until you feel up to joining us again.
I had hoped to get pictures of Frieda in her beautiful new sweater (thanks again Anne!) but I didn’t get that done today. However, the bathroom got cleaned and dishes got done, stuff like that. Oh for fun….๐ Hopefully tomorrow, after I get home from Bible study at church.
We are about half thru our family “birthday blitz”–between Jan. 13th and Feb. 9th we have something like 9 birthdays in our family! That includes: two grandsons, one great-grandson, one former daughter-in-law (mother of the above two grandsons and one other), Ron’s brother, Ron’s daughter, plus Ron’s and mine, and our son’s! Wed. is Ron’s, and Daniel and I will take flowers to the cemetery. Next Sunday is the delayed 3rd birthday party for my great-grandson, who was sick last week. And the following Wed. is mine, and it’s one of those big ones that ends with a zero, so I figure I will probably take myself out for dinner (and Daniel, if he’s available).
Meanwhile….it is panic sewing time! Yes, Expo is coming and I am working on a prototype for Tonya’s and my annual “twinsie challenge”! Stay tuned! I at least have made Some progress on it! I leave here Feb. 25th so that means I have a little over a month to make my prototype, and the “real” challenge, plus another project or two! I have only had 11 months, you know….On the plus side, Tonya isn’t too much further ahead than I am! She has her this year’s challenge done, but not the one that was delayed by the pandemic (which we’ve both been putting off and putting off, and decided THIS is the year!!).
What’s everyone else up to?
I meant to say, in regard to the birthday blitz, at least three of my cousins were also born in January!!
I thought we had a lot of things between Christmas and several birthdays all before the end of January but you have me beat by several. I know by the end of January I’m pretty much partied out but you probably already feel that way. Have fun!
I have been trying to catch up with some of y’all’s messages, I thank you all for enjoying the photos yesterday and I went back and read Paula’s cute story! She could write a book!
We are going to the YMCA again. I have to be careful with my right arm. I went to my pain doc yesterday and he sent a long needle down my shoulder. I told him the sore place was another place but he knows best, I hope. On Friday is my 3 month back shot, he is really good at that. Getting old is interesting and thank goodness for a good doc and a good husband to drive me around.
I hope Y’all are well, will check on you when we get home.
Dear Jeanne, I am so sorry you are not well. I hope today is better and you will be well before the week is done. Sending prayers!!
Oh Jeanne, Iโm so sorry to hear you are under the weather, but you are not alone! While I am fine, today is supposed to be a get together with my college group for Lu ch. We do it Mo tney, ut todayโs lunch has been cancelled, because one is having her hip replaced today, one has shingles, two have the flu and several others have colds! Misery loves company, I guess! I hope everyone recovers, including you!
This is probably going to be a surprise to you, but I have never watched a Hallmark Christmas movie! I never seem to have the time during the holidays, and when I do, I am too tired. Have you heard that they are filming a Christmas movie in Silver Dollar City, right now? I canโt think of what it will be called at the moment, but it will be shown for the 2026 Christmas season. Iโll be sure to find time for that one!
Oh my goodness, it is 17 degrees right now and feels like 9! The poor kids who have to wait for the bus! My dolls are dressed in sweaters, skirts and slacks, and why not?
Charlotte, what a dizzying month you have with all the birthdays! Donโt worry about your โbigโ one coming up! I have three years on you, and am doing just fine!
I’m with you Linda. The only time I’ve glimpsed a Hallmark movie was some years back when they had one on the large screen at Arby’s one day while we were eating lunch. Way too sappy for me, and even now, I really haven’t the time much to watch a movie. ๐
I hope you feel better soon, Jeanne, and are staying warm! Outside is 7 degrees here! Dominic isn’t feeling well either.
Oh no, not Dominic. Hope he gets well quickly. So many things going around right now.
Thanks, Joy!
Prayers for Dominic and for the rest of you family that you stay healthy.
Thank you! ๐
happy Tuesday! well well, I had the crud for two weeks, Jeanne, it is very stubborn! The only thing that helped was the generic robitussin DM liquid. But you have to drink a lot (heavy drinking) and it does sort of get the grud out.
I never had a fever, but good grief it was hard work keeping that out of your lungs! I hope you feel better this week.
Cold? yes it is cold outside! this week is supposed to be kind of below freezing the rest of the days, but a little bump with sunshine in Thursday so I can drive out to see my doctor for a check up. I have not seen her in a year! just televisit I think 6 months ago.
Jeanne, it is good that you are taking it easy and being “sloth-like” Do not feel bad about that, your body needs it. So, “be a veg” I am sure George is concerned about the coughing. I was coughing so hard I got a tiny hemorrhage in my left eye, but no one noticed except me haha
I did spend a lot of time working on my father’s diary of being in a POW camp in Germany in May of 1944- until the end of the war…. . He was treated very well. He did not try to escape because they were told they would be shot. Still a very precarious situation for a young guy of 21 years old. I am reading his very squiggly small handwriting that is in Dutch, and translating it.
Please everyone, take care of yourselves! There are a lot of viruses going around. Be sure to take your vitamin D and Zinc, and also perhaps (we do) take the Liposomal Vitamin C enriched with whole foods.
We are supposed to be getting a big storm on the east coast this week-end coming up, …. four days away still so…. and I am pretty much stocked up on provisions, so I am going to sew all day today and oh, maybe vacuum.
Love to all of you. Rest and take care.
It is wonderful that you are able to read Dutch and be able to translate such a valuable memory to share with others. Good for you and glad that you are over that very nasty flu you had.
Well, the sun is not present this morning. Under clouds/fog for the day I think. Makes it seem so much colder too.
I’ve been working on a scene for some Ruby Reds, but gathering all of the items and trying to find outfits is taking forever. I don’t know how Linda manages to do it. I’m definitely not the lady that runs up the stairs and grabs all of the cute little dolls and accessories and sets up an amazing venue. For whatever reason, I can’t find the spoons I need or food for the event. Where is it? And then, I spent at least an hour scouring bins trying to find the skirt I had almost finished before the great clean up right before our appliances arrived. I knew that I had gathered all of the almost finished projects together but where I put them was a mystery. I did finally find them. Tucked away near the fabric storage bins. But, what a pain. At this point, I think the poor dollies are going to have to celebrate without any party treats. We’ll see.
Lots of flu going around out here, and I hope that Jeanne is starting to feel a little better today. Time to call for pizza delivery I think. ๐
Joy, I do have my things in easy to find places, all in the right categories, bins and containers, but believe me, I do sometimes loose track of a particular item that I might be looking for. Iโm not as perfect as you would think! Most of the time it is because it isnโt where it should be! Why I put something in the wrong place is beyond me, but it happens!
I do alright with clothes but my props are in several boxes or on rolling carts wherever they will fit. In the beginning it was no problem because I didn’t have much but now I probably have too much and the thought of finding what I need sometimes deters me from setting up a scene. I keep thinking I’ll get around to categorizing everything at some point, but it seems I never have the time – or inclination- to do it.
Jeanne I hope you get well soon. colds and flu are miserable especially when you get a bad cough with it as well. They wear you out.
Linda and Joy, I don’t think I have ever seen a Hallmark movie either. I hardly ever watch movies. I did go with my friend to watch Prime Minister, which is basically a documentary. It was filmed by Jacinda Ardern’s husband with added footage from other sources. You see the change in her, physical as well as mentally as she had to cope with Covid lockdown, the Mosque shooting, the White Island eruption and the three-week occupation of the Beehive grounds by protesters. At the end, when she was contemplating resigning, she says ‘what if there is another disaster, will I have enough in me to deal with it?’
I also watched another film on TV called ‘Yesterday’. A silly but fun movie. As per ‘The Day of the Triffids’, there is a huge global storm and it affects everyone’s memory except this young guy, an aspiring singer. He is the only one who remembers The Beatles. He becomes famous claiming all the Beatles songs as his own but fame changes him. I’m not sure where you would find ‘Yesterday’ but Prime Minister is on Apple TV, YouTube and HBO Max but not Netflix if you are interested.
I am knitting another doll sweater which is supposed to be for RRFF but as I have mentioned before, all 4-ply yarn isn’t created equal! I will see if it fits Sarah but if it doesn’t it will go to Jeanne to offer it for some other doll since I don’t have anything small enough to wear it. I think it will fit width wise but the pattern is in rows rather than length and it looks quite small. Anyway, I will see how it comes out.
We had two quite nice days, not very warm but not too bad but we will have heavy rain from this afternoon till next week! Up North the rain is even heavier and the ground is already saturated, They are expecting more slips and flooding so more road closures. Welcome to NZ summer, I think this is the worst I can remember and over the largest area. We have been very lucky here, the rain hasn’t been enough to flood anywhere but I think we and further south are the only ones to escape. These are all tropical storms so coming from the north down.
Stay warm everyone
Your weather is certainly interesting. It does surprise me because I had some church friends once who had lived in New Zealand and said it was the best place ever. Not to mention all the movies that are filmed there. I thought of it as having the perfect climate/weather. So glad you are not flooding but sending prayers for those who are. After the July 4th flood here in Texas and seeing so much loss of property and life, including one little local girl, just hearing the word flood these days saddens me.
Our cold mornings turn to just coolish later in the aft. when the sun come out today. When we got home from the Y, the new phone help, and the groceries, I went out in the yard to check my camellias on one of the beautiful white early blooming ones and pulled most of them off because they were almost all brown from the cold. The others are ok or not blooming yet.
NOW!
After reading about Linda’s friends I have a warning for all of you.
GET THE SHINGLES SHOTS IF YOU HAVEN’T!!!! I had SHINGLES FOR 6 WEEKS, AND IT WAS SO PAINFUL I COULD NOT WEAR A BRA, GO ANY WHERE AND WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN. I hope you all have the shots, even my sons got them when I told him.
Iโm really thinking about it now Sissy!
Iโm really thinking about it now, Sissy, after putting it off so many years.
So sorry to hear you are under the weather, Jeanne. Especially with such an awful cough. Have you tried rubbing your chest with Vicks VapoRub and applying a warm piece of flannel under your jammie top? Then you have to make a hot toddy and drink that and go to bed. Well it worked for us when I was a kid. The hot toddy was awful but my parents made us drink it down. Our fever broke in the night and by morning we were pretty much over whatever ailed us. Prayers for your quick recovery.
I ended up not making my last Wednesday chiropractor appointment because after lunch Sean and I went to the gas station to fill up my car so I could go to my appointment but when we tried to restart the car, it wouldn’t start. It took forever to get someone to give us a jump and by that time it was too late to make the appointment. I really needed to not miss that appointment but there was no way to make it. If the car had died in the driveway at home I would have had Sean take me. David was off on a job but if he’d been home he would have been with us at the gas station too. But I did make the one yesterday. My car was in the shop but David took me. I’m really starting to see results. My body was not off kilter side-to-side but front-to-back. I needed flattening out. I know it’s working because when I sit in front of a mirror my body is centered and for the first time in ages I can get my calves together. Before there was always a gap. Also it takes the pressure off my sciatic nerve which makes walking a lot easier.
Well yesterday was our 46th anniversary. Since I had my appointment yesterday and feel somewhat stiff and tired when I get home, we decided to go to dinner today so we will be going to Taste of Texas. It is a lovely restaurant with great food and it’s the one time we actually get a dessert to share. They have a great website if you want to check it out and should you ever be in Houston it’s a great place to eat.
From what Sean tells me we will be having some dicey weather on Sunday. Possibly ice but definitely very cold. Hoping all my Sofa Sisters stay warm, cozy and safe.
Dear Jeanne, take all of the time you need to rest. Your body will tell you when it’s alright to get up and move around again. I watch a ton of Hallmark movies during the Christmas season.
