Hi everyone,
Wasn’t it fun to see ALL those different dolls at the Modern Doll Collectors Convention? Thank you SO MUCH Sissy, for sharing all the pictures with us. I think we’d all go crazy if we went… at least KNOW I WOULD! There would just be SO much to look at and touch and feel and motivate me!
But, *alas*… back to reality…
I was working on a doll dress for the last couple of days… while I was getting the pictures in order for Sissy’s narration! It gave me time to work on this really cute little dress…
I only have the top half done… the bottom half will come soon.
BUT… Friday my hubby is whisking me away for my birthday… it’s the last one of my 60’s… I’m not sure which direction we’ll head out, but I have an idea… *wink* *wink*
Okay, back to the dress. I decided to go “sort of Fall” but not totally Fall. A little bit darker color but not corduroy or wool.
It’s a new dress for Mae… my 15″ Moppet doll from My Meadow. Mae was just laying on her back, in the dolly cabinet, when she heard me call her name… “yes, Mae, you are up next for a dress!” She sat up and was ready to help me pick out fabric. This is what we decided on. I’ve done it again… picked a color that is a bit hard to photograph. It has that blue in it that’s not quite navy but almost. I hope it’s just because it’s evening when I took these pictures, that make them not look as pretty as the fabric really is. It’s a Windham quilters fabric and is just the prettiest color combination!
I’m using a new pattern by a seller on Etsy. I’ll show you the pattern after I add the bottom of the dress on… to surprise you.
The dress has a sweet little collar I made from a coordinating print… and then made a bow out of a piece of ribbon I had that went perfectly with the color in the fabric.
Then I added the same print as the collar to the sleeve cuffs… and made them extra narrow.
This pattern is cute and would make a fun top if you just wanted it to be like this…
However, I plan to finish the rest of the dress as the pattern shows…
Mae was worried her dress was too short. I assured her there is MORE to come…
I have big plans for the rest of this set… hope you’ll like them.
See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, that Is a pretty print for Mae! Not a color combination I would necessarily use for myself, but then you know I’m more of a pink-and-purple girl, myself.
I’m wondering what the mystery is about the skirt to the dress. Maybe pleated? Or perhaps it has a contrasting ruffle on the bottom? Can’t wait to see!!
What a pretty little top for fall, Jeanne! I know, it is going to be a dress, but my first observation, when seeing it, was that you were going to make some navy pants for Mae to wear with it, and maybe have a contrasting cuff on them. That could be an option too, unless the skirt is sewn onto the bodice.
I do love the colors, so pretty for fall! Maybe put her hair in pigtails, with little navy bows in them!
Whatever you do tomorrow, have fun! Cape Girardeau, Paducah, flea marketing??
Early Birthday Greetings. I hope both of you enjoy a happy day together.
I turned 70 last year and boy oh boy I miss the 60’s…
I love this combination for Mae’s dress. the tiny gingham is so sweet.
agreeing with Linda, you could made some pants too if it were a pieced ensemble, with also a skirty thing. It will be cute for sure.
She is the cutest doll.
Happy Thursday everyone. It got down to 52 here last night. brr cold. I think I might have to
put my cornish rex kitty girl’s heater on over night in her room or she is going to catch a cold. I wish I could wrestle a sweater on her.
This has been the chilliest August in the history of Augusts that I can remember.
Love to all of you
What a darling beginning for this sweet outfit, Jeanne! I really want to get sewing for my Meadow dolls and my Little Darlings. I just have to get selling all these doll clothes I have from Riley size, and some of the Kish dolls, first. I also want to sew for my Savannah Ruby red doll.
We have the family doings until going home Monday and then my older son’s arrival at out house to help where needed until Thursday. I don’t know when I will be able to catch my breath!
Have a great day, Y”all.
You have Riley clothes for sale? I may be interested. Per your comment yesterday, my not wanting to fly is about my claustrophobia which seems to be worse as I get older. I can fly but would need to be heavily sedated so I don’t freak out when they close the door. I used to fly all the time and loved it. Not happy about this new development.
Well, my guess is that the birthday girl is heading to KY to look at fabric. I’m sure we’ll find out and hope that there are lots of pictures of the trip. And a very Happy Birthday coming up to Jeanne.
As to the cute outfit for Mae, it had me stumped at first, unless there will be a pair of bloomers underneath maybe in the collar fabric? Then, I decided that the ruffle is actually the first tier of a skirt that will continue to be attached below. Guess we’ll find out at some point. 🙂 And, I love Mae in this wig. So sweet.
It’s week two of the Sew Along with Jen Wren, and I haven’t even started week one yet. Week two is a sort of dirndl look dress and apron for fall and Octoberfest. But week one has me stumped. The dress for that was done in a plaid fabric that had the front two pleats made on the fabric before it was cut out. I’ve never done anything like that before, so I’ve been putting it off. It’s one where I’ve read the sort of instructions quite a few times, and I’m still confused. Not sure of the measurements either since I had to reduce the pattern. It might be a good fit for Mae, though I had planned to make it for a Ruby Red. Maybe I can try again today if it turns out too hot to be outside.
There are only a couple of open places on the deck now, so we’re getting there. Then, my work will begin on getting the deck ready to paint.
I just checked and the two dolls I mentioned yesterday are available right now at https://www.moderndoll.org/shop They are two of the convention dolls.
How funny that Mae thinks her “dress” is too short and she’s a little girl. We have some teenagers who come to church wearing dresses that aren’t much longer. It’s so bad that when they go up for communion and kneel down at the altar rail they have to keep pulling the back of their dresses down.
I too am curious about the pattern. Is it a layered ruffled dress or is this a separate top that you add a skirt to? Hubby suggested a pair of pants would be cute. I’ll have to tell him that some of the sofa sisters think so too. I have a pattern for my Little Darling dolls that has a top like this and the ruffled skirt is separate. There is also a pair of pants with the pattern.
Happy Birthday, Jeanne. Sounds like you’re in for a fun day. Can’t wait to see the results.
Dear Jeanne, Happy (almost) Birthday! I can’t wait to hear about your celebration.
