Hi everyone,
Yep, today is my birthday and I plan to have a good one… it’s the last one with a 6 in the front! EEK! But we won’t talk about that today. I have something much more exciting! It’s all about Mae today. I have gotten lots completed since we last met!
Here was yesterday…
Here is today… We got braids in our hair, but I had NO dark blue ribbon to match the bow at her neckline, so I’ll have to see if I can’t find that same color in a narrower ribbon somewhere.
I hope you like what you see… first off, let’s talk about those ruffles… there are 3 tiers of ruffles… and they were a bit tricky. I wanted her dress to be slightly longer, but found out adding to the connector piece wouldn’t work… as the edges couldn’t be finished like the first ones I made.
The dress is p-r-e-t-t-y short… in fact it barely covers her bum.
The three rows of ruffles were all turned under 1/8″ and then another 1/8″ and hand hemmed. That took a while……..
I’m still trying to decide what to do about bloomers or pantalettes… probably pantalettes…
Mae got a new pair of sparkly goldish colored thigh highs… they are very sheer as you can see and have elastic at the top… and stay up very well…
I guess you can see her new shoes too. They are a printed leather in a creamy color with gold speckles all over them. They are VERY sweet on her feet. I have refined my pattern 3 times and want to do one more revision…
I punched out little flowers and a green leaf to decorate them. They have my magnetic closure…and are super easy to put on!
Doesn’t Mae look cute all dressed up?
I did get something else made too… a straw hat for this set… but I had no dark blue flowers to decorate it, so I’ll be looking for them as well…
I’m still very nervous having Mae stand without holding onto something or being propped up… so we took a few more pictures… “all sitting down!”
Well, that’s my birthday treat to you today! I hope you loved it! I’ll see you Monday… hopefully having found some dark blue ribbon and some dark blue flowers!
Bye,
Blessings, Jeanne

Happy Birthday, Jeanne! Don’t worry about that number “6”, I am way past that! I could even have been your babysitter! Oh to be 69 again!
Well, little Miss Mae looks just adorable with her ruffles! I wouldn’t worry about the dress being too short, little girls always look cuter in short dresses, and remember those panties with ruffles in the back? My youngest sister had those and I remember them well. They made little girls look like little girls!
Wowee, those darling shoes! Any little girl would love those to dance around in! I remember when I was small, and when we would get new Mary Janes, we would alwys go in the bathroom on the tile floor, dance around with that clickety clack sound, and pretend we were tap dancers!
Miss Mae is going to really be sad when she has to take this outfit off! The hat, tights, and shoes make it really somethng else, along with all those pretty ruffles!
Have a great day today Jeanne, enjoy yourself and thank you for giving us this wonderful blog to look forward to each day! 🙂
First of all, Happy Birthday, Jeanne! Hope you have a wonderful day, doing the things you enjoy most! (That means sewing, right?! 😁)
I love Mae’s dress with all the ruffles. I think rhumba panties (I think that’s what they called the ones with ruffles on the bottom) would be cute with this this dress, although with all the ruffles in the skirt, they might get kind of hidden.
The leather of the shoes and then the gold socks are really nice with the print in the dress. Also a hat…surely somewhere there is some trim or flowers or something in just the right shade of blue to go with the dress!
Happy Birthday to you, Dear Jeanne! May your last 60th year be a great one and next year be even better!
The ruffles are just tooooo adorable! I am sure she appreciates the gold socks to keep her feeling good. I remember seeing Shirley Temple when she was so young and watching her daintily tug at her very short dress.
Have a blessed day and wishes that it will be everything you wish.
Happy Birthday Jeanne!!!! I know you will have a great day! George will see to that! I have 21 years on you and it really doesn’t feel any different. I have had lobster for my birthday since I was 12. We now have a big lobster, corn and many salads cookout around my daughter’s pool, my 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren love it! They all cheer for GG to get another year older!
Wish I lived closer to you. I would try to finagle an invitation to your birthday soiree. Not only to watch you get another year older but to share in your lobster dinner. I tend to be the only one in my family who thinks the creepy crustaceans are yummy. Congratulations on having such a large family to celebrate with you. The blessings of a long life. We had a friend who lived to 103. She shared her birthday with several generations. We went to her 100th. It was amazing.
I’m right there with you on the lobster! Yummy!
Happy birthday Jeanne!!! Hope you have a lovely day, especially doing whatever means the most to you!!
We have all enjoyed your blog so much, and more than anything, knowing you!
Mae’s dress is adorable and the ruffles and navy bow and shoes add to the pretty choice of material you decided on. She’s not going to want to take this outfit off.
Have a fabulous day !
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEANNE! Have a wonderful day celebrating.
Hugs
Ingrid
Happy Birthday Jeanne,
Well, my daddy used to say ” you are actually starting your 70th year today!… yesterday was your last day getting to 69″ …. but never mind. He was quite funny about birthdays.
I hope you have the very best day ever!
Mae’s dress so far is really cute. Pantelttes sound so nice.
Those will be fun to make. Your shoe making is perfection.
Happy Friday everyone. Enjoy a happy day
Happy birthday, Jeanne!!! Enjoy your day!!!
Happy Birthday to my one-year-older than me twin! 🙂 Though I rarely comment, I have been a daily reader of your blog for many years – I’m the little quiet one, sitting at the end of the sofa. 😉
Jeanne, next year’s MDCC is in Indianapolis on August 26-29. I think you and I should go – we can celebrate your first birthday starting with a seven, and my last birthday starting with a six!! I’ve never been to a doll convention and this next one will be so close, I’m seriously considering it.
Love this little outfit for Mae, and I just happen to have a Mae… this might just be a birthday present I give to myself.
Have a great birthday!!!
What a great idea for you and Jeanne to go to MDCC. I really hope to go again too, just can’t count on my back, just hoping. I would love the meet you both in person!! Also it is such fun.
Happy Birthday, Jeannie. Have a great day. Mae’s dress and shoes are really sweet on her. For this outfit I also vote for short panties. Maybe even gingham with flowered ruffles? On the hat I’m wondering if light blue the same color as the flowers in the dress would look more coordinated. Now I’m second guessing the dark blue bow? Looking forward to the end result.
Hope Jeanne, has a rocking birthday! Congrats on becoming almost part of the 70’s group. 🙂 It’s not bad at all.
And then, we have superstar Mae. in one of the cutest outfits ever! What a thrill to see her looking so sweet. Love her braids. When I saw the first ruffle yesterday, I couldn’t figure out what was next. I even enlarged a couple of pics to see if there was stitching on the bottom of the ruffle. I wanted to see if it was unfinished and going to be attached to another. Wrong. It was finished and by hand too. I love the look and the three tiers. It is definitely not too short. It’s a little girl dress and should not be longer at all. I would make her a pair of undies aka Rhumba panties like Charlotte mentioned but maybe not with even more ruffles. I think a plain pair with gathered waist and leg openings and made in the collar fabric would be perfect. And if you want more ruffles, maybe only one line of them. After all, I think we want little Mae to be able to sit comfortably. And I veto the pantalettes. The shoes are adorable and the hat a perfect accessory. Mae is definitely going to join the September fashion parade. 🙂
We’re looking at a warm weekend here. Supposed to be 91 I think. But, the deck is starting to look like a deck once again. Yay
Have a fun weekend everyone.
Dear Jeanne, Birthday Blessings from the Sofa Sister in all of the different time zones! I know we are excited to hear about your birthday adventure.
I like Mae’s dress. I like short dresses on little girls. I liked the dresses that Shirley Temple wore. You can always make her some “fancy pants” with ruffles that are made to be seen.
Happy Birthday, Jeanne! The years sure sneak by! Can’t believe I’m 15 years older than you are! What happened? Another thing that sneaks up on us is the ages of our children. Yikes!
The whole ensemble is wonderful! Can’t believe you could get three rows of ruffles on such a tiny little doll! The tights and shoes are perfect! You’ve really mastered all sizes of shoes and hats too. I like the blue bow.
Have a wonderful day, month, year!
Happy Birthday Jeanne!! Hope you have a fantastic one! Mae’s dress is adorable.
Happy birthday!! Can’t wait to hear all about it. I’m coming up on my last year of having a 7 in front of my number. But as a good friend of mine used to say, it sure beats the alternative.
I love Mae’s dress. I admire your hand hemming the ruffles but no way I would have done that on a doll dress. But I do love the look of hand hemming on children’s clothes.
I think the length of Mae’s dress is just perfect. She is after all a little girl. When Andrea was little I used to buy pretty panties from embroiderthis.com and machine embroider designs on the backs. I never liked the look of a diaper showing and this was a nice option under a short dress. I used to make them to sell at our church Fall Fiesta and I still have some left to sell.
Those shoes!!! Oh how adorable. I love the leather and the flower and leaf are perfection. Sadly I don’t have a Mae or this would be a tempting purchase. Hope you will find just the right ribbon and flowers to complete this outfit. You can certainly count this among your many winners.
Still hot here but I swear I felt a small breeze coming from the north when I was out shaking my bathroom rugs this morning. We are supposed to get a front next week but it will not drop our temps much but it will drop the humidity. I’ll settle for that at this time of year.
Happy Birthday, Jeanne! I hope you have a wonderful day.
Mae dress is so cute and I love all the ruffles as well as the fabric. Yes, rumba panties would be fun. Love the cute shoes.
Love love love Mae’s little dress!😍
Happy Birthday Jeanne Hope you have a lovely time with George.
Well I am home, my lovely holiday is over and it is back to work. Well housework anyway. I already cut my nails they had grown quite a lot but wouldn’t last long anyway even wearing gloves for cleaning!
I am very tired and my brain is still a bit fuzzy after travelling for 36 hours. Not to mention jet lag. I will comment longer next week and send some photos.
Have a great day everyone
So glad that you have arrived home safely. Looking forward to the pics and take it easy. Jet lag is such a pain. 🙂
Supposed to hit 91 and higher the next few days here. Not looking forward to it.
Welcome home, Anne! Hope you can give yourself a couple of days to just relax and get adjusted to the time change and the lengthy travel time. I’m glad you had such a wonderful trip, and a chance to see dear family members again!!
Happy Birthday, Jeanne!!!
Hope your day has been fantastic…Happy Birthday! I read someplace that our 70’s are the new “60’s”, the 80’s are the new “70’s”, and so on…so we are all still young at heart!! And our love of dolls keeps us young as well!
Happy Birthday Jeanne! I hope you have a great day.
Mae’s dress is cute.
