HI everyone,
Just a quick reminder that my Civil War dress for the American Girl dolls, “Summer’s End” ends this evening (Wednesday) on Ebay. If you haven’t seen it or want to check it out, click on the picture at the right side bar or click HERE. I hope I see some of you at “the Finish Line!” *wink* *wink*
Also, I wanted to answer Barbara’s question. She was asking about a place here in town that I’ve shown pictures of. It’s called Cool Spoons, and yes, it’s still open. They serve ice cream, yogurt, sorbet in about 8 or 10 different machines. Then they have zillions of toppings for you to “decorate” your ice cream with. You name it, they have it! Pineapple, Strawberries, Andies mints, cashews, pecans, hot fudge, Fruit Loops, Snickers pieces, Reese’s pieces, marshmallows, even bacon, and SO MUCH MORE! You put what you want on your “sundae” and then you have it weighed… It’s so much per ounce, I think. I have a gift card in my purse right now from there. For Mother’s Day, our church gave all the mother’s in the congregation that day, a gift card to Cool Spoons! I just remembered I had it! I’ll have to take some pictures of the place inside, when I go… which will be sooner than later, since you reminded me!!! :o)
We have some more pictures from Sissy like she shared yesterday. She has LOTS of doll pictures today… you’re going to love it!! Get your cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy the “mostly” slideshow! Sissy does a little narrating in between pictures! Thank you again Sissy, it was wonderful to see more pictures of the doll convention! It sure looks fun to attend one of these!
This is Riley by Hellen Kish. She was donated for the Helper room. When I was sewing for Hellen Kish, this is one of the dolls she had for MDCC when she came here several years ago. I made the riding outfits on those dolls. They were so cute on the little horses and riding hat that came with them.
Here is my Little Darling doll in the outfit I won in the Helper room. My Peyton is a Bull Dog fan, so I was really pleased that it fit my doll.
Magalie Dawson had the cutest workshop. I didn’t give a workshop this year so I helped her with hers. She gave me one of her cute items. She had this box with the Alice in Wonderland picture and inside were 7 doll panties, one for each day of the week. They had marks for places to make French Knots on each pantie. I had fun teaching some of the members how to make French Knots.
Ok, here are a lot of facebook photos of dolls that members bought or brought with them to MDCC. I thought you might enjoy seeing some of these dolls people are making now.
Here are a few more. First here are some photos of the Helper Room where many dolls or doll things are donated from MDCC members. We had a huge amount of things this year and even had to bring in extra tables. I took so many doll furniture items, bags of doll shoes, bags of doll hats and a few dolls that it took3 helpers and me 3 hours to get all of mine to set up with the baskets where the tickets would be
places. All of mine ended up with happy winners. There was a lot of help from members getting all of the boxes unloaded and the goodies set up. Here are only a few photos for you to get the idea.
Each year many of the doll makers have dolls for sale that you can purchase before you attend the convention. Then you go to a dinner where they give a program and you get your doll after dinner. Each table will have a very special higher cost doll or dolls at the center. This is called the “centerpiece” doll and your put you name on the pot if you want to buy one of them. This year the doll I had bought for the Dianna Effner little Darling doll was the Queen of Hearts. She is really lovely. The Centerpiece doll was the White Queen, and there was a small one with her, too. Here are the photos.
Here is the Ruby Red doll I bought, her name is Savannah. She is lovely and so is her outfit except for her shoes. They are very clunky and her long pants are ugly. Fortunately, I will be making her some other outfits. There was a small doll to go with her, but I didn’t buy her. I have the photo of the small doll, too.
Here is my sweet little one from the Meadow dolls. She is so cute! Also here are 2 dolls in the Sales room that I really loved. First is one of Magalie Dawson’s and the other is a special Little Darling that will only have 10 made by Nellie and Lana. She has tiny teeth and movable arms. Wish I could afford one of those!
There is so much to see and if you were on MDCC Chat page on Face book you would see SO much more, even the videos that were shown at the meal events.
Next year it is going to be in Indianapolis. Surely hope that God and my back will let me go.
hugs,
Sissy

Oh, wow!! (well, maybe I said that yesterday, but WOW! again!!) So much to look at!!
Sissy your doll looks very happy with that Bulldog outfit! It’s so cute. I’m sure she will help Peyton cheer on his favorite team!
I would have Loved to be in Magalie’s class! Just the little box with the panties and the embroidery supplies, etc., would have been fabulous to have, I think.
Such a variety of dolls! I can’t say I’m fond of some of them, but for sure I would have put at least quite a few of my tickets in the bag for #10! She’s darling.
Your new Ruby Red doll is beautiful, but I see what you mean about the shoes. I’m wondering if they were trying for a steampunk vibe?
That last Little Darling (in the red dress) is just gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing pictures.
Oh, and, Sissy, in reference to your comment yesterday, 4H is way more than it was when we were kids. I remember sewing, cooking, “good grooming” and various animals as special-interest sub-groups, but now they have 4H for almost everything, including robotics, photography, art, jewelry making, and I don’t remember what-all, and, of course, cooking, sewing, needlework, and so on.
What eye candy for today, Jeanne! I would have loved to see this in person! While some dolls are not my cup of tea, the outfits are just outstanding and so fun to look at!
That little trunk of day-of-the-week panties made me laugh to think I would be changing doll panties to go with the correct day of the week! As a little girl, I remember having those, but hardly ever had the “right” day panties on!😉
That cutie with the teddy bear bow is just darling, and the white fairy right before her picture is so magical looking! Magalie’s creations are just always top of the line to me! As far as that last doll, does anyone remember when dolls DID have plastic teeth? I remember a few of mine did, and for some reason we were always pushing on them! I can see why American Girl painted theirs on!😉
As far as 4-H, I also was a member, but the sewing and flower arranging were the two main things I remember best. Oh, the trials we had trying to display our flower specimen’s to last for more than a day, and trying to make our sewing look as good on the inside as the outside for the county fair! Stressful times!🤣
Your Savannah doll is just beautiful, Sissy, both doll and dress, but I agree about those shoes! Some dainty ballet flats would be more appropriate for that gorgeous gown!
So glad y’all are enjoying the photos. I hope other sisters will too. I knew you wouldn’t care for some of the dolls you would see, I certainly don’t like them but wanted to give you a look to what is happening in the doll world.
I do wish more of you would get on face book, there are so many places there to see lots of dolls. The Modern Doll Collectors Convention Chat, and places to see certain dolls that are just being shown off buy their owners as well as selling doll clothes and dolls. I sell mostly on face book and Jeanne shows her outfits and gives the ebay place where to find them.
Going to pick up some fresh red snapper for to night’s dinner. It is the last night my DIL and Simone will be here as they go tomorrow to St. Simon’s where the wedding activities will be. We will joining them after we get to where we are staying on Friday. I hope to keep up with you, will try.
Oh, sissy, I AM on Facebook! I just don’t have time to look at everything in the doll world, but do belong to a few.
I am glad to know that you are on fB. I guess we would have to have a Sofa Sister face book page if we did not have Jeanne’s blog.
I have Linda’s problem. There are so many doll groups I belong to on FB that I tend to look as much as I can but don’t comment much.
I didn’t know that you had made the outfits for Riley. They were so cute. And those undies from Magalie are adorable and a fun project. So nice of you to help with those French knots. 🙂
I’m on FB too, Sissy. I just stick to the few RRFF groups. I also try to only “visit” briefly three days a week during a break for lunch. When I’m through I’m off.
Sissy, thank you so much for sharing these photos of the doll extravaganza, Modern Doll Collectors Convention. What a great event. All of the dolls are beautiful and the outfits are stunning. I am not too sure what to make of the dolls with the huge boney hands and dark eyes.
Are they some special kind of collection? modern or old?
The last photo of the Little Darling in Red with the cute pup is very adorable
Happy Wednesday everyone!!
Rosemary, those dolls are made by Connie Lowe and they are so popular by her fans that they have to have a number on a card to get a place in line to buy one. I never got into them but Connie and her husband are a sweet as can be. She works so hard to get all these dolls ready.
Oh, thank you Sissy and Jeanne for sharing the great photos. I particularly loved seeing the Connie Lowe girls. Going to a show/convention is the only way one can get a CL doll now or from the second hand market, so many of us can’t add to our collections. My two girls would love to have a sister. Maybe someday. That Helper Room looks like the place to go. I guess you buy tickets and then deposit in the bag by the item you might win? Some really nice items there. So fun. Sissy’s new Effner queen is lovely. Congrats. And I love Savanna’s outfit. I think the shoes are part of the designer’s look, but I agree that some satin slippers would be sweet as well. I really enjoyed seeing all of the dolls. Thanks Sissy.
Around here, progress is coming along on the new decking. The pile of new wood is shrinking so that is a good sign. More weeding was accomplished too. Will it ever end? Not a clue. 🙂
Oh, and now we need to add in a stop at Cool Spoons in Carbondale, to our trip itinerary. Thanks Barbara.
You’re welcome. So glad it’s still there. Really strange how that place stuck in my mind when Jeanne posted the pictures a good while ago. I knew you had some Connie Lowe dolls but I had no idea they were so hard to get. Looks like I won’t be tempted to buy one. They are really cute.
What an enjoyable presentation today. I love all the pictures, even though some of the dolls creep me out a little. I get Dolls Magazine and there are a lot of dolls that do the same in the magazine. I guess it’s what interests you. I love Savannah including her shoes. I have a steampunk pattern and those shoes would go great with it. I love the Riley doll outfit and I’m so glad the outfit you won fit your doll. What did Peyton say when you showed it to him? Who is the doll with the droopy eyes? She is really cute but she looks so sad, as does her doll. How lucky you are to have been able to spend time with Magalie. She is a special lady. She has painted all but one of my Little Darlings. When I first started collecting them I did not know about Magalie but soon found out because every time I tried to order one from Dianna Effner’s website, it was closed to orders. I have many of Magalie’s patterns too. Her designs are so amazing.
I really would love to go to a doll convention but I’d have to go by myself. When I mentioned joining me hubby said a resounding “No”. There was a time when he would accompany me anywhere I wanted to go. I once had him drive from Texas to Nova Scotia because I was studying Scots Gaelic and they had a college there I wanted to visit. But these days road trips are not as appealing as they once were and quite frankly traffic is a problem for me. It doesn’t bother me when I’m driving but riding is not fun anymore and with all the big trucks on the road it’s become very stressful. I’ve started checking out train travel but depending on where one lives options can be few. My sister and her husband live in south Delaware in the summer but live in Florida in the winter. They take the Autotrain from the DC area to Orlando which is nearby where they live. So they have their car with them. They put their car on the train and relax until they retrieve it in Florida. But that is the only route the train travels. I checked with Amtrak to see if they would be doing more but they said not at this time. Probably has to do with making it more convenient for people in the DC area to get to Florida. We don’t have that kind of clout here.
Barbara, I am so sorry you won’t go on a plane. I know there are folks who won’t, I have gone to so many on planes, some times alone, others with Peyton and other times to MDCC with my neighbor. Always fine. I wish you could.
You are right about Magalie, I have known her through sewing for many years and met her in person one other MDCC and of course, this one. I am glad you have so many of her dolls.
More lovely photos today, Sissy. Your little darling is so cute in her new outfit. I also love the tile in your kitchen? or whatever room we are looking at. It’s just beautiful!
I love Magalie’s creations! When I was first on the doll board she was still very active. Her outfits for the PC/AG girls were absolutely exquisite. The detail she put into each on was bar none. French knots are fun. I made a dresser scarf for my grandmother when I was six or seven with French knots all over the ladies’ skirt.
Neat to see the various dolls being made. I see the latest RRFF The only one that appeals to me is the little girl with the bear on hairbow and dress. Your Queen of Hearts in very pretty. I saw the White Queen when Allison was unboxing Savannah on her channel. The Little Darling with teeth is really cute.
If anyone is interested, I just saw that Modern Doll Collectors Convention will be offering extras for sale tomorrow, Thursday, and there are two that Sissy showed. RRed Savanna and Effner’s Red Queen. Address below. 🙂
The Souvenir Shoppe will open at noon eastern time this Thursday, 8/28 for extra convention dolls. https://www.moderndoll.org/shop
Thanks, Joy. I’ll check it out.
