Doll dresses in Red, White and Blue by Sylvia

Hi everyone,

Just a few comments about what was mentioned yesterday… and by the way, thank you for all your concern and prayers. I hope this run of surgeries and mishaps ends soon.

Rosemary… when you said if you lived closer you just might come over and scold me for not going to the doctor sooner or doing dangerous things. Yikes, should I be scared??? They never were dangerous before… it was just a freak thing that happened this time.

Sissy… I’m so sorry you fell off the bench you were sitting on and hit your back and head on a wagon. I was like you, the push mower was still running (loudly) and there was no sense in yelling for my hubby, he never would have heard me!

Laura…I thought the courtyard area was the last part I needed to do, but I saw 2 little sections I had missed and wanted to get them taken care of. Since my “fall” I have decided I will leave the courtyard for last and TURN OFF THE MOWER… even if I have more and let my hubby come back out and start the mower. Good call!

Marsha…I think I WILL go to the doctor if I ever have something like this happen again. My head and neck are still very sore and I still have a headache… which I normally don’t have.

Linda… I did receive your pictures and will show them soon… Thank you so much for filling in for me! I truly appreciate it.
I was trying to see if I could get the extra length on the inside pockets for my hubby’s pants and I could feel my neck pulling as I had my head tilted down. So pictures will be welcomed!

Anne… I wanted to tell you I watched New Zealand and Iran play soccer in the World Cup this evening. Congratulations on your 2 points. It was a great game! We don’t have cable or any apps for sports programs, but we have a Smart TV and I watched the game on Telemundo… a Spanish channel and commentary in Spanish. Wow…they sure talked fast. I just mostly watched the game and could tell what was happening just by watching what was going on.

Okay… now for Sylvia’s 15 minutes of fame!!!

I mentioned you would want to see the pictures Sylvia, in New Hampshire, shared with me and today you are going to be thrilled. I “think” she said she had made 250 doll dresses, but she will have to correct me if I’m wrong. Maybe she was making dresses for the 250th Celebration. However many she’s made, we get to check out 8 of them today! I hope you’ll click the pictures so they’ll enlarge and you can see all the details.

Sylvia also said she thinks my hubby and I need to be put in a glass case. I’m about ready to get in!

Here are her sweet pictures. They are ALL American Girl dolls… I know some of you will be VERY happy!!! :o)

Thank you Sylvia! I appreciate your pictures so much!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow, what a lot of eye candy today!! Thank you Sylvia!! Each time I saw another picture, I was thinking, “I like this one best” and then, “no, this one…” But I think my favorites (at least right this minute) are the one with the star buttons (second from last) and the one with the shirred bodice and piped seams (fourth from last). Okay, the one just above that one, too, which looks like something Felicity would wear.

The newspaper hats are wonderful! I remember making newspaper hats like that when I was a kid in the 1950s! That brought back some memories, for sure.

An update on my snapdragons: they are FULL of buds!

And now….some really sad and distressing news. I found out this morning that my former daughter-in-law, mother to two of my grandchildren, was killed in a terrible car accident Sunday night. I have spent a good part of the morning on the phone with Isaac (her and Daniel’s son) and this evening with her older sister Molly, who I have known for quite a number of years. In both phone calls, among all the stuff that was discussed, I was told by both, that Sarah “sure did love you”. And I know she did, and I loved her, too. Every conversation or messaging ended with “I love you” or even “I just love you so much, Charlotte”.

Isaac is trying so hard to be grown up (he’s 24), and both Molly and I have been able to give him some guidance and advice, and Molly has talked to the coroner as well as setting up a cremation appointment for when Sarah’s body is released.

Please keep her family (two children, three sisters, a brother, and extended members) in prayer. Especially her children. Lily will be 19 next month. That is so young to lose your mom.

In case you are wondering, this is the lady for whom you prayed when she had the heart attack and following triple bypass surgery almost two years ago, from which she recovered beautifully. Sarah just turned 47 last month. She was the daughter of my heart.

Oh, Charlotte, I am so very sorry for the loss of this lady. There are so many that loved her and the young ones that needed her. I am sending prayers up for the family and for you as well. God bless and keep you all.

    2. Charlotte, how very tragic and very sad about Sarah. You spoke often of her and how close you two were. Thinking of you and Sarah’s family.

    3. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

So sorry Charlotte, It was a terrible shock for you. I will be praying for you and the family

    4. Barbara in SE Texas

Oh Charlotte I am so sorry to hear this. I know how much you loved her. When Dionne and Sean were having their problems last year I was devastated thinking she might be out of my life so I know how much this must be hurtful to you. You were blessed with a great relationship after a difficult time. Prayers for you and all the family, and extra ones for Isaac and Lily.

    5. Karen from Kentucky

Dear Charlotte, I am so very sorry for your loss of Sarah! She sounds like a sweet lady. Prayers for her and your family. May God hold you close.

Sylvia, what beautiful dresses and what professional looking photography! Everything. Is so clear and bright! I LOVE your take on Addy’s Patriotic Dress! Did you use American Girl patterns for these? That first red one on Kirsten and the last picture of Addy in the striped dress are my favorites! I love the fabrics you used, such authentic ones, yet modern in a way,, that you know they are meant to be patriotic dresses.

Felicitity’s dresses are just perfect, and I love the newspaper hats! I never did get the “hang” of making those! Thank you SO much for sending them to Jeanne and to Jeanne for showing them!

Oh Charlotte, how terrible to hear about your ex-daughter-in-law! What a shock to the family and to her children. She was much too young! Sending prayers to you and your family.

Thank you, Sylvia, for the doll candy outfits! They are fabulous and perfect for the 250 celebration. The paper hats remind me of my older son’s 5 birthday. I dressed him in red, white and blue and all the kids had paper hats with red feathers. I gave them noise makers and they marched up and down the side walk. The decor in the house was all red, white and blue. I don’t remember why I chose this theme, his birthday is in May. Thank you for my memory, and the fun to see all you beautiful outfits on your lovely dolls.

We are both heading out to the dentist, don’t know when we will be back since Peyton’s is pretty hard.

Jeanne and George, the ones I pray for over and over. God bless you two and bring you better each day. My neck is a bit better today.

    1. Joy in northern CA

The r/w/b May celebration sounds like a lot of fun. And glad to hear that your neck is getting back on track.

  4. Oh Jeanne 😓 I did not mean to sound so stern. I am sorry. If I lived closer I certainly would not scold you, I would run to help!
I need to go back and re read that comment. I am so sorry. I did not mean to sound so hurtful. 😭

I am glad that you and George are still managing. Both of you need extra loving care.

Sometimes it s kind of great to watch tv with the commentary turned off, so I am glad both of you enjoyed the game! We do not have complicated tv either, as we do not watch a lot of tv. We do have Youtube tv, which is not expensive and has a lot of excellent documentaries and “shows”

Sylvia, your AG dolls are beautiful! I love their dresses very much! Did you make them? The dresses are lovely, the girls are perfectly dressed so neat and tidy, excellent photos. You are really good! I do not take such great photos.
These pictures, I could look at them all day! very nice backgrounds too.
Thank you for sharing them today!
Dear Charlotte, I am so sad to hear about your daughter in law. This is crushing news. Life is so precious. I will keep all of you in my prayers for love and courage. This is tragic.
Sissy, I am glad you are feeling better. Injuries are so mentally and physically consuming – really exhausting. Good luck at the dentist for both of you.

I went to the old house yesterday and did some quickie gardening. I got a nice fresh collection on bug bites. They itch horribly.
I should go over today and remove some nails and stuff from the walls. I will check with the real estate agent. Selling a house is exhausting too.
Several bushes in the front yard actually look kind of terrible. I fed them and watered them but I should probably google around on the internet to figure out what they are suffering from.
haha if it were not so insect biting annoying outside, I would dig those guys up and put in the bushes here at the new house. Why didn’t I do that over winter?

I hope every one of you dear ones have a smooth easy day today. We are consumed by warranty home owner repairs on our one year old house, all nice guys, all of them speak spanish, so I have no idea what they are talking about, both of them are having a discussion while sanding and painting the trim on the stair case. I am certain it is not about painting ahhahahaha very funny really. If they were “english speaking” they would probably not be chattering. I do not know much spanish.
I love all of you dears.
    ~Rosemary

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Thank you, Rosemary, for caring about my injury and also our dentist today. We are home, he worked on my teeth and they look better. Poor Peyton had four lower teeth removed and will have a bridge soon. Our dentist did fill them in so he wont look bad.

We are off to go vote now. Have a good day, and hope your spanish guys do a good job.

I didn’t see your comment yesterday, so I’m late in wishing you a speedy recovery. Falls onto one’s back are always very painful. I hope your husband is doing a little better. Take the time to rest—it’s the only solution. And tonight, you have to watch the football match; it’s France’s first game… My husband is a big football fan, and on top of that, Ferrari won on Sunday! This morning, all his colleagues dressed in red to cheer him up. Have a lovely day, everyone.

    1. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

      Hi Georgina
My family are all football fans. We have to pay to watch most of the games here, since I already have a sports programme that I pay for (they lost out in the bidding for the rights) I wasn’t keen to pay again but I have a chart on my desk and keep a record of all the scores. They are playing at the moment I think so enjoy the game.

It looks like you’ve figured out what the problem was and how to avoid it in the future. Considering all the work you’ve done, you’ve done pretty well in avoiding accidents, and you should pat yourself on the back if you can do that without moving your head.

I’ve lost another cousin. There are 23 of us, so it’s bound to happen. L’s obituary picture shows a woman with great hair and a huge smile — she looks like someone fun to be around, which was true. Most of us live in Colorado, but L’s nephew settled in Wisconsin, and 25 years ago she decided he ought to have family nearby and moved to the same small town. Her girlfriend followed, and they made themselves so helpful that, though they spent their evenings in L’s nephew’s bar, the townspeople thought they were nuns. I suppose that changed when the women married.

L was someone who could be counted on to saying the quiet part out loud, preferably in public. Anyone talking to or about her was having a good time. Fortunately she has 6 surviving siblings, so there will be L stories around for a long time.

She lived the way she wanted to and died loved. You can’t do much better than that.

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

So sorry to lose a cousin, but glad you still have some around. I only had one younger cousin and she passed long ago. We have a small family.

    2. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Hi Marilyn, I had 25 cousins but many have died, only one who was older than me! They were all on my mother’s side, neither of my dad’s two siblings had children

    3. Joy in northern CA

I only had 7 cousins, and now, only three left and all on my father’s side. None left on my Mom’s. No large families here, but I am close to those remaining.

  7. Absolutely stunning!! Impossible to pick a favorite dress. The fabrics chosen look like they were designed for these outfits. The display is so much fun to look at. I’ll be saving these. Thank you Sylvia and Jeanne for sharing.

Charlotte sending prayers for all who knew your dil, she will be missed.

    Have a great day all.

A big congrats to New Zealand! They tied their World Cup game yesterday and will play next Monday, I think, in Vancouver. I’ll bet that Anne’s relatives will be hoarse today from supporting their team. 🙂
I hope that both Jeanne and George are improving each day. I think that it is time to call/follow up with whoever schedules surgery for George. You know, the squeaky wheel thing. You would think that they would have a date available by now. I guess that I’m pretty pushy with phone calls and absolutely do not like waiting. Bad me.
Sylvia’s dresses are absolutely amazing. The thought and workwoman ship is the tops. Each photo brings such pleasure. The combination of fabrics and accessories are exciting and so pleasing to the eye. Like most everyone, I too remember making those newspaper hats. So fun to see them in doll size. Now this is how the 4th should be celebrated. 🙂 I know that I’ll be putting up our r/w/b decorations. A big thank you to Sylvia and Jeanne, for sharing today.
Tomorrow, we are going to have to be up way too early and arrive at the other house to meet the tree cutters. We worked very hard yesterday moving everything in preparation. The potting area was the worst. I expected to find spiders, but not an infestation of black widows. I gingerly moved each pot and flipped them to discover the egg sacks and huge spiders residing there. I even got other person to help with a few. I felt like a giant attacking the village, but, there was no other way. It was a massacre, but the survivors will find a new place to live I’m sure. Then, other person tore apart the crumbling potting bench and the area is clear for the tree people. I did a lot of pruning and did get the redbud tree tied up to the fence so it looks presentable. Coco cat was very hungry and also helped us by jumping on every branch that moved as I was cutting. Still not sure what we’ll do with her during the tree work. I do need to move some rocks out in front for tree removal there. We’re having two trees removed, but that should only take a minute. I was able to connect with the neighbor next door yesterday. They were so happy that we were going to remove the tree. It should improve their solar and garden production. 🙂 We’re pretty exhausted, so today it will be watering only there and the same here.
    Stay safe everyone!

Thank you Joy, it could so easily have been a win for us. NZ is ranked the lowest of all the teams in the World cup. Iran are 20th, NZ is 85th in the world. To have scored twice to lead was such an achievement. Now the next opponents won’t take us so lightly so we will have to be on our toes. My son and grandson were in LA for the game and are going on to Vancouver to watch the next two games.

  9. Sylvia, what beautiful outfits!! Loved the various designs you created and the paper hats were very cute.
I especially liked the dress Kit ( I think it was Kit) was wearing and the long dress on the fifth doll down. All very really pretty and unique.
    Thanking you for sharing.
Hope you feel better today, Jeanne, although it might take awhile for the neck muscles to relax to normal.

  10. Oh, Sylvia, what beautiful and exquisite dresses! I really like the one on Felicity as well as the last one on Addy. Evette makes a lovely historical girl. That dress is so pretty with the piping. The sashes you created for Kirsten and Addy are lovely. Kit is so sweet!
The newspaper hats are so cute. I remember making them in art class in the 70s.

Oh wow!!! So many beautiful dresses. Wonderful creativity. Thanks Sylvia and Jeanne for sharing.

I was up to my ears in have-tos yesterday and didn’t check in with the blog. I did this morning and was shocked to hear what happened. It could have been so much worse, but I definitely think a quicker trip to the ER would have been better. So risky when you hit your head like that. Many people fall skiing every year and many hit their heads with no repercussions (or concussions) but I remember when actress Natasha Richardson fell skiing and hit her head they thought she was okay and a few days later she passed away from a head injury. I’m so thankful the damage was no more than it was although that in itself is a pain in the neck (pun intended). I remember once we were in an auto accident and I saw it coming and scrunched down in my seat and sprained my neck. I went to the chiropractor but didn’t know exactly what to tell him so I just told him my head felt too big. He knew exactly what was wrong. I didn’t think of the bowling ball analogy.

Raining a bunch here. We were supposed to start on Sunday but when that didn’t happen I thought maybe we wouldn’t get any from the weather situation in the southern Gulf but I forgot about the front coming through. So unusual to have fronts come through at this time of year but when they do they tend to stall over us and that’s when there’s a lot of flooding. Praying that doesn’t happen. Aside from all the damage and problems for people, every time Houston floods our house insurance goes up. We end up paying for people in flood-prone areas even when we aren’t. People have been checking around but it appears all the insurance companies are in cahoots and not competing for business.

I just went back and read yesterday’s comments on the blog. Obviously my Sofa Sisters have been keeping their guardian angels very busy. But it reminded me of something that happened in PT yesterday. Not to me but it could have been serious for another woman there. She was walking on the treadmill and all of a sudden she started yelling for someone to come help her. The treadmill was running away with her and she was barely keeping up. The therapist working with me was the first to hear her yell and ran over to stop the machine. Evidently the woman had pushed the wrong button. I think I would have called it a day but as soon as she caught her breath she was back walking again, but keeping her hands well away for the buttons.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Now, that is scary happening at a PT session. Some one should have been on guard. I think many machines have an emergency key or something that if you stumble or try to get off, they auto turn off. Glad she didn’t seem to be injured.

  13. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Jeanne, I am so glad you are feeling a bit better and have decided to be more cautious when mowing!
I am glad you enjoyed the game, NZ played really well and gave Iran a shock I think. I wish they had defended as well as they attacked though.
I see France are 0 all nearly halfway through.
Someone online said no-one was interested in the World Cup till USA hosted! I wonder what rock he has been living under, it is the most watched tournament in the world bar none. I was in UK when the 2006 world cup was on. I forget who was hosting but when England played there was no one in the streets anywhere. That scenario happens in all sorts of countries.
Joy, I can’t imagine finding black widows in my garden!!!! I don’t think I would be setting foot in there again!
Sylvia, I loved your dolls, did you make all their outfits? They are all lovely.
Barbara, I really hope the rain stops before it causes problems. It has rained here this week, real rain not just a sprinkle, but not enough to cause a problem fortunately. The weekend is supposed to be warmer again.
    Have a good day everyone
