Hi everyone,
My fever has gone away…and I hope it stays away… my cough is still hanging around, but I had my hubby go to town and get me some Robitussin DM like Rosemary (who’s our Sofa nurse), suggested. I would love to sleep all through the night without one-single-coughing-my-head-off episode, and then go all day tomorrow without adding any more kleenex’s to MY trash can. ICK!
It doesn’t take too much effort to write a post….ESPECIALLY WHEN SOMEONE ELSE SUPPLIES THE PICTURES!! Thanks Linda!!!
Okay, I have to thank Anne in New Zealand for mentioning “The Great British Sewing Bee!” a few weeks ago. She said it could be found on Roku on the TV, but I knew a sewing series would never fly with my hubby in charge of the TV remote. The little TV I used to have in my sewing room only brought in the local channels, so nothing special.
But now that my hubby found this “Smart TV” upstairs and hooked it up in my sewing room, I saw I could get Roku so I became VERY techy and figured it out all by myself how to get to it. The series started at Season 1, Episode 1, and I watched a few of them, just sitting in my sewing chair Anne, the shows are WONDERFUL… Right up my alley, as a seamstress! They have about 8 people start out in the beginning and they are each given sewing challenges and judged on them and at the end of the week, someone has to go home. :o( so the competition gets a little tougher and you find yourself rooting for a certain person.
Anyway, I have enjoyed the shows and hope to watch more of them… Actually a few of the challenges were really fun to watch… one challenge was they had to pick fabric from the Haberdashery store and make a little girls shirred (almost like smocking) dress with spaghetti straps. Another challenge was they were given a gray wool purse with a clasp on the top and they got to pick some beads and threads and “embellishments” and trims and then had to decorate the purse all by hand. Another challenge was they had to make a pair of leggins from some stretchy fabric and they had to fit perfectly on the mannequin they were given… One, they had to make a box pleated skirt, and I actually found myself talking in my head to these men and women telling them to make the box pleats first so you could match up the designs or plaids first…
It’s just fun for me to watch them all trying to solve sewing and fabric problems… I hope maybe some of you might like to watch a few episodes of it… I think it was the 2013 season I was watching… and I’m assuming it’s still going on with the 2026 season, but not sure. Anyway, I like it…
NOW… Below are 3 pictures from Linda’s girls dressed up so cute, but she has more…
I decided to split them up and show her other 5 pictures on Friday. We will finish up “Christmas Week” Friday! I know Christmas is long gone, but these Christmas pictures are too pretty to miss… so come back tomorrow…
Linda is narrating her pictures below…
This is Girl Scout Cookie time here in St. Louis, and my modern girls are taking orders! It had to be the modern girls because the sign has something about online orders, and of course the prices, $6 a box! Yikes!
Here are the 40’s girls dressed for winter weather for school, I would guess!
(Linda, I love Emmy in her Brownie outfit! She is adorable!!!!)
Here are the 40’s girls dressed for winter weather for school, I would guess!
Here are Cecile and Kirsten dressed for winter weather. Cecile has Addy’s original wool school outfit on. Kirsten, of course has her skirt and blouse set on with her winter woolens.
Love to you, and hope you are feeling better!
Linda💕
Thank you Linda, well, I dusted off my sewing machines while scooting on my sewing chair. I must be getting better, but still not totally up to doll sewing just yet…
Oh, and I might add something Dorothy in PA sent me too… Something to cause a little chatter.
See everyone tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m glad to hear your fever has broken, Jeanne; that is a step in the right direction! Hope the Robitussin DM does its magic for you so you can get a good night’s sleep tonight.
Oh, gosh, I think now I’m going to have to get a smart TV so I can watch the Great British Sewing Bee, also! It sounds so much fun, and more interesting that Project Runway ever was.
Linda, as usual, your girls look wonderful! I would like to order some Samoas, and some of those peanut butter ones, and it seems like there was another kind or two that I liked, also! 😁 Do the girls do mail order?!
Your other girls look nice and warm for winter. Of course, I recognize Molly’s “meet” outfit and Kirsten’s winter knits, as I have them both, too.
Yesterday Rosemary mentioned snowpants; I used to have some, with a matching parka, but sadly I “outgrew” them, and not in a good way! I bought them on an end-of-season sale, deeply discounted, at Sears, when we were first married–in the KIDS’ department, that’s how skinny I was then! We don’t get snow real often in the Seattle area, but it was sure nice to have appropriate clothing when we did, so I could go out and play in the snow with my then-little boy (who is 50 now).
Thank you everyone, for the kind thoughts and prayers. Ron’s birthday went pretty well, actually. Daniel and I took flowers to the cemetery as planned, and spent part of the late afternoon/early evening together. He has promised to come down and spend my birthday with me next week, too.
Thank you, Charlotte! Well, I am not sure if your “order” will be going g through!🤣. If it could, it would, I guess! I had fun setting this up and printing out the banner. I was a Brownie, Girl Scout, GS leader and cookie chairman back in the day, so this is very relevant to me!
I can’t imagine getting anything in the children’s section as an adult, because I am 5’9, or at least I used to be!
You have a good son, Charlotte. I am so glad Daniel is there for you.
The British sewing bee sounds really great!
I hope you have pleasant weather for your birthday week and visit with your son. Great that you were able to figure out how to watch the Sewing Bee on that Smart TV. I would say you were highly motivated-enjoy!
Am I really the first one to comment? First time ever. What sweet dolls in their dresses today! I love them all! Such fun to see the Girl Scouts, so busy getting their orders in their cute outfits! The 40’s girls looking so warm and ready for school, and the last 2 as well. I love Kirsten’s outfit, so warm and pretty and the little house is lovely. thank you so much Linda.
So glad to hear you are getting better, Jeanne, and hoping the medication that Rosemary suggested will bring you back to feeling like yourself.
We are headed to the YMCA again, then we have to go to the car place to see what is going on with our little car, (It is a FIT). I think that maybe all that driving has been hard on it. Will catch up with Y’all later.
I just saw Charlotte’s Comment now, so I am not first, LOL!
❤️ Charlotte is sneaky 😁
I did love seeing your photos of Helen. Such a charming mountain town. I know you will miss your annual trips but will be much warmer by the coast each winter.
Thank you, Sissy for the kind words! As I wrote above to Charlotte, the Girl Scouts were a big part of my life, and I like to show my loyalty in any way I can.
Yes, Kirsten has such pretty clothes, and I actually got most of them before I got her! After getting a lot of them, I decided to get a brand new Kirsten when she came out for the 35th anniversary, and am so glad I did! All I need for her is her lunch, but a temporary one from Queen’s Treasures works for now.
That Dept. 56 building is a favorite of mine too!
Dear Linda, thanks for sharing your lovely doll children with us. Did you make the Girl Scout uniforms or are they AG made?
I just purchased peanut butter cookies from a member of my local doll club. She is selling cookies for her granddaughter.
Oh heavens, Dorothy, I did not make the GS uniforms! They are AG uniforms from several years ago, and I bought three of them so the 40’s girls could be a little troop, but sometimes the modern girls wear them, although that is not what the GS’s wear now.
Thank you for buying those cookies!💕
Dear Linda, I love the peanut butter cookies because they do not have chocolate, which I can’t eat. I was a Girl Scout for about 5 minutes, well really about a year. I think I was a Cadet. The troop leader was talking about us going to camp. That was enough to make me gasp (laugh). I immediately thought: bugs, latrines, hiking, uh no. That was too much for this “indoorsy” girl (smile).
I wish now that I would have realized that I could have stayed with the troop and just not go to camp. I think women’s friendships are so important. I celebrate the Girls Scouts for promoting this concept. And I always buy the peanut butter cookies! Yum.
Oh Dorothy, at my GS camp we slept on cabins, no bugs were around us. We ate on the trail, which was a lot of fun, and had a wonderful time! However, I do not think I would enjoy going camping now at my age! The thing I didn’t like about camp was the swimming. It does not appeal to me at all and never did.
While I am thanking people for their compliments, I want to thank YOU Jeanne, for always being so accommodating to show my pictures! I only want to help you out when you have other things going on, and I do enjoy showing my dolls, because you and the sofa sisters are really the only ones who appreciate them!
I’m so glad your fever is gone, and you are getting better. Just keep on doing what helps you, and please don’t overdo! Have you seen the weather forecast lately? All I can say is get ready to stay in this weekend!
Jeanne, terrific that your fever is gone! drink a lot of tea, and just about anything.
When my girls were little, I used to remind them to “flush out the cold” drink and pee. I think colds love dehydrated people, so do not be that person 🥰🥰😂
I truly hope the medication helps relieve the congestion and gets it moving OUT.
I think most of us know what you are going through. You can’t stay in the hot shower all day, but warm moist heat compress (I just soak a towel and microwave it warm) on your face feels really good and loosens up the junk. Also, try bending over when you have a coughing fit so that horrid stuff comes out (have tissues in hand) …… disgusting I know. This virus going around is really stubborn! Rest is good. I found taking the DM at bed time worked, and also if you wake at 3 or 4 in the morning, it is good. You can control your dosage with the liquid, and it is shorter lasting. Now, if the coughing over night is really bad, I would give the doctor a call. They do have a cough medicine for night time that has codeine in it, but you have to have one foot in your bed when you take it bc it will knock you out (great sleep) I have not taken that stuff in decades. The coughing can get so bad, I had a minor conjunctival hemorrhage in my eye!!
Linda, I adore your girl scouts. I just love all of your girls! So sweet. I love all of the outfits. Are these all made my AG? So sweet. And the winter outfits look really cozy. Everyone looks snuggly. Excellent settings for all of them!
I was never a girl scout. My oldest sister Dolley was a brownie for a short while, and My sister Joyce was a girl scout for a while. I am not sure what was going on in those years…. My mom was really overwhelmed with 4 kids but that is a story for another day.
I bet my snow pants are fitting a bit tight. I should try them on, now that my body shape has kind of rearranged itself.
I also have 2 pair of pants I got from Walmart 20+ years ago, made of… some swishy fiber, I think similar to what inexpensive tents are made of… that slippery stuff. Really great for wind and cold
I think once it was about 12 degrees outside, I crawled through the snow and woods in them. Lizzie and I were pretending we were stranded in some remote wintry location. I will test them out this week-end if I feel the urge to do something crazy like tramp around in feet of snow. The snow storm here is still a “go” but we will see. This area on the east coast is very unpredictable.
I hope all of you have a wonderful happy day today. Make your own sunshine!!
I am leaving for my bi-annual doctor check up, then zip by the old house to flush the toilets, and maybe grab some more treasures… then come home and snuggle my kitty.
Thank you, Rosemary! No, not all the clothes are AG, but the three 40’s girls are wearing AG clothes, just not Susette(Sara) or Betsy. Susette’s sweater/ skirt set is from EBay, and I still see it now and then, and Betsy’s is from a friend.
Of course, the Girl Scout outfits are AG, just not the Brownie one. I do actually have three GS outfits, for when the 40’s girls wear them, but Emmy wanted to be a Brownie this year, and I only have one of those. Betsy wore it last year, so I think I need to get another one. Those girls sure do let me know what they want!🙂
Emerson is soooo so cute. My grand girl got one for Christmas and when they came up I had a few simple clothes for her. What a cute adorable girl
So glad to hear that Jeanne is feeling better. Hoping for no relapses. If everyone hasn’t already received their flu shot, they can still be very effective as well as Covid shots, and those for RSV, if you are of the “age” like me go get them
Linda’s girls sparkle as they are out taking orders for cookie sales. So many memories there. And I love that little AG table. 🙂
The 40’s girls, always my favorite, look so fashionable and warm too. I love Sara’s little reindeer sweater outfit and Betsy’s is sweet too. I can’t remember seeing that outfit either. Fun.
Cecile and Kirsten look like they are all prepared to head outside and fashion a snow person. Fun for all eras. 🙂
Thanks so much Linda and Jeanne for sharing the so well thought out photos.
The mission today is to pick up more cat food. Of course, at Target, I can’t help stopping at the front bins to look for fun stuff for the dollies. 🙂 And we definitely need to pick up some Valentines as well. The special day is fast approaching. 🙂
Thank you, Joy! I don’t think you have seen Betsy’s outfit either, since she hasn’t worn it for awhile, and then I did not always send pictures of her in it, but it is really a cute little woolen sweater and skirt! Susette’s sweater/ skirt is a set that I got off EBay.
I too love that little table, and the legs are removeable, so it is easy to store, and I use it for a lot of things. I do believe it is on sale now from AG, if you are interested. It comes with a bunch of other things, really nice things too.
I didn’t seem to have time last year for my cookie sale scene, so thought I had better get this in before Valentine’s Day tine’s Day, which is just around the corner.
I always had good luck with Nyquil for breathing and sleeping at night. I think it can be addictive, but for a few days it works quite well. If I take it, I do go to sleep. The daytime version is Dayquil.
The sewing show sounds wonderful.
My niece sent me a Girl Scout cookies online order form. I have a 30- something friend with the same name, and I thought it was a scam from someone using her name when I got the form last year. This year I looked carefully and saw that my sister-in-law had given her my name. $6/box, 4 box minimum, and postage = $35, but as a child, I sold several things to earn money for organizations, so I thought I owed it to the universe to buy my share. Too many cookies and a pot of hot tea make a snowy afternoon quite nice.
And I agree with Rosemary that hot tea helps colds. My friend Grace used to add a piece of peppermint candy to her teacup to make the tea smoother and more soothing.
Thank you, Marilyn! Well, to tell you the truth, I really do prefer for the girls to do the selling themselves, versus online selling. It is just not very personal. I like the interaction of the girls and customers, and the pride they take in themselves in selling cookies, but of course in this day and age, sometimes it is not safe anymore. It is getting out of hand with parents taking orders at work, or online, so the girls make a lot more money than their peers, just like Little League is turning out to be too much parental involvement, and the kids are just pawns in the game.
I do not know where my reply to Marilyn went, but here goes again! I mentioned too that I prefer that the girls actually do the selling versus online or parents getting orders for them at work. It builds self confidence, and I remember feeling so “grown up” selling cookies! Of course, times change, and sometimes it is not safe for the girls to go out in some areas. I truly do understand that, but sometimes it does seem that the parents get too involved in the process, and the girls are just pawns in the process.
Yes, tea and cookies make a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!
Linda your girl scouts are so adorable. I was a brownie and a girl scout in the 50’s and early 60’s. Those years are sharp and welcoming memories. I loved being part of a community for common good. We learned everything from how to set the table to wrapping gifts, skills I have treasured for a lifetime. Cookie sales were not my favorite as I was basically shy about knocking on doors. Summer camp was my favorite and I hated to go back home. I still have my canteen, mess kit, handbook and pin. I hate to give them to charity but I don’t think there is a market for this memorabilia.
Cecille looks so elegant in her dark blue winter outfit. Kirsten’s winter story outfit is one of my favorites although she never gets to wear it in the sunny south. She might need it this weekend as we have a miserable weather prediction though mostly rain. Hubby already cancelled our birthday lunch with our children on Sunday as we would have to drive an hour to the northeast. He says we can reschedule the next weekend but that one looks wintery as well. This is when I really miss Louisiana winters.
Jeanne I hope that coughing stops. I agree with Rosemary, unchecked coughing can cause broken blood vessels and broken ribs. Praying for healing.
Debbie, your scouting experiences sound a lot like mine, although mine were in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. I too loved camp, and learned a lot of things in GS that I still use today. I remember selling a couple of boxes to a really old lady up the street, who was kind of creepy, since she had a doll sitting on her couch and had no children! Imagine an old lady with a doll!🙂. I have turned into my own nightmare!🤣. Anyway, when it came time to deliver the cookies, she only had a $5 dollar bill and I had no change, so she told me to take that and to bring back the change when I got it. Can you believe that I forgot?? I don’t think she is around anymore, but I still feel bad about it!
Yes, it feels bad when we can’t put some of the clothes we have for our dolls on because it is too hot/ cold. I can’t bear to see them shivering in this weather, so it is warm things and woolens for now! Thank you for the compliments!
Dear Jeanne, I am glad to hear that you are better. It’s great to be able to watch interesting and educational shows on TV. I like to watch Beat Bobby Flay and you know I don’t cook (laugh).
I have a friend who subscribes to Acorn TV, which airs British TV shows. She especially likes the detective ones.
Glad to hear you are feeling better, Jeanne.
How wonderfully dressed your girls are as usual, Linda. I was a Brownie in second grade since my mom didn’t work that year. Then I didn’t get a chance to be in Girl Scouts until fifth through seventh grade when I could go home with one of two friends and be picked up after work.
I remember selling cookies for $1 a box. We always bought one box of Thin Mints and sometimes a box of Do-si-dos.
I love seeing all the beautiful clothing. My daughter has Kirsten’s whole winter set and I have the skirt and blouse which I use with her red boots. Oh, and Coconut and TQT orange kitty.
Thank you, Laura! I too, love Kirsten’s winter outfit, I actually bought that years ago for Molly! I just bought the clothes I loved from AG, and only had Molly at the time. I’m so glad I got that when prices were more reasonable on EBay, and much easier to find. I do have her red boots, but these have fur and ribbon trim around the collar that coordinate with her hair ribbons, so I use those instead. After looking at the picture of her again, I see that I did not change her ribbons in her braids! Always something!
My daughter was also I. Second grade as a Brownie and I was the leader in her troop. Since you and Jennifer are around d the same age, I guess cookies did cost $1.00 a box! I don’t think the boxes got bigger, but the price sure has!!
I wish my flowers looked as pretty today as they did on Christmas Day!. They are all dripping wet and very bedraggled. The rain has been terrible all over the country and, unfortunately, deadly. Two people are missing when a land slide came down onto their house, one man is still missing after 3 days when he tried to cross a ‘stream’ in his car, and several people are unaccounted for in Mt Maunganui when a land slip came down on a campsite burying caravans and a toilet block. Roads all over the North Island have been closed by slips and some will take months to clear. One road closure means a detour of 211 Kms! What is a few drowned plants after all that? It isn’t even all over. The tropical storms are but now there is another one coming from the West which will cover the country from tomorrow. The ground is so wet and sodden that even normal rain could cause more slips and this isn’t going to be normal rain. Lots of flooding as well. I guess my house insurance will go up again.
Jeanne I am so glad you are feeling slightly better. The Sewing Bee is wonderful, those early episodes I often used to think ‘I would love to do that’. Not any more, the standard just gets higher and higher and most of the challenges are beyond me now and have been for some time. But the sewers always stand up and make a great job. When it first came out in NZ it was on Sky TV which is pay tv. We had Sky so I was able to watch it but the audience was a bit limited. It went off the air for a few years but eventually they started it up again and suddenly everyone wanted it. It came here, albeit a year behind, and this time it was on TV One so free to air and really took off. I watched the 2025 series in UK but didn’t get to see the final and it hasn’t reached here yet. They used to film it in London but I think it got too expensive and they have moved to an old woolen mill near Leeds in Yorkshire (where I was staying last year).
Linda I love your dolls all dressed up for winter and your Girl Scouts (here they are called Guides) look wonderful. Sam wasn’t interested in the Girl Guides she always wanted to be a Scout but wasn’t allowed in those days. They opened it up to the girls when she was about 18, too old to join.
I did hear about the big freeze that is coming your way. stay warm everyone and have a great day
Thank you, Anne! My goodness, what a mess there for you with all the rain! It seems like anywhere you go on this earth, somebody is having a terrible time with the weather!
Yes, I was aware that the Girl Scouts there are called Girl Guides. Do they have Brownies too? Those are for the smaller girls.
I certainly hope that things settle down there and the flooding recedes soon. And no more floods!
Sorry about the heavy rain. Hopefully, your lovely garden will recover. We haven’t had rain for about a month and this is usually the most rainy part of the year. So, the drought word has been surfacing. Yikes, I hope not.
Jeanne, I forgot to mention that Stuart Hilliard who was in the first series of Sewing Bee, was at the Festival of Quilts where I went, if you remember, when I was in UK. I bought a book from him which he signed for me. He also has a YouTube channel. I haven’t seen it for a while so must look it up again.
