Hi everyone,
I wanted to get to your comments today…really I did, but it didn’t happen. I’ll try again another day!
I also found some pictures from Elizabeth and somehow missed sharing them. I will show them Monday or Tuesday… depending if I get Rebecca’s dress listed.
I’m SO thrilled that the new button was liked by everyone and the bonnet too! Boy, I was cutting it close on that bonnet fabric, but thankfully, I had “just enough” to make that ruffle around the edge. The crinoline is boned at the bottom edge so it really holds the dress out. I should have taken a picture of Rebecca laying down so you could see how it looks.
Marilyn asked if I could show Rebecca with her hair down, for those who don’t want to do anything fancy. (although, what I did in putting her hair up was FAR from anything fancy.) You’ll see some pictures today where I let Rebecca’s hair down and curled it. It DOES look very pretty down! Thank you for suggesting it, Marilyn!
So let’s see, what did I do today? OH… yes, I made a little purse for this set. I looked at a few of my booklets to see what the style of purses were back in the 1860’s. I found a few pictures and then on one of the pages I saw this: “Most purses were made from velvet, leather or crocheted.” Well, I know a thing or two about leather, so I looked to see if I could find something “dainty.” Not exactly what you usually think of when talking about leather, but, remember that really soft and thin leather I won from an auction by Dianna Effner’s daughters? Well, I found a piece of very soft red leather and decided to give it a try. I have a little purse pattern I drafted quite a while ago and have made it several times, but never from leather. It was SO soft, I had to stitch it almost in slow motion, being careful not to tear the holes I had punched. I noticed many of the purses in the 1860’s had chains for the straps… so I used a piece of gold chain and then found a gold filigree piece to use on the front. Then I added some beads on the bottom edge to pick up the blue.
I don’t know why this picture turned out to be so orangish brown, but it’s not the right color and I can’t get it fixed in Picasa.
I mainly wanted to show you the style of the purse. Here is the purse with the flap up… It opens up and can have a little hankie in there if you want. I had to add a nickle inside the fabric cut out, and glue it down, to keep the flap on the purse from flipping up. The nickel gives the purse a little weight and makes it hang better.
The leather was too thin to add one of my magnet closures, so I used some ultra thin Velcro. It’s just enough to keep the flap closed.
Now, the pictures you’ll see look REALLY RED, and while it is red, it does go very well with the burgundy-colored bonnet and piping. I would never put anything together that didn’t match or at least compliment everything else in the set. So I guess it will be a matter of trusting me on this. Some of the close-up pictures show the color pretty well.
I took some pictures outside again today… hope you like them.
It was slightly cloudy outside today, so my pictures didn’t look washed out like some of the previous ones.
I think Rebecca looks like she’s enjoying showing you this dress set.
A stop by the fountain was in order…
I was really hoping to get this set listed on Ebay tonight, but my hubby had some other plans for me. I’ve got my pictures all ready and hope to get it listed Friday evening. I have different pictures for the listing… I don’t think any of the ones I showed you today will be in the listing. I hope you’ll keep an eye out for it.
I will see you Monday,
Have a wonderful weekend,
Blessings, Jeanne

I liked seeing the back view of the hat with Rebecca’s hair down; it looks really nice. For some reason, I didn’t notice the bow in the previous pictures (although when I go back and look, I see it just fine now!), so this picture really showcases the bow, I think.
The little red purse is really cute, and the perfect accessory. In some of your pictures it does look really “RED”, but in others, it looks much closer to the burgundy, although perhaps a shade brighter. I would call that a “blend”. Not quite exactly the same but close enough to blend with the rest of the outfit. (And, frankly, sometimes too much “matchy matchy” can look boring!)
You’ve done a great job on this one, Jeanne, and I suspect the auction will be something to watch!!
Oh, Jeanne, the little purse is so lovely, as well as all of it. Her hair is beautiful, too. We are off to the Y, then to the Optical store, Peyton sat on his glasses and, well, you can imagine. Thank goodness he has an older pair that works well enough. Then we go to the grocery and home to continue trying to get the house looking better. My sewing room ends up with the stuff from the guest room. Still work to do!!
Will check with Y’all later!
What a sweet little purse, Jeanne! I see a piece of the material you have left on the inside, and that pulls it all together!
Well, my monitor shows about 4 different colors for that purse! The 5th picture down, however, shows it to be a perfect match for the burgundy of the dress! Then the picture next to that shows it in fire engine red! Go figure!
I love the way Rebeccaβs curls show in the back and how the hat fits on her! That little hat will look good on just any type of hairdo, I think!
What a beautiful outfit this has turned out to be!
I think she turned out very well! I love her hat, and I like how the red ribbon on her dress matches her purse. Her purse reminds me of Josefina’s. Great job!
Another masterpiece, hand made by Jeanne!
Perfect photos. Rebecca is a beautiful doll. This whole ensemble suits her.
This outfit is a real treasure. I bet Rebecca could put a dime into that little purse!
I hope everyone enjoys this week-end. I hope the weather is cooler and drier that what you have had. Here in Northern Virginia, we have had dramatic cooling. The skies are gray but it looks like sunshine will reappear later. I just wish the mosquitoes would pack their dirty proboscis’s and leave.
Oh, the purse is so cute. Love it and the lining too. π The pics are wonderful in the yard. Such a beautiful setting. Rebecca is not going to want to give this one up for sure.
Well, this morning we have smoke and a ton of it. After the heatwave the last few days, a fire started late yesterday over in Napa County. They couldn’t get it out so brought in night helicopters to drop water, and now there is so much smoke, not sure how they will proceed. There were some evacuations as well. So, house is closed up not for the heat, but for the down to the ground smoke. We’re hoping for some control today, and the wind is supposed to change direction later. So that will help. Of course, those in the Sacramento Valley won’t like it if the smoke heads there. So, it’s a wait and see how it goes. The temperature should be down from miserable yesterday to maybe 91 today. Guess we’ll find out.
We’re low on cat food and my eye appointment is this morning, so we’ll be busy. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. π
Dear Jeanne, I love the ensemble. She looks like she is ready for an after dinner stroll or maybe she will walk to a friend’s house to have sweet tea and cake. Wherever she goes, she will definitely turn heads.
What a beautiful ensemble. I love the way you did the back of the hat. The hat is so adorable and goes perfectly with the dress. This outfit is a for sure winner. The color of the purse is different in some pictures but all-in-all I think it works perfectly with the dress. whatever color it really is.
What a sweet dress set this turned out to be. The little purse is the perfect accessory. Love the bit of matching fabric on the inside.
Well, this Civil War outfit went way too fast. I vote another Civil War one should follow. Anyone else with me? π
Love the finished Civil War ensemble! The bow on the back of the bonnet is a nice touch for a young lady. I would have a hard time parting with this outfit if I had made it! I have some outfits that I’ve made for the Ruby Red dolls, thinking I may try to sell them for a little extra income….but then I see the doll on my shelf posed in her new outfit and it brings me joy and a smile on my face! Sometimes I will cut out two of the same outfit so if I am fond of it, one set can stay with me! Eventually, my daughters will make the decision on how to divide my dolls and outfits and some might go to Great-granddaughter’s! One of my granddaughter’s just had a baby girl this past Sept., and another granddaughter is expecting a baby girl this December!
Currently, I am sewing like crazy to complete the wardrobe to go into the closet I made for the Siblie doll, for her 10th Birthday coming up in Sept! Plus I made a bed which still needs the mattress and the bedding. I enjoy making shoes to go with outfits too and just finished a pair of flip-flops last night, to go with a beach top and capris. Finished the tiny panda-print long nightgown and made a pair of fluffy “Panda” slippers to go with it! My daughter shared a photo of my granddaughter on her first day of school and the navy blue skirt she is wearing is like the little denim skirt I made for the Siblie! So I am making a white blouse, white knee socks, black t-strap shoes and a brown school bag to go with it so it nearly matches my granddaughters outfit! Made a pair of black thin-fake-leather shoes the other day and know now what I need to do to make them sturdier. I altered a Siblie shoe pattern and also needed to trace the doll’s foot WITH her socks on, so the shoes will fit over socks.
Jeanne….I am so glad my Ruby Red dress photos went thru to you and thank you ahead of time if you share them with the sofa sisters. I plan to take photos of the Siblie doll in each outfit when I’m done and can try to send photos to you if you wanted to share them, down the road. I will want to have the photos on hand so if I decide to make more clothes for this size of a doll, I can use them for reference. I only have this one Siblie (the Birthday gift doll!) and now I think I may want to purchase another one in the future since I have several patterns to use for her. The small size clothes and shoes are a challenge to work with!
I would love to see your Siblie photos. Sounds like am amazing wardrobe. π
