Hi everyone,
JUST A REMINDER: My Little Darling outfit, “October Charm,” ends this evening on Ebay. If you haven’t seen it yet, please click the picture at the right side bar or click HERE to be taken to the auction!
Remember when I made this sweet little pink floral dress for a little girl’s 1st birthday?
I made it a 24 months size and thought she’d probably have to wait to wait until next Spring to wear it. Last Sunday, her mom stopped by my seat at church and said, “Look, Miss Jeanne!” And Ruah was wearing her dress… it was a bit big, but her mom didn’t want to wait any longer… she was a bit squirmy, but I snapped these 2 pictures of them… Awwwww… it made my heart smile! :o)
I didn’t have any time to mess with that jacket collar and lapel this weekend, but Elizabeth added the directions on how to use Google Translate from your phone and change any language into English. That may have been the way my friend, Sayaka, did it, as it’s SO quick, but thought you might want to give it a try and do it yourself. I’m always watching “leather shoe making videos” on my computer and many of them are in Russian. Sometimes they put simple instructions at the bottom of the screen… maybe I could freeze my screen, take a picture and try it. I’m very much a “hands-on learner” so I can pretty much tell what they are doing by just watching the video. But when the instructions are just written out like this Blythe pattern was, it might come in handy.
Here are Elizabeth’s directions…

Hi Jeanne and Sofa Sisters!
My Daughter explained how to use the Google translate on my cell phone!
1. If you don’t already have the Google App on your phone, then go to Google App store and set up a Google (Chrome) account so you can access Google-Translate.
2. Click on the Chrome app icon on your phone and type in the search bar: translate to English. Where it says to enter the text (to be translated), click on the little square icon with a dot in the center, that is located next to a microphone icon in the lower right-hand corner (of that text field). Clicking on the square icon will switch you over to your phone’s camera.
3. Hold your camera phone over the paper printed with the different language and in about 2 seconds, it translates to English, word for word.
I tried this on your post where you had photographed the Japanese instructions and they were translated to English right away! Until my daughter had told me about this feature, I did not know our phones had this capability! I told my daughter….this feels like a “Mission Impossible” task and so into the “future”!!
Feeling like an elder…but willing to learn new tricks!!
If you try it, let us know how you did!
I’m sorry, but this will have to be it for me today… my hubby is having another surgery this week and we have many things to do to get ready for it. I’d appreciate your prayers and I’ll try to post something each day as I can.
Blessings, Jeanne
See you tomorrow

Oh, yes, I remember that beautiful dress! So nice to see Ruah wearing it now!! It’s gorgeous, and little Ruah looks so beautiful in it!
How nice of Elizabeth’s daughter to share those instructions. I’m sure it will help several of us out! I don’t have that kind of phone, but I do have Google on my laptop, and it translates most things for me just fine.
I’m sorry to hear that George will be needing another surgery. Will be keeping you both in prayer.
Oh yes, Jeanne, I remember that beautiful little dress, and Ruah is the perfect little girl to wear it, with her dark skin and eyes! The colors just pop, and little Ruah looks like a little flower herself! With her pretty little face and curly hair, she looks like a little doll!
Well, sit down everyone, because I have to admit that I don’t have a cell phone! I have no desire to carry one around with me everywhere, and to be checking it constantly! I do fine with 3 landline’s, an iPad and desktop computer. Oh wait, we do have a cellphone, but it is only for emergencies, and if we actually had an emergency, I don’t think I would be able to use it!🤣 But I can translate foreign languages by highlighting the sentences to be translated, then clicking onto “translate”, and viola, there it is!
I will be praying for a successful surgery for George. You can count on me for that! Don’t worry about the blog if it turns out you have no time. If anyone understands, it will be us, here on the sofa!❤️
I’ve had a cell phone for years. I got it when they first came out (it was a bag phone) so I would have something in my car for emergencies because there were long stretches of road with nothing when we first moved out here. That has changed as has my cell phone but I drive my family crazy because it and I are not joined at the hip. Half the time I have no clue where it is (often it’s on the charger and I forgot). I just don’t feel the need for constant contact and if the kids need to contact us, they can always call David because he has to keep his handy for business calls.
Well, I have a cell phone, but it’s like I don’t. I often forget to charge it as it remains in my purse. I do use it to read mail and look at Facebook though, when away from home or waiting for an eye appointment. It is nice to have peace of mind on trips too. Although, making a call is tricky for me. I know, duh!
Praying for George to have an easy successful surgery. I hope this is an easy week for both of you so he can recover comfortably.
Ruah looks adorable in this dress you made. Absolutely precious.
I knew about google translate but gosh I forgot it will translate written text.
That is really…… incredible.
Have a lovely cozy Monday everyone.
I am going to sew all day and get chores done
Dear Jeanne, we will all be praying for George here on the sofa.
Ruah looks adorable in the dress you made for her.
Can you believe that there are only 2 weeks left in October?
There are 193 days until May. I think that May should be two months long. Maybe we can merge April and May, we can call it “Maypril” or something. That sure would make me happy (laugh).
Maypril! Hilarious! I love it! My two favorite months when I lived in PA. Well except for September and October. By the way I had some sad news at church yesterday. Well sad for me. One of the women in choir with me will be gone for two weeks. She and her hubby are going to PA (or should I say coming since you are already there) – and they didn’t even invite me along. I suggested going along as their tour guide but she just laughed. They will be in the Philly area doing all the historic things like Independence Mall and the Liberty Bell, then to Valley Forge. I think they’ve already been to Gettysburg. They will also be going to the Wilmington, DE, area (where I also lived for a few years) to take in historic Brandywine and visit the location of the first DuPont mills. And best of all the Bethlehem newspaper said, the leaves are at their peak. What a great time for them to go. How sad that I have to stay behind.
Dear Barbara, I am sure that with more advance notice, you could have been a stowaway in their vehicle (smile).
I am happy that your friends are going to the Brandywine Museum. I hope they get to see the Andrew Wyeth paintings. His artwork inspired one of my plays. He was an amazing artist.
Love Maypril. Great idea! 🙂
Dear Joy, thanks! These ideas just pop into my head. I really do love May though.
How nice of Ruah’s mom to bring her by your seat for a view. The dress is quite adorable on her. Mom looks so proud too. 🙂
Don’t worry about us Jeanne. Take care of George and yourself too.
Here, we’ve had some more too hot to paint weather, but once the shade appears late in the day, some work was completed on that crazy deck. Other person removed one of the rotting boards, and then, I cleaned out the hole in the beam caused by water damage. I used Bondo for wood and filled it after a day of drying out and the use of my hairdryer. 🙂 Took two applications to fill, so two times of clean up with laquer thinner for tools and mixing pan. Ugh. So today, it will be some sanding, and then we’ll be ready to install the new deck board. The wait time gave me some pause to get back to pulling the weeds that have appeared after the rain. Lots more to do as I’ve been lax with all of the deck work. And other person has discovered a new deck tool that can drive a screw at an angle so we won’t have to remove all of the railing sections to replace those that have failed. So, we’ll be off to Home Depot to pick one up today. Then, back to more railing work. 🙂 Not much sewing going on here though.
I’ve also been doing more cat herding. Poor Charlotte, from next door appears to be being bullied by Callie Cat and now the cat Pursey, from across the street. Yesterday, I found Pursey chasing Callie Cat. But, I managed to scare him away from Callie. He then ran across the front lawn, across the street, and home. He’s very fast! We’re keeping an eye on Charlotte, who is an elder kitty. 🙂
Joy, with all you have to do with kitties, the deck, and your weeds I don’t know how you can keep up with your dolls!
Oh, Jeanne, I am so sorry about George, just praying that it will cause him to be much better after the surgery. Loved seeing the sweet Ruah in that pink dress. Thank you for sharing, and don’t worry about us. We can chit chat without your worrying to entertain us. Sending prayers and love.
Ruah looks so sweet in the dress you made for her, Jeanne.
Thank you for the translation directions, Elizabeth. I copy and paste them into Google translate on my laptop or just right click my mouse and scroll to “translate to English”, but this would certainly be helpful as well/
Now I do have a cell phone, but to me it is more for the camera to share photos and for emergencies.
I had one briefly for vacation in 2004 and then not again until 2022 when we got rid of the landline, however unlike other family members (NOT including my mom) it is not surgically attached to my hip/hand. I never take it when I’m going around town, only if I’m driving a distance.
I’m sorry to hear George needs another surgery. Prayers for a quick recovery.
Ruah is such a lovely little girl. Truly a doll. And her dress and hair bow just add to her beauty. I know her mom is over the moon proud. You can see it all over her face. How thoughtful of her to thank you in such a nice way.
I will be praying for you and George that his surgery is successful and his recovery quick and complete.
