HI everyone,
How can it be Friday again… it just WAS Friday!! Oh well, I’m glad it is. I was hoping to go to the 100 mile Yard Sale down in Missouri, but my hubby said we can’t this year. Boohoo! Oh well, I think I’ll clean house until it’s time to go to the Food Pantry.
I was looking on Etsy the other night and saw some blue-with-silver-sparkles leather… This is the one I saw…and liked it. I think it would make such pretty little girl shoes!
Blue silver sparkle suede leather
I had bought from this Etsy seller before and she sent me some little samples as a free gift… a few about 1 1/2″ x 5″.
I remembered a sample she had sent me that was black suede with silver speckled and sparkly flecks like the blue one so I wondered if I could cut out a pair of shoes for Ten Ping or Bailey. I had just enough to cut out some shoes for Ten Ping and went for it.
It turns out that blue leather I just showed you is a different kind of leather than the one I had the sample of… the one I had was suede on the backside. I messaged the seller and asked if she knew if the black suede type could be wet-molded and hold its shape. She said she didn’t think so, but she welcomed me to try and then let her know. So, I decided to go for it.
It did hold its shape after wet-molding it and so I proceeded with making Ten Pings new shoes… (wet-molding means to shape the leather around a mold or some shape to make it conform to the dolls foot. In my case, I wanted it to stay raised up over the vamp part of the shoes, and give her toes room to “wiggle!”) :o)
I know they are a bit “Holiday-ish” but it’s the only color I had, so I just tried it anyway…
Ten Ping likes them and doesn’t understand about “Seasons” right now. I’ll explain it to her… They need a few tweaks, but I liked the idea of the elastic cording to hold them on and then I added a silver button to hold the cord in place.
Okay, now for something completely different.
I enlarged the tote bag I made for the Beach Buds set by 20% and wanted to see what size it would turn out to be. I used some Batik fabrics and made another one and it turned out so cute, I decided we’d have a GIVEAWAY! It’s been quite a while since we had one, and this will be fun! It works for the Ruby Red Fashion Friends AND I tried it with the Dianna Effner Little Darlings and Natasha said it was good for her too! So here are some pictures, and if you want to be added to the drawing to try and win it, just tell me which doll at your house wants it! You can enter to win it until midnight Friday night and I’ll do my best to get the winner’s name posted Saturday morning.
(Sorry, neither of my girls had anything to wear… so they are covered up with some fleece…)
Okay, now if you have someone clamoring for the tote, let me know and I’ll put your name in the drawing!
Thanks everyone and have a wonderful weekend.
Blessings, Jeanne

I’m sorry you’re going to miss that huge yard sale this year, Jeanne. I know how much you enjoy going around and looking at things.
Oh, wow, sparkle leather for shoes! I spotted several other colors in various sparkly or iridescent colors, including PINK, but we won’t tell Gigi that, because she would want shoes that are pink and sparkly, I’m quite sure! 😂 It’s going to be hard enough to keep her from seeing the sparkly black shoes!
That tote bag is very pretty, and Frieda thinks it would go very well with the pretty sweater she got from Aunt Anne, via Aunt Jeanne’s blog! A girl always needs a roomy tote bag, right?!
Update on Nolan’s t-shirt: I finally got some time in the sewing room tonight, after several busy days at our church with the traveling evangelist and his wife. So what I did was I pin-basted the side and sleeve seams, and then tried it on him. I think it will work just fine! The sleeves were supposed to be long, but they’re more like 3/4, but that’s okay–I will cut the sleeves short, which is what I wanted in the first place.
Can’t wait to see a pic of Nolan’s shirt which will be perfect for those warm days in Washington. 🙂
Jeanne, I think it will be on the wet side this weekend in Missouri, not all day, but enough to dampen things for the big hard sales. Maybe it is a good thing to not go this time, even though I know you so enjoy them. Rain will be a hit and miss thing over the holiday, so I’m glad we got the hard cut yesterday.
Oh,, those sparkly snowed are just darling and Ten Ping looks so cute wearing them! And you say holidays would be the best for them, but what about Halloween too? What a cute little witch she would make!
I had to laugh at your comment about your dolls not having anything to wear, and thought of the old saying about the shoe cobbler’s children not having any shoes! You are the o e who makes doll clothes , but your dolls don’t have anything to wear! The tote bag is so cute, a d we have a few girls here who need a little tote bag for their trips to the beach!
Although swimming pools will open this weekend, I’m not sure that too many will be willing to dive into the cold water in these cooler days!
Yesterday was too much going so I had to read yesterday’s Y’all today. Jeanne, I love the books, and they look like some I had read to me long ago. I had my mom, her mom and her aunt reading to me all the time. I could read by the time I started school.
The Beach Buds are so cute together, great idea!
Marilyn, I am so glad your sister sent the photos to you and you had Jeanne share them with us. My Mom took me on a trip to Ireland in 1997 and I remember climbing to the top of the Blarney Castle and met a guy from Georgia at the top! Small world. The photos you sent are so lovely and brought such good memories to me.
Today we go to a funeral at our church and then I hope to get some more Kish dolls listed on FB. It is so hard to pay for a house when things start going bad. Ours was built in 2000, and it is acting like a very old lady. The house we built in FL after 25 years was still in great condition. They don’t make things as well any more.
I hope Sam and George and getting better every day.
Y’all have a great day and weekend, and send us some rain, please!!
Bonjour. Georgina.
Georgina, my Sarah pouted when I told her the same thing. I will have to make her one I think
Hi Georgina, I’m so sorry some of your girls cried!!! Makes me want to cry!
Blessings, Jeanne
Georgina.
Jeanne, these shoes are really cute. Very fancy. Always appropriate for church on Sunday, so not really having to wait until Fall mainly because they are sparkly!!
The tote bag is very pretty. Thank you for sharing the pattern Jeanne. I already cut out the pieces for one bag.
This batik fabric is an elegant choice.
I also can not believe it is Friday again. How is this happening? If days continue to fly like this, I will be 80 “next week”!!! Today I am going to try to be peppy and productive.
Yesterday I put in ONE closet maid shelf in a closet near the garage door. It is supposed to be a coat closet I think, but we have a coat closet around the corner. I do not know why it took me so long to put in one shelf. Oh, maybe because I got distracted a few times and also made some banana bread too.
I want to install two more shelves in this closet and use it for all of our “tools” flashlights, light bulbs, saws, everything like that.
Yesterday it rained all day. We are in a serious drought in Northern Virginia so this is okay. Today is supposed to be dark and chilly. It IS dark and chilly right now.
Have we talked about dinner prep? What do you prepare for dinner?
Do you eat meat potatoes and vegetables?
The past few years, I cook various things and freeze, I even bake baby potatoes and sweet potatoes and freeze them. I buy a lot of fresh prepared food, for example Winchester Farms – mainly the stuffed chicken breasts: Broccoli and cheese, asparagus and cheddar, spinach and artichoke, and cordon bleu (ham and Swiss). I slice them up before I bake so they make smaller portions.
I freeze them. Other stuff I make is usually hard boiled eggs, or canned salmon- Wild Planet brand.
I try to eat more vegetables and salad.
I am not a big eater, but sometimes I snack too much. Hubbs will eat anything I put in front of him. I premake 4 sandwiches every four days so he can just grab one for lunch. I do this mainly because of his glaucoma. It just saves me a lot of enthusiastic messiness.
I need to make a list of things I want to accomplish today.
I hope all of you have a sweet Friday today, and a nice week-end.
I try not to think too much about what’s for dinner and because of this I tend to forget to take something out of the freezer. I’ve never been a cook just was concerned with nutritious meals when the kids were growing up but they were simple meals. I’d rather be sewing. Cooking and cleaning up takes too much time away from that. Thankfully David is not a picky eater and likes common fare. One time I made a wonderful sauce for fresh asparagus. He told me that the next time I made asparagus please leave the sauce off his. I think because of him not liking “different” things, I’ve stayed away from recipes which works for me. These days I’m having trouble standing long enough to cook anything. Last night I made tuna fish salad and wasn’t sure I could finish it without taking a break. I start PT next week and hopefully that will help with some of this. Standing not cooking I mean.
Get ready for your drought to end. We had a red dot storm in our tiny town around 10 pm last night. There was a lighting strike right outside of our bedroom. I saw the flash and heard the sizzle when it hit the floor. There is no obvious sign this happened but the neighbors had damage to their electronics.
You are very organized with meal prep. I fall on the side of enthusiastic messiness three times a day. The results are tasty but I have no time for anything else. Something must change!
Well, here it is Friday, and we’ll have a long weekend ahead. I was amazed at how crowded it was at Costco, yesterday. Packed with people stocking up for the big three day weekend I guess. We came home with hot dogs, an apple pie, a tri-tip, and a chicken as well as a few other things. I know Rosemary, mentioned what all she cooks, but since I’m trying not to become any larger, a big dinner is out usually. I rarely cook anything much. But, we do plan to BBQ for Memorial Day, Monday. I went on a cleaning frenzy yesterday afternoon and did the bathrooms, kitchen, and the rest with some vacuuming help from other person. No weeding accomplished yesterday at all. After a tap on the door from little Winnie dog next door who received her milk bone and a new squeaky toy, a seagull, we ended up having apple pie with Tillamook French vanilla ice cream for dinner. Go figure.
The tiny shoes are sweet and the matching stretchy cord looks great. I always wonder if it is possible to leave less of the sole showing beyond the stitching? It appears to stick out so much. But, because the shoes are so tiny, it probably isn’t possible. Anyway, will there be a little dress to go with them for summer? A little short black sundress or a pair of black shorts and a silver top maybe? Unless little Ten, gets to wear them until fall. They are so cute.
As to the absolutely wonderful tote bag giveaway, I too, would probably have to have a drawing to decide which Ruby Red here would receive it, if I were to have my name drawn. I picture the bag filled with books to read while lounging in a hammock or stretched out on a beach towel watching the waves come and go.
Today, we are headed to the cemetery to put out the flowers we picked up yesterday. Then, Monday, we will walk down again and see the flags and listen to the Memorial Day program.
Thanks for doing the drawing, Jeanne. And have a nice weekend everyone.
yum, apple pie and ice cream. aaaahhhhh.
I agree on largeness prevention, Joy. I fit in my clothes comfortably right now. I hate tight clothes.
I make my hubbs regular dinner when possible, just by making three choices out of the freezer, or creating something easy. I do get ground meat and cook it all up and freeze it.
I am not too creative.
For myself, lunch and dinner are variable. Sometimes I just have yogurt and some banana bread haha other times, a ham and cheese sandwich.
We rarely eat out for dinner or lunch, when we do, we have so much food or take home half the meal.
We are not big eaters. when we are at gatherings, hubbs and I seem to eat the least.
I know both of you will have a lovely week-end.
You are amazing to do all of that cooking. Here, not my idea of fun so only make things on occasion since we can pick up whatever we want and pull it out of the freezer. Hope that you have great weather this weekend.
Your dinner sounds good to me. What’s not to like about apple pie and ice cream. I remember reading in the Sunday comics once where Dennis the Menace heard that pie and ice cream was called a la mode so he asked his mother if they could have a la mode for supper. She said sure. When a pot roast and vegetables showed up on the table he wanted to know where the a la mode was. His mother told him that also meant meat with vegetables.
I was going to have the family out for a BBQ dinner on Monday and take the grandkids to the new splash pad in town. Azure is 5 and would love it and Skyy and Jaiden would have fun doing it with him since it’s a pretty big splash pad (would have preferred they kept the pool). But they keep saying Monday is going to be a washout since we are supposed to have rain all day. The predictions for here have been so off lately it probably won’t rain a drop so I’ll spend the day sewing instead.
Fun Dennis memory. Sorry you are getting rain for the three day. Here, no more heat and much cooler weather. Going back to wearing a jacket again tomorrow. Have a nice weekend.
Hi Joy,
It bugs me too when the sole of the shoes stick out farther than I like. I molded the leather around her foot and punched my holes right next to her foot, but I think the suede sort of stretched and got wider. I tried to cut it off close but it was thick to cut and I was afraid I was going to snip into the stitching. I tried sanding it down closer to the stitching, but it sort of frayed the suede and made it messy looking next to the veg tan leather soles. I’m going to try the sparkle leather with the regular grain leather back next time… and see if I can make then a little more narrow.. I’ve seen people use a grinder, and my hubby has bone, but the shoes are so small, I’m concerned they might fly out of my fingers and who knows where they would end up in the garage. EEK! I’ll try again and try harder…
I’m sorry you can’t go to that huge yard sale this year.
What sweet sparkly shoes. They look perfect for New Year’s Eve to me.
Such a sweet little tote bag. Any of my four Rubies would be happy to have it, by Marsaili thinks it would look best with her red hair.
Tomorrow is my birthday! Yes, another May baby here. Hopefully we will get a day of sun. The peonies are in full bloom.
Have a wonderful birthday, Laura!!!!
Thank you so much, Barbara!
Hope your birthday shines and you can enjoy doing your favorites. I’m sure that the kitties will all behave. 🙂
Thank you so much, Joy! Yes, the kitties will have their own treats and a new toy as well.
Happy Birthday Laura! Peonies sound lovely to accompany your birthday.
Thank you so much, Debbie! Some years I do get peonies for my birthday and some years they haven’t bloomed yet.
Have a great birthday, Laura, and many more happy days!
Thank you so much, Sissy!
Happy. Birthday, Laura! May you have a wonderful and fun day!
Thank you so much, Linda!
Happy birthday Laura, I guess it is today here (23rd?) It is Sam’s birthday on Tuesday, so yet another May birthday.
Thank you so much, Anne! Yes, mine’s the 23rd. Happy Birthday to Sam! How nice you both were born in May.
Happy Birthday, Laura! 🙂
What adorable shoes!! And the tote bag is lovely. Naomi Ruth (Freida) says she would love the tote because it would go so well with the Jeanne Marie swimsuit and skirt I just bought her.
We were promised at least eight days of rain – off and on – but while others in Texas are being deluged, we are not here. We had a front coming from the north and rain bands coming up from Mexico, but most seem to be dissipating before they get here. I saw on the news where Austin got a lot of rain, and they are not that far from us but we have had little to none here. The guys have stayed home from the out-of-town job this week and it seems their job has received rain but they have been able to get some things done around here because we haven’t.
Please do consider adding my name to the tote bag drawing….it is adorable! I can see making a beachwear set to go with it….swimsuit and beach cover-up. Maybe with a rolled-up beach towel, suntan lotion and a beach play-toy of some sort, tucked into the tote! Gotta love accessories!
Good morning all
My cooking skills are almost non-existent. What I cook usually tastes OK but I am not very adventurous. TBH if it takes longer than 1/2 an hour to prepare it is too fussy and I don’t want to know. I try to avoid potatoes and rice so if we need rice I have cauliflower rice instead. Usually though, I have salad with some kind of meat, unless Kai cooks and she is adventurous. Also very messy! I don’t eat dessert even though I love them. In fact almost the only sweet stuff I eat is my banana with my porridge in the morning (no sugar) and one biscuit after my dinner at night.
Sam went to the hospital yesterday and it is all good news. She has one hole in the nail and one in the flesh on the ball of the finger. Even her nail isn’t turning black, not so far anyway. Also the needle went straight through the bone without cracking it. The numbness in the tip of the finger will probably go away with time, so, as I said, all good news.
What wasn’t good news is that the gasfitter didn’t turn up and isn’t answering his phone so my new cooker is sitting on the deck still and Kai will have to find another way to cook the pork tomorrow. She will be very disappointed.
I already said it is Sam’s birthday on Tuesday so she had her hair done (cut) yesterday for her gift from me. I thought it was going to be more like mine but it is not as short as mine. It is very different, it was below her shoulders before.
Have a lovely day everyone, mine will be spent in the sewing room
Sorry your person doing the gas line didn’t show. So disappointing. Hopefully, you can find someone else to do the work. Glad to hear that Sam’s finger should get better with time. Not fun though at all. Hope that you have a wonderful weekend.
I am glad Sam is doing alright! Yay! I’m not very adventurous in cooking either.
Sorry you have to miss out on all the garage sales, Jeanne 🙁 I love garage sales, too. In August they have one here that goes through several states. The shoes are pretty. Avila got new sandals today that are colorful, too 🙂 The tote bag is beautiful. I think it would fit a Wellie Wisher around here. Thank you for the contest! They are fun =)
