A look back at my little girl’s “Boutique” days on Ebay..

Hi everyone,
I am back home and ready to get in my sewing room, but I haven’t had enough time to get anything started, so I thought I’d share with you some of the things I used to make when I first started selling on Ebay. I was intrigued with the denim overalls and skirtalls that were decorated with appliques and trims. Not the appliques that were ready made, but the art of appliquing using fabrics and fusible Wonder Under to create a one of a kind look.

The idea was to get a pair of overalls and make some cute cut outs to put on the bib and around the legs and fuse them, applique and embellish them for a little girls “boutique” looking item. I’ll show you what I mean… “Boutique” was a big category in the little girls fashions. I just checked on Ebay, and it’s not so hot right now… a few look similar to what you’d see back in the day, but not very many.

These next pictures are pulled from my archives back in 2005 and 2006.

This was a pair of overalls I called “Born to Shop!” I used chenille on the bib…

This is a pair of little girls overalls with a bear theme going on…

One of my favorites was “BAA BAA Ballerina!” I pulled out my notebook from 2005 and saw this exact listing…

Here is a lavishly decorated pair of tiny overalls for a young baby girl.

Here is a Ballerina Monkey… I made several of these…

In the beginning, they were selling for $30-$40… but as time went on, they sold for more… I think the Monkey Business pair sold for $99.

I used a coloring book to find this sweet dog outline… I used it on the front of the overalls and added lots of “doggie extras…”

Here was another popular one… “Hula Monkey!…

This was an ABC pair of overalls… the ideas for this was limitless…

My favorite pair was “Monkey Business” and it was quite elaborate…

Another one of my favorites was “Tu Tu Turtle!”

Here is another version of my “Alphabet Overalls!”

Another pair of doggie shortalls…

This pair of shortalls were called “Dragonfly Delight!”

Well, I think that’s enough… these kept me VERY busy back in 2005 and beyond… Boy, I’ve done a LOT of sewing in my life, haven’t I?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Hi all! I’m at home again, and thanks for all the wishes for safe travels. The flight was uneventful, but traffic home was horrendous–pretty much bumper-to-bumper the whole way, and very s-l-o-w! My friend Les (from our IHOP group) picked me up, and I was very grateful. It was nice to catch up on the way home.

I kept my bigger bag downstairs so I could just unload dirty clothes right in the laundry room. I’ve done two loads of wash tonight, and also went to the grocery store. I still have a few things in it that I need to carry upstairs but that can wait until tomorrow.

Wow, you really did do a lot of sewing, Jeanne!! Lots of creative ideas there. I think my favorite was the Baa-baa ballerina one, although the alphabet ones were really cute, too.

Jeanne, I still have to go thru my pictures and load them into my computer, but as soon as I do, I’ll send a few to you for the blog. Did you get the two I sent you the other day? Just June and me together, but I’d had Jerry use my Kindle Fire to take them so I could post them right away.

Dear Charlotte, yeaaa you are home safe and sound! I am so glad you had a lovely time away. Hugs from all of us here, especially Charlotte Noelle.

So glad you are home, Charlotte, I know you would have stayed longer if you could but I know you have lovely memories. I am looking forward to your photos! Get rested up!

Hey, hey, glad you had a nice flight and a ride home as well. Can’t wait to see pics.

So glad to see you back home safe and sound but I’m sure you wish you could bring some of the Michigan weather with you. Or maybe I’m thinking of me wishing I could have brought some of the Michigan weather back with us when we were there in July one year. It was so beautiful and sitting in restaurants in northern Michigan with the windows open and no A/C needed was heavenly. Can’t wait to see your pictures.

Oh, I forgot to mention about the previous blog: I did like that original sunflower outfit you made for Frieda, and now you shared the matching one you made for Ten Ping. It’s darling!! That fabric lends itself to so many possibilities.

Sissy, I’m sorry about all the issues the other day; hope things are going better now!

    1. Charlotte, so glad you are home, I left you a comment below Sissy’s as the first one got “disappeared”
I am learning to be very diligent about selecting all and copying before pushing reply :-/

Good morning, Y’all. I sent another message to the blog yesterday but it went away some how. We did get a good meeting with our sweet lawyer working on a new will. Then we got our new tire, but had to wait an hour at the car place. Then we went to 2 grocery stores to find what we needed. It is a one hour drive from Brunswick to our house, so after we got home and I made dinner it was ready for a rest again. Now today we are waiting for our new freezer. The old one doesn’t freeze any more, but is still cold. We hope to save some of the food. Thank y’all for your concern for our bad day, it made us feel a lot better. Things happen, I don’t know if having it all at once and getting it over with, or having them spread out over time. I just hope things will settle down for a while when we get all this done. Thanks again for your caring hearts.

Jeanne, I loved seeing those fun outfits again. I have marveled at them before and still do. They have given me ideas for doll clothes! I hope you will have time to sew some more soon. So glad you had a great time with your family.
Gotta go start working on the food in the broken freezer.
    Y’all have a good day!

    1. yes, fiddlesticks!!!, I just posted a comment and it disappeared, how annoying.
My comment was for Charlotte, happy home coming Charlotte, so glad you are safe and happily home sweet home. I am sure your adventure was just lovely and the beautiful U.P. which I love so much. I am sure you had the perfect weather too.

Perhaps, if the food in the freezer is still very cold and frozen enough, you can cook up a huge feast and enjoy! But, I do worry about anything thawed out and then refrozen as being a no no. Glad you’re getting a new freezer though, tire replaced, and grocery shopping done. Lots accomplished. Hope you both can do something fun as a reward after all of this. 🙂

Your comment reminded me of a time after a hurricane here. We in Sealy did not get the hurricane but are on the evacuation route for those coming from the coast. It’s irritating enough that they trash our town on their way through with their litter after so many here work to provide food, water, etc., for them but on their return trip they totally decimate our grocery stores. One of the things they buy huge amounts of is fresh meat. They are returning to areas with no power, possibly for days or weeks, and yet they buy fresh meat. Aside from having a huge barbecue event what exactly are they going to do with all that fresh meat? I wonder how much of it actually goes to waste.

  4. Jeanne, these were great outfits. I love them, and you are right, they were probably a huge hit back in 2000’s
My girls were teenagers then! We were always making stuff.
I love the ballerina lamb, and the monkeys!
This week has flown by. How is it Thursday already.
Well, we have a new sink top coming in to the new house (the other had a nick)
Fingers crossed it is a good one.
Then I am going to dismantle shelves in the basement today, those garage basement kind of shelves made of steel frame. I will pick the nicest ones. Hubbs already started bringing over his “extra wheels and tires” and car parts (our dearest hubbies….) So I will get those shelves over. I should check all of the windows here and do some caulking on a few of them as the edges seem kind of dried up. It looks shabby. Anyway, I will probably not go to the new house today so I can indeed focus on packing more stuff. Jeepers, moving is a lot of work. I hope everyone has a calm pleasant day!

Oh my goodness, I looked at the blog around 3:30 this morning, and no one had written yet, so I thought I would wait a bit. Now I see a bunch of comments already!

The overalls are darling, and In thought they were for dolls! They would be cute and I think a lot of people would love to see some of those kinds of things for their dolls! I especially love the idea of the shortalls, so cute for hot summer days when jeans don’t work very well.

And you even decorated the backs! I love the ones with the ballet slippers! They could even go in the front if you didn’t want a monkey!

Glad to hear that Charlotte is back safe and sound! Now we need to hear from Anne.
Rosemary, I don’t even want to think of moving and packing all my stuff! I feel for you! And Sissy, let’s hope your “adventures” are done for the year! We had a washer and stove go out at the same time! Was that ever fun, but we lived and things have quieted down. It happens to all of us sooner or later?

We had our “extra” refrigerator we have in the utility room go out and didn’t notice it for a few days until Sean saw the water on the floor. Thankfully most of our frozen food was in our small chest freezer and not in the one for the fridge. The fridge part just had drinks so there was no problem there. We found a repairman (difficult these days) but it took him two weeks to get the part and put it in. But it was fixed. Then the next week the heating element on our dishwasher went out and we called the same guy. He couldn’t find the part – probably where he could make some money from it – and it seemed he just blew it off entirely. Finally when we figured out he wasn’t coming back, we ordered the part, got it in a day and Sean installed it. It really pays these days to be able to do things yourself.

Dear Jeanne, oh my goodness, the overalls are amazing! You certainly spent tons of time on the details. I am sure that the parents and the children loved the items.

  7. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Well, I answered Rosemary and Linda and they went on the blog and I just looked again and they left. This keeps happening to more than one of us.

I was reading somewhere else about this same problem and the key was hitting reply all in posting. Not a clue if this works or not. I don’t have that option on my computer. Always something it sees.

      1. Linda in St. Louis

Where do you see “Reply All”, Joy? I only have “Reply” in blue type.

Jeanne’s jeans must have been a big hit back then. So cute. I too would love to see something similar made for maybe Meadow Mae, but without quite as much detail. I think they would be big sellers for the doll set.
I actually got in a tiny bit of sewing yesterday. I’m working on a reversible dress for the sew along. We’ll see how it turns out. But, mostly still on those pesky weeds. Our kind neighbor let us fill up her can, which wasn’t full, with the weeds I plunked from the ground yesterday morning. Good thing the pick up isn’t until in the afternoon. So, I filled three big cans at three houses this week. I’m so proud. Ha ha Now, with lots of empty can space, I’ll have no excuse not to get more yard work done. Although, I’d rather be doing more sewing.
Looking forward to hearing more about Anne’s trip. Hope she can check in soon.

  9. Cute jean overalls. I like the bear and dog ones.
Glad to hear you’re home safe and sound, Charlotte.
To avoid losing a long comment I always copy and paste it into an email until I know it goes through. i started doing that after losing a couple.

My choice for posting is Comment in a blue box.

I love the appliqued overalls and shortalls. It must have taken you hours to do just one. My favorites will always be those with a ballerina theme. When Andrea and Sean were little we had a shop in Houston called Chocolate Soup. Their clothes were mainly jumpers with blouses and the jumpers had appliqued designs on them. They also had cute little shortalls and overalls for boys. All the blouses and shirts had piping around the collars and cuffs to match the outfits. One of the woman lawyers I worked with put me onto it. But then I took Andrea and Sean to buy them some things and when I saw the prices, well I would have had to be a lawyer myself to afford them. So I bought patterns and started doing them myself. I also bought a children’s line drawing coloring book (not much detail) and started doing free-arm embroidery. Had a lot of fun with that.

    1. Linda in St. Louis

Barbara, are you kidding me? We also had a shop called Chocolate Soup that did tings like that here in St. Louis. My children were a bit too old for that kind of thing, but one of my friends bought quite a bit there. Yes, it was expensive!

Oh my goodness….I, too, thought at first that the bibbed jeans were previous doll outfits! So adorable! I hope the fashion comes back into style….so often, they do. And it does inspire me to want to try making a similar appliqued outfit for a doll! so many fabrics have images that could be fussy-cut to work with lightweight-denim for dolls, and I have doll patterns for bibbed overalls. My favorites were the ballet appliqued outfits. And my mother used line drawings from a coloring book of simple baby items as patterns, to create an appliqued baby quilt for my youngest daughter when she was a baby! And that daughter is almost 50 years young now!
