A few glances at Mae’s dress set

Hi everyone,
Monday morning my hubby had another surgery, and things went well but we have to wait another 3 months and then his doctor will determine what to do next.
It was a very long day as we had to be at the hospital in St. Louis at 6:45 a.m. We got up at 3:00 a.m. and left just before 4:00 a.m. to allow enough time for early morning traffic, road construction, and hopefully no wrecks.

We are both so tired and I’m going to bed as soon as I can. The drawing for my red sweater was supposed to go until midnight, but I just can’t stay awake that long… so I’ll do it like this: I’ve got the names of the ladies who have entered so far written on little pieces of paper and on my nightstand. Whenever I wake up after midnight, I’ll draw a name and add the winner’s name in here…
(That’s the only way I know to make it fair. I wanted to make sure there were no pre-midnight lurkers coming to enter!)
Congratulations to Theresa in Indiana, and I hope you find the perfect Valentine’s Day outfit to wear under it! Or maybe Fourth of July! I’m drawing a blank right now… do I have your address?

I told you I’d like to show you pictures of Mae in her dress set, but I am too tired to put any effort into it, so I hope you smile with these pictures. It’s the best I could do for this evening.

I hope you can pretend Mae is standing up and waving at you. (She’s not!)

This picture of her shoes is blurry… sorry, I didn’t notice it when I took it… and they aren’t perfect, but they ARE perfectly imperfect! :o)

The Amaryllis sent up a second shoot and this is what it looks like today… It’s starting to open up, so I don’t think this one is going to be very tall.

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Oh, my, you did have a long day today! Can’t say as I blame you for going to bed early!! Praying for a full recovery for George.

Since I’m on the blog late at night, I will have to check tomorrow to see who won the pretty red sweater! Congrats to whoever it is!!

Mae’s outfit is just darling, and I have a hunch this could be one of those bidding wars! Even from the little glimpses you gave us, I can see that it’s a winner. Can’t wait to see the posed pictures, too!!

How fun, to be getting a second blossom on your amaryllis. I can’t remember that I ever had that happen (I’ve only had an amaryllis a couple of times, though).

I am making progress on my Expo twinsie challenge. At the moment, I am working on the jacket for which we bought fabric in 2020, but because of the pandemic and no in-person Expo for two years, we put it on the back burner. We decided that this was going to be The Year to get that done!! So this year will be the two twinsie projects. Tonya emailed me and said her jacket is done now, but I’m really not too far behind her! Then I will cut out my “real” purse, based on the prototype I made a week or so ago. I’ll be sure to take pictures, and send to Jeanne, but it will probably be after Expo is over for that (Expos is 2/26-3/1). Stay tuned!

Looking forward to seeing your jacket when complete and the purse too. Sounds like you are right on track to finish everything.

Looking forward to seeing you finished twinsie outfit and other photos from the Expo.

Jeanne, what a long day for you! You got uo at my normal time, so you can see why I don’t stay up very long in the evening, or do much at all in the evening! We went to the Botanical Garden yesterday, and passed by the hospital where you were, and I was thinking of you. At least you had pretty good weather for driving!

Well, I must say that little Miss Mae is just darling all dressed up! I am anxious to see how she looks with her pretty straw hat on! This is one outfit that I wish I had a doll for! Her shoes aren’t that bad. Don’t you remember when you got some new shoes, and then you also got the first scuff mark on them? It broke my heart, but it happens!

Oh he’s, your amaryllis is blooming again! Mine did that too, although the second blooms weren’t quite as spectacular as the first. Still and all, it will bring a touch of beauty to your windowsill.

I guess sometime today you will fill in that blank to let us know who won that darling sweater!

The first thing I thought of when I saw the shoes was no matter how hard we tried our shoes always got the toes scuffed. I have a great picture of my fourth-grade class. Our teacher had it done because they weren’t doing school pictures back then. We were sitting at our desks and I was in the front row. There I was in my pretty Easter suit but wearing my school shoes scuffed at the toes. Every time I see the picture the first thing I see is my scuffed-toed shoes.

When I got my White loafers I had to dirty them up before wearing them. That was the style in the 50’s, LOL!

Dear Jeanne, I hope George will feel better soon. I know it is hard for both of you for him to have these surgeries. Prayers continue.

Oh that Mae outfit! I think I will have to try for it for my Mae’s Easter outfit, although it will probably go beyond my $.

I hope you had a good night’s sleep and are feeling as good as a new blooming amaryllis!!

We have bought a treadmill and it will have to go upstairs in my sewing room, so I have a lot of moving around to do. The room is large enough once I put all my boxes of stuff off the floor. We have good neighbors and will get help to get it up there and ready.

    1. Joy in northern CA

Glad to hear that you will have help with the treadmill. From experience, they are heavy. 🙂

I have an elliptical in my study and it is more than in the way. I prefer my rowing machine which is in the laundry room and fits perfectly so I barely notice it’s there. I really need to sell the elliptical but can’t seem to get around to taking pictures to do that. Maybe it’s not in the way as much as I thought. Well yes it is just not enough to motivate me to so what it takes to get rid of it.

      1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

I think I would prefer a rowing machine, Barbara, it would feel like I was on the water!

  4. Theresa in Indiana

Yay! After pink, red is my favorite color! I have several RRFFs, so just to make it fair, I may have to do a drawing to see who will wear the sweater. And I do love Mae’s outfit – I think I would love it even if it wasn’t pink!

I got two amaryllis before Christmas, one from Sam’s Club and one from Trader Joe’s. the one from Sam’s Club grew beautifully and had six beautiful pink and white blooms! The one from Trader Joe’s appears to be a dud. 🙁 I guess it has grown some, but not much and not very fast, and no buds to develop into flowers. But I’m stubborn and I’m leaving it in the window in case it’s just a late bloomer. It is supposed to be all white.

Jeanne, you probably have my address on file somewhere, but it’s been awhile since I’ve won one of your auctions, so I will send it to you. Thanks for drawing my name in your sleep! 🙂

    1. Joy in northern CA

A big congrats on your win! Hope you can get a pic of one of your girls wearing the sweater and send it to Jeanne. And sorry about your amaryllis. Mine was from Traders too, but bloomed some time ago and is currently blooming again. You might try peeling off the wax and putting it in a pot with soil. Can’t hurt to try. 🙂

    2. Linda in St. Louis

Congratulations, Theresa! You will have to send a picture of your dolls wearing the winning sweater!

    3. Barbara in SE Texas

Congratulations Theresa. Can’t wait to see who gets to wear the lovely sweater and what will go with it.

    4. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Congratulations, I hope to see it you a doll. I am still working on finding colors for my won sweater. I love it’s colors but they are hard to find matches.

  5. Long long long exhausting day indeed, Jeanne.
I am so glad to know this bit is over and hopefully recovery is easy.
I hope the overnight good sleep was refreshing, and both of you feel good today.
Congratulations to Theresa, she will enjoy this cutie sweater!!!
Mae looks so adorable just laying flat on her back, kind of copying you and George.
whew. The shoes look great. They are hand made. We must always remember, Only God is Perfect.
Your amaryllis looks great. This proves it is in a very happy comfortable environment.
Happy Tuesday everyone. I am big goals today, errands in the sunshine and it is going to be 37º WOW

I’m glad you are done with that surgery. When I had my knee replaced, we arrived, as directed, so early that the sky was still black and most of the hospital doors were locked. I wasn’t allowed into my room until after the surgery, so my sister had to stay to guard my suitcase. It was 2:pm before I was even starting to be prepped. Then my sister came with me to stand by my head and repeat the directions, since I was losing my hearing. They were sure she pass out at the sight of a large needle, but she just shrugged and said, “Eh,” to the medical team and, “Don’t move now” to me.

There was a brief conversation about the doctor’s name. He said it was Swiss. I said that I thought Switzerland handled their military draft well. Everyone looked at him, so everything halted while he explained the Swiss system. It was my favorite moment.

I’ve been looking forward to Mae’s hat. It was definitely worth the wait.

I hope you got the rest you needed and George gets the result all of you are hoping for. Stay well.

Boy, that was an extremely long day. Getting up that early, would do me in for sure. Next time, when you are exhausted, maybe have a little card/photo ready that says, Jeanne is sleeping and will return when she awakens! Or something like that so you don’t have to write anything or add any other photos. You know that we would understand. And I certainly hope that the patient is doing well this morning. I think that Jeanne, also needs to take it easy today and catch some extra ZZZ’s. That is after she takes Reuben out and feeds the chickens as well.
My amaryllis started it’s second blooming a couple of days ago too. It sure is fun seeing some color on the dining room table.

Well, I was right about the sewing machine. When I finally got back to taking a look, instead of using the wheel to manually move the needle up, I used the electronic machine needle button. Go figure. Then, rethreaded the machine for the third time. That worked. I presume that anything I am so trained to do manually, is no longer necessary. Anyway, it is still being a bit fussy because of the metallic rick rack trim I’m using, but at least I got the horse blanket done. Hope no one takes a close look though. 🙂
We were supposed to have some sprinkles last night, but that didn’t happen. Maybe today, but right now, the sun is popping out. We also have roses blooming and the daffodils are pushing up in the raised bed. A very strange year for us. With climate change, a very early spring. Crazy

    1. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

So glad you got the machine working, Joy. Looking forward to seeing the horse blanket, and I think you are great to try to sew over that rick rack!

Dear Jeanne, prayers continue for you and George. I am glad you traveled safely. Please try to get rest yourself so you can stay strong.

I think I saw Mae wink. She will be sad to give up her pretty dress but I am sure she enjoyed modeling it.

  9. Barbara in SE Texas

Because I have been at the blog off and on lately somehow I missed the date of George’s surgery. But I did know he was having surgery at some time so I’ve been praying for you both. Glad he did well and hope for a swift recovery and some good sleep for you both.

Pretty weather here again today. It looks like winter is over for us this year but one year we did have a cold front come through in mid-May. It was the day of our church Spring Fling and boy was it cold and windy. Few came and most of those who had booths left early. As it is said, nothing is so uncertain as the weather.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I’ve been wondering where you’ve been. Unless, I missed seeing something. Glad to see your post.

  10. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Congratulations Theresa, I hope whichever dolly you choose they enjoy wearing the sweater.
Jeanne, I will keep praying for George and hope he makes a full recovery. I also hope you feel more refreshed this morning. (There are advantages to living in the city, the hospital where I had my hip replacement is barely 10 mins away from my house. Where Sam had her chemo is about 20 mins away.)
    Have a great day everyone

    1. Linda in .St. Louis

Anne, I was just thinking about that where city living is better for medical reasons. I live 1 mile away from a major hospital, and it takes me 5 minutes to get there. I was thinking of Jeanne and George, living so far away and all that driving they had to do. However, I don’t really live in the city proper, but in the suburbs, and our hospital wasn’t here when we moved here. It relocated from the city.

      1. Joy in northern CA

Interesting, as we are close to the hospital as well. We aren’t in the downtown area, but suburbs too.

  11. God bless your hubby.

    Mae’s ensemble is adorable.
I ALSO have an amaryllis that’s blooming a second time (with 2 additional shoots), and mine ALSO is shorter. PLUS it looks a LOT like yours without the white stuff. Did you get yours at Trader Joes?

    1. I think my sister, Cindy, got it at Sam’s, or maybe Lowe’s… I think it’s going to be blooming in about 2 days… YAY!
      Blessings, Jeanne

  12. Jeannie. I’m thinking of you and George and hope things go well in the future. Both of you need to rest when you can and just take care of yourself.

Mae’s whole outfit is adorable and I love the picture of Mae sitting on the brick. She looks so cute.
