Some Darling Dolls dressed for Easter…

HI everyone,
I was busy “altering” a shower curtain to fit a window for my pastor… but forgot to take a picture of it, so the next time I’m over there I will snap a picture and show you what I did. He needed a covering for a window in his shower… something that wasn’t see through when the light was on.

I also managed to get my doll gloves listed in my Etsy shop. I’m going to wait until I have time to make more Ruby Red Fashion Friends gloves before I list them on Etsy. My goodness, my Etsy shop has been sorely neglected for quite some time. It looked nice to see a few things in there now. If you’d like to just take a peek, you can click this link to get there…

I Dream of Jeanne Marie Etsy Shop

I told you we had another “Linda” who had some girls dressed for Easter…and they are adorable. These girls are from Linda Gronvall in Minnesota. She said a big snow was coming so the girls dressed up in their Easter outfits early… just in case! :o) Aren’t they adorable?

I have a few doll dresses that when I think of Easter, I think of these. I’m not searching all my pictures… just the ones I can think of off the top of my head that scream Easter is coming! I’ll just do a slide show, as I’m sure you know all these dolls (and probably all these pictures…) but I do have some new ladies, so I hope everyone enjoys this trip down memory lane.

I always thought the “back” of this dress was so pretty!

This was one of my favorites to photograph… that’s Janie in a red bob wig and Noel gave up her long blonde locks to wear a short red bob too… Aren’t they sweet?

I’ll show one more set… This was another set I enjoyed making… and couldn’t decide who got to wear it, so both Lian and Janie got to.

Well, those are some of my Easter dresses from past years… I should look back and see if I can find out which was my very first Easter dress…

Until then, I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Thank you for sharing a picture of your girls all dressed up for Easter, Linda G.! I recognize Kirsten and Molly, of course, but I’m not sure who the girl is in the blue coat. I recognize her as an older doll, but can’t quite place her.

Jeanne, it’s always a treat to see your dresses again, and these all certainly look like Easter to me!! Of course, my favorite is the purple one!

What a darling picture of your three pretty dolls, Linda G.! I am thinking that the one doll on the right is Samantha, and of course Kirsten in the middle with her Birthday Dress on, and then ? on the left! Such a a pretty doll but who is she? I love her navy coat set! If only I had the courage to take my dolls outside for pictures like that!

Oh Jeanne, what an adorable display of doll clothes, and it certainly is like an Easter parade! It is still early, and I have all day to look at those outfits, so I will do that later. They are so much fun to go through and such eye candy, that I want to take the proper time to really look! I love all the straw hats!

Linda G.’s girl on the left is so sweet in her coat. I’m guessing late 40’s or early 50’s? I can be totally wrong on that. I’d love to know. 🙂 Hope the snow is light.
Thanks for sharing Linda G. and Jeanne.
And so fun to see Jeanne’s group of girls too. I’m very drawn to the last cute chickie dress/hat. So fun.
And now Jeanne is tailoring a shower curtain and with a pretty useless thumb as well. Don’t overdo for sure.

Here’s my doll guess on Linda’s doll. American Character Sweet Sue 21″. Anyone else have a guess?

I saw your comment yesterday on the shoe dilemma. A few years ago when I got my Boneka dolls I had a shoe frenzy and bought several pairs of all styles. Sure glad I did. I never thought of the well running dry as it has. Same thing with patterns from Russian shops on Etsy. Many of my patterns came from those shops and I had several in my “buy later” that now say this item no longer available. Sometimes I think I overbuy but then things like this happen and things are no longer available, I’m glad I went for it while I could. In the broad scheme of things I guess this is not indicative of a crisis but if the shoe fits I like to buy it in every color, even for my doll girls. But this brings me to another funny story about my daughter. One year for back-to-school I bought her several pairs of tennis shoes in varying colors thinking she could match them to her outfits. But I guess she was too young for that concept because she would wear one pair until she couldn’t remember where she took them off and then pull out another pair and wear them until she lost track of them. She never did match them to her outfits.

I sure hope some company fixes the shoe depletion problem.
Kids can be so funny. I can just see missing shoes turning up in strange places. But, good idea to buy several pairs matching outfits or not. 🙂

  4. It’s always fun to see your past outfits, Jeanne. Lots of Easter candy, so to speak! I can’t decide which is my favorite. Noel’s outfit ( Noel or Noelle? I forget her spelling) and Lian’s Easter’s dress, the first two, is as close as I can get to favorites.

And Linda G., love the picture of your Dollie’s, especially with the extra effort to display your girls in an outdoor setting. Many children have their Easter pictures taken outside, so your picture depicts that perfectly. Thank you for sharing!

I just love it when my sofa sisters share their dolly pictures. So much to see and so many different ideas. Linda G.’s girls are lovely and I too was wondering about the little lady on the left. I have a Toni doll but this doll seems slimmer. I’ve never seen Sweet Sue in person, only on pattern envelopes so Joy may be right or it could be a Mary Hoyer. I know some of my sofa sisters have Mary Hoyer dolls. I’ve never seen one of them in person either.

I say I never win anything but I was fortunate to win the Boneka outfit in the first picture and my Charlotte wore that last year with pride. She totally enjoyed Bunny Foo Foo (I think that was the name). And I’m not a newbie, but there sure are a lot of outfits I’ve never seen before. I love the last one in black and yellow.
One of my favorite combinations. And the Little Darling dress with the pink jacket and hat is lovely. The ones with Janie and Noelle are precious. And you are always amazing in the headgear department. I’m terrible when it comes to that. Totally no imagination. Headbands and bows are usually my limit and hats if they came with the outfit. My poor dolls are displayed in a rather congested manner unless doing a photo shoot and their hats get knocked off or just don’t stay on well at all. The hats that come with the outfits from Cottontail Doll Designs tend to be more like berets and they work better than most and last year I made some boater hats using plastic canvas that were totally cute but they just sit on top of the head and, depending upon the hair style of their wig, fall off at the drop of a hat (no pun intended). I have some cute hat patterns and I’ve wanted to create some of the straw hats using the molds but sometimes I’m just fortunate to get the basic outfits made without all the accoutrements.

I’m on the way to finishing up Easter outfits. I have two more I’d like to make but with dressing the dolls, routine household “to-dos” and several church services this week that we have to arrive early for since we are in the choir, my sewing time will be limited. The two dresses I’m planning are for my two Paola Reina dolls. They are simple dresses so I might get them done. Cleo Patrice does have a pretty dress to wear that I made a few years ago but Liu does not have a dress of her own and last year had to borrow one, which could also be done this year since some actually have more than one. Time will tell.

  6. How sweet your dolls look, Linda G.! The one on the left looks a bit like my mom’s Madame Alexander “Maggie”. Maggie needs to be restrung though. Love her fancy coat and hat.
Yes, Jeanne, I think I do remember all the dresses, but it’s always fun to see them again.
I really loved that turquoise one on Rebecca. The chicks and black/white gingham is adorable! All the hats are super cute.

I’d love to see the Madame Alexander Maggie doll. Maybe she can sit in a chair or something?

Joy, you are correct! The doll in the blue coat is an American Character, Sweet Sue, 21 inches. I received her for my 6th birthday as my “one, big doll.” Still enjoy dressing her in the numerous outfits made by my mother and aunt…and I’ve added a few too! I always remembered her as “Sweet Sue” but when I took her in for a cleaning, repainting, the Doll Doctor could find no markings to confirm it. Evidently back then, the blank head molds were shared by numerous companies. A few years later, I found a picture of this doll in her original outfit pictured in the book “American Character Dolls” by Judith Izen. That’s enough confirmation for me. Nice to have an “old friend” from the early 50’s!
Thanks everyone, for your kind comments. Enjoyed Jeanne’s Easter Parade! May you all have a blessed Easter.

What? I was right? Well, American Character Sweet Sue is a real special one. Thanks so much for sharing her. That special Easter coat she is wearing is terrific. I really like her facial look too. Wish I had been given a similar doll, but my mother didn’t think I could handle big dolls. So, I had lots of Ginny dolls instead. 🙂

      1. Linda G from MN

You have a good eye! There was a lot of emphasis on “one big doll” and the need to take care of her! My mom made the Easter coat from a Simplicity pattern. I enjoyed my Ginny doll too.

        1. Joy in northern CA

Well, your mom must have been a great seamstress as that coat is well, marvelous. So, do you still have your Ginny’s?? I do, but all need restringing. 🙁

          1. The little (then) girl across the street found a big doll house on the curb during COVID. She convinced her folks she could have it in her room. So I fixed up my Ginny doll and an 8 inch Madam Alexander ballerina and gave them to her to live in the house. Time to down-size, and they had less emotional strings than the big dolls. I did enjoy them.
