Today my Lassie, Lian, Looks all grown up!

Lian has grown up overnight it seems… Some how she looks more sophisticated today in the dress than she did last night… Does she to you?

I finished her shoes, made her slip, made her a ribbon sash to wear around her waist, made a little muffin hat, and made some thigh highs. I was as busy today as I was yesterday. Oh and she found a little green bear she wants for her accessory. I was taking these pictures when I realized I hadn’t taken off the little jewel around the neck and replaced it with a ribbon. It’s kind of tarnished, so I will be removing it.

I like everything, but I’m not certain about her hat… is it a tad too big? I’m never certain what size to make these things and exactly how to wear them. I DO like them cocked a little to the side. In some pictures they seem okay, but in other ones, it looks like she has a Jiffy Pop head to me. Maybe it’s just the way some of them are sitting on her head.

I’ll just let you see all my pictures and see what you think…

Here are lots of views of the hat to help you (and me) decide if it’s right or not…

See, I told you I had lots of pictures to help me decide… but I still can’t… hmmm…

I will study them over the weekend and see what you all think…

See you Monday,
Blessings, Jeanne

The ribbon sash is just perfect with that dress, Jeanne. The perfect finishing touch!

As to the hat….yes, it does seem a little large and “poufy” to me. But then I’m not a huge fan of muffin hats, so it might just be that that is coloring my perception. (I do like berets, however, which are the same idea but without the “pouf”!) All in all, it’s a wonderful outfit.

    1. HI Charlotte,
Well, I did get the dress listed on Ebay, after taking some pictures outside, but it was kind of gloomy and they didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped.
I decided to include the muffin hat, but made a hair bow to go with it too.
      Thanks so much!

I love that ribbon sash with the attached bow, Jeanne! I was hoping itwouldn’t be too wide, and is just perfect! In all, what a pretty little dress!

On the hat, I too, am not a fan of muffin hats, and yes, it does seem too large for Lian. Maybe make it smaller or do something else, but you do have this made, so I guess it is best to tweak this one, and maybe add a hair bow too.

I’m looking forward to what they say will be a 70 degree day, and in February, that’s a treat for us!

    1. Hi Linda,
Well, it appears the ribbon sash was a great addition, but the muffin hat, not so much. I managed to get some pictures taken outside after I got home from the Food Pantry. But it was getting dark and already gloomy outside, so they aren’t the greatest.
I made a hairbow on a band and showed it on her but decided to send along the muffin hat, in case someone’s doll loved it! To each his own!

I was planning on wearing a red printed velvet dress to the Valentine’s party Tuesday evening, but it’s supposed to be in the 50’s I think… a bit too warm for velvet… so I’ve got to find something else now… ugh!

      Thanks Linda,
      Have a great weekend.

Definitely like the sash. I too am not a fan of the muffin hat. Sort of reminds me of a deflated chef’s hat. Seems like they are kind of out of style right now unless it is a plaid tam with a plaid skirt. I would like to see an oversized bow attached with a clippie that could be placed more to the side of Lian’s head. Or, a bow on a very narrow headband. I think a full hat is overpowering with the full skirt. I think Lian also needs a very demure bracelet. Tiny white pearls with a simple shamrock dangle or even a silver heart. But, otherwise, I love this dress. 🙂
Another frosty morning here, but my mini daffodils are thriving anyway.

The dress is lovely. I do think a green bow would complete the dress better than the muffin hat on a doll this small. During what era were muffin hats popular and with what style of clothing? The belt looks like it could be tightened a bit. Otherwise, it’s darling!

      1. HI Susette,
I actually made the bow for her hair from the same fabric as the skirt part of her dress. I added it to a band that snaps in place.
I’m not sure when muffin hats were popular… I need to figure out the correct size if I plan to make any more. I just kept thinking Jiffy Pop Popcorn when I looked at her. The set is listed on Ebay now and I did include the hat, but also added the hairbow.
The belt is just a satin ribbon and it really can’t be tightened, as it rides up on her waist… if it could have been cut on the bias, it would have hugged her waist better…
        Thanks Susette,
        Blessings, Jeanne

    2. HI Joy,
Well, since the muffin hat was already made, I included it in the listing on Ebay this evening, but did what you suggested… made a hair bow on a band… I got some outside pictures of her with the hair bow in place and it works much better… The pictures aren’t great, it was pretty gray and gloomy outside…
I mentioned in my listing I would try to make a bracelet… I better do that tomorrow before I forget. I hope I have a shamrock charm… I might!
      Thanks for all your suggestions.

  4. Like everything about this dress. The square neckline, the button front trim, the sash is perfect, the lace on the hemline, the color coordination of the shoes, buttons, sash with skirt fabric is perfection. I was skeptical of the white top (never my favorite) but I’m converted. Really like how the back is almost on the diagonal. I agree the hat is a little too puffy. It’s almost competes with the skirt. I like these hats flatter and overflowing on one side, or even to the back. Just a lovely outfit.

    1. HI Dorothy,
Yes, it seems unanimous the muffin hat was too big… I keep wanting to call it the Jiffy Pop hat… I did make a hair bow to go with it… but included the hat if someone wants it… I’ve made them before for Lian and she always looked so cute in them. I’m going to have to go back and look at some pictures of her in them and try to get my size better.
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Have a nice weekend.
      Blessings, Jeanne

    1. Thanks so much Nancy… Well, you might be the only one in the whole group today who actually likes the hat. I did make a hair bow on a band and included it with the set that I managed to get listed on Ebay this evening.
Thanks so much for chiming in…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  5. She is a sweet little lass. Love the dress and shoes and ribbon belt. Love the square neck so much! I think the hat is a bit too big too.

    1. HI Kathie,
You went straight for the truth… she’s sweet, loved the dress, shoes and ribbon belt… love the square neckline… The hat it too big!
Direct and to the point… actually to the TRUTH! Thanks for being honest.
I did make a hair bow but left the muffin hat in the auction, if someone wanted to have it… It’s on Ebay now…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  6. Barbara in SE Texas

Great pictures! I love the sash and it is the perfect color. As for the hat, it looks the same as some I have bought and fits the same. Wonderful outfit!

    1. HI Barbara…
Well, you and Nancy are certainly in the minority today about the hat. I’m going to have to search some of those hats on Lian in the past and see what I did that made this one seem so much bigger. I always thought she looked so adorable in them…
The set is listed on Ebay now… I’ll put a link to it at the side of my post.
Blessings to you Barbara… have a great weekend.
      Blessings, Jeanne

  7. Sissy Lingle on the GA coast

Agree with almost all of the remarks, everything is great but the hat. Also there should be a shamrock in there somewhere.
I know it will be another winner for you.

    1. HI Sissy,
I did make a hair bow attached to a band and I’m hoping to find a shamrock somewhere in my jewelry stash…
      Thanks for your kind comments…
      Blessings, Jeanne

  8. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, what a cute outfit.

I don’t know about the hat. I wondering if it would only work with a certain type of wig.

Happy Weekend to you and the Sofa Sisters!

    1. Yep, even Dorothy, the non-sewer, could spot that muffin hat was a bit too puffy! :o) I did include it in the listing on Ebay this evening, thinking that the winner might be able to salvage it or make it look okay on their doll, but I also made a hair bow that looks much better on Lian. I took some outside pictures, but they look a bit drab to me… I thought with it being sort of cloudy outside, they would be great, but not so much. It was very windy too… I think they’ll do…
      Have a great weekend, Dorothy!
      Blessings, Jeanne
