American Girl, Molly, is miffed with me…

I just saw TODAY IS SUSETTE’S BIRTHDAY!!!
Happiest of birthdays to you!!!!!

She sure is… she was hoping I could get her dress set completed over the weekend. So was I! But life happened… Kristoffer came over Saturday and had quite a long visit with us. I also had some other small projects I had to get finished before Monday.

I told her I was doing the best I could.

Now, don’t look at her dress and think to yourself, “that’s okay, but nothing special” because “hopefully” tomorrow it WILL be special.

I tacked down the collar at the back of the neck, and that drew it in a bit, making it look “not so wide.”

I also got the snaps sewn on the back of the dress and the skirt attached. It hasn’t been hemmed yet.

I took Molly’s hair out of the clip and will probably leave it loose. I liked Marilyn’s idea of a headband with a bow.

Well, this was short, but it’s all I have today… maybe Molly won’t be miffed anymore when she sees she’s in the limelight today…

See everyone tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

It often surprises me (although after all the years *I* have been sewing it really shouldn’t!!) how something as “small” as tacking down the collar can make such a big difference, but it sure does. It no longer looks uneven or too big. And of course she now has two sleeves, not one, and a real skirt added on!! So you really Have made some progress!

I am currently working on our annual “twinsie challenge”–and not getting a whole lot done every day. But today I got the neckband/collar sewn in place; just sleeves, side seams and hems left to do! The collar is the picky part, as it’s a ruched cross-over V that’s set into a reinforced V on the garment.

And the “twinsie challenge”? That’s something my girlfriend Tonya and I started doing at/for Sewing Expo a few years ago. We buy the same fabric at Expo and agree on a project (top, jacket, bag), take the fabric home and make up said project (patterns can vary; we have yet to make up the same pattern, but we have chosen Very similar styles!). The following year we bring our finished projects back to Expo and wear them the same day, and of course get our pictures taken at the Expo photo booth! Since she’s in Utah and I’m in Washington State, Expo is the only time we see each other, so we just keep in touch via email or phone, and no “reveal” until we are together again!

While I was hoping to see more done on the dress, Jeanne, I completely understand! So nice to have Kristoffer and visit! Molly’s dress can wait!

Yes, the collar is a bit smaller and both sleeves are on, plus the skirt, so it looks like the foundation of something special ! Right now, I just see a dress, but I’m sure when it gets finished it will be something more than “just a dress”! So many possibilities!

Charlotte, your twinsie challenge sounds fun! Hope we get to see the results!

What a beautiful snowfall we had Friday! We received 5 inches, and it looked like a winter wonderland, ….and it was! I would say about 75% is melted by now, but I am ready for spring!

I love that collar — it is so becoming and shows off Molly’s cheerful pretty face. Kit and Molly always look so dauntless.

Molly could use some matching blue shoes. Whatever accessories she gets will be fun because they always are. An Easter basket? A purse for church? A baby chick? I’ll love finding out what buttons you have for this outfit. And a petticoat, of course.

I happened to have some cucumbers and some pint jars I was going to recycle, so I looked up Linda’s pickles and made a half batch. What better way to recycle?

Well, since no white placket down the front with blue buttons, maybe Jeanne, is planning on a lovely white pinafore?? That would be fun. I would go for an oversized bow on a clippie with no band to fiddle with for Molly. Perhaps it might be a double bow with matching blue for the accent color?
Boy did we get rain yesterday. Came pouring down. Was overflowing our drainage system, running in waves down the front steps, and quite a sight. Might have been fun if I were younger as paper boats would have been interesting to see tearing across the flooded patio, down the steps, and floating in the lake in front of the garage door out in front. Interesting as I had called the water department earlier because the street was dry in the morning and we could see water leaking out from the pavement on the street. By the time a guy came to take a look, the rain had begun and it was impossible to spot the leaks again. They’re keeping an eye on it. 🙂 So much for Sunday.
Hope everyone is keeping dry because we’d be happy to share some water with you.

Pretty dry here Joy though it did rain last night, thank goodness. We have had a couple of scrub fires on the Port Hills so the rain will help to damp them down a bit and the fire fighters might get some sleep.

Very sorry to hear of the fires. Right now, they are sleeping here, only to reignite as soon as the grasses which are thriving from the rains grow and present a threat. Stay Safe

It’s interesting how some fabrics just carry off an outfit all by themselves. I know there’s more to come on this dress but it is a very pretty dress on its own. I like what you did with the collar. I’ve never had to tack one down in back but have often had to tack one down in front, especially on small dresses. Collars can be a real asset to an outfit unless they refuse to lie flat.

Charlotte your “twinsie” idea sounds like a lot of fun. And how wonderful you have such an enduring friendship with your Expo friend.

After complaining about the warm humid day on Friday I woke up Saturday morning to temps barely out of the 30s and it never got above 46 all day. And it was very windy. Sunday was about the same. It was a little warmer when I got up today so we may be on the way to the predicted warming this week with highs in the high 70s. I’m not fond of our heat and humidity in the summer but at least it’s predictable and I know what to wear every day. Today it’s warm pants and a sweatshirt. Probably tomorrow it will be light pants and a t-shirt. Crazy!

Lol Barbara, it is summer here and I have the same problem as you! Yesterday was 29C todays predicted temp is 18C. We have had a very dry summer which brings its own problems like fires, However it has been a summer of extremes. We usually have mainly 25-26 C in summer here on the east coast but this year it has been 29C+for a few days and then drops below 20C.

  6. A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, Susette!! 😁💐🍨🎂🍰🍬I hope that your special day is just wonderful.

Molly’s dress is coming along nicely. I think you accomplished a lot considering the other things you were doing.

    1. Forgot to comment that we also had quite a snowfall on Friday -seven inches, but luckily with the bright sun today most has melted. I am ready for spring!

Happy birthday Susette hope you have a great day.
Molly is looking great, she will have to learn to be patient. Glad you enjoyed some time with your son. I don’t see my eldest at all as he is in Melbourne but the other two boys live here in Christchurch and getting together can be a logistical nightmare especially trying to pin Darren (second eldest) down. He’s either away on business or using up his airpoints. Their children are grown and independent now so they are enjoying the freedom that brings.
Looking forward to seeing a new outfit.

  8. Well the post went away…will try another
    Happy 🎂Birthday Suzette💐
Jeanne this dress is so sweet and maybe is plain right now but I’m sure you have many ideas for it before it is finished.
Who would pass up time with an adult son. I know I’m glad mine are both busy, successful and happy but there is never much time with them and they both are pretty close!
Have a good week everyone… hope Mother Nature will settle down!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, but how did you know? It’s raining here again. Had a leak by the fireplace which is being evaluated by numerous entities for insurance purposes. I’ll send Jeanne a picture of my the orchids on the patio without the furniture which usually gets in the way of the view. Love to all ❤️🥰

Silly me! I hadn’t noticed that it’s right at the top of the blog today! Thanks for remembering, Jeanne, and Fellow Sofa Sisters. Rain 🌧️ ☔️ 🥰
