A bit more on Valentine’s Day… if you don’t mind…

Thank you to everyone for all your wonderful comments to the ladies who sent pictures…and to the ladies who sent their pictures. It truly helped out VERY much as I was swamped with finishing touches on my Valentine’s Party for the married couples from church.

We had a nice time and had 24 people there. The banquet room was a bit smaller than I had originally thought it would be, but we managed.
I thought maybe I’d show you what we did and if any of you wanted to do the VALENTINESDAY game, and send in your sentence, you are welcome. We had LOTS of fun with it…

This was me getting all the favor bags filled with cookies and candies, I think I made 150 cookies.

I kind of had a little theme going for this years party… How Smart of a Valentine Are You? Then I told everyone there were going to be 3 parts… a Writing/English part, a Math part, and an Art part…

I had a sheet of paper with the words VALENTINESDAY printed like this…this was going to be the Writing/English part… I called this game “Valentine Sentences!”

I told them they had to come up with a sentence using all the letters, but the words didn’t have to “start” with the letters but just had to have the letters “in” the word somewhere… and there couldn’t be any extra words like “and” or “to” or “but”… etc.

I wanted to see how hard it was so I quickly did 3 myself and showed them on a big sheet of artist paper… as examples…

I gave them 3 minutes and they really did a great job… unfortunately, they all got thrown away… boo hoo! Some of them were very clever. It was fun and could easily be adapted to other parties… MERRYCHRISTMAS HAPPYEASTER HAPPYBIRTHDAY…. etc… use your imagination.

The second game I called “Stacked Hearts!” I passed out conversation hearts candies and had 3 different rounds… the first round was using their dominant hand… and stacking them on top of each other as fast as they could in 45 seconds. The top 3 highest number of stacked hearts got to move to the second round. I think the top stacker was 11 hearts stacked high, then 10, and then 9… The people who had that many stacked hearts, got to move to the second round.

Round TWO was using your “non-dominant” hand and doing the same thing… stacking them as high as you could and as fast as you could. We had 4 winners with this in the 8-9 stacked hearts range.

Those 4 people moved on to Round THREE which was stacking the hearts using CHOP STICKS! One of the guys stacked 9 hearts using them and was declared the winner. We all had fun holding our breath and not bumping the tables! Unfortunately, I was using the stop watch on my phone and totally forgot about taking pictures until the party was completely over… BOO HOO big time!!!

The third game we played I called “Hearts on your Head!” It was the ART part of the night! I passed out heavy duty paper plates to everyone had had them write their names on the inside of the plates… where you usually eat… Then I passed out pencils and gave them some directions… they had to write on the backside of the plates because the inside part was too slick to write on…

1. Put your plate on your head…
2. Draw a large heart…
3. Draw a ruffle or some lace around the edge of the heart…
4. Add a tied bow at the bottom of the heart…
5. Write I LOVE YOU inside the heart…

Mind you, they were all doing this with these white paper plates on their heads and concentrating and laughing and watching each other. It was hilarious… I think our waitress thought we were crazy… but she still laughed.

Again, I was so busy giving directions, I totally missed any pictures, but one man took one picture of the persons in front of him…right when we were getting started.

After we were done, I collected the plates without them seeing what they had drawn and we picked a winner after seeing them all. It was a lot of fun…

Our Pastor gave a short devotional and we visited a little longer afterwards. It was very nice to be together again…

Okay… now I wanted to share a few of MY favorite Valentine doll dresses. Whenever I think of Valentine’s Day dresses, these are generally the ones I think of… I’m sure you’ll remember them all…

This is Lian again… modeling the most expensive dress I ever sold… :o)

An oldie, but goodie… this is Bitty Bethany, by Helen Kish… in a Valentine dress with a detachable collar made from a vintage hankie…

Here is Wren Pistachio, by Helen Kish, modeling her version of Valentine dress from yet, another vintage hankie… one of my very favorite dresses ever…

10″ Patsy Tonner in “Love Birds!”

Lian again, in probably my number one pick for dresses I ever made. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this one! I may have shed a tear or two as I packed it up…

Here is Molly in a fun gray and red print, not exactly Valentine fabric, but I loved it… so did she!

This is tiny little, 7 1/2″ Riley Kish, by Helen Kish in probably my favorite dress I ever made her… she was so cute in it.

It doesn’t get much more “Valentine-ish” than Isabelle in this sweet red and white confection! Loved it too!

Here is Molly in “Pink Perfection!”

Again, Happy “Belated” Valentine’s Day to you all!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Your Valentine party sounds like a lot of fun. Great game ideas! It seems we’ve done that drawing-on-top-of-your-head game somewhere down the line, but not for Valentine’s Day, but rather maybe a Halloween party or a shower. It’s years ago, so I don’t remember the details at the moment.

Oh, all those Valentine dresses are wonderful!! I think my favorites are the first two–the smocked one Lian is wearing, and the one for Bitty Bethany.

What a fun time all of you must have had last night! The games sounded like fun and I’m sure there were laughs all around! You didn’t mention if there was also a meal, but those cookies were a hit, I’m sure, as were the other goodies in those cute bags!

Well, there it is, a smocked dress made by you! I have always loved smocked dresses, and they are a special weakness for me! I hope you make another soon!

All those beautiful dresses, I simply cannot pick just one (like potato chip ads say)!

  3. Fun party Jeanne!
You take so much care and thought into everything you do, parties!!
and sweet dolls in stunning dresses.
thank you for sharing these today!!
You are so lovely, and a dear friend

Clever work on those party games Jeanne! Looks like they were a great success and enjoyed by all.

Those dresses are amazing. I have not seen them before but would be happy for repeat productions, especially for the Little Darlings. The hankie apron on the Kish Bethany is so delicate and those heart buttons with embroidery on the bodice are just beautiful. Molly looks perfect in pink dotted swiss.

Perfect photos to share as we await spring!

Sounds like your party turned out well. I think you should put up a sign, Jeanne’s Parties, and do the games at adult/kids parties. You might be surprised how many would love to have someone do the games at a function.
Fun seeing your Valentine theme dresses. Molly’s Pink Perfection dress is my winner. But, many of the others also had great trims.
We had a deluge of rain last night about 2:00AM. Heard some rumbling and banging. Turns out that one of our across the street neighbors had left out her empty garbage cans after pick up. Guess they floated down the street gutter and ended up piled up in front of a car a half block away. Since they are plastic, doubt there is damage, but neighbor will be very surprised to see where they ended up. This morning, sunny and clear. 🙂

I thought it was a fun post about the Valentine’s Party games but it got even better with the addition of the wonderful Valentine dresses. Some of these I had seen before and some I hadn’t, but I never get tired of seeing them. They are all so beautiful and creative. Really glad you didn’t have us pick a favorite of these. I wouldn’t know where to start. I have a Lark Pistachio and I really love the dress you did for her. Wish you still had her because the clothes you did for her over the years you had her were lovely. Glad you’re party turned out well.

  7. I spent lots of time looking at the absolutely beautiful dresses yesterday and then life interfered and I didn’t get a comment entered but believe me I did LOVE all of them! There are so many talented Sofa Sisters!
Your party was a great success. How do you come up with all those ideas every year?
The pictures you posted could be all of my favorites because of the red and PINK! Is there any doll that isn’t cute in PINK? Of course your awesome sewing skills and talent may have lots to do with it🥰
Off to look through my hankies to see if anything would be as sweet as we have seen the past few days❤️

I wrote earlier, right after Charlotte, but I see it didn’t”take”, so I will try again.

It looks like your Valentine party was a lot of fun, and all those goodie bags sure did help! You didn’t say of a meal was served too, but who cares with those delicious cookies?

Oh, those dresses are simply devine, Jeanne! Yes, I remember you making a smocked dress, and that was the very first one you showed today! I wish you would make another, since smocking is what I simply adore in little girl’s dresses, which translates to doll dresses!🙂

All of those dresses are beautiful in their own way, and I cannot imagine picking just one! (just like they say in potato chip ads)!

  9. I didn’t finish my comments…..I loved the pink and red dresses, and liked the crochet thread or ribbon (?) threaded into the eyelet laces. That extra touch of red makes the white laces really “pop”! Enjoyed reading about your games too….we used to play after dinner games at the table after some of our Christmas dinners….sometimes there were 10-12 of us participating. I had printed paper word games or drawing games that I found online. I hope to incorporate your game ideas for this year’s Christmas gathering….especially the stacking game, but maybe use wrapped peanut butter cups or some type of small candy that can be stacked. I’ve already added 10 sets of chop sticks to my future shopping list! The paper plate drawing game could be Santa’s face or a Christmas tree. Thank you for sharing!!
