Lots of dolls to look at…

Hi everyone,
A few answers for you… this mystery doll was a Penny Brite doll… You can find her pretty cheap on Ebay.

This is a wonderful picture of Sylvia’s house in New Hampshire… isn’t it gorgeous???

Sylvia added this as well…

The Sofa Sisters are very observant!
This is our house that is in the county and someone asked about the book on the table. That is “A Time to Keep” by Tasha Tudor. It is about the changing seasons and I change it every month! Have a good day!

Now for the dolls. My sister, Cindy, spotted saw ALL these dolls at a booth in an Antique store in PA. Any you would have picked up??? The pictures are a little small, but if you click on them they enlarge a bit.

Well, I hope that gives you lots to look at today! I am determined to sew something this week… hand or no hand!!! Well, actually it might be a little difficult to sew without my hand, so you better hope it improves really soon!!!

See you tomorrow!
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Sylvia, the exterior of your home is just as lovely as the interior!

I’m not familiar with that particular book, but I do have a Tasha Tudor book (a smaller one) which is, if I recall, an alphabet book. I think it’s downstairs in my book cupboard, and it’s been a while since I looked at it. I do like her illustrations!

Lots to look at indeed!! I saw quite a few Madame Alexanders, most in boxes. Some Nancy Ann dolls, even three in their polka-dot boxes, but down in the lower left corner of that same picture (3rd one down) is a Nancy Ann out of the box–possibly a bride?

The basket with all the dolls has at least two that are Bye-Lo babies or similar–the one at front left and the one in back, to the right of that big doll. Bye-Lo was so popular back in the day that many companies copied that design.

Under that picture is a lovely ballerina doll that I would have given my eye teeth for when I was a kid! My cousin (same age as I) had one, and never played with it, so her mom gave it to our Other cousin–who never played with it, either!! 😢 As I recall, she had “REAL Capezio shoes!!” according to the box.

I’m pretty sure the doll in the pale pink/aqua dress (two more pictures down) is a Toni doll, or at least made with the mold. Lots of Shirley Temples, lots of Barbie and friends, too. Fun!!

Jeanne, i tseems like two years since we had a blog to read, even though it was only two days! I’m happy for you, though, since you need the extra day!

Well, Sylvia, your house looks JUST like I would imagine a house in New Hampshire would look! How old is it? I see another building next to it and wonder if that is another house or a garage? You certainly created a beautiful scene in that picture with all the candles in the windows!

Oh my all the dolls! Many of the older ones I do recognize! (wonder why?) LOL
I remember getting a Nancy Ann bride doll, but she was not a storybook doll. She was a bit smaller than the AG dolls, and I have yet to find a doll like that no matter where I look. I do see Nancy Ann storybook dolls there, plus Madame Alexanders too, and a Kewpie doll!

There is a bevy of Shirley Temple’s and who is that beautiful doll, in the second to last picture? I would loved to have her when a little girl! Gosh, I’ll even take her now, though I don’t collect antique dolls unless she is one of my older dolls and has a special meaning to me.

Thank you Cindy for taking us along to one of your antique store visits! I hope your hand gets better soon Jeanne! What a thing to happen to a seamstress!

  3. What a great antique store to have that many different dolls in one place.
At one time I had a whole series of the 8” Madame Alexander dolls ( in the 70’s and 80’s,) I only have a Scarlett and an Irish girl left. I gave the majority of them away to family girls and other donations. Besides getting them myself, my best friend and I gave them to each other for birthdays and Christmas gifts over the years. Having as many as we did and then adding Barbie’s and AMG’s to the mix, it was doll overload, we both decided something had to give.
I also have two Shirley Temples, I loved her old movies and thought she was the cutest little girl. It was interesting to see some of the older ones I would have loved to have had.
Cindy, thanks for sending the pictures for us to see.

Sylvia, love the picture of your home. It’s the perfect New England design.
Jeanne, hope your hand gets better. That must be frustrating for you. Also hope George is feeling much better.

  4. Karen from Kentucky

Sylvia, your house looks pretty with all the lights in the windows.
My mother in law likes those Tasha Tudor books, too. They have beautiful pictures in them.
    I think I see a Kewpie doll!
I hope your hand feels better soon, Jeanne.

  5. Joy in northern CA

Thanks Sylvia for sharing your beautiful home pic. Just a dream. 🙂
And thanks Cindy for for fun dolly pics as well.
Hope Jeanne, is back to sewing soon. Take care.

  6. Dorothy in PA and the World

Dear Jeanne, thank you for sharing your sister’s photographs. Wow there are so many dolls! If I show them to my local doll club, I am sure they will say “Road Trip!”

I saw a Chatty Baby Brother (sibling of Chatty Cathy) in the basket. I saw a Tiny Tears or Betsy Wetsy (I get them confused) also in the basket. I think I saw a Sweet Sue standing.

Dear Sylvia, what a lovely house. You must smile each time your pull into the driveway!

Dear Sofa Sisters, yesterday was National Grandparents Day. Happy day to all of you who have little ones or big ones who call you Grammy, or Nana, or Mamaw, or Abuela, or Nonna, or Bubbe, or YiaYia, or Grand-mère!

    1. Lauren From the Land of Lincoln

That’s awful sweet Dorothy. I mean wishing all the Grandmothers a different name an wishing them all a Happy Grandparents Day! I called one of my grandmothers Mummy because she was English! I wish all the grandmothers and your husbands who must be grandfathers a Happy Grandparents Day too!
I agree too that Sylvia’s home is lovely! Thank you for sharing it with us! Is it in the Colonial style? Jeanne I so hope you hand starts feeling so much better again soon!!!!😊👼

  7. Hi Sylvia, your home is just lovely. The setting is gorgeous and I love your weathervane and all the candles in the windows. Thank you! I was the one who asked about the book. I was almost certain it was a Tasha Tudor and I have read “A Time to Keep’ along with the majority of her books/. My childhood copy of “The Secret Garden” is illustrated by her.
Fun to see all the dolls. Someone had a little Shirley Temple collection. I also enjoy seeing the Nancy Anns.
Hope your hand is better soon, Jeanne.

What a great picture of Sylvia’s New Hampshire house. So cozy looking both inside and out. That’s my kind of place. Can’t seem to pull that off here since I’m the only one interested in achieving that.

So many dolls and even with my cheaters on I can’t pick them out. So I’m relying on others who seem to do it quite well to fill me in. My eyesight is fine but close-up things are a struggle. My Toni doll arrived last week. My childhood doll had a deep aqua dress which I loved but this one’s dress is a deep blue. But all-in-all she is in amazing condition with her dress, panties, socks and shoes all being original and she is nearly blemish free.

We woke up to quite a surprise Saturday morning. No water. David was already dressed and on his way out the door to see where the trouble lie (or is that lay). Our yard was full of water and it had drained down to the mobile home park behind us before the water was shut off. The large water line that runs across our street had nearly split in two because we have not had rain in weeks. We were glad it wasn’t our problem so could relax a little. Evidently our neighbor up the street had opened the door to let his dog out during the night and saw the water spouting from the street. He thought it was our problem so he came down to tell us but it was about 1:30 a.m. We were sound asleep and didn’t answer the door so he called 911. and they alerted the city of the problem. The repair crew arrived about 2 a.m. they told David so had been working on it for hours when I got up at 8 a.m. We got our water back on late morning but our street is not totally accessible because they don’t want to close it up until they are sure the problem has been solved. So far so good so they should be able to repair the street soon. Fortunately all the driveways on the street are on one side or the other of the repair ditch so no one is too inconvenienced.

The temp here when I got up this morning was 73. Usually has been in the mid 80s. At lunch time it was 90 so even if it rises some it will go down soon after by evening. I think our heat dome has either moved or dissipated and things are supposed to get increasingly better in the upcoming days. Now if we could just get some rain. .

  9. Linda in St. Louis

I happened to notice, that I used to be able to click onto a picture to enlarge it, but now when I do, that doesn’t happen. It is just about the same size but with nothing else around the picture. I wonder what happened? Does anyone else have this problem?

    1. Linda,
Cindy’s pictures were on the smaller side to begin with, so they didn’t enlarge much for me either… maybe 1/2″ or so bigger was all.

  10. Kathie from Omaha

Sylvia has the perfect house for her area. Just what one would imagine when you closed our eyes and thought of New Hampshire. When does the colored fall leaves season start? That was always on my bucket list .
Cindy hit the jackpot at that Antique Store. They look like they could have been one persons collection. I am always interested in the Storybook dolls. Those seem like nice ones🤭 cute Ideal Toni dolls too..
    Have a good week everyone😍

  11. Ingrid B in Western New York

Hi Jeanne and my sofa sisters, it’s been a while since I commented. As no one is on my sofa (no time for dolly’s these days) I thought I’d just share a little of what’s going on around here lately. It’s been one crazy summer here in western New York. Babysitting Dominic (grand number 4); Monday through Friday 830am to 610pm, taking dinner to mom and dad 2 to 3 times a week. And now both parents needing cataract surgery, so lots of doctor visits. Mom’s right eye is done, and her left will be done this Wednesday then its dads turn. Mom uses a wheelchair when we travel, she’s fragile and tires easily. I have thrown my back out twice in the last two months, the first time I woke up in pain and not able to stand straight or walk. I’m really not sure how I did it, but I needed the help of my walker. It took a while but I got back to normal … well, my normal anyway. Then I did it to myself again! Yikes, this time I knew how I did it. Hubby was very mad with me. I’m not supposed to lift (more than 15lbs) and boy oh boy did I do a no no! Thank goodness for muscle relaxers and me keeping the walker and cane after I was all healed up from two back surgeries. any who what I’ve discovered is it’s easier for Mom to get in and out of her car than my van, so I think we’ve finally got the kinks worked out there. Mom has finally accepted the fact that it’s time to sell the house and move in with hubby and I. We are adding onto our home. House hunting stinks! We’ve looked and looked, been disappointed a few times and then when we found something that worked for all of us mom refused to move. Things are finally coming together. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly. I usually read the blog late at night, it’s one of the last things I do before falling asleep. I don’t comment but I sure do love reading Jeanne’s blog. Really enjoyed seeing all the photos you ladies have shared. It’s lots of fun getting to know you all better through your photos and stories. So, thanks for sharing Jeanne, also I pray your hand is feeling better soon. I’m excited to hear George is getting out and about it must mean he’s feeling much better which is wonderful! Belated Happy Anniversary wishes.
    Hugs
    Ingrid
