~ LITTLE SCHOLAR ~ is FINALLY listed on Ebay!

Hi everyone,
It’s been a good long while since I’ve listed anything on Ebay and equally as long since I’ve sewn anything for dolls! I can usually list things on Ebay without even thinking, but being away from it for 6-7 weeks made me second guess everything I was doing. However… Ten Ping’s or Gigi’s, or Mini Sara’s everywhere will be happy to know I have a new set listed on Ebay! Yep, I finally got it done! It’s been hanging over my head for weeks to get it listed!

You can see it HERE or click the picture at the right side bar…

I spent most of the afternoon taking pictures and then cropping those pictures and finally getting it listed… so I’ll have to use some of my pictures here for my post…

Here are all the pieces to this set…

I used my American Girl Scenes and Settings book for the school room backdrop for Ten Ping’s pictures… I think they look okay even with being a bit on the larger side…

My new little desk I found worked pretty well for her too… she was All OVER IT!

Well, that’s it for today… I need to work on other things right now since I “played” all afternoon!

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. TenPing’s outfit is just wonderful, Jeanne, and full of all the little details that make an outfit like this just “sing”!! I’m sure some little TenPing, Sarah, etc. will be happy to have it!!

The following is for sewers; if you don’t sew, it may not be of interest to you!! Fair warning!! šŸ˜

I read thru yesterday’s comments, and Barbara asked about thread. I still love the old Dual Duty Plus thread (cotton-wrapped poly) that C&C used to make, and it works well on all of my machines (I have 5, if you’re wondering). However, C&C stopped making it several years ago and started making DD “XP”, which is poly-wrapped poly, and I hate it!! It’s so static-y, and like sewing with fine wire, in my opinion. So I buy older spools of DD+ thread when I find it at garage sales, etc. (and stocked up on some of my basic colors when I found out they were going to change over to XP), but I still haven’t really found “my” favorite thread yet, other than that. I believe WAWAK has a cotton-wrapped poly thread, so I will try that. The Quilt Show carries cotton-wrapped poly, also–another one for me to try. AND….Coats & Clarks DOES make cotton-wrapped poly “quilting and piecing thread” (light blue spool)–not nearly as many colors as the old DD+, but it works just fine for garments, and I really can’t tell the difference between it and the original. (Big sigh of relief!)

Now, Barbara, as to your spool problem, did your machine come with a spool cap? My Viking #1+ came with two, a small one and a large one. I use the large one–it goes on top of the spool, and helps keep the thread away from the ends of the spool (and any little slits there might be there). If you don’t have one, check with your local Viking dealer and see if you can get one. The other thing, too, is how your spool is positioned. The C&C spools need to be upright; the long narrow spools (Metrosene and Gutterman) should be slanted. On my DD+ machine, the main spool pin (on the back) can be adjusted upright or angled. Hope that information is helpful!

Thereā€™s your answer: Thereā€™s a little, slightly concave piece of plastic that you put on top of the spool to keep the thread from coming off the spool at the wrong tension or just hopping off the stem. My sewing machine is like that and itā€™s not really usable without that little disk. Itā€™s there somewhere in the attachments. Good luck!šŸ€

My Singer has that and one side is for large spools and the other for the smaller spools. If I forget to put it on, this thread comes off the arm occasionally.

    2. Thanks Charlotte,
I’m glad you like Ten Ping’s new school set! She is convinced she still gets to keep it, uh… sorry Ten Ping!

I don’t care for cheap thread, but haven’t had any trouble with any of mine breaking… I might show my spool caps tomorrow, just to clarify what you are talking about… I have several!
      Thanks Charlotte

Yes I have thread caps of several sizes but totally dismissed them for no reason other than I didn’t think of them. Mostly because with my embroidery machine I got in the habit of using a free-standing thread holder because it works better for embroidery and the caps don’t fit on that. But I can switch over to using the holders on my machine for regular sewing. I think this qualifies as a big DUH! But I sure do wish they’d come up with something better than plastic spools that break. Thanks, Charlotte. One for you.

I see that Ten Ping is finally going to school! She looks darling in that outfit, and her desk fits her to a “T”! However, I am puzzled with the Ebay listing. I was expecting to see a little “story” about her and her outfit, but it doesn’t seem to be there. I miss that! Also, I don’t see where the person making a bid is advised that the doll is NOT included. Of course, we on the blog know that, but do others?

I loved the “old” way of lisitng the way you used to do, Jeanne, but wonder if this is something you had to do? No matter what, this outfit is one of the best you have made for Ten Ping, and I’m sure it will go to someone who deserves it!

    1. Hi Linda,
I did mention that my doll and the desk were not included in the auction. Actually I mentioned it at the first of the listing and again near the bottom…
As far as the story goes, I just did a little snippet saying she was starting school, but only going half days…and she was very excited to wear her new outfit made by her momma. I guess that was a pretty short story, but that was it…
Just wanted to let you know!
I’m glad you like her set… I do too… she looks so sweet in it, this one might be hard to let go!
      Thanks Linda,
      Blessings, Jeanne

Jeanne, this is really strange! When I looked at the auction early this morning, none of that was on the listing! Iā€™m trying to think of what time it was, maybe around 4 this morning. I just looked again after reading your note, and sure enough, it is all there now! Wonder what happened?

Always interested in thread types. Good to hear from Charlotte, about the C&C quilting thread. I’ll look for some. I’m not happy with the Gutterman I’ve been using for hand sewing.
Wonder what Jeanne, has in mind for the next outfit?

    1. HI Joy,
I’m wondering the same thing… who will be next? It’s been so long since I had to decide, I surely must have “someone” in mind… but I don’t! Yikes!
      Thanks Joy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

How about a suit? Something that a RR or LD or whatever girl you may decide might wear for Thanksgiving or during the December holidays. A suit with a delicate blouse and maybe thigh highs? It could be dressed up with a cute necklace or bracelet. Maybe a cute pair of flats as well. When I said suit, I was thinking of a jacket with shorts or a skirt, but not long pants. šŸ™‚

Dear Jeanne, she looks so sweet. She will surely be the “teacher’s pet” in that darling outfit.

I wanted to share some information with you and the Sofa Sisters. I learned of a Zoom Tea program that is happening on October 19. Participants will make a pin cushion (no sewing just crafting) while enjoying tea and scones. Everything is included in the kit.

I am thinking about signing up, not for the crafting part, of course, but for the “watching others and enjoying the tea part” (laugh).

This information is in the September/October Tea Time Magazine.
Here is the link to the website:

    1. HI Dorothy,
Always sharing information for us! Thanks for the link to the Zoom Tea event. You better make a pin cushion so you can add it to your list of crafts you “can” do! :o)
      Thanks Dorothy,
      Blessings, Jeanne

I haven’t been doing very well at winning (any) auctions lately but I might give this little outfit a try for my Stevie Pilar (aka Mini Sara). She would look so precious in it. I love the whole outfit, especially the shoes. The desk is an amazing find and makes a wonderful prop. BTW the background looks just fine. Glad to have you back in your sewing room Jeanne. Can’t wait to see who is next in line for one of your fabulous outfits.

  6. Anne Coldron in Christchurch NZ

Jeanne Ten Ping’s outfit is wonderful. Love it. The background looks great. Thanks for all the information about thread Charlotte. I have the thread caps for my machine. If I don’t use it my bobbin can fly off its holder!
Spotlight, our big Australian craft store is opening a second branch in Christchurch in Northwood not far from here. At least I think it is nearer it is certainly easier to get to, I don’t have to go through the city which is a bonus. We also have a market to make stuff for on Sat. It was supposed to be last Saturday but it was postponed to this week which doesn’t work for us as we have something else on. We have to get someone else to help which might not be ideal but Sharon, who is organising it, definitely wants us to have a stall there. Busy days.
    Have a good day everyone

It must feel good to get back to listing on eBay again. The little desk could not be cuter. I have one that would do for a bigger doll that I just found in a closet. This one has to be a top 10 outfitā€¦or do I think they are all top ten outfits?šŸ˜‰ This whole same ensemble would be so cute on a RRFF too. Hint, hint.
I donā€™t know I have sewn all these years with the lack of knowledge about thread. Just luck I guessā€¦not only does my machine use any thread but I have never used a thread cap.šŸ˜³
There is an Annual High Tea coming again this Oct too. Now thanks to our sofa sisters lesson on kinds of Tea Parties, I know it isnā€™t called the correct kind of ā€œTeaā€ but it it is yummy, all made by the church ladies a fund raiser for a local church that makes layette sets for unwed mothers. Hard working ladies meet once a week to sew. They do a wonderful job and this raises money for items in the layette that they donā€™t sew. Seems so old fashioned now but still necessary for many babies.
Hope your auction goes well JeannešŸ˜‰
