A day to play Shoe Cobbler and pattern maker…

Oh no…she’s making shoes again? YES SHE IS…and having fun too! It is a bit time consuming drafting patterns, but once you get that “just right pattern” it is really smooth sailing… I am one happy camper!

Okay… do you see them?

Yep, Rose got a pair of Mary Janes to match her new dress. I punched out some little flowers in some colors in the dress fabric.

She likes them very much!

Who would have believed I had some Apple Green leather in my stash, but I sure did!

After I finished her shoes, I decided to tweak my Mary Jane shoe pattern just slightly and make them a little roomier in the heel area… so I began taking the pattern I had used and modified it a little bit and tried again… These green shoes were a better fit and I was very happy with the pattern.

I will wait and decorate them when I have something to go with them… They are a slightly different green than what I used for Rose’s.

After I had those “almost” finished, I decided to try and make a pair of Mary Janes that were the One Piece wrap around kind… it would be much easier to just start sewing in the right hole and go all the way around the shoe without having to stack those pieces on each side… (the leather can get quite thick in those spots!). This was my first attempt…

It was a pretty good fit, but still needed some tweaking…

I decided to make the strap go across her foot on the top and come down on the other side, instead of sort of wrapping around her ankle… You can see that one on my Sara doll…

These are my new pattern pieces and the old ones I was tweaking… I started marking every piece so I wouldn’t get them confused…

When I try a few more pairs and they are a good fit, I will have lots of pattern pieces to throw away…

Well, that’s what I did… how was your day?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

Rose’s new shoes are just as cute as they can be!! Boy, she is going to be upset when she finds out she can’t keep them!!

And then you worked on other shoes, too, tweaking the pattern until you get the fit and look you want. You are one talented lady, Jeanne!

Yesterday I was asked about pictures of the Expo I went to…well, yes, I do have pictures, and I will be happy to send them to Jeanne, if she wants to use them sometime. Actually it wasn’t a doll expo, it was a sewing expo. However, there were two booths that were most definitely doll-related. One was a lady who’s had a booth there in past years, and I always stop and chat with her. She specializes in American Girl dolls (I did mention our Ruby Red Fashion Friends and she was going to look them up)–clothing, accessories, and I think patterns. The other was a lady who had been to expo as a customer in the past, but decided to try it as a vendor. Her specialty was the fabrics and trims that work well for doll clothes, including (be still, my beating heart) HEIRLOOM fabrics! Ohhh……I spent Quite a bit of time in that booth!! She actually had a Little Darling modeling a dress she had knitted for her (she carries small-sized circular needles, too).

Jeanne, what more can I say? These are just perfect to go with the dress! Amazing that the color matches, and your idea of putting those cute little flowers that match the dots on the dress, just make it cuter! Well, done!

Rose, looks so happy to be modeling this outfit and sweet matching shoes. Lucky girl. Hoping that she will also have a pair of thigh highs in thin fabric without much pattern as well. This outfit can be for spring or summer and might be called, Chartreuse Fantasy. 🙂

The shoes look perfect with the lovely dress and jacket. It’s wonderful when you can find exactly what you need to get a job done, especially when it’s already in your stash. I like the other shoes you’re working on too and looking forward to seeing them with an outfit.

I’ve got all my tax documents ready for the tax preparer. Now if I can only get him to call me back. We don’t have a lot of choices here but he seems to be exactly what we are looking for to handle our books when the guys start home building. I know I’m not doing them. Not my bailiwick and I’m supposed to be retired and want to get back full time to sewing endeavors.

Next week I will finally be able to disassemble the Christmas village and tree. The garage has been cleared of all things construction related now that the addition is complete, at least on the inside. The masonry guys are coming this Friday to put the stones back on the back and then we will use hardy plank as an accent in the areas where we don’t have enough stones. We discovered that the stones that were used when our home was built are no longer available in our color, so David had to do some design work to make sure it doesn’t look like we ran out of materials. I think I’m going to like it better. Not a whole lot of imagination was used in the facade of our house, but it has been maintenance free over the years so I’m not complaining. We added shutters after we bought the house and that made the house more cozy looking. The boys are out pressure washing the stones getting ready for Friday. I’m looking forward to seeing the addition with a “face” on it. Next week begins the work on the roof and the elimination of my decomposing sun pipe so my sewing room will no longer leak when we have a hard rain. I can’t wait.

So curious, as to with what you will replace the sun pipe? We have a very old large plastic covered one from the 60’s that I would like to replace with something smaller. It hasn’t failed yet, but it is just a matter of time. 🙂
It must be great to have your garage cleared out a bit too. Not happening here. 🙁

Joy, we are just going to do away with it entirely. They are going to basically fix the hole in my sewing room ceiling and then they will fix the hole in the roof and the new roof will be covering the spot. My sewing room was a test to see whether we liked it so David could install one on a job he was doing. I think we put it in about 2005 or so and it has done well until the past couple years. I did like it. Since I knew we would be reroofing sometime soon, I just dealt with the leak problem until the roofing happened. Thankfully the time is now because the ceiling leaks in front of my work table, so when it’s raining hard I can’t work in there. But it could have been worse and been over my machines. There’s still plenty in the garage, just no construction materials. One cold winter day I’m going to tear the place apart and do some serious cleaning and reorganizing. Too hot most of the year to do this. I have a two-car garage but half of it is taken up with shelf units and you know what happens to them over time.

  5. Those shoes are just the thing to go with that dress and jacket. You are really on a roll. So many pieces to make such teeny shoes🥹. Interesting how the holes for stitching are made ahead of time. …all by hand? What locks the stitches in place?
We are still having winter..snowy slushy stuff today🥶

You are such a talented lady Jeanne. I so enjoy seeing your finished articles. It amazes me how quickly you are able to finish a project. Maybe some year I will be able to make decisions as fast as you do.
