Short coats and jackets for the dolls…well, pictures of them…

Joy sent me a few pictures, so I decided to make today’s post from them… tomorrow I’ll show Linda’s Wedding dress, one in black and white and one in color…

Here’s a pic of grand (Landry) and her new RRFF girl, Charlotte. Ignore the turned up collar, as it really does lay flat. She’s already changed the wig from the first chosen long to short. ๐Ÿ™‚ Landry received Sara for Christmas last year. Now, she has a friend. And I did make the outfit. Checked dress and a reversible pinafore. Christmas on one side and white with Valentine hearts on the other. ๐Ÿ™‚

Joy commented a few days ago that she’d like to see some shorter coats for the dolls… she did better than tell me what she had in mind… she sent a few pictures! She liked the idea of jackets because they are pretty popular and can be worn lots of ways. The Ruby Reds would love them I’m sure. Here are a few ideas… and each one is adorable!

I have quite a few coat and jacket patterns and just might take Joy up on this! Do you have any more ideas of what you’d like to see this coming year?

See you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

  1. Joy, thanks so much for sending us pictures of Landry and her new doll. They both look quite pleased with one another!! I love the outfit you made for Charlotte, too. Nice idea to make the pinafore reversible!

My favorite of the coat/jacket patterns is the yellow duffle coat. I have a black one that is just about that style! Another possible jacket style to think about–which would translate well to either boys or girls–is the baseball-style jacket, with the ribbing around the bottom as well as ribbing cuffs and neckband. In addition a parka style would be good for winter–sort of like the duffle, but with a zipped front, and maybe elastic cuffs, and a drawcord in the hood.

Oh, Jeanne, you may have opened a can of worms here–we might all have different ideas for you!!

Love your coat/jacket ideas. Methinks that some dollies are going to be very well dressed in January. ๐Ÿ™‚

Darling dolls, Joy, Landry AND Charlotte! Landry looks the right age for those RRFF dolls. I have seen pictures of 5 year olds with them and shudder to think how those poor dolls must survive that!

How clever that you have managed to do two holidays in one outfit! That is a darling pinafore and the red and white checked dress is perfect for such a transformation! Thank you for sending those darling pictures!

Well, coats, and jackets are just what is on everyojne’s minds noadays with this winter storm making an appearance! I love that first set you showed, with the black and white houndstooth jacket. It can be used with a variety of colors and on different occasions! I also love that parka! Having a hood, you don’t need a hat!

Of course you are the queen of felt jackets with all the embellishments you do on them, but given a modern twist, they can also be used with pants outfits too. So many styles, and January might just be the right time to make them!

  3. Thanks for sharing Joyโ€™s โ€œdollsโ€ picโ€™s. That red gingham and pinafore is so sweet. I immediately thought of an Alice in wonderland outfit from that pattern.
I also like the yellow duffle coat a lot. The gold/rust jacket although plain looks so cute. And of course the houndstooth style works for me! Iโ€™m not a fan of ribbing but like buttons and loops
Can of worms for sure. LOL

Doesnโ€™t Landry look thrilled with her girl and outfit? Joy, your granddaughter is a beautiful little miss. Itโ€™s so wonderful for you both to share a love of dolls and that her grandmother sews. Thanks for sharing these. I wasnโ€™t aware the pinafore reversed; smart cookie!

Wonderful suggestions for jackets. Seeing what Jeanne cooks up will be fun. Thanks for providing the inspiration, Joy. ๐Ÿ‘

I should have shared that the pattern for RRFF Charlotte is from Trensations on Etsy, but I reduced it and made some changes. My bad.
I can’t wait to see the jacket pictures others may find and send to Jeanne. There are so many fun things to see out there.
Thanks for sharing my photos today Jeanne. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Hi Jeanne,
I really enjoyed seeing your Felicity dresses from years ago. I’d love to see more. Felicity was my very first AG, she holds a special place in my heart. I’m also happy to read your water issues in your sewing room have been resolved yeah! As far as what I’d like to see you make this year. Shorter dresses and shorter coats, IMHO it gives a more modern feel. Of course I love all you make and the last coat you made was wonderful but I’d love to see it shorter. I like seeing more leg on my girls.

Donnells Connie girls are adorable. I have Hazel and hoped to add a Stella but like Joy mentioned it’s not so easy anymore. Donnell I hope you enjoy your new machine and share with us what you create for your beautiful girls. Enjoy your Church Choir Musical

Sally Your new RRFFs are so sweet, Congratulations! Aren’t your girls spoiled! New wigs and outfits when they first arrive. My poor freida is still in her box in the outfit she arrived in…Yikes! Poor neglected girl. LOL
Sally, Thank you for your kind concern. My family and I are all safe and sound! We received quite a bit of snow here. Never lost power thankfully. Driving bands were in place and our prime rib Christmas eve dinner was pushed back to Christmas day. Sadly my parents where snowed in and with a driving band still in place in their county they missed dinner. It took a day for our plow guy to get to them and dig them out. They had four feet of really heavy wet snow in their driveway. Monday morning hubby and I took their dinner to them. It was a driving adventure! They live on an Island (Grand Island) and the north bridge we found was closed which meant we had to drive around to the south bridge which took twice as long as normal but we got to them. This may sound silly but we are use to snow, driving bands and empty store shelves. Hubby and I are prepared when winter comes to Western New York. Sadly my son who lives in South Carolina had crazy cold weather and all his water pipes burst under the house. The following day a pipe broke in his well. The well house is heated but not enough I guess. Thankfully he has wonderful Christian family and friends around him that helped out so all is repaired and working fine again.
I pray your Christmas holiday was lovely and uneventful! Thank you for sharing your beautiful girls with us Sally, It’s always a treat.

Katie, Your cards are just wonderful. What a labor of love! I know I’d be so thrilled to receive something so lovely. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us.

Joy, your grand baby is growing into a beautiful young lady. You should be happy she’s still interested in doll play. My granddaughters out grew dolls at a young age sadly. It made gift giving not so much fun. : (
I love the dress and apron you made. How clever to make it reversible. Good job

Hope everyone had a blessed Christmas
    Hugs
    Ingrid

Ingrid, pardon me for asking, but what is a driving band? I canโ€™t figure that out! All I can come up with is a band that plays while they drive! LOL

        1. Ingrid B in Western N Y

LOL oops.. that should read driving ban not band. That’s what I get for not proof reading! I’m guessing you know what a driving ban is but if you’ve never been banned from driving while a storm was dumping four feet of snow in your area maybe you don’t know. The New York State Thruway was closed to all traffic. That’s the I-90 from Lewiston NY to the PA state line

So glad to hear that you and family have survived the big snow. We’ve been watching the news and hearing about those trapped in cars etc. and the number of deaths. Sounds like your son is well taken care of by his friends too. Thanks on our grand. I’m glad she still likes to play with her dolls when she’s not out on the soccer field or at swim meets in the summer. ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep warm!

Joy, I love the outfit you made for Landry’s Charlotte and you used my very most favorite pattern. I’ve made this several times for both my Meadow Lolla and my MA Lissy. What size doll was the pattern you used for originally. I have the Dumpling size. I love the idea of the reversible pinafore. Any chance we could get a picture of the reverse side? Your granddaughter is lovely and I love her name. I think I need to buy another doll so I can name her Landry.

Jackets are a great idea. I love jackets for both myself and my dolls – of all kinds. Sadly I live in a place where I rarely wear them because an extra layer of clothes around here only works for a short period of time. I actually used to wear lightweight jackets a lot in the summer because the A/C in places made it smart to at least have one with you. But as the cost of A/C goes up so do the thermostats in places and I don’t need them as much anymore.

Jason is out of town this week so David and Sean are on their own for our construction project. Right now whatever they are doing is causing them great consternation and I’m afraid to go see what the problem is. What I’m hearing tells me they are having great difficulty getting something to fit. Whatever they are doing has to be done before they can do the steps and I’m anxiously awaiting the use of those steps.so I no longer have to go through the garage to reach my laundry room.

I heard a couple days ago that the husband of my Chorale Director had a serious medical emergency and was in the hospital. He has viral pneumonia which they think was caused by heart issues so today he is having a quadruple bypass. They discovered he’s had a heart attack. With his weak heart, the pneumonia and he is diabetic, this surgery is extremely risky for him. Prayers would be appreciated for him to come through the surgery okay. He went into surgery at 9:15 this morning and I haven’t heard anything else just yet.

Lovely weather here. Cool nights and days around 60. What’s not to like.

    1. Joy in northern CA

I bought the Trensations pattern for my big girl, I think they are 18″ Connie Lowe girls, Stella and Meili. It also fits the largest Meadow girl who is 19″ as well but just slightly enlarged. Then, reduced it to fit the Ruby Reds. I think I’ve extended my pleas for photos of the outfit enough already, so unfortunately, can’t get a pic of the other side of the pinafore. It is white background with tiny red hearts. Looks nice with the red/white checks I think. I’m planning on making another outfit though for the Ruby Reds here, so if I ever get to it, I can get a photo then.
So hope your guys can figure out the step problem so it will be a piece of cake to do laundry.
Sounds like your friend’s husband has a lot of things going on, and so hope for a successful surgery.
Good to hear your weather is cooperating too.

  8. Sorry I have just a minute. The photos yesterday were lovely. Beautiful dolls Donnell and Sally and gorgeous cards, Katie.

Landry is a lovely young lady, Joy. Charlotte is so cute in that jumper and blouse. How fun it is reversible.

Prayers for the husband of your Chorale Director, Barbara. Hopefully, he will be in recovery soon.

Thanks Laura, on Landry. The RR girls here made me promise to make another similar outfit for them, so we’ll see how long it takes me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I went and did it. Bought a new doll. Her name is Elizabeth and she is a MA Lissy so now I’ll have two. I was reading my “Dolls” magazine yesterday and they had a big article on the MA Lissy doll so I checked out eBay and found three that I liked but had to settle for only one. The last time three dolly children showed up I thought I might have pushed my luck when hubby said wistfully – and still they come. i just told him they don’t eat much and I have plenty of fabric already with which to clothe them. Her name is Elizabeth but I think I’ll add the name of Joys granddaughter to it so she’ll be Landry Elizabeth. Lissy and Landry. I like that.

My Chorale director’s husband is nearly out of surgery and holding his own so far.

    1. Joy in northern CA

      Good news on the surgery.
I would love to see a pic of your MA Lissy girls when your latest arrives. Lissy and Landry. Cute. ๐Ÿ™‚

I missed Felicity day, so yesterday I went back and looked. I had 2 thoughts. One was that the outfits were lovely and charming — any Felicity would be happy to own any of them. The second thought was that you had improved beyond recognition — this makes sense — practice does make perfect. But who, looking at those dresses, would believe you could improve? I suppose the answer is “anyone looking at this year’s collection.”

It’s going to be fun seeing what you come up with in 2023.
