American Girl Molly, is getting close to being my first Christmas girl…

And she is LOVING it! She even told me I didn’t have to hurry on the velvet vest, because she loves it just the way it is! After some struggles with the vest, I’m almost inclined to go along with her… but I’ll give it one more shot…

I got some lacy looking thigh highs made… I know knee socks and ankles were more “acceptable” in the 40’s, but I just thought this set was dressy enough to wear “big girl” stockings! :o)

Next, I finished a slip for Molly… I know, I know… it too, isn’t “exactly” how slips were in the 40’s. Fabric was being rationed because of the war and they were more on the skimpy side, but you know me… (I DON’T LIKE SKIMPY SKIRTS) and you’ll just have to accept the fact that this set is fuller than most 40’s looking outfits…

Molly wanted to show you how it looked with the blouse and the slip together…

The slip really does a nice job of holding out the skirt…

Now, doesn’t she look pretty as a picture with everything on?

I decided to try a different version of a vest…one that opened in the front…(It’s not finished…)

It just looks a little ordinary to me…

Except the inside is lined in a pretty gold fabric…

I basted the edges together before lightly pressing it, but when I slipped it on her, the back is way too short… It hiked up on her back like she had a hump back… so I’m going to have to start over… and maybe even do a different version…

I also had to help my hubby for a while outside as his passenger side truck window motor went out and he couldn’t roll his window up or down…(we did it once, but the gears didn’t line up right) so we took it apart and tried again… and fortunately it worked… He is AMAZING… I don’t know how he knows how to do the stuff he does… but he does…and he usually gets it right! He’s my MacGyver and I’m keeping him…

Okay, Friday I work at the Food Pantry and then Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m., my day is booked with this big birthday party… it will probably go till 10:00! I still have to get some corn casseroles made and some other stuff together, and somewhere in the next few days we are going to try to celebrate Kristoffer’s birthday too!

I’m telling you all this, because I probably won’t get anything else done “sewing wise” until after Monday… BUT, I see that Laura has sent me some pictures, so I’ll be using them…

I’ll see you tomorrow,
Blessings, Jeanne

I usually wait for Charlotte to comment first, but I think this is just plain adorable on Molly and had to be the first to tell you, although Charlotte could be writing now and beat me to it! Where to start? Of course, Molly is a doll, and we aren’t living in the 40’s, so there is no shortage of material, and that slip makes the drsss stand out so prettily, who can blame you for that?

No, we didn’t wear thigh highs wither, but who cares? Like I mentioned before, Molly is a doll, and we can dress her however we want so that she shines, and shine she does in this!

Now that velveteen vest, have you seen the latest collection of Janie and Jack mix and match clothes that AG has put out? This outfit works very well with those, and they have used a rose applique on a sweater that I bought, and I was thinking maybe a small red rose applique on each side might work, or even your own applique you could do. I know, extra workk, and you are completley booked up this weekend, but it is just a suggestion. I’m not sure if you plan to even finish the vest, but is it going to be closed or left open? I just think it needs “something” on it so it doesn’t look so ordinary.

Whether you do anything with the second vest or not, what you do have is just adorable for Molly, and she certainly shines in it!

Has George checked out new trucks lately, especially the prices? They are through the roof! Tell him to keep his truck up and save a bundle! It looks like he is doing that!

I see Linda beat me on commenting tonight–I seem to be running a bit late. Story of my life.

Molly’s outfit is PERFECT!! Everything just sings together. Tne new vest would be nice, as Linda says, with something decorative added (once you get the riding-up back thing figured out, I mean). It could be an embroidered applique, some fancy braid around the edges, a pretty button closure…I know you’ll figure out what it needs. But…that could even be the start of another outfit, who knows?!

Good for George, figuring out how to fix the window motor!! We have all gotten so used to all those push buttons; remember when you had to Work to get your window up or down?! Back then the worst that could happen was you window might jump the track. That happened when I had my old Hyundai–they windows cranked, but the passenger one jumped its track, and I had to take it in and have it fixed.

I got some wonderful news today: my PCP, Laura (who is actually an ARNP, not a doctor) starts with her new clinic on the 21st, and I have an appt. that afternoon with her! It’s been 6 months since she left her previous clinic (a “mutual separation”, I was told). I’m bringing her flowers, I think…..

Jeanne, me again! I was just thinking, that velveteen vest would look so nice if you made it into a dressy outfit for Kirsten! You could put your ribbon roses on each side, and thread ribbon through to close it up in a crisscross fashion. Have a pretty white blouse, with puffed sleeves in three quarter length, and a pretty skirt with a lacy apron! Just a suggestion, since I really don’t think Molly’s outfit needs two vests, but again, just my opinion!

Personally, I much prefer the first vest that closes in back because it creates a smoother front, but that’s just me.
Years ago I preferred my AG clothes to be as era correct as possible from shoes and undergarments to everything else, and hated velcro. Well, that was lovely while the hands and fingers worked the way they should. These days, easy is best for this old crone. So hurrah for thigh highs, easy, effective slips, and large snaps (preferably under buttons but not so important any more!) Go with what you prefer, Jeanne. The overall effect is wonderful and that is what we doll lovers consider most important, I think.
That George! Holy cow. Yes, a keeper for sure. Congrats, and have a wonderful party. I will see if I can scare up some pics for you because many dolls got changed and I have a better display system now.
Off to the library shortly to set up for tomorrow’s semi annual book sale.

I’m with Linda here. The corduroy vest looks wonderful and in photos, I really can’t tell that it isn’t velveteen. Then use the velveteen one for another outfit or cut it down for the RRFF size. 🙂 The hairbow thingy looks much more tamed today as well. Now, when I saw Molly in the white blouse and white slip, I thought there was another outfit. That is adorable as well. Maybe making another dress in all white and with a dropped waist skirt would be fun. It would be a perfect dress for the holidays with a wide red ribbon at the low waist or with a red/white/blue ribbon for the Fourth of July. The one with the red ribbon would also work for Valentine’s Day as well. So many of the girls could wear the white outfit and look lovely. Just a thought.
Yesterday, we were back to working on the playhouse roof. I was planning on doing more hedge whacking, but ended up in the garage sorting nails. At one point I had the nails all sized in a great plastic suitcase like container, but then, when we were at the cabin working on a project several years back, other person forgot to latch it and the nails all ended up in the pine needles. Ugh! I had to try and scoop them back into the container with a paper cup. Now that we needed the roofing nails, I had to sort them out from all of the others. I wanted to put them in an old nut plastic container from Costco, but found that it was not an easy task. The jumbled nails were all over the place and that old paper cup was still there filled with assorted nails, bark, and pine needles as well. Anyway, scoop by scoop, I pulled out the roofing nails, depositing them in the nut container, dumping the miscellaneous nails back in the nail box, and the pine needle debris into an old lid. Not a job for the fainthearted for sure. An hour later, I had the majority of the nails in the container and the rest of the nails back in the box. However, they are not sorted. Just random as my patience for sorting had reached it’s tolerance. I dumped the assorted pine needles and bark into some pots, hope the plants like the mix, and climbed the ladder to hand the now filled, nut container of nails to other person so he could nail down the new roofing. Hope other person remembered to put the lid back on the nails. 🙂
Sounds like your weekend is completely full. Glad George was able to fix his own window. Must have been a little cold driving with the window open all of the time. 🙂 How are the chicks doing?

Joy, you needed one of those “sweep” magnets (from hardware stores)–reminds me a bit of that flat thingy from Fuller that I used to wax my kitchen floor years ago, but it’s all magnet. You sweep it over the area, and it picks up all the nails, etc., without having to bend over! Even now, when trying to separate the nails from the pine debris, use a magnet to pull the nails out of it. If you have a decent magnet, it should work for you!

I would say that, after all that sorting, etc., you deserve a new dolly!! 😂

  6. Awwwww! I love, love, love this outfit! I really prefer the scoop-neck vest – although I think it would be fantastic in velvet/velveteen.

That’s so sweet about George, I wish my hubby was a little more McGyver-ish, BUT that’s not him, so it’s generally up to me to figure those things out. (He actually calls me an engineer, and I actually worked in that department at our place of employment, but my degree is actually in IT.

  7. I love, love, love Molly’s new outfit. I especially like the vest with the gold buttons (the zip up one not so much).

  8. Molly whole outfit is perfect. As far as a longer length skirt that would be perfectly possible if she received it from an older relative. Christmas dresses typically only fit for one or two years tops and are not worn out in that amount of time.
The first vest with the gold beads is wonderful. The other one doesn’t look dressy enough.
Enjoy the weekend and I hope my pictures help. I’m still hoping to find time for the cuter ones, at least IMO, I still have planned

    1. Forgot to say how wonderful it is that George can fix things. I can usually figure out a lot, but cars are not my strongpoint.

  9. This ensemble will be soooo cute. Whichever vest you use. Love the tights..looks cozy and warm. This is the kind of outfit I always think is perfect for American Girl dolls.
Last Monday night we set a record low of 16 degrees…way too cold…way too soon. Sunday is supposed to be 85..setting a record high…but all the flowers are gone….even most of the mums🥲. What is Mother Nature up too? I think she needs some Xanax.
Enjoy your weekend of Birthday parties!
